Really, really lovely time
"Just came back this morning (03/07) and we had the most wonderful time. It's actually in Kalithea, not Faliraki - which is up the road - this place is ideal for a chilled out holiday. Just 2 of us went there, arrived early hours of morning and although the bar was shut, we were offered coffee and cakes by the security guard (George, who was a gem!) Rooms are good, it took us less then 3-4 minutes to walk to the beach, the pool was great but better for kids. Lovely beach, canoe and pedalo are free, coutesy of the hotel, safe key is also free, soft drinks, beer and ice-cream - help yourself all day. The staff are lovely and the choice of food from the restaurant is unbelieveable, we put on loads of weight, couldn't resist the temptation! The beach bar is great to go to cool off if it's too hot in the sun - most days it was 35 degrees - have a drink or icecream or mid afternoon crepe of your choice. The water is beautifull, crystal clear with fish swimming round your feet, no need to take a beach towel, that is provided by the hotel that can be changed every other day. The hotel is spotless, rooms made up every single day, whatever time you leave your room. Take a lovely boat ride to Lindos to see the acropolis (Ancient Greek Ruins), but be warned, it's a long walk to the top or take a donkey ride! This holiday was the most relaxing and best value for money ever. Mainly German guests here and gets busier here, with families and the very end of June."

Outstanding "Grecotel" service - room renovation required (this winter)
"Hello, We have spent 9 days at the Rhodos Royal. Here are our impressions; All-In basis is very complete. Positive: great breakfast (a shame there was no fresh orange juice...), lunch in main restaurant or on the beach, dinner with daily show cooking, Greek buffet, lots of vegetables, fish, meat, great Greek pastry, did not like the international pastry, nice variety of fruit and of course international cuisine, daily pasta for kids, etc.... We were first of all impressed by the very professional reception staff. I do not think this was related to the fact that my husband speaks Greek, they were really very good! The reception area and lounges are very nicely decorated (tasty and not outdated). The same for the main restaurant (you can eat on the balcony) - warm welcome from the staff and very efficient service. A bit disappointing: the rooms. Old worn out carpets (same for the halls leading to the rooms). Bathoom: ok, but need to redo the baths. The good news: we heard that this winter the hotel will be renovated. The gardens are fine. I think they should also redo the outside of the bungalows. We first had 2 rooms in a side building near the entertainment area. We have changed the next day (without any problem) and moved into the main building on the top floor. We had two nice frontal sea view rooms. The last day we have paid an extra 30 Euros as we had to catch a night flight. We moved into a family room on the second floor with one master bedroom and an additional room with two separate beds. The rooms were separated by a sliding door. The bathroom was very big with two washing basins. I would recommend this hotel because of the outstanding and efficient staff. The renovation issue is of course to be checked! Also note that we are a family with two teenagers. My husband and myself are very demanding qua comfort and food... If you want even more comfort and luxury I would rather go to a recent built five stars hotel with a real sandy beach. But we liked the "Grecotel philosophy". Have fun - hope this helps a bit in chosing your next holidays..."

Not very helpful
"Specified a sea view room and when we did not get one the hotel and thomsons were extremely rude. It seems if you book with Thomsons you are second rate - other companies have the choice of sea view rooms first and after you have left they just do not want to know. Appalling customer service."

nice hotel - shame about the food
"Just returned and Rhodes is a lovely island. The hotel was also lovely apart from the food. The weekly a la carte was no such thing with a fixed menu presented and the choice of wine was Red, Rose or White !!!. The main restaurant was too small with queues to get in and rushed service to get you out asap particularly at dinner. Despite a varied selection not once in a fortnight was a steak on the menu something I have always seen previously at 4* hotels . The roast lamb was restricted to one slice with very strange looks if you asked for a second. At breakfast always queues for fried eggs. Also along side the bacon carrots and sprouts were on offer. If this is a sample of Thomson platinum in future I will stick with Thomson Gold"

Loved the Rhodos Royal
"We had a 10 day stay in the Rhodos Royal from 30th August - 9th September - we had a fabulous time the hotel was immaculate - the rooms were very nice and clean - the facilities were excellent especially the help yourself beer pumps at every bar!! The food was excellent as were the staff - we will certainly be going back there - we had a great time and it is just far enough away from Faliraki so you have a choice on whether you want lively or not and if you do then it is only a 5 minute taxi ride. Well worth the money."

