"WOW what can I say, We have been going for over 17 years and staying at the same hotel twice a year (May and October) I love every minute of it I have the time of my life. we always stay at the Golf View Hotel which makes our holiday 10 times better. The people there are incredibly friendly the atmosphere in the hotel is great the staff are amazing the place was clean very hygienic the swimming pool is a very nice size surrounded by sun loungers which is great if you fancy a quiet read in the sun or the shade. I would advise friends to go there (which I already have and they have) The food is very very good and plenty of choice. Many happy memories thank you to all the staff at Golf View Hotel that make our holiday so special. Don't know what D Benwell or C W Roberts are complaining about. "

"the worst hotel i have ever stayed in i will not let it put me off greece as there are a lot of good hotels and places i would not recommend golf view studios to anyone as it spoilt a good part of my holiday. everytime you want something you feel as though you are intruding. a lot of the time you have to wake up bar staff to get a drink or food or thay are watching t.v. and you have to wait till the programe has finnished before you can get served. the pool was not clean. in the 2 weeks we was there we had hot water 3 times. the electric wall sockets hanging of the walls with bare wires showing. entertainment none but yet thay still advertize it in the travel agents and when you get there the rep does the same i think the people who rate these places need to be going back and do there jobs properly so that people don't get false hopes like we did we will be going in to the tavel agents to report this issue"

"Greeted by the owner after arriving at resort at 6am, room was found to be clean and plenty of wardrobe/draw space required for our stay and the owner had left a large bottle mineral water for us. The apartment was only cleaned once in our weeks stay including bin in bathroom which we ended up changing ourselves! Nice quiet location only few mins from golf view hotel or Georgia apartments opposite from which you can use pool facities all day free of charge. A good 15 min walk into resort centre which was better than I had thought, a nice place for couples especially, lots friendly bars and restaurants. Bus stop for Rhodes town is 2 mins walk from Golf Bay Studios although be prepared to wait as the time they arrive is never what the timetable says! "

Cheap and Unfriendly
"Have absolutely nothing positive to say about The Golf View Hotel. Rooms (of which we had 2 - were asked to move by the hotel manager on day 3) were very basic. The first room (Room 205) did have a sea view if you managed to look through the palm trees, which were planted directly in front of our room, the 2nd room (No. 302) was a nicer room. We arrived at 3.30am on Sunday. Each morning breakfast consisted of exactly the same food.......bread rolls processed triangles of cheese and processed triangles of cooked ham, hard boiled eggs, jam, cereal, and dried out biscuits........oh forgot about the tinned fruit salad and yoghurt and the tepid tea and coffe. As you can imagine by day 3 we were less than enthusiastic about going in for breakfast. Evening meals were very basic (in fact I have never seen a pound of stewing steak go so far). One evening I asked for Stifado (a typical Greek dish), I was given 2 lumps of stewed steak and 7 onions). On our last day we ordered 2 toasted sandwiches and a plate of chips and it took an hour to arrive (my husband ordered at 2.30pm and we got our order at 3.30pm). On the whole I found the place to be ran on minimum expenditure by the management and to say it was unfriendly would be an understatement. On the last day we asked if we could pay extra to keep our room (as we didn't fly until 4.10am) we were told no the hotel was full and we had to vacate the room by 12noon. The room was still empty when we left the hotel for the airport!! We were told there were shower facilities on the floor below which we could use. We asked for towels to use in this shower room and were told "do you not have your own towels? We cannot give out towels to everyone who use the shower room"........well, as we had booked half-board in a hotel I wouldn't expect to take my own towels! In summary.... Golf View Hotel.....too far out of town and too far from the beach and a very cheaply ran establishment (maybe it should be re-named 'Faulty Towers'). Certainly won't be staying there again. PS: The safety deposit boxes were not ideal, one key for you to keep and the hotel staff had a master key (both keys to be used at once), this master key was often left lying on the reception desk where anyone could reach over and get it."

