"my inlaws have been going to the matoula apartment for the last 4 year, not just once a year but twice, they have gone on at us so much about what a great holiday it is and how friendly the staff are, and how nothing is a problem to any of the staff.
SO we desided to try it our selfs, and they were not wrong it is a fantastic place, it good for kids familys and couple, and even the oldy. The bar man (spiros) is an absolut diamond to us,he was so welcomeing to everyone, we had the pleasure of meeting matoula the lady who owns the apartments and she was lovely. the apartment are everything you need and want when your on holiday, the hole place is fantastic we liked it so much we are going back on 11/06/07 for 14 night and we have started our holiday count down already, this time there is 8 of us going as my mum s comeing along.
IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A FAB HOLIDAY THERE IS ONLY ONE PLACE (THE MATOULA APARTMENTS & STUDIOS) you wont regret going."

"Stayed at Matoula last two weeks sept. Apartments were excellent. Cleaned every day, Everything in the kitchen area that you could need to prepare snacks including kettle but no toaster.Beds and towels changed twice a week. Very good bathroom and balcony.
Pool area again very nice and clean. Plenty of sun beds. The bar we did have a problem with. Spiros wasnt happy unless he was moaning about guests drinking in their apartments instead of the bar (I thought you went on holiday to do as you pleased). The bar area had plastic chairs with the tv always blaring out. The place wasnt that busy so was it really necessary to deafen the few people that actually drank in there. Plus the beer wasnt really cold. We did make an effort the first week to have few drinks in there each night but gave up and went straight into the town.
Short walk to beach or into the town. We ended up most nights in the Orpheus bar which is a very friendly place. Meals and snacks not bad either. Had lovely meal at the Lemon Tree and the Chinese was excellent. Also Alex's bar on the beach if you want to watch the sunset, serve good food.
We werent to keen on the resort as a whole, have been to greek islands that are a lot more "greek" than Corfu.
Beware the Mosquitos they are particularly nasty little sods. Make sure you use lots of repellent especially at dusk and after the rain
We used lots but they find the bits you miss!
We enjoyed the holiday but dont think we will go back."

matoula apartments were fab!!
"me and my fiance have just arrived back from staying in the Matoula Apartments and Studios and found them to be fab! we stayed at the apartments from 29th september till 6th october,we had a studio which was very clean and spacious. it had everything you needed. showers are a little weird as they have no shower curtain so the water goes everywhere, luckly there is a drain on the floor so the water can go down that!
everyone during our stay at the Matoula Apartments was very friendly, nothing was a hassle. all wanted to make you feel welcome. i find personally the greek people in general are very friendly and do what they can to make your holiday even better.
The pool area was lovely, not to crowded. alot of free sunbeds. pool area is very clean. the bar area is great, lovely cheap food. and spiros is a good guy! and i can see why he has so many fans! but overall i find matoula apartments and studios to be clean, friendly and is in good location.
The area of Acharavi is lovely in general but i little to quiet. 2 minutes to your left of Matoula Apartments is the local beach, its a pebble beach but must say was lovely. to the right hand side of the apartments 5 minutes walk takes you to the strip area, lots of bars, restuarants etc.. nice little area. some great eating places and the locals really make you feel welcome!
i would advise people to hire a car, you can do this from Matoula Apartments. its a great way to see the BEAUTIFUL island. this is the first time me and my partner have done this and i will for sure be doing it again. roda is about 15 minutes away and is little bit more lively. but a must see is Sidari its the new Kavos people are saying. lots of great bars there, most playing films that are in our cinemas in uk. lots more shops and also lovely beach there aswell, i'd advise anyone to see sidari.
Last but not least the bugs.... where do i start. this is the only one thing that spoiled my holiday. i took boots own brand repellent and i didnt get bit onces from the dreaded mozzies but they were out in force. they didnt bother me one bit, but the wasps were another story. the were soooo annoying and you could escape them. i tried to sit out by the pool and they were all around me, so didnt bother. but i warn you about them!!
to sum up this holiday at Matoula i'd say its clean, basic, friendly.... what more do you want???"

