Having booked our holiday only a couple ...
"Having booked our holiday only a couple of weeks before departing for Ithaka, we didn't know much about the island other than it was perfect for couples in which to relax. When we arrived in Lassi, Kefalonia, we were greeted by Minky, the Olympic rep who had a lovely envelope with all the itinerary for our weeks adventure including transfer details etc, all the I's were dotted and the T's crossed. We spent the first night in the Irilena hotel in Lassi as we had missed our ferry to Ithaca due to our flight getting in too late to travel onwards. The room we were given was basic but suited our needs for the one night. Next morning we were whisked to Sami to catch our ferry by taxi then picked up on Ithaca by another taxi and taken to our hotel - The Captain Yiannis apartments all in time for breakfast. The hotel was absolutely wonderful, clean rooms, fresh linen twice a week, rooms cleaned daily and very scenic and very well maintained. The staff were exceptionally friendly and as for Stephenos, the hotel manager, he could not do enough for you, even giving you his personal mobile number in the event of any emergency. The town was very chilled and the locals extremely friendly, and very good at English. Crime is almost non existent and the area is very clean and tidy. The holiday from start to finish was a dream and very relaxed with no one hassling you for excursions or to drink in their bar etc, the only drawback was on our return. Olympic put us in an apartment complex in Lassi prior to departing for the airport late on the last day. This resort was an example of the stereotypical Brit abroad, bingo and quiz nights, along with English papers, English beers and English food all available and served by an English waitress for those who missed old blighty for a week or two. We think our experience of Vathy and the Captain Yiannis rooms could not be easily beaten and that we were spoiled with the sheer excellence of this hotel and resort. 10/10 for Stephenos and his team."

"The bungalow was very well maintained, cleaned on a daily basis with towels and linen changed twice a week. Location was good being approx 10 minutes stroll from the village centre in one direction, and 5 mins to tavernas then 5 more mins to a pleasant beach in the other direction. The hotel manager, Stefanos, could not have been more helpful or attentive and apart from the service relating to the Captain Yiannis Hotel he arranged car and self-drive boat hire. The self-drive boats were most enjoyable and allowed for pleasant visits to villages and beaches in the North of the island and beaches in the South. However on some days when the sea looked choppy some more wary people decided to cancel their bookings. Many people enjoyed walking and organised walking tours are available on the island. Overall the holiday was excellent although anyone wanting to spend all the time at a beach should check their locations before booking as, apart from the small one away from the town, they could take up to 25 mins to reach on foot or need to reach by car or boat. Definitely the place to consider for those liking the quieter Greek holiday."

"My husband and I had a very good 2 weeks in June ,nice clean apartment ,sheets, towels changed regular, maid service daily and endless hot water! No complaints at all, the view from our terrace was fantastic. The island was all we hoped for, hired a scooter great way to explore Ithica, Vathy is a good place to stay plenty of tavernas to choose from. Poli beach at Stavros was a particular favourite with us ,excellent for snorkeling which my husband made great use of, hired a boat for the day and went across to Fiscado ,very reasonable. The only thing we would have changed was the time of arrival on the island (which I realised is because of the time of the flights) and Olympic could have laid on more than one taxi to meet 16 people."

I have just returned from a perfect holi...
"I have just returned from a perfect holiday on the island of Ithaca. It was exactly as I hoped it would be, a quiet fishing harbour, totally unspoilt by tourism. I stayed at the Captain Yiannis resort in Vathy, which was excellent. The rooms were clean and the view from my balcony was incredible. This was all made even better by the manager of the resort Stephanos, who was on hand to help with any request at all. I would recommend this holiday to couples and young families. It is peaceful and scenic and totally different to the usual package holidays. It was complete bliss. Two pieces of advice - ask for a sea view (unbelievable) and when you are eating out, order a lot of starters instead of a main course - this is what they do best. I also hired a scooter, which is a great way to see the island, as it is small with incredible views from all of the coastal roads. The only downside was the last day of the holiday, when we had to get the ferry back to Kefalonia (something I was very much looking forward to). We had to spend a day at a resort in Lassi, before our flight home that evening. Lassi is very near the capital of the island - Argostoli, which in my opinion was hellish. Tourism has if not ruined it, then been responsible for it. âI love Kefaloniaâ t-shirts and English signs are everywhere, along with litter and graffiti. I found the same at the beaches in Lassi. It was a world away from Ithaca, but maybe a good experience, as it made us all (the group returning from the island) realise just how amazing Ithaca had been. The resort - Metaxatos Studios was also pretty awful, with an unbelievably rude staff member behind the bar. It felt very much like a âBrits abroadâ kind of resort. I am glad I chose a very different kind of holiday! But this was just one day and worth it for the rest of the week. Ithaca is everything you could want for a quiet, peaceful holiday on a beautiful island."

"The apartment was very dirty, no cleaning by maid service just moving the dirty around, bad mould growing fridge, again never cleaned. Third bed in room 3/4 sized old camp bed not even suitable for my dog. Olympic have since stated this is all normal for Greece. Just read all the small print its appalling what they believe is acceptable. I would not recommend these apartments. Whilst staying here for the two weeks, all the other guests said they would be complaining to Olympic holidays as well. "
