Great apartments with friendly staff
We booked the holiday with Thomas cook and booked additional in flight meals and transfers. Checked in online which you have to do 48 hours before checking in if you want to avoid queuing at the airport. We just had to drop our bags off and were through passport control within 20 mins. If you have not paid extra for pre booked seats then if you say wanted aisle seats like we prefer then you will have to pay £9 each extra but if you turn up at the airport and ask for aisle seats you are normally accommodated without extra cost. The in flight meals both outward and on return were very good and much better than they used to be. We paid £25 each for coach transfer to our accommodation whereas if we would have got a taxi to Argassi it would have cost 16 Euro each way and only 15 minutes whereas the coach made 8 drops and we were last and it took 1 hour and 15 minutes from leaving the terminal to getting to the apartments. The return flight check in was a lengthy process with 3 flights leaving near the same time and we had to stand in line for 40 minutes to check our cases in. No duty free on the flight out or in so may be wise to purchase at Zante airport.
We arrived at the apartments around 1.30pm and was greeted and given our room key by Effie. The Apartment had a bedroom with 2 beds pushed together, dressing table and drawers for clothes. The wardrobes had plenty of space and hangers. The kitchen and dining area was nice and bright and roomy with plenty of facilities for cooking including a microwave and sandwich maker but no toaster. The lounge had a 3rd bed and a pull out sofa bed. There was a colour tv in the room. We had a room with a solid wall balcony but to be honest we did not spend too much time on the balcony. There is Air conditioning available which you have to pay for if you want to use it. This can be done on a ad-hoc basis at a cost of 10 Euro per day or 60 Euro per week we did not need it in the middle of May. There is also a safe deposit box in the room which you have to obtain a key for from reception and the cost for this is 25 Euro per week. The bathroom has a shower over the bath which was a bit fiddly to turn around in but ok. A word of warning here is that if you have a bath only take the plug half out to release the water or the bathroom floor will flood through the grill in the tiled floor. This is because the pipes are small and cannot cope with the sudden throughput of water.
Hair Dryers can be borrowed from reception if required.
As you go through reception taking the steps to the left down to the pool area there is an opening on your left where there are blue doors, these are the pool/bar area toilets. At the end of this corridor is a room set up with an ironing board and iron and opposite there are showers which can be used after swimming or if needed if you have to vacate your room and you flight is later in the day, then it could be used as a courtesy room.
The Pool and pool bar/restaurant
There is a large pool and a childs pool which appear to be well maintained and clean. There is a tiny area of beach and the water slowly shelves outward so you can walk a fair way out. Jelly shoes or old trainers would be useful as some bits are pebbley.
There are plenty of sunbeds which were even comfortable without the extra padded mattresses which were available
The two ladies at the pool bar Anna and Maria were lovely and gave us excellent service. A full English breakfast which included, 3 rashers of bacon, 2 eggs, sausage beans, tomato 2 toast, orange juice and tea or coffee cost 5.5 Euro continental breakfast was 2 rounds of toast or bread rolls with orange juice, tea or coffee was 4.5 Euro. Small Beer 2.5 Euro 330ml large Mythos beer 3 Euro 500ml.
Basically there is none apart from a Greek night at the sister Windmill Studio apartments which are about 100 yards, from the bay apartments on the other side of the road next to the green frog restaurant. This happens on a Monday evening and costs 12 Euro and has to be booked at reception in advance.
Thomas Cook Rep and car hire.
David was very helpful and not Pushy with the tours. He advised us if we wanted to hire a small car for 3 days the cost with Avis ( cheapest price) would be 160 Euro for 3 days. We decided to hire a car from Faros car hire down the main street which cost 80 Euro for 2 days inc full CDW this was a Corsa a cat B car the cheaper Hyundai I10 would have been 64 Euro. 16 liters of fuel got us nearly 180 Km to various places on the island and the cost of fuel was 1.70 euro per liter on average. Five out of seven days the weather was mixed so having the car was great. Roads are ok but the signs can be a bit confusing so get a good road map.
For those on a tight budget Legends offers cheaper full breakfast and their Pizza is 5 Euro and enough for 2 people as an evening meal.
First night we ate at Erato and had a nice meal, very pleasant with a touch of luxury. Meal for 2 with drinks and with a starter was 30 Euro. Papillon was also good on the main strip Main meal for two with a couple of drinks and coffee was 25 Euro. A nice bar/ Restaurant just past Mythos travel turn right at the cross road down to beach and it on the right called Costello is nice with good food also.
When we had the car we found a nice restaurant about 5km from the apartments on the way to Vassilikos called The Windmill Restaurant, best Moussaka I have had in 30 years.
Before booking with the rep check out the company opposite Mythos Travel, Mamfredas Tours which is run by Peter who used to work at Mythos. He will give you all sorts of impartial good advice on trips and where to visit. He can also get you good deals on car hire. He has put some bright orange signs outside his agency with his name PETER on them.
Is it for me?
It suited us as we wanted a relaxing break and in spite of the dodgy weather that is what we got. The staff at the apartments and the restaurants were all very friendly. Its in a peaceful location. If you are looking for nightlife, entertainment and more sandy beaches then Kalamaki, Laganas or Tslivi may suit you better. For a beautiful sandy beach with some more action then Alykanas may be another good place to consider.
We spent 580 Euro plus 80 Euro for car hire. It should be pointed out here that if you were staying for 2 weeks in the summer and needed aircon and safe then this would add and extra £150 to your holiday for one room!
Hire a car and see this beautiful island, see the shipwreck from the viewing platform its spectacular the color of blue the sea is. Also from the windmill next to the lighthouse at the top of the island past Agios Nikolas which is also a nice place to stop and have lunch, there is a stepped path that leads to platforms where you can get a view of the blue caves, lovely. If you want to do the cave trip and ship wreck from Agios Nikolas then try to get there by 11am as the position of the sun gives a better view. The trip takes a total of 3 hours and cost 15 Euro per person. Kiri is nice at the other end of the island. Alykanas beach was special for us very nice indeed. At the green frog shop you can sample various wines and buy them at a very small cost in your own plastic bottles. The normal bottles of Greek Cabernet Sauvignon was only 3.5 euro and a nice drop of red. If you think you may need extra baggage allowance whilst there then David the rep said he could arrange an extra 5kg for I think he said 20 Euro.
Here are the published Taxi Prices for 2014 and this is a useful place for other info. http://www.justzante.co.uk/zante_taxi_fares.asp
We have not been to Zante ( Zakynthos) before but it is certainly a place we would like to go back to and the Windmill apartments would be top of our list. The staff really do make this place a success. Hello to Anna and Maria at the pool bar and Effie and Maria on reception. We met a lovely couple whilst there called Steve and Sarah and we wish them all the best with Uni and Sarah is a keeper Steve ï. Have a great time when you visit this beautiful Island.

