Returned from this lovley place 29nd jun...
"Returned from this lovley place 29nd june 2008, beautiful island and the cleanest hotel me and my partner have ever stayed in the breakfasts were brill great selection of fresh fruit ,yogurt, cereals and varied day to day hot food bacon and eggs ect, we ate in the hotel restaurant a couple of nights also and couldnt fault the food at all and the pizzas were to die for, the combination of sea, sun and delicious food made us have an unforgettable romantic holiday , the staff were very hospitable and helpful and very welcoming, but the bar man was totaly laid back and slow..you had to shout him to be served and eventually he came. The room was cleaned every day and clean towels and bed changed mid week. Must say though not enough information about the hotel its very very remote and you do need a hire car, and the island only has 2 cash points in Agastoli the capital (we were told this by our rep ?) and when we went one was broke (ohh :-( how we paniked !!!)..no cash point at the airport either DOH!!!!. We had a taxi into Agastoli from the hotel which cost us 12 euros. (OOH! and you can still smoke anywere in greece what a treat for all the smokers out there).........this was mine and my partners first holiday together and its a very romantic place to go we came back even more in love, and totally chilled out, but its not for children not enough to do just a pool, so we were glad we went on our own, we walked to a few local resturants on a couple of nights :-) but blimey it was miles you would walk up the road surrounded by fields then all of a sudden a restaurant or if you were lucky two together but then you would have to walk back along a dark road and miles and miles of dark road there was. We would highly recommend this hotel though and we plan to go back for our 5yr anniversary, Kefalonia is a romantic island and there are fantastic breathtaking sunsets its just remote and apparently most of the island is the same, hope you go and enjoy it like we did Shell & Les"

Wonderful Hotel, Exceptional Service
"My husband and I stayed at the Astra Village Hotel a while back and we had a wonderful vacation! The hotel is new and is run by a very friendly and welcoming family, who we felt, went out of their way to make our stay a pleasure.
The villas are large and exceptionally clean, and every effort was made to accommodate us. The hotel is within walking distance of a quite beach, but we often took a taxi out to explore the island and the other beaches such as Platys Gialos and Xi, to name a few. We liked that the hotel was not on the main strip, which made it a great base for exploring the island while enjoying a quiet environment.
Our favorite part about the hotel, and definitely the focal point is the huge pool and the bar area, which is a great place to hang out when you don't feel like going into the main town. One night we decided to stay by the bar and had such a wonderful time chatting with the owners and meeting other hotel guests.
There is so much to do in Cephalonia that you can't possibly get bored! We can't wait to come back to this hotel to visit our friends and to see this beautiful island again!"

"We enjoyed a fabulous holiday at the Astra Village.
The accommodation is absolutely spotless and the staff are great. Although located near the airport - there is virtually no noise - in fact itâs great watching the occasional plane coming into land.
Nearby Lassi beach is a dream, warm sea, lots of sunbeds and nice cafe's.
This is a quiet island, not for the party animal! Make sure that you hire a car and travel round especially to Myrtos beach its fabulous."

"Just returned from a week's stay at the wonderful Astra Village, and we can't recommend this hotel enough.
The hotel is close to the airport but not close enough to present much of a noise problem, we weren't disturbed more than twice during the week by noise from planes. The hotel is so tranquil and in such an idyllic location that it wouldn't have mattered anyway, we only needed an hour by the gorgeous pool on the first day to feel totally relaxed!
We received such a warm welcome by the family who own and run the hotel and nothing was too much trouble, they sorted out our request for a hire car with efficiency and even gave tips on the best beaches to visit. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the apartments are extremely clean and spacious. We were upgraded to a suite due the quiet time of year, with a huge bed and bigger balcony, spotlessly clean bathroom and fully working air conditioning. Although we visited in early October the temperature was in the late 20s and we managed to get a tan, apparently not unusual for Kefalonia.
Our one and only complaint would be the half board food options in the hotel restaurant, and this is a very small complaint because it was our choice when booking to go half board. The hotel restaurant is fabulous and we spoke to guests from other hotels who had come to the Astra Village again and again to eat because of the great food. The menu did look fantastic, however half board guests are not given choices from the menu and have a set menu. This was quite restrictive and catered for the Brit abroad, no Greek choices at all, however the quality was still good. We opted to go out to eat for some of the week and the choice of local tavernas and restaurants is excellent. The Astra Village's snack menu is also fantastic and we enjoyed some great lunches by the frankly astounding pool.
We wish we'd booked 2 weeks rather than 1 and will certainly return to the Astra Village. If you're looking for a relaxing break in a beautiful Greek island then the Astra Village is perfect for you."

