Santorini, also known as Thira, is Greek volcanic archipelago and the most southerly of the Cyclades group of islands.
Widely known for its stunning views and romantic sunsets this island is a favourite venue for weddings as well as honeymoons. The capital, Fira, sits atop a cliff overlooking a large caldera (volcanic crater) and is only accessible by cable car or on foot. Spectacular sunset views can be seen from here as well as from the town of Oia although these two towns can get very busy with tourists from the many cruise ships that dock at the island. The popular beaches can be found in Perivolos and Kamari on the south-east coast and consist of black volcanic sand.
Weather in Santorini consists of very hot summers, rising into the 30s on many occasions, and very mild winters with little rainfall.
Santorini Airport services the island and is located close to Kamari village.
