"well, what can i say...makis is one of the best holidays i have ever been on and are certainly going back soon. i went with my boyfriend, his parent and their friends and it catered for all our needs.
there was so much to do in the day and the night, the beach is just accross the road with great water sports facilities and great for snorkelin. there is also a bus going to the near by villages with some great scenery. the island tour is also a must. the breakfast at the hotel is lovely, just what u needed for a boilling greek morning i can say the cake was to die for!
the pool is lovely and everyone there was so friendly, one day it got so hot everyone was in the pool, we even got free cocktails in the pool!
the nighlife was perfect not too much but enough to last you two weeks, we went in a different resteraunt everynight and still didnt get around them all. i can reckomend the aquarious resteraunt which was the best.
cocktails at the hotel where to die for, specialy made by the bar man dennis YAMMAS! his special cocktail was sooo nice and they are all half price during happy hour (6-7). the greek night is also a must the food is lovely and the dancing is amazing.
i can assure you your holiday at the makis will be the nicest you have ever had thanks to the great staff and he lovely island"

Reviews Are Spot On
"I checked the reviews of the Makis Hotel before booking with Kosmar. Hotel is in a fantastic position opposite the beach. Even though its on the main coast road, traffic is not too much of a nuisance. Room was above average for Greece. Shower cubicle and hairdryer. Air conditioning, safe and fride. As reviews say the staff are wonderful and cant do enough for you. Breakfast was continental, plentiful if a bit repeative. Toasters were a bit of a nightmare but I've come across worse in Bulgaria.
A few of the owners family were around the pool one day, but that was the only day there were kids around. Very mixed age group staying and majority got on, which is unusal as usually british can be a bit anti social. We all went night down the road to the Rat Pack tribute. Was a good night out.
Felt safe around the resort and for Greece surprisingly well lit.
Tried a few of the Tavernos, most basically same menus and prices same. We used the Scadinivia mostly.
Wouldnt advise the Water Taxi, you have to go up a Step Ladder on the beach to get on the boat. A bit too hot and nothing to do for four hours. We left the money for the Water Taxi with the Taverna chap and came back by Taxi. Which only worked out 1 Euro dearer than the boat and the Taxi driver was friendly. Think we saw more too.
Will go back to the Makis again, but not for a couple of years."

Ideal Loction, Lovely People
"My husband and I stayed at the Makis Hotel for a week in September. I booked the hotel direct by telephone, it's the first time I have done this and was somewhat concerned, I needn't have been, our room was ready when we arrived and they wouldn't even take a deposit when I made the booking. They made us feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are very clean and have everything you could need including plenty of wardrobe space. We had a sea view room which was quite unexpected but appreciated! The hotel is in an ideal location, just a short walk into Skala for some great restaurants. We rented a scooter for the week and managed to get out and about to Sami Beach and Argostoli, although we didn't manage to get up to Fiskardi - just too uncomfortable on a scooter for that length of time!! The breakfast is the typical continental buffet style which is fine by us.
I can't recommend this hotel enough, the staff go out of their way to be welcoming without being intrusive. We plan to return next June and take our friends with us this time."

"Myself and my husband have just returned from 2 weeks at the Makis Hotel in Skala. This was our 3rd visit to Kefalonia but the first time we have stayed at the Makis. The location of the hotel is ideal especially if you don't like walking up hills! The hotel is beautiful, pool area is great and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful - Rula and crew - we miss you!!
We are currently planning our next trip in October and it can't come soon enough and we will definately be staying at the Makis again."

"We have just returned from our holiday in Kefalonia where we stayed at the Makis Hotel in Scala. We had the most wonderful time due mainly to the staff at this hotel right down from the owner and his wife to the ladies who kept our room spick and spam! Our room was of a decent size with a view of the beach and the whole hotel is spotlessly clean. The pool area is lovely with a bar which serves delicious snacks. Scala itself is not at all over developed and while we were there, 6-20th May it was fairly quiet. The only down side for us is the fact that there were no buses running and we would normally like to travel around using the local bus. I have been told that they do run later in the season but only one a day to Poros and one to Argostoli . There are plenty of restaurants and tavernas which serve a very high standard of food. To top it all the weather was beautiful! Well done Makis Hotel"

