"Have just returned from Pefkos (Thursday Sept 19) from a week's stay at this so called hotel -studio complex. We had two rooms, one for my wife and I the other for our daughter, parnter and granddaughter.
This place should not be allowed to be in the holiday brochures - it is an absolute disgrace.
Self catering? Not an iceberg in hell's chance. Our room's so-called kitchinette was a tatty sink with no hot water two grubby hotplate rings and a fridge which the door kept coming off the hinge because the two odd screws trying to keep it in place were too small for the holes.
The 3ft square shower tray constantly overflowed, the shower curtain didnt cover the gap between the loo and the wall so the sink area got flooded and it was a health hazard there were so many moulds and indescribable things growing in it.
Oh, and the chipped sink with its dirty slimy plug was a health risk too. The cleaners werent contracted to clean on Sundays so the used loo roll in the tiniest of bins stagnated and smelled the room out for two days - not very nice in the lovely hot weather.
What else can go wrong you might ask? How about one of the two bedside lights not working because no-one put in a new bulb and one of the sockets in the room not working all the while.
The pool surround was past its sellby date - grubby greasy and tatty sunloungers rusting umbrella poles and tatty tops as well as two creaking tilting ladders into the pool which were not totally safe.
If you like mangy wild cats you'll love this place there were at least seven or eight of the damn things living in the grounds thanks to stupid residents fussing over and feeding them.
Our daughter's room was a carbon copy of ours though they looked over the back while we looked over the outside bar and the ensuing latenight ruckus.
This place has seen better days and should have a refit or close, at best it should not be offered for next season by any tour operators.
We spent a fortune dining out every day - thanfully Pefkos has a surfeit of excellent eateries and bars, the only slight redeeming factor was the family running the place were lovely, warm, welcoming and helpful sadly their establishment wasnt. Next time we go to Greece it will be to a proper hotel not the Hellenic Faulty Towers"

"This was a fantastic holiday! The hotel was lovely and clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. The pool and snack bar were great. There were six of us staying here, we had three rooms between us which were cleaned everyday except sundays. The breakfasts were very basic but ok. We would certainly go back again. Great value for money!"

"Just got back from a two week holiday, after reading the coments on here my boyfriend & I did try to move hotels before going away but after a while decided we'd give it a go as we'd not be in the hotel that much.
We got to the thalia & found or selfs on the bottom floor, there was not much of a veiw & for the first few days we coud not sit outside as there was a overflow dipping into our balcony. The sink & fridge was very close to the bed & the fridge did make some noise but not anoth to keep you awake all night. As most have siad the self catarining is useless so be prepered to eat out all holiday (There are some great places to eat & drink). The bathroom was quite small, especily the shower there was not much room to move as it was stuffed in a corner. we asked for a double bad & got to singles pushed together but its not the first time we've had that. It was very warm the two weeks we was there & had to get air conditioning at 40 euros a week, we noticed some people kept the doors open for a draft but we decided we did need the aircon. If you have a late night or early morning flight home your looking at a 12pm checkout time (we had to check out on saturday even though we left sunday morning) it cost us 20 euros to keep the room on & we had till 6pm to checkout.
The staff were friendly when we needed to speak to them & the room was kept clean. The pool was cold but refreshing from the heat, the area around the pool was clean too.
The quiz at the pool bar was fun (we won a bottle of wine which was nice ) the greek night looked fun too (we only watched the dancing)
The hotel was a good base & not a bad place to go to if you are not planing on being in the hotel that much so I'd not let the bad reviews put you off staying here.
If you are going to Pefkos have a look at the Eclipse Bar pool waterfall (you can pay to jump off the side if you like - the water is very cold mind) & you can get a map from there too. There is also Oasis snack & pool bar and Nostalgia resturant which is a nice place to eat at. You are told by the Rep that the buses are not recommended but we magaged to get to Rhodes town & back ok, the bus there was a little late but the bus back was dead on time & quite cheep too compered to the excursions.

"Do not go here this is the most unclean greek holiday in over 10 years. What is not shown in the brochure is the big iluminated "Disco Pool Bar Sign" The evening noise is OTT. We had to move rooms as it was too much to bear with a young family. The ground floor smells in the corridor. The pool has a one inch grime mark all round the edge with peoples names scratched in the muck. When do they clean the pool - not while we where there. The bar tender is Mr Grumpy unless you are spending all day and your Euros there. The room was small and basic fine but do we need a hole in the door so it will open past the sink. The balcony furniture is tired as is the building. Shame as location is great. On site supermarket very usefull. Overall a dirty tired Hotel which plays very loud music until 12.30pm!
This state of the Hotel forced us to what turned out to be the best beech in Greece and you must try Philosophia which overlooks the main beech. Also Flyers on the beech for lunch is great. Thalia no Pefkos yes. Watch the jelly fish in the sea as my daughter got stung but ok. Olympic Holidays need to update there picture and description!"

