Not much fun
"We came on holiday in September only to find the apartments on the other side on a busy main road which was a big pain having a child and a pram. (do not go if you have a pram). Yes you can go under the underpass but it way down the road you want to enjoy your holiday not walk all day and night to get some food.
Main problem was we booked 3 rooms but only had 2 for the first 2 nights of the stay well after asking if they have anything available and talking to the rep etc just major problem and basic thing when you book your holiday.
The staff are very nice but does not make up for the lack of basic organization"

May 2011 (Rainbow Wedding)
"I have been going to crete for the past 4 years and we always stay at Rainbow only once did we stay somewhere else and was so dissappointed that we booked and went back to crete 7 weeks after returning and stayed at the rainbow, no where in our eyes in stalis compares with rainbow. We held our wedding there this may and it was truely amazing could not of asked for more, there was 16 of us and i can honestly say there was not one hiccup what we asked for we got and much much more, this would of not been possible if the staff Maria,Thomaz,Anna.Eddie,Netti and Delia was not there, they arranged everything and hopefully they will all now be friends for life. The guest we invited were so impressed with their rooms and this was all of the first time visit to Crete, we all stayed in Superior rooms, the grounds are immacculate as are the rooms and the pool area, nothing is ever too much trouble. The entertainment is wicked specially Crazy Greek Bingo (thats the reason i keep going back lol). This place is ideal for the older person, young person and families, the town is a short walk away as is the beach. I could go on and on raving about this place but would rather people go see for theirselves. We arrived back in the uk on 17th may 2011 and by the 22nd may 2011 we booked to go back at the end of this August for 2 weeks LOVE IT and i am sure people will not be dissappointed if you try.More than happy to share photos with peolpe of the wedding held here let me know as i cannot upload them for some reason, or if you look up Rainbow apts stalis on facebook some of the photos are on there"

Lovely apartment and location
"Quite pleased with the apartments, very clean although the cooking facilties are not up to much, just 2 hot plates and a jumbo size saucepan and a frying pan so our plan to have some meals in didn`t really work out,a toaster would have been nice or maybe a mini oven to heat something up. Swimming pool lovely and location really good, very close to the local attractions.
The 2 guys who worked in the bar Thomas and Eddie were a little strange, they were your best friends when you were spending money on drinks or food but if you came anywhere near the bar area and didn`t straight away order something, they were not happy and they will continually keep asking you if you want a drink, which was a little unfair when they had the tv screen near the bar area and you felt unable to watch it without buying drinks which by the way were so expensive, far dearer than the local bars in stallis.
Also Thomas is a football fan and often cancelled quiz nights ect if there was a game on and put it on the tv screen regardless if anyone wanted to watch it.One night when we were playing bingo,he decided to stop the game halfway through so that every one could watch the football, which only a friendly match and only about 3 people bothered to watch it.
Apart from all that Crete was lovely and if you take away the two idiots behind the bar so was the apartments.

"In June this year I will be returning to Rainbow Apartments for the third year running. I have been visiting Stalis, Crete for 17 years and this is by far the nicest hotel I have stayed in (hence my continued booking)
The rooms are clean and much better that most hotels in stalis. Some of them have microwave ovens, they also have a tv and also proper double glazed sliding doors (if you know crete you will know this is rare) Maria and the family and staff and extremely friendly and welcoming and will do anything to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Swimming pool is gorgeous - I usually go in June when there are not so many tourists and therefore the pool area is peaceful and quiet and you can really relax. They have internet facilities which is useful
There is a sweet little garden in the front and the rooms upstairs give a few of the sea which is about 5 minute walk over the main road.
If you want a real taste of Greek Cuisine, may I suggest that you try out Tsourlis Ouzerie which is next door to Rainbow (come out of the main gate, turn left and walk for 30 seconds - literally) you will find it tucked away. The food is BEAUTIFUL, not expensive and is open all year round because the Greeks tend to go there in the Winter as well as the summer.
As for drinking establishments... well Nemo Bar is nice. If you have small children, they do cater for them as they have mini golf and internet (not that you really want to be on the computer but its worth knowing). Also the beach is gorgeous.
Beachcomber is my favourite bar as well as Kings Head which is a bit of a walk from Rainbow but I do love it there too. Last July I had been unwell and in bed all day (not alcohol related) and felt the need for sustinence so George Vasilakis (the owner) made me a mug of tea and a plate of buttered toast!!! Such service!
All in all, you will have a lovely holiday... Stalis is a lovely place to be and although is now a lot more commercial than it was in 1993, it still retains a certain Cretan feel to it. Happy hols!

