10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
Simply perfect and relaxing. Spot on.
"Hotel Santellini is just off a little road to the beach that isn't really busy. The beach is about a minute away. Flipflops are a must as there isn't any sand and the pebbles get hot after midday.
We booked with Thompson, and all went well, Tour rep was good too.
The hotel is probably one of the nicest, peaceful and relaxing ones we have stayed in on our Greek trips, and we were certainly please when we saw the other places during the other drop off's. (one hotel was behind the islands power plant!!!)
Breakfast was from a reasonable 8-10am and included the usual continental ham, cheese egg..... and cereal etc.
The rooms are nice and cool and the air con was nice n quiet and set/locked on comfortable cool temperature. This made my wife happy cos I usually end up mucking about with the remote and freezing her at night. Staff were really friendly, nothing was a problem and it was a delight staying there.
Rooms were cleaned every day. Our room was facing the road but still quiet as there isn't heaving night life or traffic so its fairly quiet, and it was out of the sun so stayed cool.
For us this holiday was ideal. Everything we needed and wanted was a few minutes walk away. As soon as you step out of the hotel, there are many shops restaurants and bars to choose from. Just next to it is a bits n bobs shop "2 Friends" Best shop for weird stuff and we popped in most days.
Our fave restaurants, mainly cos we were lazy, were the Sea View restaurant, the one next to & just before the Love Boat (can't remember the name) and of course the Love Boat cocktail bar its self. They do like to bring round the free flaming Sambuca's through the night and also give you a free drink before you leave. Even restaurants like to finish off the meal with a drink on the house. It was nice that even though there were so many places to choose from for food, that they still managed to put their own recipe or method to their food. My wife had 5 moussaka and each one was slightly different but still delish! Oh and none of that horrible tinned veg on your plate like we have come across on other islands.
Most restaurants have an inside and outside bit across the road which was a nice touch, felt like you were walking through each one, although they do ask you nicely but not pushy, to try get you to eat at their restaurant as you pass.
There is a brill Gyros bar along the sea front past the Love Boat, don't be put off by the 2 young chaps who look like they took time off saving trees, the gyros are delish and still cheap!
We did a couple of excursions, "Caldera cruise" and "Simply Santorini" Both trips we had the same Australian guide and she was really good. The cruise took us onto the volcano for a hot walk, we didnt know it was extra â¬2 entry onto volcano so luck we had change, Question it before you book the trip! Still amusing to see tills on a volcano..... and we then sailed off to the hot springs. Don't wear light swinging gear as the water/mud is red from the iron and will stain. Then sailed round, had a BBQ type lunch and headed home.
Simply Santorini, took us to a few small local sights, then the Winery. Then finally off to Oia to watch the sunset with over an hour n half to have a wonder round before sunset. Its special as its a high point to watch it. It gets crowded in the village so we watched it from next to the coach park which was perfect.
Couldn't help laugh when the Americans started to applaud the sun when it set!!! ...Yep, honest!
Will definitely go back!"

Great little hotel
"We stayed at the Hotel Santellini in June 2008 for one week. Our reason for visiting the island was for my sisters wedding. The whole group (20+) stayed in different hotels in Kamari but we thought ours was the best.
Very clean, great location (basically round the corner from the main strip with many restaurants and bars to choose from and also the beach), absolutely no problems with noise during the night or the day. Very relaxing and serene.
If we ever return to Santorini we will definitely stay at the Santellini again.
Wouldn't recommend the hotel for young children but for a romantic retreat, definitely."

Hotel Santellini, an excellent find.
"The small, architect designed , Hotel Santellini in Kamari has been open for five years but looks and feels brand new. We were really impressed by the hotelâs location, cleanliness and a host of thoughtfully added extras.
Rooms are furnished in simple Greek style with tiled floors. All have good quality bed linen, blue and white bedspreads and pretty white curtains with a blue motif.
We had a maisonette with a traditional vaulted roof on an upper floor. Ours had a fridge and a small kitchen unit with a power point for a travel kettle (take your own kettle). There was a fan shaped rack at the side of the balcony for drying swimwear and towels (so no ugly lines of washing to spoil the view). The hairdryer was attached to the wall right by the mirror. The room was air conditioned and had a wall mounted satellite TV with BBC World. There was also a radio built into the wall behind the bed.
There is a safe (for a small charge).
Our bathroom was small but well planned.
The buffet breakfast consists of cereals, Greek bread, ham and cheese, Greek yoghurt and honey, hardboiled eggs, juice, coffee or tea. Seating is inside the breakfast area or on the small terrace by the pool.
Giannis, the owner greeted us every morning. He was friendly and welcoming. He and Leah, the receptionist, could not have been more helpful.
Convenience; The sea front at Kamari is very close.
The water taxi to Perissa (around the headland) is a short walk away. Weather permitting, the last boat leaves at 4.30pm from Kamari. Last return from Perissa 5.00 pm.
You are well placed to visit Ancient Thera at the top of Mesa Vouno (note Ancient Thera is not the same place as Fira).
The hotel is tucked behind some small shops (souvenirs, jewelry, clothes and travel agents).
You are inside the pedestrian area and also close to a huge choice of restaurants.
You are close to several mini supermarkets.
You can buy take away gyros and souvlaki on the corner opposite the bus stop (just in case you have an ENORMOUS lunch and can only manage a snack for supper).
The bus stop is just around the corner from the hotel.
There are several travel agents within very easy reach.
The airport is easily accessible.
What more could you want?"

