Have to agree about the worst hotel on Corfu
"Well just got back from Corfu last friday night and thought i just had to write a review on this hotel, I wish I had read the reviews about it before we went as the one that states worst hotel ever is not far wrong, now we are a couple in our mid 40's so been about abit and was recomended this hotel as one of the best in the area, we arrived lateish on the friday night, after being told the restaurant was now shut we had to go in seach of food at 11 o clock at night, thank god for the Three Little Pigs across the road from the hotel, they saved our lives on more than one occassion. I feel like I am repeating everything that the member from southampton has said but he is so right, we experienced every problem that he states in his review, the other main problem that we came across which he didnt mention was the noise, in the bar they have a big 60" wide screen tele plus 2 or 3 smaller ones at every point in the bar and there is constant football on when ever you go in there, not being a football fan we did not use the bar very much at all and seeing as the dining room is part of the bar it was like sitting in the middle of wembley while trying to have a meal, we were not the only ones to complain about this either, and when the football wasn't on there was loud music everynight, now I dont mind a bit of loud music but when you have signs up in the reception asking for no noise around the hotel after midnight I find it a bit strange that this went on, we were on the top floor and on the saturday night we could still hear music and noise at 2 o clock in the morning. The hotel its self was very clean and the maid came in everyday and most of the staff were pleasant, but I would not say that they would do anything for you, the 2 girls on reception were about the most helpful people we found there, Sidari itself is very english, with a Mcdonalds and a Southern Fried Chicken shop in the town as is the hotel with its food, for a greek hotel the food was very bad, I dont mean you couldn't eat it because it was eatable but after the same things night in night out we ended up going else where for dinner just to try some proper greek food, and he was so right about the Smash, it was either smash or chips everynight, we didnt use the pool because it had a bit of a green tinge to it when we were there, I have never seen a pool loike that in any hotel I stayed in before. The one oppersite which is the apartments the hotel actually owns was cleaned everyday and was crystal clear. Sidari beach leaves a lot to be desired, it was just awful and smelly but if you walked around the coast a little way there are a couple of coves that were much better and safer for children, the other problem we had out there was the mosquitoes, they were plagued with them and it was a relief to come home and not be bitten, and quite a few people went down with a 24/36 hour bug thing that was going abouot out there, me included. Corfu is a beautiful place and I would not hesitate to go back there again but anyone who is thinking about Sidari and the Alkion Hotel for hoilday please do some reseach on the place before you go. Head for the west coast if you want to see real greek living as it is, and there are some great beaches on the west coast and some great people. If your a fan of Southend on Sea and love fish and chips with a bit of sun then Sidari is for you."

"we have just returned from a holiday at the Alkion. It is situated just on the outskirts of the main strip so is ideal for everyone, those who want to walk out for shops and entertainment and also there are plenty of different walks you can do from easy flat walks to harder hill climbs.
there were choices of greek or english dishes so something to suit the less adventureous.
the staff very helpful. rooms very spacious."

"My husband and i have just returned for the Alkion hotel in Sidari. We were there for 2 weeks on a half board basis. The hotel was very clean, maid came into room daily to change sheets/towels & mop floor. The food was fine, you got a continental breakfast and if you wanted to you could pay 2 euros to get an english breakfast. Evening meals were lovely there was always 4 choices of starters and 4 mains to choose from. Desserts were plentiful too. It was waiter service not like some half board where it is usually "all you can eat" however we found it to be really nice.
The staff were very helpful and freindly. Sidari itself is good if you just want to chill out with not too much partying!!!! Think families would enjoy this but if your up for a mad one stick to kavos."

