Laid Back Lixouri
"A week at the wonderful hidden gem that is the Hotel Summery, just a short walk from the town centre, was fantastic. The service is fisrt class, and the atmosphere at this cozy hotel is brilliant. A couple of km away is the fabulous beach of Lepada.
All you need for a great holiday. and there's more. Regular ferry to Argostoli, more great beaches on the peninsula, smiling friendly people everywhere."

Anush & Adrey
"We were travelling in Greece during this month and 10 days of that period we stayed in Summery. First of all we must say that the hotel fully correspond to all the needs, veeery clean and the staff is soo nice (expecially Yana and many thanks to her), that you feel very good and don't even notice how the days are passing. It has a nice pool, clean as well, so if you are just lazy to go to the sea, it is enough, and besides you can have your breakfast in a nice garden in front of the hotel, so it makes your day even more perfect.
Only a couple of minutes from hotel you can find many tavernas and the center of Lixouri, as well as the small port and the boat that will take you to Argostoli within 15 minutes (2.30 EUR cost).
Next to the hotel you can find a car rent and have a car for a couple of days in order to see the island.
You can walk to Lepeda beach from the hotel (2 km), but we tried to take a taxi to take us to Xi (which is very crowded by people and umbrellas are very close to each other), and that costed us 15 Eur (two way), so sometimes it was ok.
The beach of hotel is a little bit wild one without umbrellas, so if somebody likes that way, then it is perfect:)
In general we must say, that if we decide to go to Kefalonia again, we will definitely stay again in Summery hotel, without even looking for another one, because they have everything you need."

Quiet Friendly Hotel, Beautiful Island
"We have just returned from a lovely week at the Summery hotel. Previous reviews have said how friendly and caring the people who run this hotel are and it is so true. We arrived at a few minutes after 11pm and we must have looked a bit pathetic because the man on reception told us if we wanted to eat we would have to go out straight away as the restaurants closed early at midnight as it was not the height of the season yet. He told us how to find the restaurants so after we had parked our cases in our room off we went. Despite the lateness were welcomed and given lovely food. The welcoming kindness of all the people we met was a theme throughout the week.
Our room was quite small but had a fridge, a safe, a Tv, and air conditioning all free. The bathroom had a narrow shower cubicle which leaked water over the floor. This didn't bother us but must have added to the washing bills as we had to mop the floor with the lovely clean towels. All the towels were replaced every day and the room kept very clean by the chambermaids.
The view from the balcony was amazing looking over the sea to the opposite coast with the hills and small towns in the distance.
Breakfast was simple with bread, cereal, ham, cheese, hard boiled eggs and olives. The tea and coffee were good quality which is often not the case in hotels.
The restaurants all provide a good standard of food apart from the one on the corner of the square and the sea front road called 'Greek Kitchen' the standard of food here is very poor and I imagine it must be an embarrassment to the other restaurant owners.
I persuaded my husband not to take his driving licence thinking there would be lots of organised trips but this was not the case so we did not see as much of the island as we would have liked. The ferry goes on the hour from Lixouri to the capital Argostoli and returns on the half hour to Lixouri. The ferry takes cars and foot passengers and is extremely reliable. There are buses from Argostoli but the service is not very extensive.
Lixouri is a quiet town and the visitors seem to be much more interested in sightseeing than in sun worshipping.
We arranged this holiday with Thomas Cook as a package deal as there is only one flight per week to Kephalonia from Newcastle and this is a Thomas Cook flight so this was the cheapest way to do it. I know that all charter flights are a bit cramped but this was the most cramped I have been on for a long time. The bus was not waiting for us when we got out of the airport and even when it did arrive we had to drive all round another resort dropping people off then we still had an hours drive to reach Lixouri. It took nearly 3 hours from landing to reaching our hotel and there were still people on the bus when we got off. We didn't go to the welcome meeting and consequently were given no information about excursions as there were no posters up in the hotel. Our transfer back to the airport was supposed to involve a taxi, the ferry and then a bus but the taxi did not turn up. The person on reception in the hotel was very upset on our behalf and was offering to take us to the airport herself. She eventually managed to contact someone from Thomas Cook and another taxi arrived which had to drive us all the way to the airport. The uncaring attitude of Thomas Cook was in great contrast to the warm, friendly Kephalonians. Go to Kephalonia but for your own sanity try not to involve Thomas Cook in your travel plans."

Friendly people and beautiful little town
"The hotel is very clean and well kept, the room are small but have everything you need, TV, fridge, free safe and hair dryer. The showers are nice and hot and clean towels provided every day. The hotel is family run and the family are lovely people very friendly and attentive but not intrusive. There is a 24 hour manned reception. We were on the 2nd floor with good views across to the main part of the island. Lixouri is a lovely little town with friendly people and you feel very safe walking around. Lots of restaurants and bars, although not all open at the start of the season. Nice walks either side of the town and around the town. It is a 10 minute walk to the ferry to Argostoli which runs every half an hour and only costs 2 euros. From Argostoli there is a nice costal walk to the lighthouse and it is an easy walk into Lassi, but nothing much there as it is a tourist resort. However there are some nice beaches and restaurants. I imagine if you hire a car you would explore the island easily. We never go back to the same place but hope to return here again soon."

We look forward ver much to visiting the Summery each year
"We have stayed at the Summery each year for over 11 years and very much hope to visit again later this year. Over the years we have come to regard the proprietors and their lovely family as dear friends and to miss a visit would be a very sad disappointment. We have also made friends and keep in touch with quite a few guests, who stay at the Summery at the same time as we do. Many other hotels would do well if they could achieve the same standard of hospitality, comfort and the gentle efficiency of the Summery. Long may they flourish !"

