Hotel satisfactory, avoid the food
"The hotel is really near the airport. 15 Euros for the taxi. Svoronata is lovely. There are plenty of tavernas within walking distance of the hotel, all serving good typical Greek food at a nice price.
The hotel is basic. The pool area is nice and the pool bar serves a good lunch. The rooms are very clean.
Breakfast is limited continental, but acceptable. Dinner is really awful - canteen style food, no imagination, not Greek in any way, and there is little choice. We had dinner one night and did not return.
I recommend Svoronata for a holiday, the hotel is satisfactory if you are not expecting luxury (by the way, our room still had a hip bath - they are a real safety hazard). However, I would not recommend booking this hotel half board."

Thank you Irinna
"I have just spent a week at the Irinna hotel. My 10 year old son and I enjoyed a peaceful and relaxed time in pleasant surroundings. As we did not spend much time in our room we found it to be perfectly adequate for our needs, we didnt expect a luxury room however it was both clean and had an excellent sea view from the balcony. The pool was well maintained and cleaned every morning. The pool side taverna provided fresh good quality greek food until 4.30pm. daily. My son enjoyed playing table tennis and volleyball with the table tennis table and volleyball areas provided. After the initial shock of low flying planes (I would have to say looking at the map of the island before arriving it was obvious that there had to be some aircraft noise from its location so near to the airport), the frequency of the air traffic is far from heavy and my son who is interested in aeroplanes was fascinated by them and considered them a bonus!! I felt that the hotel provided a safe, clean environment for children well separated from the road and within walking distance of excellent beaches, local mini markets and family owned tavernas. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and offers a wide range of foods. Overall The Irinna Hotel is a welcoming, family friendly hotel that represents the warmth and friendliness of Kefallonian people and is good value for money. I would recommend it for families and older people for its relaxed atmosphere and as a base to explore the southern part of the island from."

Back after 10 years
"Perhaps the previous reviewers comments weren't helped by having a 24 hour flight delay because we returned to the Irinna at the end of May after a 10 year gap, and were delighted with our weeks stay. Yes there is noise when the planes come in if they are flying over the hotel, but there are so few of them that they are an event rather than a major disturbance. We were please to see that all rooms now have air conditioning and that there had been a number of other improvements including showers rather than small hip baths, redecoration, new pool bar and a new outside dining area.
Remember that it is a Greek 3 star hotel and as such I think that it gives real value for money. The pool and surrounding area is great, plenty of sunbeds, chairs, tables and natural shade under the trees. There is a large children's play area with swings, slides and roundabouts as well as 2 tennis courts for those mad enough to play in the heat. There is also a table tennis table in the shade by the pool area. The pool its self is large, beautifully kept, and has a small children's pool at the side, separated by a small fence from the main pool.
The rooms though a little basic and a little small now have tv sets and as we only use the rooms for sleeping in not lounging about in are fine. All have a small balcony and either over look the pool area and gardens or look up the valley. We prefer the valley view rooms as they are shaded for most of the day and so don't get as hot. Ask for an upper floor, 2 or 3 from the 3rd floor you get a good view over Svoranata and if you're lucky a good view of the runway!
The staff are great, they even remembered us from 10 years ago and bought us free drinks on the first night. The food, buffet breakfast and buffet evening meal is not spectacular but had enough variety at each meal to satisfy us both.
The district that the hotel is in , Svoronata, is a quiet area, which is why we chose it all those years ago, and is still quiet and laid back. The nearby beaches of Ammes and Avithos are both with a 10 minute stroll of the hotel.
All in all we were once again delighted with our stay at the Irinna Hotel and hope that is not 10 years before we return again."

Remember the earplugs!!
"We stayed here for a night at the end of our holiday as our flight was subject to an overnight delay. To be fair to the place it doesn't either market or price itself as being a luxury destination but if you are thinking of staying there for a holiday you should be aware that it is directly under the flightpath as planes land in the nearby airport. It is VERY noisy when they come in to land and flights come in early and throughout the morning and evening.
The hotel and rooms are also looking tired and out of date. Our room was damp and actually cold despite it having been a very hot day, and the furniture and facilities were very basic. The electrics were also dodgy (one light switch was hanging off the wall) which is a major worry if you have children with you. I don't think the local beaches are that suitable for kids either, although the outdoor areas around the hotel seemed ok.
The staff were friendly enough and did their best to help but if you add in to the above that the food is also poor I would try your luck in nearly Lassi or Argostoli even for an overnight stay near the airport and definitely wouldn't recommend this place for a holiday."

We booked our holiday as part of a last...
"We booked our holiday as part of a last minute deal and the price for the week was extremely reasonable - under £300 pp for a weekâs stay on a Half Board basis, therefore we were little worried that the accommodation wouldnât be up to much. However, our expectations were wrong...
Hotel Irinna, while not a 'luxury' resort, was an excellent place to stay for a relaxed beach break. It was a large hotel but extremely clean, with large airy rooms and friendly staff. While it was basic, you had everything you needed - free air conditioning on request, a large comfortable bed (we had to ask for an extra pillow, but this was not a problem for the staff), and a balcony with beautiful views of the coast.
The bathroom was a little shabby, with a small area separated by a flimsy curtain for a shower, but this is often the way in Greek hotels, and everything functioned, so it didnât make much difference to our enjoyment of the holiday.
Food was on the whole lovely, and you could help yourself to as much as you wanted and eat out on the beautiful terrace to watch the sun set. However, expect predominantly Greek food for dinner - English food was available sometimes but not always as you would expect back home, with some odd combinations (Brussel sprouts and chips anyone?!), but I always enjoy eating local food on holiday and it was always fresh and flavoursome.
The gardens are beautiful and surrounded by trees, which constantly hummed with the sound of cicadas & crickets! The pool was fairly large and very clean but always quite busy.
One of the best things about the hotel was its location - there is not a great deal to do in Svoronata but if you're after quiet relaxation on the beach, it is perfect, with one lovely beach only a 5 minute walk away or another 2 about 15-25 minutes walk from the hotel.
There were also a few good tavernas and bars a short distance from the hotel and a couple of shops for snacks and essentials. We found it was so hot (we went in July), that walking far was not really an option anyway, and we spent our days on the beach, with a lazy stroll around the area, looking at the picturesque Kefalonian houses and gardens nearby after dinner when it was slightly cooler.
There is also a frequent daily bus service from just outside the hotel, which goes into the main town, Argostoli which we found very handy.
There is also a bar in the hotel, serving a wide range of drinks, with a friendly chatty barman, and a terrace. A small gift-shops sells Greek souvenirs and post-cards.
All in all, we had a fantastic holiday and couldnât really have asked for better - the hotel was comfortable and offered everything required for a lazy, relaxing beach break! Perfect for families and couples.
