Liked it eventually
"On our arrival at this hotel, we were taken to a nearby street and booked into an unfinished apartment block, which turned out to be a 3 star hotel!
The La Vita. After protests, we did not get into the Grand until 24 hours later. There appears to be an admitted policy of overbooking at the moment, but I hope it has been rectified, but I don't think it had on our departure as I had still heard words of protest.
Apart from that, which was enough, the hotel is very nice and the rooms are large and very clean. Hotel is on the front and central.
The buffet meals are quite good, but the layout is in need of some reorganising, all follow on from each other. Short of some nice meat dishes, eg. lamb, beef etc.
Entertainment virtually non existent, and poor for a 5 star hotel.
Did have a couple of staff who were quite rude.
A compliment to the reception manager on days who I think was in a position he could not help, and did send out a bowl of fruit and a bottle of wine to us and the others affected."

"The hotel is in a superb location with a beach just across the road and the Mediterranean Sea beach (less windy) only 5 minutes walk away. Bar Street is just around the corner and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. The Old Town and Harbour are a 10-15 minute walk away.
The Grand probably doesnât quite live up to its claimed 5 stars but is a comfortable 4. Some areas looked slightly the worse for wear but the rooms and public areas were very clean. The air conditioning in the rooms works quietly and efficiently.
The junior staff (bars, restaurant, maids, etc) were very friendly but the receptionists slightly less so - perhaps because their English was not particularly good.
The 2 outdoor pools are filled with seawater and in the second half of June were distinctly chilly as a result. This was compounded by the constant wind in Rhodes Town, which we wished weâd known about before we went. At the start of the holiday a light jacket was needed in the evenings if sitting out of doors.
Drinks and snacks in the hotel were very expensive - about 75% more than in the surrounding bars. The hotel puts on a Greek Night and another evening of entertainment each week and these were the only occasions when the bar was busy. Despite this service at both the main bar and the pool bar/restaurant could be very slow.
Nevertheless, we had a very enjoyable holiday and the Grand and would happily return there."

A perfect holiday
"We have just returned from a week at The Grand Hotel, and have had a wonderful time. We can't complain about anything. The staff were friendly and helpful, the place was very clean and the decor was very good. The food was really good, especially the Chinese Restaurant. The only problem was we didn't stay longer."

Enjoyed the Grand Hotel
"My family and I just returned from a four day trip to Rhodes where we stayed at the Grand Hotel. The hotel lobby was very impressive and the staff seemed very attentive. The rooms were redecorated in 1995 so of course there's your normal wear and tear of ten years. I have to say that after reading the reviews on trip advisor I almost changed the hotel because it just didn't seem to get good reviews. I'm glad we decided to stay at the hotel because it was quite nice. We had Half Board, which is breakfast and dinner included. I do think they could arrange the buffet a little better so that you're not standing in line for 10 minutes trying to get what you would like. We found the drinks were expensive as I had read in the past reviews. I think next time it would be breakfast only. There are so many quaint place to have dinner at reasonable prices as well as drinks for reasonable prices."

"Stayed at the Grand in October 2004.
Staff were some of the friendliest we have ever come across , always willing to stop and have a chat.
rooms clean with linen changed nearly every day.
Resaurants great with the themed ones, chinese and italian great , but be sure to book them 2 days ahead.
Old town 10 minutes walk but well worth it. take a trip to Lindos but cheaper booking it at the harbour.
take a taxi transfer, cheap and saves the queuing.
WILL DEFINETLY RETURN"

Get a Grip - and stop moaning
"What is wrong with British people? Doesn't matter where they go - they are never satisfied. By the way, I am British.
Spent two weeks at the Grand at the begining of October 2004. I had read some of the comments on this page before we got there, so was not expecting too much.
However we were pleasantly surprised.
Location is fantastic - make sure you book a sea view. Spent hours on balcony admiring the views towards Turkey, passing cruise ships etc.
Grounds are immaculate and clean. Only used front pool. The only complaint here being the sun dissap[peared from tthe pool side half way through the afternoon. Bad planning to say the least. The hotel is ideally located for the old town, shops , bars. Plenty of reasonably priced bars just round the corner.
Our room was large and spacious, and very clean. The maid service was efficient and profesional.
Food - buffet choice was very good. Plenty of choice and of very good quality.
Staff - Unlike others, we fgound the staff to be very helpful and respectful. Making an effort to be polite and friendly, ensures a similar response back. I heard some English people, not only be rude to the resturant staff, but talk to them as if they were their personal servants - and they then complain that staff were unfriendly.
I would agree that its not to be compared to 5 star hotels in this country, but neverthe less, we had a very relaxed and enjoyable holiday at this hotel.
We did not book last minute, and probably paid near enough brochure price. I would definately go back if I was to go to Rhodes again, and would definately reccomend to others.
Good hotel, good food, clean, good location, nice staff."