Our Little Oasis
"Once again we returned to the Summery, from our arrival at Kefalonia airport we are treat as VIPs, no matter what time you reach the Hotel there is someone waiting for you with a warm welcome. Our room on the top floor facing the bay, we wake up to a fantastic sunrise every morning, down to a generous breakfast and out to our little oasis, the pool and gardens and very friendly ducks. Out through the gardens and you have the biggest pool of all, the sea, it is beautiful and changes throughout the day. I could go on forever but instead we will return next year."

A lovely hotel
"My husband and I enjoyed our summer holiday there this year, everything was as previously descibed and this was the first vacation in years that I didn't need to change the room upon arrival. The rooms are a bit small, that is true, but very neat and tidy, and the staff is exceptionally pleasant. The sandy beach is just in front of the hotel, almost private. In particular, we loved having our breakfast in the garden near the pool, with all the flowers and birds adding to the relaxing atmosphere"

Best choice of all
"Nevertheless everything that previous rewievers wrote about Hotel Summery is completely true - I promised to Titika and her sister to write some compliments on their lovely hotel in Lixouri, Kefalonia, too. We have just returned from one of the best holidays we ever had. The hotel is lovely situated, close to the main square with all its happening, near the sea, but on enough distance to be quiet and peacefull at night. The pool and the garden are maintained well, there is enough shadow to hide from the burning sun at every hour of the day.
The cleaning ladies and kitchen / restaurant staff were very friendly and allways willing to help us. Rooms are rather small, but clean (clean towels every day!), air condition and fridge included in the price. Free web access, wireless on the terrace and garden. And most of all - kind, friendly people, warm wellcome and goodby. I reccomend strongly this hotel to all possible guests from Slovenia.
Best regards, Tina, Rok and Gaja Absec, Slovenia"

Exceeded our expectations
"We have just returned from a week at the Summery Hotel in Lixouri Kefalonia. The purpose of our visit was to visit friends who moved to Lixouri last year. We had our 17 year old teenage daugher with us and also her 20 year old cousin.
The hotel was in an excellent location. We had two adjoining twin rooms with sea views and a balcony to each room. The views from our rooms were wonderful - looking over the lovely hotel gardens and across to the sea and mountains.
The cost of the hotel included collection from the airport by a very friendly taxi who showed us lots of sights on our way to the hotel.
The hotel exceeded all our expectations. I had spent many hours on the internet looking at hotels in Kefalonia and we couldn't have chosen better. Everywhere was lovely and clean. The rooms were simply furnished but very clean and air conditioning was included (a necessity in temperatures of 39C !!)
Breakfast was taken in the garden each day but we also had a choice of eating on the terrace or inside the hotel if we preferred. The choice for breakfast was very good - especially the lovely Greek yogurt.
The hotel has a lovely pool in the gardens and it is just a very short walk through the garden to the beach. Walking into town is very easy as the hotel is situated less than five minutes away from all the shops, the harbour and ferry and the lovely square. We spent many evenings in Lixouri square as the atmosphere was great. It really felt as though we were visiting the real Greek Island and not merely a holiday resort.
The hotel has an internet corner where our daugher and her cousin were able to contact their friends in the UK. send e-mails etc. This was at no extra cost and an extremely useful extra, especially with teenagers who enjoyed being able to communicate with friends.
We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Kefalonia. All the staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome.
Lixouri is a lovely town - not too big but within easy reach (by ferry) of Argostoli the capital. It is a great place to visit and the Summery Hotel must be one of the best in the area."

Summery Hotel highly recommended
"We stayed at the Summery Hotel for seven days. This family run hotel in Lixouri Greece is wonderful. Titika and her family were of great assistance to us; from before our arrival until return to California, USA. Not having been to Greece we had many questions, but all questions were immediately answered in a very friendly manner. After we departed the hotel, the staff found that we had left expensive noise canceling headphones in our room. We were immediately notified by email and Titika arranged to send them to our home; which arrived in good order.
The hotel is well maintained. Although the rooms are a little small (US standards) they were comfortable, and the bathroom is good sized. We had the added bonus of a high floor with balcony and ocean view. Breakfast is served in the dinning room or very nice covered patio. The hotel has a lobby and also provides two computers for free email. There is a large swimming pool and a childrenâs pool. Beyond the pool is the bay beach; the beach does not have sand it is more like a lakeside.
The Summery is well situated in the town. It is a 10-minute walk to the Argostoli ferry, Main Square, and conference center. The town is on the quiet side. There are some shops and supermarkets. This is a great place to relax and use as a hub to visit other areas in Kefalonia. Tip: to rent a car from Greek rental agencies one must have an international driverâs license; or rent from Hertz at the airport."

"We had a great time at the Summery hotel. Although the building on the outside looks a bit old, the interior must have been recently and completely rennovated, because everything inside is brand new. I understand it is run by a family and the staff there was very helpful and discreet. It's situated right in the heart of the town of Lixouri and when we preferred eating outside, restaurants, cafes and bars are all at a walking distance.
The pool was clean and of a good size and the hotel is situated on a beach. We went to practically all the beaches of Lixouri and also took the 15 minute ferry to the otherside, to Argostoli. Having toured round the rest of Cephalonia, I think Lixouri has the nicest, cleanest and quietest beaches than the other side of Cephalonia. Apart from Antisamos and Myrto, personally I didn't find a beach that matched those of Lixouri.
Our stay was very pleasant and it definately prompted us to decided to revisit Lixouri next year. The staff made us feel very comfortable."