"Myself and partner stayed at Astra Village for 1 week in August 2007. I booked on the basis of the fantastic reviews I had read on Trip Advisor prior to booking our holiday, and we were not to be dissappointed!
Upon arrival at the hotel you will receive a very warm welcome. In fact that whole time we were there, you could not fault the hospitable and friendly nature of this hotel - nothing was a trouble to any of the staff.
The standard of accomodation is the best we have stayed in in Greece, and we've visited many other islands over the past few years. As all other reviews state, not only the rooms but the whole complex is spotless! Beds were really comfy and every room has a wonderful view of the sea. There's also facilities to make tea/coffee and a fridge - always handy. Air conditioning worked a treat and believe me, we needed it! (It was hitting 40 degrees whilst we were there) Bathroom again spacious and really modern. It's a really home from home feel at the Astra Village.
The pool area is nice and relaxing atmosphere. It's never overcrowded - there were always plenty of sunbeds and parasols.
You can get snacks from the bar at lunchtime every day with a good range of snacks.
Breakfast was superb- almost everything was in it - as English breakfast.
Elia restaurant was suberb too, with a good variety of dishes, with reasonable prices, and high quality food. The chef's is doing really a great job. I had the most amazing, tasty, juicy fillet mignon ever. The Kephalonian choices is also a must.
We had dinner here almost every night, and once we tried a close by tavern, but we were very much dissapointed.
We enjoyed also the entertainment during barbeque night when we had great food, greek dancing, great fun.
We don't have any kids, but I would say this is a suitable place to take children, as there is a play area for the kids, and a play room.
We really had a marvellous stay, and definately will go back next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Asra Village absolutely fabulous.
"We have just enjoyed a fabulous three week holiday at the Astra Village with our two friends. Every aspect of our stay was first class. The rooms were lovely, nice and spacious and kept spotlessly clean with a plentiful supply of clean towels and linen. The small kitchen area was really handy and the full size fridge was great for cold drinks etc. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and varied. All the staff, were polite and friendly and extremely helpful we cannot praise them enough. The location is very good with tavernas serving very good meals a short walk away. The airport did not bother us one bit - there really are very few flights and it's great fun watching the planes land. Car hire is a must to make the most of your holiday. We loved the beach at Lassi, the sea was lovely and warm. Some of the views on the island are quite spectacular including Myrtos Beach and Assos. A must to visit are Fiscardo and also Agia Effimia. The boat trip to Ithaca is great.
We recommend the Astra village as 10/10.

Please Take Note....
"We booked these apartments through Thomas Cook and wanted a quiet break.
Previous reviews said there was not much aircraft noise - wrong - the planes are quite frequent and are literally coming into land right above the complex.
Although these apartments are well above average and much better than the 4* hotel rooms on the island the complex is let down by the food and drinks it offers to its customers.
Towels changed daily and rooms cleaned daily and constant supply of loo rolls and some lovely smellies in bathroom.
As the complex is a fair distance away from some of the better tavernas i suggest you hire a car even if you are only here for a week. The menu is restricted and over priced and we had cold food served on more than one occasion -when we complained we were told that our money would not be refunded as it had already been rung through the till, we were promised free drinks but this never happened.
Cocktails served at the bar are almost double that of the local tavernas and have far less alcohol in them.
Breakfast is buffet style but the only nearly hot item served were eggs - catering mainly for the German guests.
Please make the effort to walk to the Acropolis taverna as the food and staff here are superb! Also try the Ammes but avoid the first taverna you come to as this was like hells kitchen!
Pool area is very quiet and i think most folks opt for the beach just down the road which also has a cheap and cheerful mobile snack bar that actually serves better food than the apartment bar.
All in all beautiful island but car hire a must."