"We stayed at the Matoula apartments last week and had a lovely time.
The apartments are basic but clean. The pool is nice and the location is really the great thing about it, just a few mins to the beach and a few mins to the bars/restaurants.
We found the beach wasnt that clean but it didnt bother us as it was quite peaceful. The strip of restaurants and bars was excellent, we didnt have a bad meal while we were there and it was very reasonably priced too.
Our favourite restaurants were the pumphouse and the italian restaurant. The chinese restaurant never looked very busy but we tried it and the food was excellent.
During our week stay we did 2 trips which we booked with castaway travel who have a shop along the main street. we would not recommend going with them as we felt they misled us about the trips. we booked to go on the trip to paleokastritsa and were told we would be there for around 4 hours, in reality we were stuck on a coach for 2 hours there and then back doing lots of pick ups, and we actually went round in circles. on the way there we were dropped off at a distillery place for half an hour while the coach went and took other people to the harbour as they were going on a boat trip, we had not been told this would happen. When we finally got to paleo we did not have much time which was a shame because it was beautiful, we would defintely recommend going there but hire your own car!
The second trip was a boat trip to corfu town, this was worthwile doing but again we wouldnt book this through castaway as we just didnt feel they provided a very good service. the captain in particular was very moody!
As a previous review mentioned, there are lots of mosquitos so definitely take cream / plug in things with you as they did seem to help.
Overall this is a lovely place for a holiday, the apartments are in such a great location and acharavi has a lot to offer. We also found the people extremely friendly."

"Just arrived back from the matoula apartments today. We found the apartments to be in a great location and the apartments themselves were in very good condition and kept extremely clean by the maids who come every day except a sunday.
A few problems were that the maids never left enough toilet roll, so please be aware you should either take your own or be prepared to buy some whilst your out there!
The mosquitos were horedendous, we went to the beach on the first night and a member of my family was bitten 70 times in one night, to make things worse she was allergic to the bites but the Dr that comes to visit the apartments at 11.30am everyday was very good and this was quickly remided. Word of warning stay away from the beach at night if you want to stay away from most mosquitos and the locals told us to rub lemon on our skin which seemed to deter most mosquitos.
From the reviews we had read about spiros and the poolside bar we were expecting a lively bar at the night time. How wrong we were! Spiros stayed behind the bar and wasnt lively what so ever! the entertainment - bingo, pool tournaments and quizzes were done by the holiday makers well children on many occasions
The drink available at the poolside bar was awful, even though on the menu the drinks are stated as coca-cola it was the extremely cheap cola. Not paletable at all, to make matters worse no soft drinks - fizzy drinks, orange juice etc are kept in the fridge. The white wine is ok, but again its only just cold. The mythos lager and the spirts are very nice, its just the mixers that are the problems.
The tassos bar is run by Jon and Romeo and that is across the road (down a lane) and this bar is much better than the one at the hotel, your not sat on plastic patio chairs and Jon whos english does karoke, quizs and bingo, unlike the matoula bar its not over run with children and the drinks are of a much better standard. even though you will find in most bars they will open a 2 litre bottle of fizzy drink and use that throughout the day, which i personally found to be flat. Luckily some restaurants use glass bottles of coca cola and pepsi which is nice and cold!
In the two weeks we were in greece i found that only 3 bars/restaurants had locks on the toilet door, so do not expect any privacy!!!!
Pool at the apartments was lovely, and there were always beds available, you can buy a cushion for the bed which will cost you 3 euros for the day but its well worth it.
The beach is pebble and sand and not particularly clean - lots of cigarette ends, but if you walk to the right the beach gets a little bit better!!! Beware of jellyfish in the sea as a member of a party was stung and id suggest buying sea shoes as it can be quite pebbley!
The airport - well what chaos, ive never been to an airport like it, you have to queue on the street as they scan your suitcases in front of you! dont expect any help lifting your cases onto the scanning machine the man just stands there and says next! You then have to check in and the first choice rep was useless! If you fly on a monday expect it to be very busy - i.e. know where to sit because monday is there busiest day. The actual first choice flight was brilliant and its one of the best airlines ive flown with!
The main strip in acharavi was very nice, lovely cocktail bars - versus, central and yamas bar and id definately recommend the pumphouse restaurant, greek taverna and odessey restaurants!!!!
All in all, acharavi is a very nice place, and the apartments we also lovely, just a shame about the lack of good entertainment at the apartments and suitable drinks at the bar and the mosquitos!"

"We stayed at the Matoula a couple of years ago and had a fantastic two weeks. The rooms were very clean, the pool was fabulous and Spiros (at the bar) made our holiday! The apartments are right between the town and the beach, turn left to the beach (2mins) and turn right (2mins) for the town. Each night there were informal trivia quizzes, holiday bingo etc and once a week a fantastic Greek BBQ. The Matoula is great for families - our four kids had a fantastic time and met lots of friends. I would definitely recommend these apartments to anyone travelling to Corfu. Acharavi is a lovely resort with plenty of taverna's both in the town and along the beach. There's also a good little waterpark just a short walk out of the town."

"we have stayed at matoula for the last 3 years, excellent apts and ideal for beach and towm centre, would recommend it to any body who has never been to corfu before, 10/10.. clean, friendly and excellent staff. we are going again in september for the 4th time."

