12 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Irina Beach in Tingaki on the beautiful island of Kos and can honestly say it was the best holiday we have ever had. The owners and staff are the friendliest people we have ever met - nothing was to much trouble and they kept the complex so clean, the rooms were very comfortable, clean and spacious and most have stunning views of the Aegean Sea and pool area which is also maintained to a high standard. We also met alot of new friends, most of which go back year after year just as we intend to do. Tingaki center itself is a 30 minute walk along a coastal road or a regular bus takes you in for 1.40euros where you will find an array of Shops, Bars and Tavernas, and a beautiful Blue flag beach all of which are family friendly, one thing i will say is if your planning on trips dont book through your Tour operator, go and see Louise at Theokritas Travel on the main street, they do the same trips for a fraction of what the tour operators charge, we visited the Volcanic Island of Nissoros - a truly amazing experience actually going down into the crater to the steam vents. All in all this was an amazing holiday and would definately recommend Irina Beach for its cleanliness, peace and tranquility and is ideally suited to families with both young and older children. "

"Stayed one week at the beginning of August. Wish it was more. Very relaxing, beautiful setting with the beach next to the pool. Very friendly staff, who were always pleased to help. Rooms were clean with plenty of space. My only criticism would be the mattress on the bed. It was very hard and not very comfortable. Irena Beach although fully booked was very quite. You could always find lots of chairs round the pool. The food is very good but not used much by the customers staying at the resort. Most people seemed to go into Kos town or Tingaki to eat. I would certainly recommend Kos Town, Lots of good restaurants & Shops. Very friendly people, and its only a short bus drive away. The Greek night in Zia was fantastic. Good food, lots of free drink and great entertainment. Irena Beach Hotel in my opinion is a good base for exploring this beautiful Island. If you are looking for a lively holiday with entertainment, this Hotel is not for you. But if you are looking for a relaxed holiday with beautiful surroundings, lovely people with that family run feel, then this is the place. I will certainly be going back."

"This accommodation is situated right on sea front and is well maintained but is unfortunately a long way from the town/shops/tavernas. There is a small shop on site selling basics but because of restriction that no food/drink can be eaten around pool area unless bought from Bar this can become very expensive. The woman who runs the Bar (Anika) rudely made this plain to us when we were caught drinking from a can round the pool, although it was brought from their shop. Unless you wish to cook and eat all you meals in your apartment, or eat their restaurant food (which is basic snack food) it means car hire, a taxi, or hourly bus into the small town which has an excellent beach and a better quality of restaurants. Excellent apartment but no Radio or TV as advertised and a Building under construction right next door (which was not notified to us). These apartments are probably okay for families with small children who do not want to travel far but I did not find the staff particularly friendly or helpful and I found the restrictive rules and regulations offensive. "We have just returned from our third visit to Irina Beach and as always had a fantastic time. The location of the apartments is absolutely stunning. The apartments are extremely well run by Maria & Nikos the owners. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The apartments are extremely clean and the staff are fantastic. It takes about 40 mins strollling along the coast road to get to the village but there is a regular bus service. If its peace and relaxation you want then this is the place to be. Irina Beach has a lot of repeat guest which says it all ! Try it you wont regret it !"

"My partner and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Irina Beach and although the setting right on the beach is absolutely stunning we found the staff at the hotel extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. We researched the resort quite thoroughly before booking and what sold it for us was the fact that the hotel's website stated that all rooms had a sea view. Therefore we were quite shocked when shown to our ground floor apartment that our balcony was actually in the car park! When we told the manager Maria that we were expecting a sea view room she said speak to your rep and walked away. The rep informed us in the morning that there were no sea view rooms available and it wasn't until we showed Maria her own website that she backtracked and took us straight to a vacant room overlying the sea. Although we then had a lovely room the staff made our stay quite uncomfortable, because of our complaining I am not sure, but they were very unfriendly and even when we ordered food at the bar we were met with exasperated sighs. We started frequenting a bar at another hotel, the Atki Dimis, where the staff were so friendly and made us feel like one of their guests which just showed the staff at Irina Beach up even more. I must say the accommodation was lovely, the pool area and being situated right on the beach was perfect however the staff really let the resort down and we will definitely not be returning."

