"Just arrived home from this hotel. We were worried due to there being bad reviews but what a shock the hotel was spotless, staff very helpful and friendly, breakfast was very good and healthy. There was some noise from aircraft but to watch them go overhead was amazing. The location was good but don't go on the day long boat trip it was very boring, half day trip would have been better.
We would go back again without a doubt, just one little moan no plugs for sinks and bath, apparently it is for health and safety reasons but will take my own next time"

Great location and pool- But not much else
"We paid a bit more than our usual Greek summer holiday budget for the Golden Sun - and being honest it wasn't worth the extra. The rooms are fine and kept very clean. So too is the pool, which is of a good size. The breakfast is, as you might expect, fairly poor but OK if you're happy with the usual bread selection, cheap cereal etc. The staff weren't friendly either. The hotel is right next to the runway and we did find the noise quite bad especially early in the morning. Also the air con would switch off during the early hours, so if you wake up in the night getting back to sleep wasn't easy.
On the plus side the grounds are well kept and very pleasant and the main advantage to us was the hotel's location. A couple of minutes from the beach and 10 minutes to the main Kalamaki road which offers plenty of restaurants and bars.
We had a wonderful two weeks in Kalamaki and the resort suited us perfectly. Plenty of restaurants and bars for the evenings and a lovely beach for the days. Also the dive centre in Laganas is within walking distance. Jeep safari is a good excursion and we also did the half day trip to Smugglers Cove, having previously been on the full day trip a few years ago and the boat couldn't stop at the wreck due to the currents which was very disappointing. All good this time round though, and found the trip a good length.
We'd definately return to Zante, but probably not to the Golden Sun as think it's fairly expensive for what you get."

A Little Warning!
"Well, from the start, arrived, we said hello, got nothing back from the receptionist.......miserable people to say the least!! fridge was 6 euros a night to hire, so straight away they attempted to rip us off, deposit box was 15 euros a week. We arrived in our room which was clean but quite basic!!!!there was a TV stand yay ....with no TV, radio didnt work which was an added bonus!!!! The bath was only big enough to stand in or sit hunched up in which reminded me of a baby bath, and to use the toilet u also use the bath at the same time as ur left bum cheek sits nicely on it,its soo comfy!!!!!!!!!! If u want to sit outside, the aircon automatically switches off so if u think about sittin out on the balcony say for a game of cards and a drink and then goin back into a nice cool room.... think again!!!! but then again u can gave a nice cool drink ....... oh no u cant coz u didnt do that week of overtime at work to be able to afford to power it!!!!!! On to the pool, usual foreigners so u have to be up early to get a sun bed, jaccuzi is rubbish and filthy and is only on from 12 till 3, another money saving aspect of this hotel!! The staff at the pool bar made u feel as though u were at school again asking the teacher for the day off when all u want is a coke!!! Everything seems like such hard work for them!!!!! breakfast is poor,i mean...... who has jelly or angel delight for breakfast??????? and now for the good points the room was nice and clean, air con was ice cold and the location was perfect, close to the beach and short walking distance to the restaurants of kalamaki, laganas is only 7 euros away in a taxi!!!! We still did have a good time, had a good day on the boat trip around the island and renting a quad is a must!!!!!!"

"Personally, I loved this hotel! The aircraft noise in my opinion was the only downside. It did not bother me that much though.
The rooms were immaculate. You can hire a fridge & the air conditioning, but we stayed during peak seasonwhen air conditioning is free from 10 in the evening into the early hours & also through the hottest part of the day.
English breakfasts weren't great I'll admit but I lived off Greek Yoghurt & hunet which was great!
It states in the broucheur that his hotel is a Bed & Breakfast however a restaurant would have been beneficial. We ate in Pandisia most evenings though which was a lovely near by family run restaurant.
The bar was rather quiet but why would you stay there in the evenings when you have the whole of Kalamaki to explore? & if you're looking for a bar with erm "atmosphere" then go to Laganas!
I loved it here! I definately plan to return!"

Lovely Hotel but.......
"Brochures are quite correct in saying "may suffer from some aircraft noise" but this hotel is practically on the flight path. We felt as though we could touch the airplane wings from our balcony. Staff reluctant to sort out any problems, we felt as though we were pestering them."

Lovely for relaxing
"I stayed in this hotel 3 years ago but being new to trip advisor am late in posting.
It was a lovely hotel and the pool area is large and very good for a relaxing holiday.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and even responded to an email i sent them prior to going asking if i could have a pool view room - got the room.
My only fault was it was the hottest June they had experienced for decades and they were too tight to put the air conditioning on. With having no fridge in the room you couldn't even have a cool drink at night. Reception area was very cool because they had air conditioning!
Don't bother with the horse cart ride! 20 Euros for five mins, I refused to pay and got threatened."

in our opinion
"generally a nice hotel, boasting a restauarant, gym and jacuzzi. in our 1 week stay was unable to locate restauarant| there was aircraft noise, first plane landing about 5 am. a good base in kalamki as restaurants within easy walking distance. kalamaki beach is great,a pleasant stroll to laganos recomended."

"we stayed at the golden sun hotel for two weeks
the hotel was marvellous very clean and well run
but the hotel staff could do with a course in friendliness not all just some
but enough of that. we found it hard to get a hotel spirit going as we
had a miss match there not only brits but dutch and swedish
checkloslovaks and all sorts hard to say good morning in about
20 languages. we are definately going back there as it is a
marvellous base and if you want entertainment walk twenty yards
to the hotel marelen across the road fantastic. go to stannis for a meal 5 euros
in a taxi outside the hotel. dont go on the turtle trips you wont see one
walk 150 yards to the beach at around 7-30 in the evening and you will see them."

don't go there!
"This hotel was an absolute disaster. It was absolutely baking and they wouldn't put the air-conditioning on, despite everyone complaining. The breakfasts were all about inedible, catering mainly for German tourists. No chance of a sunbed around the pool, unless you snook out about 2am in the morning, which many did I can assure you! No atmosphere in the bar areas or surrounding bars either. Generally unhelpful staff, not friendly at all. I wouldn't recommend either the hotel or the resort to anyone, sorry."

Great Place, friendly people, going back asap
We went there on an early holiday to miss the 18-30 crowd, the hotel was spotless, the staff were great, the food was good to, but do not expect english food, after all you are in Greece.
If your after loud music, drunken yobs, podiums and half naked teenage girls then go to Laganas, if not stay in kalamaki, Much nicer, although avoid the Olive Tree.
Zante town was lovely, Kalamaki beach was great.
We are going back asap, maybe not to the golden sun though as the prices seem to have shot up since we went to a level that is not justified by the standard of hotel."

Just enjoy the resort.
"We stayed at the Golden Sun Hotel last year.I did'nt bother reading any reviews as you'll have your mind done in thinking its a hovel or a haven.Well for us it was a haven. We found the staff excellent who knew their jobs and were always willing to help.As for the food you did'nt sign for a five star West End hotel.Like I said just relax enjoy the resort and have a great holiday.