Our amazing holiday at windmill bay, agassi.
"Weve just returned home from this beautiful place, this hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff treated us like friends rather than customers. the ideal location for us right next to the sea, although the hotel has a great pool. when we were there, there wasnt many children which added to our peacefull relaxing holiday. I absolutally loved my holiday in greece and loved the greek people. The jeep safari is a must, it takes you all over the beautiful island. We will definatly be returning to Windmill bay, Cant wait."

"We have been holidaying in Zante, and generally Argassi, for 20 years and the Windmill Bay Hotel on the beach in Argassi is the best hotel we have stayed in to date. True there is no beach at this end of the resort but the hotel and its staff were excellent. Effie made us so welcome on our arrival, at the poolside snack bar Maria and Christina are lovely and fun - you must try one of Christina's milk shakes. The room was brilliant, even the bedroom had a balcony. The swimming pool was sparkling. For the older guests this hotel is too far from the centre of Argassi to walk. We will return to Windmill Bay Hotel for our next holiday."

dont waste your money
"myself and my now husband and four children stayed at the windmill bay apts just recently we went to zante to get married and chose the windmill bay because it had great entertainment for ourselfs and the children which was not the case all it had was a swimming pool which the kids had to be out of by 7 oclock which you wouldnt mind if there was anything else to do there was a broking pooltable and 2 computors which were alot of the time broke or there would always be a teenager on maybe because there was nothing else and 2 computors between all the guests is madness.there was no shows for the kids as they advertise and no table tennis and no games there is also no kids club no entertainment for adults i spent 2 weeks there to get married as i said and half way threw all i wanted to was go home if you like been bored and have your kids cryin all week because of having nothing to do go but otherwise stay away it cost all in all 2 thousand euro for flights and accomandation and it wasnt worth it at all i ws very dissapointed and upset this is were i chose to stay and if i knew and could turn the clock back i would most definitley change my mind i felt i needed to write this review as there adverts are very misleading and the truth should be told as people spend alot of money to go on holidays and enjoyment which you wont have here. sinead philip and kids ireland"

You should know this..
"In the Windmill apartments there is a great disparity between some apartments & others. The 1 we spent our holiday in was of a low standard, poorly maintained, not 3 star. They moved us to another room because we were on a night flight & paid to keep a room on, this 1 was of a much, much higher standard. The apartment we had to cope with ruined our holiday. No information of reps attendance on site. Please be aware that as a resort for couples/ families, I would not reccomend. There is NO beach whatsoever, very difficult to move outside the resort- no pavements alongside road. Many groups of young teenagers enjoying cheap alcohol & quadbikes, not as bad as Laganos but not far off it."

