"Our stay at the hotel was very disappointing! The hotel is dirty and all amenities are old. The hotel needs a refurb urgently! No running water is a norm at this hotel."

The place to make friends

"We returned from the Karina studios in September 2009 having spent 2 weeks there. The owners and staff at this hotel were extremely helpful, attentive and friendly. Accommodation was very very basic but sufficed providing you didn't cook often. This was more then compensated for by the fabulous view from the balcony. We were fortunate in asmuch we saw dolphins out at sea. Binoculars we found a must as it is quite a busy "shipping lane" and there was always lots of liners and fishing boats to watch. The day trip to Parga was great as was the tour round the island.
Benitses was a small town pleasant enough but beaches locally very shingley. Our thanks to all the friends we made
whilst we were there in particular Janet and John from Canvey Island and Linda and Ted from Stevenage- they certainly made this a special holiday. Initially the holiday was reasonable but was made more expensive by the exchange rate of the euro."

"i returned from karina on the 23rd sept , i would like to thank gwen and graham for there company also ted and linda and dave and pat. we had a 2nd floor room with the best view i have ever had from a hotel room, kitchen was a challenge but everything else was fine , staff very helpful, food good, but try Maxims in moraitiki the best resaurant we found, we had a car for 10days so saw most of the island the west coast is beautiful lovely sandy beaches. beware of patio door handle, sharp on the underside, my husband needed 4 stitches in a cut, i would like to return to karina in the future, very enjoyable holidays for £185 each for 2 weeks what a bargain!"

"I had a great time here - it was just myself and my teenage daughter. If you plan to go here for clubbing/pulling then it is NOT for you!!! The temperature was glorious the whole week we were there - saw a thunder storm first thing, but it was gone by 10am. Be careful if you are on a budget, because the accomodation is described as 'self catering', but there is a cooking ring, kettle and fridge - it is not possible to actually cook a meal, and the nearest supermarkets are a good 10 minutes away (which is quite a walk in sweltering heat). You also need to take your own toilet roll. The accommodation is very basic (eg, hand-held shower), but it is clean. Also beware if you are taking children, as there are NO pavements, so you have to walk against the traffic (greek driving skills leave alot to be desired). It gets dark around 8pm, so take a torch with you if you go out at night. The owner, Spiros was very friendly and helpful. Buy your bus tickets from behind the bar - they are much cheaper than on the bus. The beach is directly opposite the apartments - but it is rocky rather than sandy, the pool however is glorious and clean. I met lots of guests there, and we became our own little friendly community - sharing tips and looking out for one another. The rep is a personal friend of the hotel owner, so you are better ringing the olympic emergency number if you need anything dealt with. The trips etc are much cheaper to book in Benitsies town rather than the rep - as is car hire. The only place to eat is BIG BITE on the main road into Benitsies - value for money, nice staff, and you can eat your meal on the beach. My friend only had english money left on her last night, and the owner gave her a meal for free as he felt sorry for her - such a nice man. Try and use the greek language as much as you can - the locals really appreciate it. Beware if you get a night flight - you have to vacate your apartment by 12pm - you can pay 20 euros to keep it on - but onlt till 8pm - which is no good to you if you were not being picked up until 3am like I was - and be prepared to queue outside the airport for a couple of hours to check in because it is so small. Overall I got what I went for - sunshine n swimming - oh, and an added bonus was being surrounded by trees growing lemons, limes, black grapes and nectarines."

"We returned from Corfu last week staying at the Karina hotel. Over all we had a very good time, mostly because we wanted to and also because we didn't pay full brochure price for this holiday (which would have been over the top.)

Location - 10 mins from rather neglected village of benitses, a sad looking spot at this time of the year and i suspect not much better at others. No offence intended if you like Benitses - I'll admit that by the end I had grown fond of it but you still wonder at the rubbish and delapidation on the main street.

Top tip - Go to town after dark and walk to the northern end, rather nice lots of cool shady areas and a playground for teh kids. have an ice cream (about £2.50)(but very nice!) and maybe have a meal in one of the many restaurants that line the memorial gardens. This is nice.

Good eats - on my last day I had a mixed grill at Big Bite and wished I'd found it sooner. A really big plate of meat for 7 euros very satisfying after the usual food you get on hols (when I'm cooking) The Big Bite is on the main street, one side to the road but the other is right on the beach - really lovely, tranquil and strongly reccommended.

