Great place BUT is hilly.
"We have recently returned fron KONI VILLAGE in Oct 2011 and can honestly say that we enjoyed our time there.Yes the rooms are basic but are clean and tidy. There was myself and a toddler in a buggy and it was what I call a workout holiday due to the hilly entrance but I found it fine, for someone who has difficulty walking or in a wheelchair it would be more difficult.Although we went at the end of season there was no problem getting something decent to eat and places to visit.Room was 2 rings and fridge but we ate out so didn't need the rings, decent sized pool and a smaller 1 to the entrance of the property.Has a restaurant, bar and shop on site.A couple of places I would suggest visiting to eat by the beach in Stalis are Kalianas restaurant which has friendly staff, lovely selection of food, there are 2 parts to it - on opposite sides of the street and Dwyers Irish bar where you will always get a friendly welcome from Ronnie and staff and a fab deal with sun loungers, toasties for 7euros all day.If you are willing to jump on the local buses you can take yourself all over Crete such as Malia, Agios Nikolaos known locally as Ag Nik and has a wonderful bay to walk round.Spinalonga which is an historical place which contained lepersand you can either get a bus into Ag Nik and walk to the bay or book with your Rep.Star Beach is great for the children and can be reached by local bus. Nothing like what it looks like..
"For a start - it is NOT a holiday for families. The hill up there is not fun when you have to wheel and drag your cases up the MASSIVE hill which you don't even get help with. Then we found out that you have to pay 110 euros for the air conditioning - for 2 weeks - which was only in one bedroom so what we had to do was leave the bedroom door open so it would flow through into the other room. The stairs are a night mare. Rooms are very basic - you dont even get a toaster. You can't flush any toilet paper down the toilet because of the greek drains. Maids come in to clean 3 times a week and to be honest it coud be cleaner. Bed sheets had holes in them and the beds are very hard with thin pillows. I had to get up twice both times around 5 in the morning because of the young lads banging on the door due to being locked out. To be fair - you are only given one key per room however they hazd obviously come back from malia and were unaware that other people had ears and they banged the door down and woke me my mum my 73 year old nan and my 11 year old brother. We also had a load of girls playing music and basically shouting at eachother untill 2 in the morning and there were many complaints about other youngsters on the complex. For a plus note - the staff were very friendly and catered to your needs - the food was very nice and fairly reasonable. When we ate out you had to cross a very dangerous main road with quad bikes and motor bikes going at god knows what speet all over the road. The roads aren't lit very well either.
All in all, it was a basic holiday. The pool was a good size and there was always enough sunbeds - however it is more a young people's place to go rather than familes.
IF YOU HAVE FAMILES I RECOMMEND YOU DON'T GO HERE."

excellent facilities for couples
"me and my husband took a last minute break to koni village sept 19th for one week ,we found the staff very helpful, the stunning veiws from all apts brilliant, there are two older blocks and several new ones all seem to have sea veiws!
It is situated about 800mtres from the centre of stallis but there is a short cut through an underpass which we used frequently. There are plenty of excellent restaurants serving fresh foods both greek and english if preferred. The hospitality in all was fantastic. The complex is very hilly so not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties, the whole town was not busy as we went late in the season but still plenty open, lots of shops to browse and the beaches gorgeous."

Poor Service and be careful
"Have just returned from two week stay at Koni Village and have to say that the place was a complete dissapointment. The climb uphill into the complex is completely understated in any brochure and we would strongly recommend that anyone with a child buggy, young children or if you are elderly to avoid staying at this complex. We have also had a few incidents during our stay with poor cleaning standards, money taken from our apartment, children being shortchanged at the bar and staff that were not very friendly and we were not the only familiy staying there to have these problems. We found the reception was poor and when reports were made to the management they blamed our family members for taking the money. There have also been a series of "break in's" before we arrived at the complex but we were not informed. The Carcass of a dead cat had been left to rot behind the computer area at the bar even after staff were made aware of the problem. Perhaps the funniest thing of all is that although you are expected to not flush toilet roll down the toilet, you are expected to buy your own toilet paper for the privilege.
The only thing that we can recommend about this hotel is the pool and the resort is very good with great resturants like Anatolias, Maria's and Arthemis.