Wanna go back!! Yamas!!
"Me and my partner went here on our 1st holiday together. When we 1st arrived we thought 'oh no'as from the outside it looks a little dated, but we got around the back to the pool area and it was so lovely. The weather was 28/30 all week. It was in the perfect location, literally 5mins away from the fantastic beach, and the local restaurants. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, even giving us a free drink to welcome, always a plus!!
They held themed nights, and bingo is a must, free food, wine and a great way to meet new peeps there. The room was very basic, but you dont go on holiday to spend it in ur room, so we werent too bothered about it, our only critism was the bathroom.Clean but in serious need of update.
Our rep was lovely and we went to Spinalonga. A must. Oh and the water park is fantastic.
If your into clubbing, Malia is near/but also far enough away.THANK GOD. We gopt talking to many peeps who said we by far had the best beach. Overall we would say we had the best holiday ever. Cheap enough, hot enough. We went Paragliding at 4500ft, wicked and it only cost 80 euro for us both. My better half wants us too go back, but she`ll have to wait."

"i stayed for 4nights in these apartments. the view of the sea was fantastic but the room itself was a let-down. the bathroom was horrendous. The shower wasn't closed-off and the shower head was very moldy; so water sprayed all over the bathroom. i ended up using the tap to have my wash because the state of the shower head of dispicable. when the cleaners came in to clean the room, all she did was turn on the shower and literally spray the whole bathroom with water, soaking everything in sight (including the toilet).
The cleaners didn't change the bedsheets or towels either and when we complained to the staff, they were unresponsive and basically brushed off our complaints. Maria, the woman that owns the apartments, was rarely available and left 2 other men in charge instead. One old man listened to our complaints but did nothing to actually deal with them. The other man, the pool-bar worker, turned us away and treated us in a patronising manner...his answer to anything we said was that he can't help us with anything to do with the rooms and that it was pointless even talking to him. The problem was that maria left these two men in charge for the majority of the time and so we had no other choice!
the hotel is close to the beach and there are plenty of bars/restaurants there...but the staff at the hotel ruined our stay."

"Hotel was lovely & clean, very near Stalis, staff very friendly.
Went to BBQ night on Sunday and had a great time - 15 euros for all you can eat & free wine and Raki till late.
Get a superior room away from the road if you can as the traffic noise is fairly loud.
Greek restaurant across the road has lovely food - would highly recommend their greek night."

GREAT APARTMENTS AND STALIS IS LOVELY.....
"Stayed at the Rainbow apartments for 1 week. I went with 3 other ladies aged betweem 30 - 45. Stalis had all that we wanted, not too in your face and people not trying to get you into the bars etc. The resort itself is more for families and couples but we all had a ball with the locals and one night we ventured into Hersonnisos which was 10euros each way in a taxi. Its ok there but everyone hassles you and the drinks are a few euros more. We were paying roughly 3euros for a long drink like vodka/gin tonic in Stalis and in Hersonnisos you will pay anything from 5euros to 7 and its not always Gordons Gin or Smirnoff Vodka. We never ventured into Malia due to all the bad revues from the locals telling us that its full of 18-30's fighting and falling drunk in the streets....not our cup of tea...We found the pool area during the day very quite and far too hot so we all went to beach and paid 2euros for beds and a brolly...Its much cooler at the beach and the view is wonderful. We dont really have anything bad to say about the resort or the Rainbow apartments. The food and drinks are all very reasonable. There is a cocktail bar called Nemo and they do the best ever Mojitos and if you ask them to make them STRONG they do. Also please try The Village Pub on the main road on the right...... Demetris owns the bar and he plays 50's 60's and 70's music and all the locals call in and take in there mezze food and Demetris places it all on the bar for everyoneto help themselves....We had Strawberry's, Melon, Cherries, Local Cheeses, Bread and various other wonderful things that the locals either grew at home or cooked just to be friendly....His drinks are very cheap and he uses all the main branded spirits. Finally i must tell you of the best find ever....Over the main road from the Rainbow Apartment is a Greek Restaurant called Hellas Rooftop.... Nicos is the owner and he has all his family working there too. People come from all over just to eat there. Get in or book early as people que on the streets for a table. He also holds 2 Greek dancing and plate smashing evenings which i really recommed for that local Greek feel.....the food is to die for and our bill at the end of the evening was only 55 euros for 4 people....We were in there 3 hours and had 4 starters, 4 main meals and lots and lots of vino...please go, you wont be let down.
I have been to other Greek Islands but my opinion is that Crete is the best for the locals being the friendliest. You even walk down the streets and the owners of the shops and restaurants have laughs and jokes with you and they always remember your names despite you not being a customer of theirs. One evening Nicos the owner of the above restaurant called us over in a bar he was drinking in with the other locals after he'd closed his restaurant at the end of the night and bought us 2 rounds of drinks and he insisted not to let us buy him one back...
In all we had a great time and an all rounder great holiday....if you have any questions please email me at [email protected]
Hopefully, Going back next year......."
