Beware the barking dogs next door

Reviewed Sat 18th of September 2010

"My family and I stayed here from 1st sept till 16th. On arrival there was no-one to check us in (was early hours though!) Then nikos showed us to our room. Basic but clean. Decided to use the pool on the first day, couldn't believe how dirty the surrounding pool area was, especially outside the toilets, pigeon poo everywhere and it wasn't cleaned the whole time we stayed there.

The lady who cleaned our room was very nice although she could have done with some help as she was quite elderly and I had to ask her for a brush to sweep our balcony area.

Friendly staff,
quiet and relaxing

Nightmare to sleep at night, very noisy barking dogs, cockerels every night! Not easy when you have toddlers and want them to sleep.

Sun loungers and parasols have seen better days,
Pigeon droppings everywhere, pool and surrounding area not cleaned regularly.

Had to ask them to clean baby pool as feathers etc in there and looked really mucky.

We where the last guests to leave for the season and on our last day, I went down to the pool with my 3 year old only to find the pool had been drained!

No farewell from the owners as they had already left!

Overall a cheap getaway but we were left very disappointed as I read lots of positive reviews before we booked. All I can say is we wont be returning to the Aspro Spiti and we are usually easy to please.

A great week at Aspro Spiti !!!

Reviewed Mon 10th of August 2009

"We've just come back from a FANTASTIC week in Tingaki, Kos. The Aspro Spiti apartments offered basic but very clean accommodation, thanks to Zina, who cleaned maticulously everyday. The shower in the apartment wasn't that great but we didn't really mind as it served the purpose. Nicos and Poppi were very hospitable and were there to welcome us when we arrived. We were able to opt for air conditioning for only 35 euros, which I would definitely recommend if you're going at the height of the season(It was 38-40 degrees everyday), in fact we didn't see a single cloud the whole week!!! It was great to have a beach bar that served drinks and food all day long. The pool was a good size and we never had a problem getting a sunbed. You can rent Mopeds, Bikes and cars right across the road from Aspro Spiti which is convenient for getting to the beach if you don't like walking. Tingaki consists of one main road down to the beach, which has many tavernas and bars to choose from. Many of them have authentic greek cuisine .Just off of the coast road is an amazing vineyard taverna called 'Ampeli'. The food is wonderful and the ambience is even better. The beach has sunbeds and showers for your convenience.
A visit to the mountain village of Zia is a must. The sunset is spectacular!!
We would return to Aspro Spiti again as it offered everything we needed for a great holiday.

"I don't know what planet some of the reviewers were on when they visited the Aspro Spiti Apartments or indeed what they expected when they got there maybe a Butler and Servants to do their bidding? The owners were great, talked to you when you wanted them to and left you alone when you were sunbathing and very very helpfull if you wanted information of any sort.
The rooms were very clean, tidy and comfortable, after all you only sleep in them at night otherwise you miss out on a great resort and very friendly greek people in the area.
The birds were no problem at all the very small amount of muck was cleaned up by 09.00(and it was only on one side off the pool) The pool was very clean and kept that way all the time.
The bar area was always kept clean and the snacks served were very good and freshly made per order.
You do need the air con at night but it was value for money at 5 Euro (aprox £4.09) we could not have managed to sleep in the heat.
The trip to the Beach was only a 10 min stroll down the main road past the shops and eating places (where the food was fantastic) so you can spent the time deciding where to eat that night.
Thanks to the Family for a great holiday the Aspro is one place I would go back to again and again.

"These apartments are extremely clean and well maintained. They are situated just at the beginning of Tingaki, which is an ideal resort if you like a bit of liveliness, but not loud and brash.

The beach is fabulous and the tavernas are great, with freshly caught seafood on the menu caught by local fishermen.

The apartments are owned by a lovely family, and after visiting many of the Greek islands, I think this was my favourite place of all. The family have enough interaction with you to make you feel welcome, but leave you alone too. The pool is lovely and the bar just right!

We are looking to visit this place again, even though we tend not to return to the same place twice.

"We had no problem with Aspro Spiti Self Catering Apartments. Good value for money, clean large beds with enough facilities to make the holiday very pleasant. Large swimming pool plenty of sunbeds and a pleasant area for drinks and snacks.

Excellent supermarket next door. A bit of a jaunt to the beach but good for the daily exercise.

The staff were pleasant and the owner herself was very kind bringing mint tea and a dry biscuit for one of us after a Greek night out.

I will just comment on the pigeons { as everybody else does} we really found them no big deal and the owner's were doing there level best to keep them away but apart from climbing on the supermarket roof there was not much else they could do and they (the pigeons) certainly did not spoil our holiday. "Returned home two weeks ago, we had a great stay at the Aspro. Very clean in all areas of the apartments. The beach is fantastic but can be windy, the best sunbeds we have ever had and only 3 euros each.

Take a trip to Zia in the mountains to watch the sunset, its amazing.

Kos town is only 8 miles away, its a bit hectic with all the scooters. Paradise beach is fantastic, well worth a trip.

Overall it was a great holiday and will return and a big thanks to the owners Alex and her husband for a great time.

"Just returned from the Aspro Spitti on a two week holiday, we had a great time. The apartments very clean but on the small side, the air con is a must and at 3 euros a night worth every penny. The owner Alex was very helpful at all times.

Beware of night time to cover as the bugs just love you in Tingaki. The beach is fantastic ie two sunbeds with a parasol, table, ash tray, showers, wc and free lielos all for 6 euros for two people what a bargin. Beware of the breeze on the beach it will burn you, when the wind drops it can be very hot.