Good luxury - If you tire of Tattoo'ed essex boys (aye aye!) around the karina pool walk through town and past the Shell Museum, keep walking around 300 yards and you will see the entrance to Costa Blue - A very nicely set 5 star complex with a pool from heaven, really clean, low chlorine, several showers, very good food (try the Tzatsiki)and free ti use provided that you buy food or drinks. Be warned - drinks are extortionate. £3.50 for a small bottle of Sprite. Take your own but be discreet and be fair too.

People criticise the beach but do you know what? It's 10 yeards from teh hotel and the fact that it's shingle just means that dirty sand doesn't get everywhere and teh water is all the cleaner for it too. it's peacefull, secluded and very scenic. take some old sandalls and sit on a rock with a book, it's great.

Hotel - I think overall it's a lot better than i expected. nicely set out, has a pool, local home cooked food is good and not too dear, drinks okay, service mostly excellent given slight cultural differences in customer service and remembering the price you paid. No real complaints at all, even the tiny kitchen was good enough to help us save a fortune on buying meals out. Pasta in teh shops is cheap, sauces are dear, learn to make a basic spaggetti sauce before you go and you'll be okay, also take any sweets you like as they are a fortune to buy over there (£1 for a kitkat)

Wildlife - you've got to expect it, it's very rural and very pretty but things live there! We saw rats, huge grasshoppers, ants, moths and millions of wasps so don't go if you don't like them. seemples. Do take plenty of anti mozzie stuff and use it well. Candles are good and a fraction of the price in England.

Shopping - If you can afford it hire a car at the start for a day or two, go to Corfu town and go to teh supermarkets, save a fortune on everything. The small supermarkets in Benitses either have to pay very high prices or they are greedy and know they have you. Sorry if you don't like that but it could be the simple truth, they have a short season.
Corfu Town is lovely, take your camera and get the multi-tickets for museums there - stunning collections.

I would go again, might wait till teh nipper is a bit older all things considered but it was a good holiday, the hotel is very good for the money (pay no more than £300 for a fortnight)and the people there are very welcoming. Better to be away from benitses in my opinion - just close enough.

Cheers and good luck!

Nige"

For people who only swim in the pool.

"The Karina is situated 20 minutes from the main resort.
If you like lots of people from Essex and tatoos who only sit at the pool and drink Mythos beer til the early hours then go there.

The food is good and affordable, Spiros,Pedros and his family will make your stay pleasant.

But venture to the sea, isn't that's why you go on holday?
Pack rubber shoes as the beaches nearby are pebbly and mosquito pluh-ins. "

"Have just got back from our two week holiday in the Karina. Had a wonderful time. Spiros, Pedros etc are so nice and welcoming - they cannot do enough for you - not to mention Steve and his lovely wife. Fell in love with their little dog Staffis, who I wanted to put in my suitcase. Cannot recommend this hotel enough for sheer warmth and friendliness. Only prob was the walk into town with our two small children - no paths unfortunately. Met some lovely people who were all on a budget and just wanted to have fun."

"Wow, had a great time. Spiros, Pedros, Anna and Chris all helped make this holiday a lovely experience. They were like a second family!
The hotels facilities were excellent and the Greek nights were fantastic with Pedros and Chris singing with traditional dancers and flames!!!
I would highly recommend the food in the hotel, which is cooked by Pedros' wife, who was a real character.
The views out to sea are beautiful.

And the best bits.,. the 2 lovely dogs baby and Musty ( i think thats how you say it!?)

You must go... x

"Have just come back from Karina Studios, Benitses and would just like to let you all know that the staff there are fantastic. They make you feel so welcome and Pedros and his family make it very special. Pedros or "Yassoo" as we called him was excellent to our daughter who was the only child in the hotel at the time. He treated her like a princess, even giving her a lovely big teddy "dressed in a Greek jumper", from all of his family, when we left on Saturday morning. Spiros the owner was lovely too.

The food there was brilliant, Pedros' wife is a brilliant cook. Great portions, especially the spaghetti bolognaise. The rooms are basic but clean, and the view was just fantastic. Lovely to sit out on the balcony and admire the seaview.

Greek night on Wednesday was brilliant, not to be missed.

Everybody was so friendly and we wish we could have stayed longer. Will be next year, for two weeks!!

The only downside was the weather, we had 2/3 days of rain, but luckily on Friday it was a lovely hot day and so we topped the tan up before we left that night!!! One week wasn't enough!!!!!

Hopefully see you next year, Spiros and Pedros.