"Stayed at the Golf View Hotel in August, rooms were cleaned daily with daily towel changes. The view was non existant our room looked over a small courtyard, we did consider asking to be moved but all the other rooms seemed to be overlooking a builders yard. The staff at this hotel were very nice and what food we had was ok, we hired a car so we were out quite a lot. Our accomodation was self catering but the cooker had only one ring and the utentials were very bad. Good thing we never cook whilst on holiday, but the food at the hotel was very reasonable. On the whole we enjoyed the holiday, but Rhodes and the Golf View were not for us and we will not be returning whilst there are so many other islands that are far more beautiful to explore."

"The rooms were clean, but my bed creaked every time I moved. The bathroom had this funny bath that had bumps in it, presumably were your bum fitted, there was no shower attachment on the wall, so you had to sit in the bath and use the shower. It was supposed to overlook a Golf course and the sea, but straight outside was a Builders Merchant Yard, not very pleasant. The food was very very poor probably the worst I have ever had, breakfast consisted of brown or white rolls and bread, some of the rolls were stale, one form of meat, one form of cheese and eggs and there was cereal with powdered milk. The dinner was always the same salad, if it ran out you had to ask, and about 6 items on the hot dish which included potatoes and chips, so there was very little choice. Every night except one the only afters was watermelon. The shop was mostly empty, the shelves bare. I have stayed in Greece a lot of times, and have found hotels are really great, and this is the first right up I have ever given. It was a two star hotel, that has put extras in rooms such as air conditioning, T.V and fridge, and added a shop, so that they upgrade it from a two star to three or four. When we booked it was advertised as a four star. Even the beaches in Rhodes were pebbles and not sand, and I had to buy rubber shoes to get in and out the sea. I didn't find the hotel people that friendly, and have stayed in many places where they were friendlier. We were both very very disappointed. "

"We had a very enjoyable stay at the Golf Bay apartments. After three nights we did have to pay for the air conditioning as temperatures at night were still in above 29 and it was particularly humid. You do need a hire car to get around and see the island. There is a handy little road train in Afandou which doesn't actually reach the Golf Bay studios but gets close at the Oasis Hotel. This road train will get you to the village centre and to the beach. Although stony the beach is very enjoyable and the water is crystal clear. There are shops for basic needs in the village and a supermarket ten minutes walk away. Lefteris and his wife Vivi who run the apartments are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and towels and bedding are provided but not beach towels. We did a lot of self catering- eating salads and fruit for lunches and eating out most nights. We only ate once in Afandou at a taverna near the supermarket. We also ate out in Rhodes Town and Lindos. We used the hotel pool once and that was enough. It was spoilt by the loutish behaviour of the English guests who are incapable of putting together a sentence without swearing and whose children are badly behaved. With a hire car we visited many superb beaches and the ancients sites of Ialysos, Lindos and Kamiros and also the Valley of the Butterflies. We had a very enjoyable holiday- the only poor aspects were the journeys there and back. This is where the "package" part of the holiday kicked in. Once we had arrived and were independent we had a great time. If I go again I shall book flights with another carrier and phone Lefteris to book the accommodation."

Friendly but basic
"MY sister and I have just returned (8th Aug), we had a really good stay, we were always made to feel welcome and the staff did everything they could to be of help. The hotel was basic, but it wasn't described any other in the brochure so we weren't expecting too much. Overall it could do to be updated and the air conditioning should be as standard. We both enjoyed the walk to the beach and to the village, and again found people extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Would visit again."