the warmest welcome
"Although we visited towards the end of the season, from the start of our stay, the holiday was superb. The staff were friendly and helpful, the accomodation was fresh and clean, (in fact a cleaner came every day), and the food was imaginative, well prepared and well presented. The sandy beaches were only a short walk from the apartments, and with beach bars on most, it didn't matter if there was a spot of rain! The Astra is well presented with wonderful views from the swimming pool/terrace, and even though there was a little aircraft noise, (a few 'planes a day) it really didn't matter, both myself and my husband just enjoyed the fact that we were on our honeymoon! Highly recommended."

"We stayed at the Astra Village Hotel in Cephalonia in September 2006 and had a wonderful holiday. The hotel is in a quiet location and the staff were extremely friendly and could not have been more helpful despite it being near the end of the season. The accommodation is superb , very clean and comfortable and with remote control air conditioning included in the price. The daily maid service was excellent. There is a beautiful pool set in quiet gardens with comfortable sun loungers and parasols.
The restuarant in the hotel is very good and sevice excellent. The nearby beach was clean and only a short walk form the accommodation. Svoronata is quite ner the airport but we did not find the noise a problem at all.We hired a car to explore the island which is really beautiful although the roads are a little hair raising! Nearby Argostoli is a pleasant town - the best restaurants however are to be found in the back steets away form the main square. We would definatley recommend this accommodation to anyone who likes a quiet , romantic location."

Relax in Svoronata
"We can truly say the holiday was excellent. We found the Astra Appartments to be both clean and welcoming. The staff could not have been more friendly and the food was of a very good standard. The resort of Svoronata is very quiet and would not suit those seeking a busy "night life"---- it is the place to relax -- no doubt about that!!!
The appartments are very well planned and afford a great degree of privacy. Overall we were very pleased with our choice."

"The Astra Village is a beautiful hotel with Ionion Achitecture and well-thought out accommodation. Clean rooms and friendly staff - it certainly beat the usual Greek standards.
The main foyer is set with the eating area around the pool where we could sit and watch the sun set. The rooms are located through the landscaped gardens, set in blocks so each has a sea or garden view.
If I were told before-hand that the airport runway were visible from the hotel I would have stayed away. However, this is not a busy island with the weekend probably having the most traffic. We laughed about how it was actually quite nice to see the odd plane landing as they came in low and landed below the elevated hotel level. This may be why there was little noise. It was really not a problem.
I liked staying at Svoronata and visited Lassi whcih was more bucket and spade with restaurants and bars lining the road. The beach eas also good.
If I were to advise someone to go I would reccommend the main city (I forget the name!) as this was not over industrialised and pleasant to walk around at night.
Kephalonia was nice to see once but I would personally want to return. There was little heritage and car hire is best as the villages are dotted around the rugged land-scape.
Guide books say the Kephalonians are a proud people and on the whole we found them to be very friendly. However, the service was not always up to standard, (lots of wrong orders and sitting around for half an hour to find we had been forgotten) and the food was not always as good as it could have been. We had the odd shop keeper be inexplicably very rude but I am glad to say this was the exception."

"New bungalow style hotel at Kefalonia with impeccable beauty of the surroundings, astonishing views to the sea, colourful gardens, very clean, friendly owners & staff.
We had unforgettable holidays, really feeling at home.
With a large pool, with Jacuzzi sets, we got the total feeling of rest and calm, having refreshing cocktails from the bar, or having excellent dishes for lunch or dinner at the Elia restaurant overlooking the excellent view, with the most wonderful sunset I have ever seen.
The decoration of the whole resort is astonishing with morn style, and the pathways with colourful flowers and trees gives you a real escape for relaxation."
