"Very efficiently and clinically run hotel
Rooms clean and spacious
Situation elevated and good views over Kefalos Bay
In agreement with most other reviewers, Ie the breakfast is a bit of a joke, either toast or cereal(however ,you can get both sometimes if you insist)
To be fair it seems that other hotels in the area offer the same
Staff friendly but sometimes feel as though its a bit 'forced'
Pool area is spacious and clean, however, never saw anyone checking the chlorine levels
Kefalos is quite a quiet resort that looks as though it has seen better times(a sign of the recession that has hit Greece particularly hard)

"Me and my partner have just got back from a smashing holiday in kafalos Greece, but were extremly shocked at the Hotel food. The hotel very clean and presentable staff very friendly, not the holiday for teenagers as no entertainment at night. The continental breakfast was a joke, 2 pieces of jam and toast, or cornflakes!! we had to buy our own at 5 euros each so went and found a good brekfast bar in the village and had loads to eat.Evening meals basic and shocking no afters!! Went to habour for my deserts. So ideal for a relaxing holiday if you dont eat much. "

"Have just returned from a 12-day stay at this hotel and have never stayed at a hotel like it! Run by a family who are money grabbing and cost-cutting with everything. Continental breakfast is a joke. The 2-weekly buffet-style evening meals are adequate, all the other meals are not, particularly as there is no dessert. Would not stay here again, or recommend to anyone either."

"Just got back from 2 weeks at The Hermes Hotel and couldn't have asked for a better time. The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. There were 6 of us in the party and we would all highly recommend the hotel and Kefalos to anybody.

The only downside was the steep walk back from the bars and restaurants, however the hospitality we were shown at the hotel more than made up for this.

A truly fantastic hotel with amazingly friendly staff"

"THE GOOD :

The staff and the hotel was friendly and clean diana who owned the hotel was friendly spoke brilliant english and was always willing to help as was her husband and bar manager. The hotel was keep very clean 5/5 for that. There was a fridge in the hotel room which was very impressive as at most hotels this is a rareity. you got clean bed clothes and bedding everyday except sunday. The pool was very big and cleaned daily, there was sun loungers which had a bit of cushioning on them and a mini library {which consisted with old books people had left behine but none the less they came in useful if you finished the ones youd bought with u}

THE BAD:

there was no entertainment at the hotel except a little games room with a table tennis table and a tennis court out side so if you have kids there is no childrens entertainers or any shows on at night. {although this didnt bother me personally}when outside eating by the pool there is a couple of stray cats who are extremely friendly but will try and steal your food {i felt so sorry for them i went to the shop and bought some cat food for them}. If you want air conditioning you have to pay 7 euro a night for it which istant cheap and we had to have it on at end of may so i shud think it is a prioity in july auguest time.

the ugly:

BREAKFAST what a joke we went b n b and i was expecting a fry up in the mornings or at least a bit of egg on toast but no you could have cereal or 2 pieces of toast and the olny cereal they had was cornflakes one morning i asked if i could have a bowl of cereal and toast and i was told no CEREAL OR TOAST so i didnt no if to laugh or cry at that point if you do want beans or egg with your toast it costs 2 euro. its not to bad but the hotel is on a bit of a hill so if you suffer with walking or mobility problems this would be a bad place for you to come as you have to walk down the hill to get to the shops, bars ,restraunts and beach and then obviously back up the hill to the hotel.

all in all the hotel was ok it was clean and friendly and we paid 250 each for a week so we cant really conplain at that cheap price! kefalos is beautiful and everyone is so friendly but be warned it not really busy so id advise if you like to be constantly entertained hire a bike or car and explore the ireland theres some lovely beaches you can go to and kos has plenty of shops and a lovely harbour. I had a brilliant relaxing week!"