"We recently returned from a holiday at the Makis Hotel and had a really relaxing time. The hotel is in a great location, literally just across the road from the beach and a few minutes walk into main area of Skala, Itâs well worth staying at this hotel.
Our room was very good, right at the front with a great view of the beach and the sea and best of all it had blackout shutters (a must for me as I canât sleep if itâs light) it was regularly cleaned and had air conditioning (essential!), a fridge and safe, all at no extra charge!! Breakfast was a bit repetitive toast, cereal, cheese, ham etc but perfectly acceptable. However the Greek Yoghurt was to die for (watch it ladies itâs got lots and lots of calories!!) The only drawback was that breakfast wasnât served until 8am and most of the trips leave at 7 â 7.30 and also that was the best time to see the spectacular sunrise from the breakfast room balcony.
The pool area was great nice and clean and with a refreshing sea breeze which was a Godsend. There were a limited number of sun beds so it wasnât always possible to get by the pool, and the beach although lovely to look at was very stoney â so if youâre a beach lover make sure you take some Jelly Shoes or other appropriate footwear. The pool is also open to the public and some days there were q number of very noisy kids there â which was a shame as there werenât actually that many children at the hotel.
Skala as a resort has a number of shops, bars and good restaurants all reasonably priced. We read quite a few of the reviews on here and decided to try and avoid all the usually âBritâ restaurants â after all we can do that at home!
On our first night there we found a wonderful little Greek Taverna which only served Grills but the food was good (despite the customary chips with everything!) the staff hardly spoke any English and the restaurant was populated by a constant stream of locals, it was a great place for people watching! We even had the company of a couple of Green Orthodox Priests one evening! And best of all a Litre of house wine was on 4.70 Euros (and it was pretty good wine too). Needless to say we went back there at least 4 out of the 7 nights. Iâm not going to tell you the name Iâll leave you to discover it for yourself â and hopefully youâll have a nice Greek experience like we did.
We were going to hire a car but after the first day we felt so chilled out we couldnât be bothered driving so we booked a couple of trips. We booked through Panem on the main street and the trips were on average 13 euros per person cheaper than the ones with the Rep, also if you booked 2 main trips they threw in a free half day in Agostoli. We did the Island tour by coach itâs a long old day but well worth it, make sure youâve got plenty of space on your digital camera and be prepared for breathtaking views!! We also did the 3 island boat trip and whilst it was great being at sea we were a little disappointed with the âsun deckâ on the boat. We thought weâd be able to laze around and sunbathe in between taking a dip in the sea â however the deck was crowded with chairs and there wasnât anywhere to relax and lay back. It wa salos a long day out. In hindsight we wish weâd just done one of the shorter boat trips.
All in all it was a really lovely place to go and itâs the first place for a long long time that has made me want to go back again! So go and Enjoy!!!"

"I stayed at the Makis Hotel in Skala (not in Agia Efimia) in August 06. The location of the hotel is great, with the beach accross the road and the resort centre just 5 minutes away. Although the room were quite basic, they were very clean and staff was very friendly. Good value hotel. Excellent restaurants around, but not much to do in Skala apart from going to the beach or stay in the swimming pool."

OK Hotel, Excellent Resort
"Just got back from a weeks holiday in Scala at the Makis Hotel. The hotel itself was OK. Well looked after with friendly staff. However because of our late booking we had an awful view of a wall and not the sea view which we were promised!! The rooms are fairly spacious with free air-conditioning and a fridge (much needed). The fridge did manage to wake me up each night though as it was quite loud! We were B&B, breakfast was 8-10am each day with a lovely view onto the beach and sea from the balcony. The breakfast was quite a basic continental breakfast. Was very disapointed at the lack of fruit on offer to go with the greek yoghurt and honey. Just lots of bread with a toaster on the blink. Was not very impressed with the pool area - was quite small. All the beds seemed to be bagged early each day and anyone off the road was welcome to join the crowd. Not quite the image in the brochure. However with a beautiful beach opposite my boyfriend and I relaxed there instead, listening to the waves lapping up and enjoying the beautiful scenery. The hotel was only a 5 minute walk from the centre of the resort where you are spoilt for choice of resturants. Definitely a good location. Will definitely be going back to Scala another year but don't think we'll bother with the Makis. The hotel was fine but we were hoping for a little bit more that it just didn't have."