Brilliant holiday in Koni Village
"Just returned from a two week stay at Koni Village and would not hesitate to go back there again. Although kitchen facilities were very basic - just two cooking rings and a fridge -the apartments were very spacious and spotlessly clean. The main pool was large with loads of room around it and there were usually plenty of beds available throughout our stay - there was also the smaller quiet adult pool at the front of the property which was a relaxing retreat. The beach and main strip, with a fantastic choice of bars and restaurants, was about a 15 minute walk away so you can walk off all the fabulous meals! The Greek people were all very friendly and there was a lovely holiday atmosphere as we ambled along the beach road every night.
This was our first time in Crete and we would definately come back again. "

Koni village review 2010
"I stayed at Konin village this july, it is a very nice and clean place and all of the staff are nice and friendly, there are two pool one that is very quite and one that is more load, when i was there it was mixed with young lads/girls and a few couples there how ever more teenagers came through out the week during my stay. The Hotel is a 5-10 minute walk from the beach and the main village of stalis, stalis is a nice area but very quite and the night life is not as good as malia. Malia how ever has a great night life and is very very cheap! How ever it is a 15 minute walk into malia from Koni village or 7 ueros in a taxi.
All over Malia and stalis there are shops renting qauds, these are very cheap priced between 40-50 pound for a week and are suprisingly safe conmpared to what youn might have heard.
The two only problems i found with koni village is 1 that it is all up hill and unless your lucky and get a room near the bottom you are going to be walking up and down hill and stairs allot through out your stay, and 2 the hotel is right next to the main road which is a very dangerous road but there are side road to walk down.
The only thing that i was not happy with after staying at this hotel is that on the day that i was leaving the hotel charged me and my friends £50 for towels because they said that we had made them that dirty they can not be used again, how ever when we asked to see the towels they said that they had been thrown away, how ever we had to pay for them other wise we would not be aload on the coach to the airport.
Other than that i found koni village a very nice clean and friendly hotel to stay in and Malia is one of the best places i have ever been to experience night life and i had one of if not my best holiday there."

"Just got back from 2 weeks at Koni with my boyfriend who had never been abroad before. After reading some reviews we were a little worried about the high prices and "huge" hill, however we were pleasently supried. Yes, there was a hill but it was nothing to worry about unless you had real trouble walking. The restaurant and pool were lovely and the staff were really helpful. It was very clean and the rooms were large and kept clean aswell. The area of Stalis was very nice and had plenty of restaurants to choose from.
I would recommend this place to all types of people, young and old."

Can't wait to go back!
"Had an amazing time in Koni Village
The apartments were very clean and spacious, the staff were very friendly and happy to help.
We read reviews before we left and were conserned about the "Big Hill" which when we arrived found it to be not as bad as expected the only time there needs to be concern is when arriving and bringing up the suitcase.
As Koni is not on the main strip it is slightly more quiet and more relaxed, the main strip was just a short walk away when using the shortcut through the cactus beach hotel.
The swimming pool is very good and not overly chlorinated as it was treated at night when the pool was closed.
Great for all parties.
Would reccommend to anyone.

"I went with my boyfriend, both in our 20's, we booked Koni Village as it was the last available place, neither of us could settle into our holiday till we'd seen where we were staying and we were extremely pleased. Our apartment was large and clean with a big balcony and a gorgeous view of the coast. The hill walk up to the rooms isn't too bad but saying that our apartment was in the 400's (nearer the bottom of the hill) out of 1000 rooms. The pool area was great, huge pool, loads of sun beds available; there was also a smaller quieter pool which was great if u wanted to get away from the repetitive music of the pool bar/restaurant. The restaurant was ok we had breakfast there a lot but the dinner's arenât up to much compared to down the front. The highlight of the apartments was the evening bar run by Dimitri, the cocktails were brill with the full works of wedged fruit, cocktail umbrellas and sparklers, trust me I had a lot of them. The noise was the only downfall, we were told to be quite after 12am but the bar was open till 2 (which we didnât mind as we were rarely back before then) but then we had groups of people stand around at 4am talking as loud as possible grrrr. Suggested organised trips are Watercity and Spinalonga, going to star beach in Hersonissos was also good but expensive. Stalis is a great resort, it was my first time and I loved it, thereâs loads to do but you'll need a bit of spending money to do it all."