Another fantastic fortnight in Zante at Windmill Bay
"This was our 6th year to Argassi and Windmill Bay; it is the most beautiful setting with the sea beside the pool. We have returned to the same venue so many times due to the wonderful service we receive, Effie the hotel receptionist ensures that all our needs are met, Maria at the pool bar makes wonderful breakfast and lunch. The owners and their family take very hands on approach in the running of the apart hotel. The pool and sun lounging area is very scenic with a beautiful pool and a baby pool for the little ones. This apart hotel is situated in the village Argassi and is a 5 minute walk into the main area where all the restaurants and bars etc are located, itâs nice being close to all the amenities but also nice to be away from any noise or passing trade.
We hire a scooter each year, this year we hired from a place opposite the Green Frog, they were very competitive and very helpful, we explored the island, it is very beautiful with some breathtaking scenery, beautiful beaches and friendly locals. In past years we have visited the water park, which is close by, but didnât get a chance to go there this year.
Our favourite restaurant over the years is Papillion (beside Zorbas) the food and service is always excellent. We also enjoyed a meal at Granada and Green Frog amongst others; these were good and reasonably priced. We had a meal in Premier which is opposite the supermarket Best, this too was very good.
The Dr whose practice is opposite the supermarket Best is Dr Katerina and she is wonderful, very knowledgeable and very thorough, I would definitely recommend her if you are unfortunate enough to need to see a Dr whilst in Argassi.
I would recommend this location for families with children of all ages, the apartments sleep 5 comfortably. The apartments have a bedroom, separate lounge room, separate kitchen/dining area and bathroom and a balcony which looks out over the pool and sea. Both the bedroom and lounge have separate doors out onto the balcony so you donât have to disturb any of your family asleep in the lounge. The apartments are well equipped with everything you need in the kitchen to cook breakfast, lunch & dinner. Their sister apart hotel (which is 5 minutes up the road) is also beautiful and has studios rather than apartments.
In the past we have flown with Thompson from Gatwick, Luton and Birmingham, we flew with Thomas Cook this year from Birmingham and didnât enjoy the flight; the seats were extremely cramped, if you are taller than 5ft 8 you will be wedged in your seat for the flight!! We find it best to book the flights independently and email Jenny the owner of Windmill Bay to book accommodation, cuts out the middle man. Easy jet now also flies from Gatwick to Zane. Have a look at Windmill Bay for yourself; follow this link to their website

Mr M Reynolds
"On holidays the first two weeks in September and found the acc to be of a high standard, all apartments had sea views and where cleaned daily with bed linen and towels changed every 3/4 days, the pool area is well run with a good snack bar operating, unfortunately there is no beach, but a taxi ride (12 euro)to ST Nikolaos beach(lots of music and water sports)or the much more sedate Plaka beach is only 15 minutes away, all the staff at Windmill bay are helpful and very plesant and will go out of their way to sort any problems for you.
The main strip is a 10 minute walk with a good selection of restaurants available, but be careful when walking as the paths (when available)are very narrow, and uneven, as for local drivers!!!!!, I recommend a visit to Zorbas as we had some very good nights there. and for breakfast try Ruby's. Overall we had a very good holiday in Argassi and will revisit soon.
Ps: the Greek night on mondays organised by Eiffe is good value and well worth attending.
Ps eile: another worth while trip when dinner is finished is the Cave bar in Kalamaki which is only 10 minutes away in a Taxi"

Wonderful Hotel in a great location
"The windmill Bay is situated at the far end of the Argassi resort, about 10 mins walk to the centre. Wonderful hotel right on the seafront, with about 10 steps down to the sea. No sand but the best of both worlds, you could swim in the sea and come back to sit on the grass area to sunbathe. Food in the pool bar was very reasonable and food was good. Drinks about average for the resort (3 euro for a large beer, 2 euro for soft drinks). Apartments were of a good size and cleaned regularly, There were 5 of us and was not cramped at all even though there is only 1 bedroom, one of the best accomodations we've stayed at in Greece and we've been about 8 times to different islands. Argassi itself was your usual small resort, one long strip of shops/restaurants. Our favouries were the Venetsiana up past the Fantasy golf place, cheapest of all the restaurants we tried and also the best food, the Afrodite in the main square on the roof terrace also very good. Tried the Ethnic after reading good reviews, but not that impressed, basically fast food dressed up!
all in all The windmill Bay was excellent and would highly recommend."

Believe all other reviews, this place is 10/10
"No point of leaving a long review, just believe all the others you read about the Windmill Bay Aparthotel 10/10 ( dont get confused with the studios, they are seperate places ), Windmill Bay Apatment has it all, quiet location, great pool, shallow sea down steps from gardens of hotel, this is a real rare thing as its one of the only hotels on the sea side of the road to have a pool, but this has pool and sea.
Overall, not to be faulted, short flat walk into Argassi ( Road can be a bit mad as not very many pavements ), but when your there go to Zorbas and Premier for food and Red Lion for later drinks as Ken and Jude are great hosts"