"I stayed in Matoula apartments 4 years ago, I had my daughter, son, and twin grandchildren with me. It was friendly, clean, and perfect for all shops, restraunts, and walking up to the town. It is only a short walk to the beach as well. I am going back this year for my 50th birthday. I loved it and the people are so nice. I love Greece anyway, but although I would like to see another Island I feel I need to go back to Corfu. Also we went on a boat trip all around the Island and that was gorgeous. And a coach trip which was breathtaking. The veiws you get from the top of the hills is just something else."

Best in Acharavi!!!
"Me and my partner stayed at the Matoula Apts for a fortnight in June and can't praise it highly enough. As we booked our holiday as a late deal we didn't have high expectations of the complex but how wrong we were.
Every aspect of the accomodation was spot on. Not only was the complex in an ideal location (two minutes walk from both beach and town centre) but it was also kept to an extremely high standard and both grounds & rooms were spotless. A special mention has to go to the bar manager Spiros who makes every effort to ensure your stay is enjoyable. We had planned on finding a nice local bar to drink in but most nights found ourselves back at Matoula's bar due to Spiros' hospitality (and cheap drinks!).
Despite some dodgy weather this was one of the best holidays we've had and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Matoula Apts."

Good experience at Matoula
"We stayed for 2 weeks in the last two weeks of September 2011. We liked the studio apartment. Fairly good views towards the sea from our apartment and looking towards the mountains of Albania in the distance. The room was cleaned evryday aprt from Sundays. The whole complex was spotless and the receptionist Dimitra was really cheerful and very helpful. They also changed travellers cheques at a better rate than the bank in Acharavi town, which also avoided the queue in the bank. The only slight criticism we had of the room was the lack of mosquito nets on the balcony doors so you could only rely on the shutters to keep the room circulating air, and also there are no ceiling fans which meant that when it was hot at night it was quite airless. We used the air conditioning for a few nights so we could close the doors and keep cool and keep out the hungry mozzies. This costs 5 euros a night which would add up over the fortnight. However using a plug-in mosquito repellent plus burning a mozzie coil outside the doors did the trick, although the ceiling fan was missed. The pool is very nice and a good size and in September was a lovely temperature. The pool is well maintained and the pool side bar offers everthing you need. There is a really good value full English breakfast which we had twice and is excellent value. Orange juice, coffee, double eggs double sausage double bacon mushrooms beans plus 2 toast with jam. All for 4 Euros. Yum! Nikos the Barman was really good value. Always cheerful. Acharavi itself is a reasonable size town offering good choice of supermarkets, loads of Tavernas and a few coffe shops and bars. Pleanty of choice of car and bike hire. We used Greg's near the roundabout and that was pretty good value. Good little cars and very friendly. The town is at a nice part of the island with Kassiopi a few kilometers away. The local beach is quite nice albeit a bit stoney unless you walk to the right for about 20 minute where it becomes sandier. The complex is convenient for the beach (2 min walk) and the shops (3 mins). Overall we had a great stay at Matoula and I recommend it. I would give it 8 out of ten. Nothing negative to say. You will enjoy it here. Acharavi isn't the most lively place which suited us fine, but if you're looking for clubs and a wild time its probably not for you. We booked through First choice and we compared notes with other guests on prices we paid. We got the worse deal for some reason but it seems that going through a travel agent may cost less. Excursions for boat trips were booked through Cosmic excursions in Kassiopi and were much cheaper than the prices if we'd booked through our holiday operator. Take the evening sunset cruise and the lazy day cruises. Great fun and I recommend these."

"Just returned from a 2 week holiday to the Matoula Apartments in Acharavi. Agree with all the other reviews good points, so I don't feel its necessary to repeat them all. Not much evening entertainment in the hotel, or Axcharavi. However a 25 minute walk down the beach takes you to Roda, where there is a bit more entertainment. Sidari is about 20 minutes drive away, 17euro's in a taxi, lots of nightlife there.
Food at the pool bar is absoloutely amazing, full English for only 4 euro's!
An amazing restaurant is Woody's, amazing staff and outstanding food - try the milkshakes! 2 good bar's are "Harry's Bar" and "Adonis Cafe".
Nikkos, the night time barman, is very funny - good at getting laughs and doing card ticks! Spiros, the day time barman, is equally lovely - but has a slightly more buisnessy head on, but he's still a really great person.
Rooms are basic, but spotlessly clean.
Didn't need a/c, because my family are good at dealing with the heat.
Would love to reutrn.⺠â¥
Nikkos if you read this - "CHIP SHOP?! Not chip shop, cheap shop!"."