Tingaki is very laid back resort and no drunken teenagers and trouble free. The supermarket is next door to the Aspro and sell everything and its cheap. Tingaki is a great base for the island, Kos Town is 12ks away and only 1.60 euros on the bus or 13 euros in a taxi. Kos Town is lovely but a bit hectic. A trip to Zia in the mountains is a must and its only 6 euros from Tingaki express in the main street, paradise beach and bubble beach are fantastic and the views are breathtaking to say the least.

Having travelled to a few of the Greek islands this is the best so far, cant wait to return next year. Most of all take no notice of the bad reports on the Aspro Spitti, it was great.

"We combined our stay in Aspro Spiti Studios with a 5 day stay in Leros, one of the reasons we decided to stay in Kos was that I wanted to visit Leros.

We enjoyed our stay at the Aspro Spiti and found the lady owner and her son very helpful, she booked our taxi to take us to the port for our ferry to Leros.

We had a small studio away from the main building. It was clean, quiet and cleaned daily; all the staff were very pleasant and there is a large supermarket next door, plenty or restaurants and a fantastic beach.

We would stay here again. We enjoyed our holiday very much.

"The owners and tour operators were wonderfully helpful and most welcoming. The apartments were constantly cleaned by friendly staff.

10 minutes from a stunning pale sanded beach, the sea breezes meant that the temperature was never too hot. Shops and amenities are close to hand with many various places to eat and buy gifts.

Take advantage of the great places to visit including the mountains and the wonderful village of Zia, also pop across to Turkey on the hydrofoil and take in some of the history and sights there. An un-missable opportunity.

We had a wonderful holiday and are sure to return much of this due to the Greeks and their wonderful hospitality as well as the beautiful island."

What the hell is wrong with some people,...

Reviewed Sun 17th of June 2007

"What the hell is wrong with some people, we have just returned from a week in Kos and stayed at the Aspro Spiti apartments and thought it was brilliant.
The room was a good size and very clean, we had 2 single beds,TV,microwave, hob, kitchen sink,pots/pans,table/chairs, and a clean and tidy bathroom, no shower curtain but that’s the same everywhere you go in Greece, water was fairly warm but again its only heated by solar so shower early before it gets cooler.

The room was cleaned everyday; any glasses etc we had left in the sink were washed for us, bins done, beds striped etc.

There is a secondary door on your balcony that still lets the air into the room that should be closed at night if you don’t want to get covered in bites, and keep your bathroom window closed at night also, you can also by a plug in repellent to have on at night!

I was up early every morning before anyone else was around, I noticed the bird mess around the pool but by about 9.00 in the morning when people were starting to head out it had been cleaned away, the pool was brilliant, pool bar was not dirty at all and I can post photos of all of this to prove it if anyone says different!

Staff were great, even the cleaning ladies went around the pool area on the last day and said by to all the people that were leaving.

Better that most of the other rubbish in that area, there were people staying across the road at Sunset that came over to use our pool etc everyday, so that says it all,

Reviewed Thu 1st of March 2007

"On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Nikos who promptly showed us to our clean, spacious room.

There was a large bunk bed for my sister and I to sleep on, leaving us with plenty of storage space for our belongings. There was a clean kitchenette with a refrigerator and a breakfast table, and in the next room there was a good sized double bed for my parents, with air conditioning facilities.

The bathroom was a perfect size and the apartment was cleaned to what I would expect to be the standard of an apartment of a 4 or 5 star rating. It was by no means too small, as we managed easily with a family of four.

Our room was not filthy at all, as the friendly maids came round every other morning to check round the apartments.

On our first morning we decided to laze by the pool in the gorgeous hot weather, and I was very happy with the comfortable sun beds! There were plenty of places to sit in the shade of the trees across the way, and the pool was a cool escape from the heat.

There was also a choice to put up the sun parasols beside the sun beds, or sit by the pool bar and enjoy a drink with Nikos and Co!

The pool and surrounding area was never too busy or noisy, and if we made the choice to stay in the apartment area for the day, we always had a peaceful lovely time, and nothing bothered us.

We had no problem with pigeons, mosquitoes or ants during our stay.

Tigaki itself exceeded my expectations, in terms of how close by and convenient everything was. There was a large supermarket next door to the apartments which proved very useful for fresh pastries and any essentials we needed (i.e. sun cream supplies!).

There was a range of restaurants, taverns, nightclubs, shops and bars along the stretch towards the beach (only 500m to the beach) which we paid a visit to regularly. Our favourite restaurant was The Sagittarius, providing delicious food (Greek, English, Italian and Indian!) every day and night.

We visited the beach nearly every other day, and enjoyed the big doughnuts that the doughnut man sold to us.

Overall, the service, cleanliness, apartment and area were all amazing and I definitely recommend that you book a holiday here, whether you are a couple or family. Thanks."

"I’m so surprised with the comments that people have been making about these lovely apartments. Myself and my partner jim recently booked here as a very last minute deal, we flew out with bmi, which were great, plenty of leg room and a free meal!

We arrived at aspro spiti in the early hours so didn’t get a great feel for the place, we were shown to our apartment which I was very surprised to see how clean they were, a sweet bathroom with a fantastic power shower, which was cleaned every day and clean bedding every day too!

The following day were headed straight for the pool which was only across the pavement, the pool was extremely clean and got a very friendly welcome by Steve and Nikos, the sun beds were always available and a complementary drink was offered as a welcome.

A few minutes stroll down the hill was a fabulous beach with great sun beds too! There are plenty of great restaurants and snack bars which we enjoyed night and day!
Tingaki has everything that a couple or a family needs, with a great apartment like aspro spiti and great food, what more can you ask for! There are plenty of trips running daily which are great if you’re feeling adventurous too.

I would recommend aspro spiti to everyone and Tingaki is superb! The best holiday we've had!"