"me and my boyfriend went for a 2week break at the end of aug diana sebastian and nick where all so welcoming and nicks (brand new) if u go ask him about it hes great! the hotel was really clean and welcoming for everyone although there wasnt many children mostly couples.

u may be miss lead about the mountain u need to walk up its a small hill which gets steep 2 minuests befor you get to the hotel, its a 20min walk to the main harbour! very quiet!

i would say get the air conditioning as the rooms get extreamly hot during the night, the sunrise is amazing about 6ish if ur up! you cant see the sunset from kefalos but there are excursions u can go on.

there are many diffrent nights in the hotel food wise, a buffet night and a bbq night diana's food is amazing with loads on offer! id go back its a fab place"

"We have just returned from lovely Kefalos having tried the Hermes Hotel for the first time. We found it to be 'ok', nothing more, nothing less really. The rooms were comfy and cleaned each day with bed changes every 2 days. Although there were warnings about taking alcohol back to the hotel (as its B and B and not self catering) this did not deter us and no-one said anything. Breakfast was distinctly average. If you did not ewant to pay more you got lightly browned toast with just one small butter pack and some jam and marmalade that was sweet and not very nice. However, if you wanted to pay a bit more they did 'extras' including various omelettes which we found were very nice. The one big dis-advantage about the location?? The long long climb up the hill from the beach. It is really energy sapping and for that reason alone we would not return to the Hermes. We were disappointed on the last few hours when Sebastian lost our passports having been adamant he handed them to us at the pool an hour earlier. Thankfully they found them carelessly put down underneath the counter but it was their insistence that we were stupid and and must have forgotten we were handed them when we werent. All my efforts to get them to waive the EURO25 extra charge for the extra hours we needed in our room (our flight was not until early hours next day) went for nothing. All in all it was OK, the people were friendly but the location is definitely not worth the effort. Lindsay and Sue"

"My boyfriend and I (both 20) went to the Hermes at the end of August for two weeks. It truely was an amazing holiday. We arrived at the early hours of the morning and I have to admit that when we were dropping off the other passengers at their hotels I was very nervous at what our hotel was going to look like but thankfully we were pleasently suprised. The Hermes is up a bit of a hill..its not as steep as everyone stays but it is hard work during the middle of the day..plus it does say in the brochure its on a hill...when we first entered the hotel we were greeted by Nick Sabastians son and he is just a legend!!! but ill get back to the family in a bit... our rooms were lovely we had a gorgeous view..they were basic, clean and cool...although for the first few days we needed air con...the cleaners came everyday apart from sunday and changed bedding and towels etc. The pool is a great size with plenty of loungers, very clean!

The family at the Hermes were just fantastic...they all were polite and very helpful..Diana makes the BEST food i have ever tasted before she is a legend and she is just lovely...her daughter is so friendly she made our pool side visits excellent and makes the BEST shakes!! Spearos the night bar tender is one funny funny man he makes lethal cocktails though so becareful what you ask for!!! Nick...we could write a whole section on the New York Greek he is just so so funny and just one great guy...he kept us entertained from the late nite to the early early mornin...he looked after us and everyone there and made us feel part of the family...he recommended great places to eat and drink and got us discount on quads to visit the island. However, do not get on the wrong side of him or sebastian, if you take the micky they will let you no..greek style!!

The Island was beautiful. We spent the first week travelling around all of the island (kardamena, Kos Town, Tingaki, Psalidi) we had a great time going to ancient sites and castles and even took a trip to turkey. There is alot to do on such a small island! The beach is very nice but busy so get down quickly! The strip is great it has plenty of bars and restaurants that are very cheap and welcoming...it was what we needed not clubby but still every nite was a great nite!

Everyone should visit Hermes!!!"

"I have recently returned from the hermes. We didnt choose this hotel, we were double booked. I was a bit worried by some of the reviews!
The location is not a problem, in fact its quite good 1/2 way between beach and old village. its approx 8 mins to the nearest shops etc down the hill and a 15- 20 uphill walk to the old village. the huge hill from the beach to the Hermes is actually only a slope. the hill to the old village is more challenging, you need reasonable fitness for it1 but from the hermes to the beach its fine, the only problem is that the road is busy and there is no pavement.
The rooms are extremely clean. regular towel changes, I stayed in the self catering studios, these are large, but not that well equipped if you were wanting to cater at all.
i tried the breakfast a coulpe of times, i had no problem with it. The extra items are inexpensive and if you buy a continental breafast in kefalos you get exactly what the hermes supply.
the pool was quite large and there are always plenty of empty loungers.
all considered, its good value for money."