LOVED Hotel Santellini
"We stayed 6 nights in Oct. 2007. The hotel is so spotlessly clean, it has the appearance of being brand new, though it is not.
Our room was bright and immaculate. Buffet breakfast is included and the bright, cheery breakfast room overlooks the pool. The offerings: boiled eggs, a few choices of cereal, juices, muffins, cheese, meat, fruit, coffee and the to-die-for- thick beautiful authentic Greek Yogurt, with thick honey to drizzle over. The owner, Giannis, would wander through and greet each of the guests. A couple of tips: We did not use taxis or buses but chose to tour every inch of the island on a MOTO (quad) Great fun! The cheapest one seems to be (I forget the guy's name) if you go to the beach and turn LEFT and walk for a bit...you will find the rental place. Also, the cheapest place for internet is right across the street, though I think there is a computer in the lobby of the hotel. Also, our departing flight was not until 6:00, and because our room was not booked that day, Giannis kindly offered us the continued use of the room for the day until we left. We highly recommend this hotel. Their website has great photos of the hotel. The SEASIDE restaurant, down to the left on the beach...fabulous food and service. The fava bean dip...divine."

Great little hotel w/ local architecture
"I stayed there for three days and everything about the hotel was perfect. It is located like 1/2 block from the beach and surrounded by little shops where you can find souvenirs, groceries, rent a car or have a great dinner.
The hotel is in perfect condition, it is cozy and the staff is very helpful. My husband and I are planning our next trip to Santorini and we are definitely staying there again.
One little thing, the showers are very small, I guess that will only bother you 15 minutes per day."

Delightful, friendly, spotlessly clean hotel
"We have just returned from a weeks stay at this lovely little hotel. We travelled to Santorini for our daughter's wedding and I have to say that it wasn't an island we would have planned to visit but are so glad we had this opportunity. From the moment we arrived it was all so simple, the hotel is just 5 minutes from the airport so within 30 minutes of arriving we were unpacked and relaxing with a drink by the pool. Don't be put of by mentions of aircarft noise, this is a very quiet island with few flights - it is not an issue at all. We received a very warm welcome from Leah who offered us a choice of 2 rooms, one overlooking the road and one by the pool. Either would have been fine as the road is not busy and it would have been interesting to 'people watch', however we went for the pool view.
The rooms are all of a good size as is the terrace/balcony and the fridge is a nice touch for cold drinks etc. The standard of cleanliness at this hotel is exceptional, everywhere was spotless. The owners Martha and Giannis took over this hotel from their family about 7 years ago and have completely re-vamped it. The result is charming, and modern but retains the lovely 'laid back Greek feel' and hospitality. The pool is really nice with ample sun beds when we were there and they have a bar with a small upstairs terrace from which to enjoy your drinks . The owners and their family could not have been more friendly and helpful which of course always adds to a holiday experience.
Getting around is easy , quad bikes abound and taxi's are reasonable too. There is a good bus service also but they are hot and crowded particularly from and to the port and places of interest. The beach is just a minute stroll away at the bottom of the road, sunbeds are 6 euros for the day. The promenade is lovely to stroll along day or night and has plenty of very nice restaurants with reasonably priced menus and the shopping on the island is great.
Having looked around the island we felt Kamari was the best choice of resort. Enough to do without being noisy or commercialised. Do at least go and see Thira and Oia for the sunsets - absolutely magical as the sun dips into the sea and all the little lights come on in the tiny houses, bars and hotels cut into the caldera. We went to Oia in the morning when it was cool and uncrowded - a good time to visit. Beware of Mondays in Oia, big cruise ships with up to 3,000 people arrive in this tiny clifftop village !!"

Great value near the beach
"We stayed 6 nights at the Santellini, and it was a wonderful stay. When we arrived, our room hadn't been cleaned yet, and we thought that was a bad sign. However, the room was promptly and professionally cleaned, and the rest of our stay was perfect.
The hotel is in a nice location just a jump from the beach. The views from the hotel are nothing to write home about, but we didn't spend much time there anyway, so it's not a big deal. Rooms have a balcony overlooking the nice pool area, and it's quiet there. Within just a block of the hotel, you can rent a car, grocery shop, have all three meals, buy Greek souvenirs and jewelry, get a beer or frappe, exchange money, swim and sun, and catch a fish.
Our room had a relatively small bathroom, but we worked things out just fine. The beds are the standard European style - thinner, flatter matresses - but were comfortable.
Our only complaint was that the towels were "scratchy." I'm not sure how they're washed, but they're not very soft.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The staff is very nice and professional, the hotel is very clean, the location is very good, and we would recommend this hotel."

Great place to stay with good personal service from the owner
"The santellini hotel is wonderful. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel is very young - only 2 years old and the rooms smell of freshness. The bathroom in our room was very clean and well designed The white marble outside the rooms makes the place feel very luxurious and pristine. The bed was nice and large and the mattress was very comfortable. The Staff at the Santellini Hotel is one of its best qualities. They couldn't do enough to help you. When i asked how much a taxi would cost from Oia to Kamari, the woman at the reception desk called the taxi company and got us a cab for 15 euro rather than the standard 22. When we almost missed our flight back to Athens because of a general strike, the hotel owner personally took us to the airport and helped us get on a flight that was sold out. We were really surprised and pleased to encounter such nice and friendly people. I would definitely recommend staying here. When i return to Santorini, i will definitely return.
Before getting to Santorini my wife and i were second guessing our decision to stay in Kamari. We were wondering if it would of been better to say in Fira or Oia. Well by the time we left Santorini we were reassured that we had made the right decision. Kamari is surprisingly wonderful and the atmosphere is nothing but relaxing and chill. The road that runs along the beach is charming, has lots of good restaurants and a dramatic ocean view."