the 'real' golf view hotel
"Have just returned from afandou this morning. Overall my boyfriend and i had a great time but thats probably more to do with the friends we made. Afandou itself isnt a bad place, its just not a tourist destination. The town is small and very greek which is want we wanted. The problem with the hotel is that its a 20 minute walk to the beach and the same again to the town in a different direction. In the heat thats a hard walk! The bus links are great around rhodes and very cheap. The beach in faliraki is much nicer than afandou. The hotel charge 50euro per week for air con. We went a week without which was hard so got a fan in the 2nd week which was fine. The pool is small and too close to the eating area and it gets cramped. If you go self catering i will warn you that cooking utensils arent very good. There is no hot water, you have to shower early in the evening while the sun still heats the water. It is a family run hotel. I had no problems but some of our friends had many issues with the staff being unhelpful. If you are planning to sightsee around rhodes then afandou is in a good position on the island. We visited hotel sivila a few times which was lovely!! Overall we have no complaints as it was a last minute, cheap deal!"

Would not return
"We have just returned from a week in Afandou. We booked a budget last minute holiday with a travel agent we know and trust. We did not spend much time researching the area and from now on, I am going to do the research! With so much info around on internet etc it is well worth it. The hotel was very much get what you pay for. We travelled through the night and on arrival after joining a long que to check in to hotel, we were asked if we wanted air conditioning at an extra 50 euros for the week, this was not exactly a welcoming reception. This is the week Greece had a well reported heat wave, temp was over 100 degree, making it hard to explore the nearby towns. A car is recommended. The rooms were ok, we were self catering studios and there was one hob and a tiny fridge. The first room we were in was with the very distant sea view, over a buliding site and a main road. We changed rooms because we decided we needed the air con after all to a room at the back- much quieter although a view over a sparse court yard. The pool is small, it is misleading to call it decent sized. The hotel is family run which does make for a slightly less commercial atmosphere but as another reviewer mentioned; the hospitality extends to taking care of the guests because we mean money of course. I enjoy walking, but the beach is too far and on a busy road. We tried to hitch a lift in the scorching heat down the road that led to the beach but to no avail! The beach is a pebble beach and although sparse (I have heard some people describe it as boring) I was just glad to be in the sea. The local village is also too far on foot if you are walking in the heat. Perhaps bearable at different times of year. The village has a few cheap eats but the bars are tacky and full of tourists. We had an early 3am return flight on Sunday morning- we had to pay 40 euros to stay an extra night- although we were given a fan for free for a few hours when I asked! I have paid a little more and had much better experiences, but after all it was a last minute budget holiday. I have returned with a sun tan! and there were no major problems or flight delays after all. You live and learn from your travel experiences I guess. Hope this review is of some help."

Last minute booking - good location for seeing Rhodes.
"We have just returned from this family friendly hotel, found room very clean, daily maid service and clean towels daily. Will certainly book this hotel again. For visiting other parts of Rhodes very accessable. If you want piece and quiet from the lively Faliraki walk into Afandou Village approx 20 to 25 minutes walk. Bars and Taverna's very hospital."

"The Golf Bay Studios were indeed in very pretty grounds. The rooms themselves are very well kept, nice and clean and what I would say was usual Greek standards. The kitchen had every utensil you could possibly need, plenty of plates, glasses etc. The bathroom even had a shower curtain! The room had a fan in it and we were told at the end of the week that we had to pay for using it. We had presumed that because it was already there that it was free of charge - it would be better if they weren't in already if the owners want to charge for usage. The owner Larry and his wife were very helpful and pleasant so no complaints there at all. What I would say was a downside was that every time we wanted to use the shower the water pressure would either go down to a trickle or completely off because the gardens were being watered by the sprinklers. We were also under the impression that the Golf View Hotel was a bit closer than it actually was (brochure description). Don't get me wrong we didn't have to walk miles, but a steep walk down to the main road, followed by about a 10 minute or so walk along the main road and back up the steep hill to get to the hotel in blazing heat is not the best, but we did get used to that. We were fit by the end of the week. The apartments are about a 30 minute walk into Afandu itself (though 15 minute back down the hill after a night out!). This is ideal if you really do want a quiet relaxing holiday. "