"Just come home from a wonderful holiday at the Hermes, all the family who ran it were lovely & could not do enough for you. Breakfast bit basic but you could purchase more than toast or cereals if you wanted to do so. We were the only English people on half board & the food was good home cooking, it was a shame more people did not have a evening meal except when it was the all you can eat buffet night. Diane was so nice & friendly that she started asking us what we would like best for our evening meal & I got tips off her how she cooked certain things!!!

Car hire from the hotel was very good & very cheap. Pool area & bar excellent & food very reasonably priced, lots of sunbeds.

The slight slope walking back to the hotel was not bad at all & it was nice to have a walk after you have been eating & drinking.

The quiz night on a Sunday was good fun, find out what you can before the quiz about the family & that we will help you answer some of the questions.

We met lots of friendly people staying there who had been for numerous years & we would certainly reccomend anyone to go there."

"I never make comments on a hotel until I read the reader who put the Hermes Hotel down for reasons that point out to me that they are miserable from the get go. The Hermes Hotel was a nice surprise to me. After traveling to Europe throughout the years, this hotel was a nice surprice. It was very clean and if you had any complaints, there was always someone available to you to fix those problems immediately without any disagreement.

To say that Nick was unpleasant, you must not have any children of your own. He was an enjoyable, layed back person. The person that wrote this comment must be really stuffy and what they need to do is stay home and open there own resort and control all the iffs. I wish them good luck.

As far as the hotel, it was very reasonable and given the English dollar to the Euro...what do you want EVERYTHING. The hotel was very clean. Food was made available to you throughout the day for a very reasonable price. You can get anywhere you wanted because right outside the door was a bus that took you anywhere in the island, throughout Greece, etc. The time schedule was available for you to plan your entire week.

If you wanted to stay by the pool or take a walk, there were many choices for you. I would definately go to this hotel again.

I can only imagine that the review was written by someone in the nearby area who does not know what they are talking about."

"Sorry but cannot disagree more with the previous review about the hermes. We are a family of twelve who have returned for the second year to this hotel and believe me it is hard to please everyone but not one of us had any complaints. Yes the breakfast is toast and jam but not mouldy with tea coffee and juice i agree that the breakfast is very small but it does mention continental breakfast. We all had rooms on the ground floor but never had any ants in the rooms, last year one of our rooms had a few ants but this was because some of the kids had been eating biscuits and once this was stopped so were the ants. We received a letter from Thomas Cook before we left to inform us that the air con was payable locally I suggest that if the holiday makers were not informed of this they should take it up with their tour operator. Yes fans were for hire but this also happens in alot of other hotels in both Greece and Turkey. Maybe the tour operators should put a note in the brochure to say that kettles and fans are available to hire.

The rooms are beautiful after the modernisation and have the best showers that I have ever used abroad. Dianna makes sure that all the rooms are cleaned to a very high standard 6 times a week. The pool is cleaned daily and if you are an early riser Sebastian can be seen doing this at about 7.30 every morning. I cannot comment if Nico used bad language or not however we never experienced it. This family cannot do enough to help you out.

The pool is really big and has fantastic views, the constant breeze helps to keep you cool during the day. The pool bar sells everything from Greek Salad to pizza all reasonably priced.

From the bus stop opposite the hotel you can get a bus to Paradise Beach, Mastihari (beautiful small resort, with fantastic beach), the aqua park, Tingaki and Kos Town. The fare varies, Kos Town is the furthest away and is only 4 euro each way (less if you have children under 12).

In the evening have a walk down to the front we recommend Captain Johns, Marias Restaurant, Santa Barbara, Sebastians (with free internet cafe) for your evening meal. For a drink in a friendly atmosphere try the taverna just after the memories taverna it is ran by two brothers so we just call it brothers bar. The guys are really nice without being in your face and drinks are cheap, sky sports is shown on all of their screens but is not loud as it has the background music also. For comedy, hypnotist nights etc head for Sydneys Bar further along it has a buzzing atmosphere most nights. Along from Sydneys is Bar 52 it is looked after by a really nice young English couple and they do fab cocktails. Sebastians is a little walk further along from here.

All in All Kefalos is a fab resort with something for everyone and Im sure you wont be disappointed with Hermes Hotel."