Don't expect 5*
"My husband and I have just returned from a two week stay at the Grand. The best thing I can say about the hotel is it's location, which is convenient to the centre of Rhodes town. The entrance lobby looks inviting enough, but our room was in need of renovating. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, carpet stained and the furniture battered. Mealtimes were chaotic - too many guests for too few tables. The food was uninspired and often only lukewarm. We each suffered an upset stomach. Smoking is permitted in the dining rooms - in close proximity to the buffet area. The pool areas are clean, but beware. Marble floors look nice but are dangerous and we witnessed several accidents. Drink prices are prohibitively expensive. If you are seeking 5* luxury, this is not the hotel for you."

Beware 5* rating
"Just returned from GH this morning after 1 week half board late deal. in general, this hotel certainly has a grand appearance both outside and on entering. The rooms were both clean and comfortable We found the food to be of good quality and plentiful with the chinese restaurant to be above average On a downside we found it strange to have to buy tea after our main evening meal. Also would have liked cheaper bar prices and perhaps some kind of regular entertainment. this hotel looks like it has been 5* but i think this was a long time ago. A more realistic rating would be no more than 3*
We would go back but it would be based on a bargain price rather on hotel advertised rates."

CLEAN COMFORTABLE VERY RUDE STAFF
"We had a late half board deal which we booked the week before going. So did everyone else we spoke to at the hotel.
Salt water pools not sea water but a bucket of salt is emptied into the pool each morning. None of the children at the hotel seemed to like this pool and all used the indoor fresh water pool.
3 restaurants - chinese excellent (take your own black bean source as never available, leaving half the menu options only) - italian terrible and rude argumentative staff - main buffet ok but 3 star rate only.
Watch out for the hotel owner's family who expect preferential treatment over paying customers, particularly in the restaurants.
Fantastic location for Rhodes old town and harbour. All in all a good holiday, but would not have enjoyed it if we had paid the full rate. Our half price late booking was all that it was worth."

"LOCATION:- The Mitsis Grand is located just across a busy main road from the beach, and is close to all the bars and shops. The harbour and old town are also within easy walking distance.
RESTAURANT:- The restaurant was more like a school canteen, you had to queue to get a table, then queue to get the food. The menu was very repetitive and lacked imagination. The price of drinks in the bar and restaurant was extreme, 3 Euros for a small bottle of coke, the same bottle at local super market was 0.8 Euros or 1.9 Euros in a local bar.
SUN BEDS:- It was hotel policy that you could not reserve the sun beds, but this was never enforced, and most mornings they were all gone by 07:30. We estimated that the were 180 sun beds, so thatâs less than one per room.
STAFF:- Overall the staff were very helpfully and friendly, the exception to this were the girls on the hotel reception desk. They could do with some customer care training, we got the impression they were always too busy and it was almost too much trouble for them to deal with any requests we made.
ROOMS:- The rooms were very spacious and clean, with lots of cupboard/drawer space there was also a reasonably priced mini bar â 1.5 euros for a small coke.
OVERALL:- The Mitsis Grand would be ok as a three star, but no way does it warrant a five star rating. The only thing Grand about the hotel is its size! Itâs a very large hotel in relatively small grounds. We would be very reluctant to return to this hotel unless it prices were reduced to that of similar 3 star hotels. We would not recommend this hotel.

Grand for Quality
"Frist class hotel, with excellent food - three restaurants, Chinese being the best!
The only thing that spoilt the holiday was the actual resort, the beach was very dirty with litter (and condoms!) and the beds soiled. The whole resort needs cleaning up."

"Rhodes town is a fantastic place for all types of holiday experiences.
My partner and I went with my 15 year old daughter and her friend and there was plenty to do for all of us. Rhodes town has a mix of beaches, quiet bars, a street full of young lively bars and lots of shopping in either the new town or the old town. There is also a marina for lots of boat trips and diving.
if you hire a car for a few days there are some other fantastic coves to visit where the snorkelling is terrific, especially Anthony Quinn bay.
The grand hotel is Greek 5* say 4* British, nice ,clean, 3 pools, good food with the added bonus of a separate Chinese and Italian restaurant that you book for, get treated well but at no extra cost. Definitely not a cheap karaoke type hotel but everything you need is only a short walk away"