"Me and my parents went to this hotel in August and were quite disappointed. We went expecting a platnium hotel but found just a normal hotel. The pools were awful and slimy you could pick up pieces of the floor and that was the kids pool! Would you want your children standing / slipping on that? Beach bar was fab! Friendly and poliet service all day long however the br upstairs in the main hotel you could hrdly get served and at one point we ended up with things we didn't want. Food- alright if you like things drowned in oil and herbs even some of the less picky eaters in my family were reduced to eatting bread and salad!"

"We stayed for two weeks in this Grecotel. As we heard from regular Grecotel visitors this hotel would not meet with the Grecotel standards. But I must say that this hotel, beside some things that have to change, was quite comfortable. Most of the staff (especially at the reception, beachbar and restaurant) are very helpfull and nice. Our familyroom was spacious enough and very clean. Thanks to the nice cleaning ladies. The food was allright and there was enough choice(also at the beachbar). You don't have to wake up at six in the morning to reserve some sunbeds while there are plenty (finally a hotel that understands the needs of its guests!!!!). I always go to 4 or 5 stars hotel at a sandy beach. This was the first time we had a stone beach. This has some + and -. A big plus is that you don't carry 10 pounds of sand in your swimmingtrousers to your room. :) The beach and the see were also very clean (blue flag!). Kids need swimmingshoes!!! But when you are in the water (mind the slippery rocks!) you see a lot of fish. Our kids (9 and 6) enjoyed the see, the fish and the stones very much. Also a big compliment to the nice people of Amilikos watersport centre at the beach! The botanic garden is beautifull. We really loved the entertainmentteam. They where just great! Don't go to Faliraki it's horrible (except when you are a youngster!). Rhodos city is nice but unfortunatelly the old city is very touristic with too much shops. If you want to see the real Rhodos, rent a car, and go to the other side of the island and drive down the western coast. It is very nice! We are sure you will enjoy your stay at this hotel!"

"Have just returned from two weeks at the Rhodos Royal Rhodes. The hotel is excellent, the rooms are comfortable and clean. There is plenty of sunbeds available by the pool and also on the beach, not really necessary to get up at the crack of dawn to book your beds. When walking on the beach there is decking around the sunbeds to make it easier to walk, must say though if you are a beach lover then this beach is not for you, it is shingle/pebbles and stones, in the water it is very rocky, when you get to the sand you can't stand as it is to deep. In some places the beach dips away and before you know it you up to your neck in water, other places it gently shelves, everybody seemed to buy special shoes to swim in, they were a blessing as it stopped your feet getting cut by the rocks in the water, plus usually the sand is to hot to walk on. The food was of good quality, but very reptative, the theme nights were good, do recommend the beach bar, the food in there was excellent, you could eat there once a week. It is also a wheelchair friendly hotel, lots of ramps. The hotel gardens were lovely, neat and tidy. There is a lovely shopping centre right next to the hotel. Would we go back? I don't think so, as the beach is a let down, and we do love the beach, and like to feel the sand when swimming in the sea."

"Spent the last week in May at the Rhodos Royal and had a very nice holiday there. On arrival we were shown to our room which was horrible, after going back to receiption the girls who were really nice got the receiption manager who showed us two other room the 1st was a little better and the second was a family room suited us fine I like to have a sitting area with bedroom this is what we got for â¬17 per night upgrade fee. The staff were really nice very helpful and smiley, food was good. The garden was really nice and there were lovely flowers around. The beach was nice once we got use to the stones getting into the sea, you have to buy the little shoes and then there is no problem and the water is really great we stayed by the beach the pool area looked good too. Every place was really clean and you didn't have to leave the hotel for the week. We had a very relaxing holiday the view having meals or a drink in evening was lovely. I would recommend this hotel and if i was going to Rhodes again I would stay there."
