18 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"We stayed at this hotel in june 2005 and are looking to return next year. I just wanted to post a review to advise people this is by far one of the best hotels i have ever stayed in and after years working within the travel industy and as cabin crew flying all over the world i cannot believe that people are whining over water being warm (if you don t already know water in greece is heated by solar power so it is irrelevant whether you stay in a 5* hotel or 1* apartment this is bound to happen)
instead of wasting your time reading to see if you can wash your hair properly read the positive reviews about wonderful friendly staff, great food and atmosphere, comfortable rooms, fabulous views and great location
Do not hesitate to book in, after all who wants a hot bath after a relaxing day spent in the wonderful greek sunshine"

Third fantastic visit to the Lindos Mare - can't wait to go back again!
"Weâve just returned from our third visit to the Lindos Mare (we got married there this year!) â and have already booked to go out there for our honeymoon year which will give you an idea of how fantastic this hotel is!
The location and views are simply stunning. From the moment you walk into the cool classy surroundings of the hotel reception and look from the cocktail verandah to the fabulous views of Vlicha Bay, I guarantee, you will be hooked! There are fantastic views from every part of the hotel which is set in attractive gardens leading down to the beach.
Iâve never been to a hotel where every single member of staff is so genuinely friendly and helpful, they really do make a stay at the Mare even more special. Special mention of course must go to Michalis, the maitre dâ â he is fantastic!
The selection of food at the hotel is excellent. When we stayed this year, we were accompanied by 21 friends and family, with the youngest being 2 years old and the eldest 81. Everyone enjoyed the food which tells you what a good variety there was, and my vegetarian friends and sister-in-law were well catered for too. There is a hot and cold buffet for breakfast and dinner (the hot buffet is cooked freshly in the restaurant) and at dinner there is also the choice from 3 main dishes of the day, so you can have just the buffet, or a main, or both!
Donât miss the Greek night held once a week at the a la carte, for a supplement to your half board meal there is a hot and cold buffet and barbecue with traditional Greek dishes, and music and dancing. Itâs a great evening and very popular.
We got married at St Paulâs Bay and had our reception back at the Mare in the a la carte restaurant overlooking the bay, it was a lovely evening and everything was really nice. Further to an earlier posting I saw, I can honestly say that while we were there for 2 weeks we only noticed the a la carte restaurant closed for weddings on about 3 occasions, every time we wanted to eat there it was open for all guests.
The cocktail bar near reception is well worth visiting. The cocktails are excellent, and they have a happy hour before dinner so we often went there for an aperitif whilst enjoying the late afternoon sun on the terrace.
This year we used the Spa at the Mare for the first time as a number of treatments were included in our wedding package. It really is an oasis of calm, I totally recommend the massages â the prices are very reasonable too. Beach towels are available free of charge from the Spa, and you can change them as often as you like. They give you a card when you first go in to collect them, which you get signed off and give to reception when you take the towels back at the end of your holiday.
There is also car hire available from the hotel. We hired a jeep from them the first year, but last year we hired one from an international company because we wanted to pick it up from the airport and we ended up paying heaps more and the 4WD didnât work properly! This year we hired from the hotel again and it was great. Rhodes is very easy to navigate your way around and it is well worth having the freedom to explore on your own. It takes about 5 minutes to drive to Lindos.
You can walk in to Lindos from the hotel which takes approx 20 minutes, or take a taxi or a bus (the bus stop is right outside the hotel). Lindos has a taxi rank in the main square so itâs easy to get a cab back. If we were going to Lindos in the evening weâd generally walk in and get a cab back.
We canât wait to go back next year, roll on June 2007!"

Tears and Tantrums
"Having a wife and 2 daughters all with long hair who loved to spend their days swimming in the sea and pool and sunbathing, the tepid water situation was a nightmare. Every night when it came to getting ready for dinner there were tears and tantrums and quite frankly, I agree with a previous review, it isn't acceptable in ANY hotel. What is the point in providing bathrooms with BATH TUBS when there isn't enough hot water to accommodate even showers? We have stayed in hotels all over the world, many bigger than this one and never encountered this problem before.
Our holiday wasn't completely spoiled, however, I didn't think much of the main courses at dinner time. boring and repetitive and those plates outside covered in clingfilm did nothing to inspire one."

"I got married in Lindos at St Pauls bay 2004 and we stayed at the Lindos Mare, what a fab hotel, we love it so much we went back the following year, we were planning to go this summer but they are fully booked (thatâs how good they are).
Our friends are getting married next year and are staying at the Lindos Mare as they thought it was fab when we stayed there, The hotel staff are so friendly and helped a lot, the food was outstanding!
All the weight I lost before the wedding was put straight back on! Hee hee! Thereâs a beach right by which is quite and amazing, and the food and bars (and nightclubs) are just a 5Euro taxi ride away, I fully recommend this place. See you there next August!"

My husband and I had our wedding ceremon...
"My husband and I had our wedding ceremony at St. Pauls Bay and as we were staying at the Lindos Mare we had our reception there. It was breath taking, what with the scenery and the very friendly staff. The hotel caters for everybody and they have a fabulous spa and health club.
There are lots of steps which isn't much of a problem as there are lots of lifts too. If you go half board you can swap your evening meal for lunch, which is great if you like to try different restaurants. If you love lazing by the pool all day, you need to get there early in the morning as it gets busy and some people reserve beds with their towels even when they havenât even been sitting there at all which can be quite annoying!
Because it was our wedding, we had a junior suite which was fabulous and I heard some people trying to upgrade to one. In a nut shell, this hotel is definitely one of the best!"

friendly hotel in with great views
"Location, location, location is what this hotel is all about. From the smart reception area via a quaint cable car down to the pool area and beyond, guest rooms tumble down the hillside like so many concrete shoe boxes. We booked a junior suite which was huge with a breathtaking view out to Vlicha Bay and beyond from the lovely flower bedecked patio. Room was clean but shower was lukewarm at around 18.30, a point picked up by other reviews. Floors are tiled and there is an empty fridge. There is a mini-market, handy for water etc., near to the pool. There are two small supermarkets within 15 mins walk along the "promenade" Restaurant was just about OK but we found it rather uncomfortable early evening with the sun blasting in. After sunset is much better as guests are not tied to a specific time or table here. There is an A La Carte restaurant by the pool which tends to be monopolised by the many wedding parties staying here. You will see many posh frocks and lots of sweaty men in immaculate dress suits. If you have a birthday whilst staying here, be prepared for one or two pleasant surprises. (I think they crog your birth-date from your passport). Entertainment was pretty dire here apart from the Greek bouzouki band who were excellent as opposed to the AWFUL beatles band and the excruciating song and dance act that would be thrown off any British pier if they ever dared set foot over here. Lovely sun-bathing area on lawn by beach, very relaxing here. Not much else to do at night but Lindos is not far away. You could walk it but it is a busy main road and we didn't fancy it. Bus to Lindos and Rhodes town stops at the end of the drive, timetable in reception. We paid 85 euros for three days car-hire, petrol is very cheap. Rhodes Island is beautiful south and west of Lindos and totally unspoiled on the west coast road to the incredible castle at Monolithos. The old city of Kameiros is well worth the trip. Elsewhere, a bit scruffy apart from Rhodes town which is wonderful and why are there so many unfinished villas everywhere.??? In short then, a wonderful quirky hotel with lovely friendly staff and we would highly recommend The Lindos Mare."