"We went back to the Irina Beach for the 4th time this year. Yet again it was excellent. As usual all the staff were great especially Chris and George. We met some great people and had a great time. The weather was still very hot in September, and we will be booking again for next year."

"Fantastic location, couldnât fault the apartments, bar, beach pool, food, service. Kids loved it. Pool very clean, no ear infections in sight! No entertainment at all, even though Greek night and BBQ promised; was ok because we met loads of nice people. Lacked atmosphere at night and felt could have done more to attract people into bar at night. Too far to walk for kids, no pavements into Tingaki. Have to rely on taxis and very busy bus (great fun after a few cocktails). Last bus at 11pm so you are quite tied. Brochure should state how far from town as 2 tired children did the walk one night, never again. Very relaxing, just what we needed. "

"Had the best time here Aug 2006. Staff very helpful and really good for families. Regular bus service into Tingaki or just a 10 min walk along the beach. Having the pool and beach made it fab and all you need to make it a great holiday within walking distance. Met a lot of nice people here and the children all got along really well. Felt very safe in the evening when the children wanted to play. Would really recommend this accommodation for families. You will want to go back again and a lot of the families here do."

"The photographs in the brochures do not do this accommodation justice, looking out of the studio / apartments past palm trees out into the blue of the Adriatic is paradise, all of the staff are friendly and helpful and the place is kept clean and tidy. The sheets and towels are changed every two days, with maids coming in daily to clean the rooms. Ideal for people looking for a relaxing holiday, with or without children, the pool is kept clean and fresh and the beach is just down from the pool, (approx 15 - 20 feet) The Irina is 2000m away from the centre of Tingaki, about a 20 minute stroll, buses come along every hour Kos-Tingaki 1.4 euros and taxis charge 6 euros from Irina to Tingaki."

Thomas (15), Sophie (14), and Mum and Da...
"Thomas (15), Sophie (14), and Mum and Dad too old to mention. As ever the kids quickly made friends on Kos and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They really enjoyed the water sports at Paradise Beach and the paragliding. Sophieâs legs were kicking nineteen to the dozen as they repeatedly dunked our daring duo into the sea. Paradise Beach also known as Bubble Beach due to volcanic bubbles coming up in the water at various times during the day. But Sophieâs favourite day was a shopping trip (by boat) to Bodrum, Turkey where she spent all her loot in one fell swoop on fake designer clothes (D & G handbag, top and jeans to match). Dad literally got his ears burnt in a Bodrum barberâs (flaming his non-existent ear hair off after a haircut) after Sophie got her hair braided. Dadâs favourite was the thermal springs a few miles from Kos town. Mother nature releasing her volcanic waters from her rocky fissure into the sea, so for the lizard-like tourists, you could have it very hot (lying or sitting close to source, as Thomas did for a few seconds), or gradually get acclimatized, mixing the Medâs colder sea with it. All human life was there, young and old, firm and infirm, a bubbling Babel of languages, like some human protoplasmic soup, returning to whence we had emerged and evolved. Sophie was a little disturbed on leaving since the sulphur in the spring had turned her âsilverâ jewellery black. Having tasted a bit of a nature, we also went to the island of Knickers-Off, sorry Nissyros famed for its volcano, and we intrepidly climbed down into the stinky and stifling crater to witness bubbling and hissing mud and sulphur deposits and come back with chemicals on our shoes. The stench was awful. Apartments were great and staff very friendly. We were worried about the heat in August but neednât have done: a nice breeze most of the time and the swimming pool next to the sea. Foolishly we booked too many trips with the tour operator when better value boat trips can be got at Kos Town or Tingaki with four for three offers etc, secluded beach barbecues and plenty of plonk thrown in. The Ancient Ruins in Kos Town are a must and plenty of restaurants to choose from. Best eating experience of the fortnight (apart from the beach barbeque) was up in the mountain village of Zia. "

"We have stayed at this hotel twice now, and are going back albeit independently again in June 2005. We both feel completely relaxed at home there. The staff (a family of four people) are very nice and cannot do enough for you. The apartments are very clean, the pool area and the snack bar the same. The bar in the hotel is extremely friendly with the owners joining in the fun in the latter part of the evenings. All in all we thoroughly recommend this hotel and this resort."
