Could do better!

"Have spent 2 weeks at Pefki Island Hotel and will start with positives first: Rooms and bed comfortable and cleaned every day except Sundays and replaced towels each day. No air conditioning unless you pay €10 per day! Asked for quiet and not ground floor room actually got noisy ground floor one. Hotel Said would find alternative room but we would need to wait a few days and room found on top floor opposite Supermarket - maybe quiet means something different in Greek. Wedding parties opposite our room took place in Elia restaurant and noise from the 5 held whilst we were there clashed with noise from pool bar and front of our room. Not everyone likes booming music around pool all day and hotel should consider having at least one pool music free. Do NOT use weighing scales in hotel reception it is inaccurate and we ended up paying £80 at Rhodes airport for excess baggage as a result of relying on accuracy of these scales! Rhodes airport is not a friendly airport and put us off returning here. Overall holiday was pleasant but for the overall cost when you add in extras Could Do Better! This includes the Thompson rep at the airport.......not helpful. "

"Rooms were clean and beds large and comfortable. However the pool area was tired and noisy with booming music all day and the evening "entertainment" finished midnight. Although we had requested a quiet upper floor room we were placed on ground floor about 100 meters from the pool and with our patio facing the side of the Elia restaurant. During our 14 day stay no fewer than 5 wedding parties took place on the upper floor of the Elia which is open sided and allows noise to travel to the surrounding area. Up until midnight we had the noise of wedding celebrations to one side and the poolside bar area to the other. I don't mind people enjoying themselves on holiday but being subjected to Elvis karaoke one side and the music and noise of a Scottish wedding party at the same time and going on until midnight was not what I expected. We were offered a move in a few days but I did not wish to spend a day of my holiday hanging around for the other room to be vacated and cleaned and have to pack and unpack again. Maybe another room would have been a bit quieter but it would be impossible to avoid the noise from one side or the other wherever your room was located. Air conditioning charge was excessive at over ten euros per day. The final blow came when having checked cases on the scales provided in reception at a charge of 1 Euro per case with the advice to use the scales to check your weight to avoid excess baggage charges at the airport we discovered when we arrived at the airport that the scales in reception were way out and weighed about fifteen per cent lighter than the airport scales. 30 kilos on reception scales was 35 kilos at the airport. Fortunately we were still within our allowance but other travelers were not so lucky. Another couple in our party decided to buy a few extra presents to pack after weighing cases in reception only to discover when they got to the airport that the scales had given a false reading. This cost them 80 euros for excess baggage and they were not the only ones. The Thomson rep at the airport was not interested and would only say if baggage is over it has to be paid. Overall I would say accommodation clean and comfortable but surroundings too noisy and felt ripped off with extra charges."

"Just returned from Pefki Islands Resort on 1st Oct 2011 after two wonderful weeks. Our accomodation in F121 & F224 was excellent and always kept spotlessly clean by the tireless friendly cleaners.Days by the pool were made most enjoyable thanks to Kostas & Sylvia at the pool bar.Meals in the evening at Elia Restaurant were first rate and made all the more enjoyable by the friendly and caring staff, particularly Kyriakos(hope i've spelt it right). We have already rebooked to return in August 2012.Many thanks from Lazy boy's Family"

"We stayed in G Block, of Pefki island resort hotel. It was a surprisingly spacious 2 bed apartment with balcony overlooking pools surrounded by mountains and sea. Comfortable, relaxing and modern with easy access to the beach and shopping areas. Part of a group of hotels close together, you can wonder around all of them and use all facilities. We usually prefer to try new places but this hotel is well worth returning to again and again."

"The hotel was built in stages, and the original parts are looking a little tired. Some of the more negative views are as a result of staying in the older parts. We were fortunate in having been given an apartment in one of the newer-build parts (and even those are a few years old). We had two good size rooms, both with en-suites. The kicthen had everything you really need (enough knives, forks etc - pretty basic stuff, but maddening when they are not provided). The rooms were spotlessly clean; no marks on the wall or furniture. Very impressed. We had a bit storm come through whilst we were there, which swept a lot of detritis into the pools. By 9am the next morning, the pools had been cleaned, and the poolside swept and hosed down. They really could not do enough. The hotel is nicely situated, with good access to the beach and into Pefkos. There are two Tavernas offering three courses for c. 8€. We ate in the two every night. Fantasic value, and the food was delicious. The choice was more than sufficient to have something different every night; baklava, stifado, souvalaki, mousakka, octopus (yep, tried that - probably best avoid that one though - what a sucker!!). Not much night life. Great. If I wanted that I would have gone to Faliraki, and I would urge those who want that kind of thing to go there and stay there, and not inflict such stuff on this quiet village. I wanted a peaceful, quiet, relaxing time, and that is what I got. If I was really picky and really pushed, the one fault I can think of is the toilet door. It squeaked. Not too bad in the day, but a little annoying at night. It would not take muach to fix that. Not that it spoiled my holiday, you understand, it just made me smile to think that I had found a really petty fault. "

"just come back from pefki island resort which is the original resort of the ioannian hotel group and clearly needed some refurbishment. very basic accomodation so surprised by the reviews given although you can be impressed on the surface as the place as looks fantastic, but dig deeper and the flaws are there. We have stayed in Rhodes many times and never been dissapointed and are seasoned travelers so not given to unrealistic expectations. The rooms we had were ant infested in the bathroom and kitchen area so unable to prepare food. Most horrific was the cockroaches which we found on our third day 3/4 inches some of them which the staff gave us a spray to use ourelves, with a 7 year old with us this was not good and we continued to find many more over the next days. The resturant was about the best part and clearly the other resorts on site, Lindia Thesolia and Island Blue seemed newer. If you are looking for good holiday dont go here, would recommend Lindos "

"We went to Pefki Islands in August and it was brilliant! It was the first time we had been on holiday for 2 weeks, as we thought it would be too boring before, but our family were never bored at all. The pool was large abd joined together by a little step. The sunbeds and parasols were free and food and drink was available all day. The staff were very friendly, especially the barman, Kostas! The apartments were really clean and there was the store about 10 steps away, which closed at 11 oclock at night. In the day you could travel to Lindos and buy loads of things really cheap. There are more hotels and apartments owned by the same people, so you can go to the other pools. Town is a short walk away, with loads of reasturants. I would recomend Enigma, Nostanga and George's to eat at. The beach wasnt wide, but really long and the sea was salty and warm. I would fully recomend these Apartments."