Worst Hotel In Corfu and Possibly The World!!!!
"Well where to start if you are reading this review and have booked to stay at the Alkion Sidari get on the phone to your holiday company and arrange to stay somewhere else now!
Myself and my partner are quite widely travelled and are both 24yrs old. Baering this in mind (i.e. we are quite young and up for a laugh and a bit of a party) this was undoubtedly the worst accomodation we have ever stayed in.
Firstly the rooms: quite spacious and adequate for their purpose but dont expect luxury basically just a room with a bed and a power shower from the 1970's which flooded the bathroom and leaked everywhere (not just ours was like this it was a common problem throughout the hotel as we found from speaking to other guests). Politely asked for a fix 5 or 6 times throughout our two weeks but apparently it wasnt broken!!
The Food - Breakfast was a choice between fruit cocktail (tinned), the smallest bowl of cheap cornflakes you had ever seen or a spoon full of yoghurt. This is literally no exaggeration and quite often went to the supermarket to buy ourselves something to tide us over till lunchtime. We were half board so we normally bought our lunch from the poolside bar which was exceptional it just seemed strange that if you bought lunch you got a great meal but if you were half board forget it. Then onto dinner the first night we arrived there were a choice of four meals Beef, Lamb, Chicken or Swordfish. Myself and my partner both opted for swordfish and when our meals arrived we were astounded the fish itself was beautiful but it was ruined by TINNED VEG and not nice tinned veg (if there is such a thing) watery flavourless mushy carrots and peas. Along with this was a massive dollop of SMASH absoloubtely foul! This continued for two weeks and surprisingly there was no more fish for the rest of our 13 nights just fatty gristle filled lamb, pink ckicken legs and hard burnt beef all accompanied with yes youve guessed it tinned veg. Ok so this would not be so bad if one night some guests came and payed for dinner and sat at the table next to us. When there meals arrived they were presented with beautiful steamed florets or real (not tinned) brocollli, salmon steaks with hollandaise sauce and roast potatoes.
The pool - nice clean pool with plenty of sunbeds. Which was a good job because sidari beach is awful. There is a river which runs through sidari which has a foul stench and the water is thich greeny black gunge. This river flows directly into the sea right in the centre of the beach washing up foamy sludge onto the sand. we spent one day on the beach and apart from the smell saw three condoms washed up along with rubbish and a fair amount of human excrement. Needless to say we didnt really fancy swimming there again.
Sidari - now onto the place itself its basically one long road with bars and nightclubs and more bars and nightclubs oh and did i mention bars and nightclubs. Now i like going for a drink and clubbing as much as any 20 something but Sidari is just too much. Touts are everywhere as well as blind drunk idiots and hundreds of slappers. Ideal if u want to drink all night and sleep all day but its not for me and definately not for famiies.
We did have some great days ourt horseriding through olive groves, a boat trip to some little coves and scuba diving. But all of these things took place outside of Sidari!
Finally please if you are reading this and thinking oh well only one bad review out of a generally good bunch then please beleive me the Alkyon Hotel and Sidari are this bad and worse. The overall buch of people that saty at the alkyion are pretty rough (i.e. chavs). Do all you can to avoid it at all costs. Corfu is abeatiful place but you want to be as far away from Sidari as possible i even preffered Kavos and thats saying alot."

"If you like clean hotels, good food and friendly and helpful staff then this is the place for you.
The hotel was spotless and any time of the day you would find the cleaners in action somewhere in the hotel.
The food was great, wonderful choice of Greek or English meals and plenty of it.Anyone who complains about the food here will complain about the food anywhere they go.
The staff were fantastic.Nothing was too much trouble and so friendly it was like being part of one big family.
Always something to do in the evenings, from quiz nights and bingo to Greek dancing by the the bar staff. The female guests particularly enjoyed that bit.The one bit to avoid is Dino singing at the karaoke, not the best voice on the island, but great fun.
All in all a great holiday and would have no hesitation in going back again."

The best hotel ever!!
"I think that this hotel was the best ive ever been to!! anything you want you get!! and the comment about the food is rubbish... i thought the food was good and if you didn't like the food they had on the menu that day you could always ask for something different anyway!! I think the waiters are really nice and you would get on with everyone of them...Spiro's x4, alex x2, mario, thomas and Christos!! and the other staff are nice aswell, andrea and the owners, maria and dimitrie!! they are really one big family and they are that welcoming to their hotel that they make you feel like part of the family it's fantastic!!"

"We had read alot of decent reviews for the Alkion Hotel in Sidari and were quite looking forward to it!
First of all the resort - pretty rubbish it our opinion. There are a lot better resorts south. One main strip now filled with nightclubs and each night you need to be prepared for the touts trying to get you in there drinking holes! (At least they're better that timeshare touts!).
The Alkion Hotel - very clean, room quite spacious, very large balcony - we were on the third floor - a new part of the hotel, apparently the other two floors are in need of refurbishment..
The hotel was serviced each day (at about 9.30am) so if you fancy a lay in following a hard night out then forget it.
The meals are without doubt the worst we have ever had at hotels in our lifetime. Served on T-Plates. We were booked in half board and had 2 evening meals and 1 breakfast meal only. An idea of the evening meal was 2 slices of premoulded beef, a scoop of mashed potato (we think it was actually SMASH) and a spoonful of tinned mixed veg.
I wouldnt spent my good money on the Lkion again and would avoid Sidari in the future.
Good luck to anyone who goes there in the future!"

Can't make toast
"Having read some of the bad reviews, both before we went and today, I have to say that their only real fault is a complete inability to make toast. They did not serve me a single evening meal that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. The staff are very hard working and even coped with a power cut that lasted until 1 pm on one day and one hell of a thunderstorm on another.Although we didn't use the pool I can't agree with any of the negative comments about it.
If you expect 5 star treatment and facilities then by all means pay four times as much and go elsewhere. "