"I made the mistake of reading the negative comments placed on here by others - and i would say to anyone going to the Thalia please take no notice of them, because it is a fantastic place to stay. Yes it is a little tired in places but after all it is a 2 star so what do people expect. The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly and maybe if people took time to chat to them or bother to ask their names they would have had a better expierience!!! Pefkos far exceeded any expectations with many bars and restaurants with lots of delicious food - and happy hour actually lasts for 3 hours.
If staying at the Thalia please make sure you book a ticket for Greek night on Fridays as the leader of the dance troop is something you should not miss - I will return one day, and will recomend the Thalia to all my friends as well as all reading this xxxx chris"

We have just returned from a 2 week holi...
"We have just returned from a 2 week holiday staying at the Thalia. We were very apprehensive as we had read some really bad reviews on this accomodation.
However we should not have worried.
Yes it is very basic - but it was very clean with linen and towels being changed daily.
The self catering provision is extremely limited , so if you plan to spend your holiday cooking - this is not the place for you , and could possibly be a proplem if you have children. However if you are using your room just for a base, and somewhere to rest your head at the end of a long glourious day then you have no worries.
If you want 5 star accomodation - then pay for it!
All the staff were friendly and helpful - with a special mention of Magna who works as a receptionist and can lend her hand to most things - she even fixed our shower for us, before we returned to our room that day!!
The pool and bar area are very good. There is some entertainment in the form of a kareoke, quiz, and greek night - the later while worth doing, everybody has a great laugh and encouraged to learn some greek dancing!! The bar stays open well into the early hours of the morning - if required, but don't worry the music or any noise is kept under strict supervision.
The Thalia is very well situated, with very easy accsess to beaches, pubs and tavernas. Pefkos itself is a lovely place and i will definately be returning.
Buses run from Pefkos to various places - and you can get to Rhodes town for 5 euro each way - a lot cheaper than organized tours! Old Rhodes town is well worth a visit if you havn't done this before. Lindos is only a very short distance away and is also well worth a visit ( or more). There are some very trendy pubs and lovely places to eat on an evening.
Hope this review is helpful, and you enjoy your holiday as much as we did."

"We had previously read the reviews for this particular hotel and so went with poor expectations. However having stayed at many other greek islands we were not at all disappointed with the hotel.
We payed a budget price and felt we received value for money. The hotel was slightly tired but had a warm welcome from staff and a good atmosphere. Breakfast was simple but adequate, the pool area was lovely and we enjoyed the quiz and greek nights at the bar.
Overall we had a lovely holiday and feel that a lot of the hotel's bad reviews were unjustified. If you are planning a visit, have a lovely time. "

"having recently returned from my first holiday abroad, my boyfriend and i stayed at the thalia hotel witch is located central in the town, of course like many i was worried about the holiday, when arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a member of staff who was very plesant and could not do enough to help, the room was basic but clean and sheets and towels were changed often, this is such a lovely place to visit and i can not see why people are slating this hotel as the atmosphere is relaxed warm and friendly, i think peole are expecting a 5* hotel for such little money, its a warm country and the drains are bound to smell, the pool was clean and lovely and the view of the sea was fantastic, there is also a bar there that serves food and drinks at a reasonable price, the hotel holds theme nights and you are made to feel part of the Thalia family, i would certainly recommend this hotel and may return again next year... Love Terry & Katy xxx"

"My husband and myself holidayed at this so called Hotel this year as our 6th visit to Rhodes, which we love, but what a dump it was, the faults are too many to list, and i personally just want to forget this accomodation, don't be tempted to go there. We travelled with Olympic Holidays, flying with Monarch airlines, and i can't find a good word to say about either i am afraid, as far as i can see they are just money grabbing robbers, who wouldnt know honesty or value for money if it bit them on the bum. "I arrived at the Thalia full of concern as I had read a real mixture of reviews. My initial reaction was typical Greek self catering and that was about right.
Our room was quite basic but it was clean and adequately equipped. The apartments have a very pleasant pool area and a pool bar. The location is good. Close enough to the bars and restaurants but nothing right on top of you.
Pefkos itself is a lovely resort and the Thalia is well placed to enjoy what the resort has to offer. It is easy to get into Lindos for the evening and we spent a couple of great nights there.
It seems a shame that a couple of reviewers have opted to give this hotel one out of ten. I can only imagine that self catering in Greece wasn't for them. For a relaxing holiday and good base the Thalia did the job nicely for us.

"This was the second year me and my girlfriend visited the Thalia and both times we had a great time. All of the staff were helpful and very friendly and even recognised us after a year. This was the first time we had been on holiday with our 5 month old baby and were confident that the hotel and standards were good enough. All of the rooms are basic but what 2 star European hotels aren't, they contain all you need. The pool area is great and the picture in the brochure does it no justice, the pool bar will meet all your expectations and the food is good. The cleaner was in our room everyday and even though didn't speak English made a big effort to communicate in other ways. The only complaint is if you stay in the rooms facing the pool the music gets loud at night and continues into the early hours. We were hoping to book again this year (2008) but no places were left!!"