Far Too Noisy
"The apartments are really lovely and the staff are very pleasant, but avoid if you want a peaceful quiet holiday. We booked this holiday because the holiday rep told us that although it was near Malia it was very quiet and was good for families as all the young singles stayed in Malia. Well we never got a full nights sleep the whole time we were there. It's the first holiday we have had where by the end of the first week the wife said that she couldn't wait to get home. Maybe we were just unlucky but for the whole two weeks between 3.00AM and 6.00AM it was none stop groups of drunken youths both male and female causing mayhem as they made there way back to their rooms. You can complain to the management and they are very good at trying to sort it, but you have already lost another nights sleep and the next night it will be different groups causing trouble. As they only seem to stay for a week max you have a constant supply of new trouble arriving all during the week.
Also you really need Air Conditioning but this will cost you 55 Euros a week, so if you are on a budget bring extra money.
On a positive note the beach in Stalis is fantastic and the local restaurants and small Bars are very good. "

Not bad at all!
"Booked Koni Village because it was the last available apartment package in our price range, for our dates and with a direct flight to Crete (End of May 2009). So suffice to say, we weren't expecting much.
As it happened, we were very pleasantly surprised.
We had a friendly greeting and a got roomy third-floor one-room apartment just overlooking the site shop, and it was very nice indeed. Both bedroom and living room had large balconies, one facing the picturesque steep hills above Stalis, the other with a terrific sea view overlooking the town. Opening both balconies to let the breeze flow through was great (and an alternative to the widespread and barbaric practice of charging â¬8 a day for the air-con), and I enjoyed watching the cruise ships line up for the pre-dawn approach to Heraklion (early riser and 2 hours ahead!). All four beds were comfy, and the kitchenette was adequate, with a reasonable fridge and decent table. Never turned on the telly, so can't comment on that.
Very few negatives: The bathroom cleaning wasn't great during our stay, although it was okay when we arrived. The balcony furniture was flimsy and had seen better days. There was a bit of night noise from the old north-coast highway just north of the complex. A kids' playground area might have been handy. Oh, and of you're hiring a vehicle, the slope in the carpark has to be seen to be believed!
Greatly outweighed by the positives: the upper pool is good and large, with a nice little kids' pool and a good view, and we spent happy times there with our toddler (although beware: the pool surround and steps can be very slippy). The bar/eatery combo is a nice focus for the site, and both were friendly, clean and efficient - the sheer awfulness of the two outrageously warped outdoor pool tables gave us many hours of fun. The coin-op outdoor internet terminals were a first for me. The site shop was okay, and there are better bakeries and supermarkets a few minutes walk away. Stalis has a range of reasonable tourist tavernas, and is always fun, if not exactly, well, Cretan.
The walk under the main road and down to the main strip and beach wasn't more than 10 minutes, and the oft-mentioned climb back up was really no problem even though one of was six months pregnant and the other carrying a toddler.
We moved around the island a good bit during our holiday (if you can you really should - Crete is an incredible island), and stayed in several other places, but Koni Village measured up well. It's a good location, the whole place was well-maintained and all the staff welcoming, and I'd have no hesitation going back.

"Me (miss ingram) and my friends miss clunan, miss burton and miss walker stayed at koni for 2 weeks.
We loved the apartment that we stayed in, there was bags of room for the 4 of us and we had 2 balconies. The pool was ace during the day you could talk to everybody. Everyone including the staff was friendly and there was a security guard who was allways watching the complex at night he was there at 6 in the morning when we used to get in he allways told us to keep the noise down!!!. It is perfect as it was only a 10 minute walk from mailia and a 5 minute walk into stalis.
We enjoyed every minute of our stay and we will defo come back and visit very soon.
Brilliant holiday "
