Excellent family accommodation

"We've just returned from the best holiday ever staying at The Irilena Apartments. Irini and her family made us feel like part of their family. Even when we arrived at 4.30am after a delayed flight Irini and her mum were there to meet us with water and whatever we needed. Nothing was too much!

The apartments are large, bright and frequently well cleaned. Air-conditioning and room safe are available. There is free WiFi in public areas.

The superb pool varies from 1m to 2m and has plenty of sun beds, enough for everyone and if you like the sea that is only a few minutes walk away, with glorious hot sand and plenty of bars. The Irilena pool bar serves a variety of food including superb salads and other hot food. The specialty teas are great too. Irini's personality makes it a great place to spend a while. Food is even delivered to your apartment. Some apartments are available on the ground floor with disabled access. The pool area has disabled access but the pool bar does not.

There is plenty to do in Stalis, the nearest taverna is just 2 minutes away. There are dozens more within a few more minutes. The main bus stop is only 2 minutes away too. If you need supermarkets there is one just a couple of minutes walk away with many more in the town. Of course there are dozens of superb shops as well. Irilena apartments are away from the noise of the town making it easy to sleep off the excesses of the night before.

If you want to see Cretan hospitality at its best then I recommend Irilena Apartments. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is a family business and it shows that they care. You will certainly feel like one of the family.

We didn't want to leave and will be back next year. "

"I have just spend two weeks in the Irelena II apartmentst in Stallis and found them to be very clean and well looked after. Steve the handyman was friendly and always available and took great pride in his work.

The family apartments were well run and had all you need for an excellent holiday in Stallis.

This is our 4th time in Stallis and the 1st time I have stayed in these apartments and we will definately go back there.

We went to a great wee taverna "Minos" and I can recommend the food as being first class.

Thanks again to Maria and her family for a lovely holiday in their apartments.

See you next year."

Myself and my partner have just returned...

"Myself and my partner have just returned from a fab holiday in Stalis, Crete. We booked our holiday last minute and we stayed at Irelina 1 apartments.

Having looked at reviews before we went, I found there were few around and was unsure as to what to expect when we arrived.

The apartment was very basic, however it was clean. The maid came in to our room twice in our one week stay to clean, and change the sheets and towels.

The Irelena has its own pool, which to be honest we did not go round, it looked very well maintained though and was very quiet during the day.

The rooms are fitted with air conditioning, however you have to pay to use it. We didn't need it, as it has started to cool in Crete in Sept, I think it is about 7 euros/day.

Our only complaint, if you can be sad enough to moan about it, was the fact that they only give you 1 toilet roll for the entire stay! Its not a problem, you can buy them from the supermarket for about 85 cent (50p!).

We had no problem with our tour operator, Kosmar, our transfers from the airport took approx 1 hr, they gave us lots of information about the resort and were easy accessible should you require them. If you are travelling with Kosmar, make sure your ready and waiting earlier that they say for your return transfer to the airport. Our coach arrived 15 mins early, and at another hotel, guests were late and so the coach actually went without them! oops!!

Other than that, Stalis is a perfect resort. Its in between Malia and Hersonnisos and is just packed with rows of restaurants, bars and shops. Its a far cry from the madness of Malia, and is more traditional than Hersonisoss which is very cosmopolitan. An ideal place for families and couples, and is just a short taxi ride to Malia if you want night-life which goes into the early hours.

The beach is lovely, and its about 6euro for 2 sunbeds, and with that if your on a patch which belongs to a restaurant, they will wait on you while you soak up the sun. What more do you need (keep an eye out for the doughnut man, they're lovely!).

There is plenty to do on the beach, there's watersports galore, and I must comment on the tremendous waves that we had. I've been to Crete twice and both times, have experienced brilliant waves about 8ft high at times. Not great for little kids, but most people seemed to be enjoying them! We did!

Anyway, we had a great time. No complaints from us. Our accomodation was basic, but in Greece, its not often you get more than basic. "

"We went to this lovely hotel for the month and had a lovely time.

We stayed the previous two years and shall be going again this year 07, and we have already booked.

Every year gets better, the staff are brilliant, Slav as always looks after you very well, the family are lovely they will always help you no matter what the problem maybe.

I don’t understand people's views of this lovely hotel, ok its basic but most of Greece is, the rooms are beautifully clean, air con for a small fee.

The bar well stocked. 2 minutes from the night life but just tucked away so you get a good nights kip as well.

Great clean pool, I could go on but why not see for yourself, to be honest we wouldn’t go back every year if it was a dump.

It’s wonderful. Have a great time. "

Went to Crete for a girl’s holiday in...

"Went to Crete for a girl’s holiday in the summer. Was our first holiday alone so didn't know what to expect.

We stopped in Stalis rather than Malia as we wanted some sleep; this was our first mistake. I would definitely recommend stopping in the centre of the action if partying is what you’re after.

The apartments, Irelena 2, were, well... not the best or the cheapest. However, the aircon worked (at a price) and we had a safe.

The pool was tiny and the pool area even smaller, so we went to the beach everyday, only a short walk!

We stopped a week and only had clean bed linen and towels once, which I wasn't too impressed with. Also, the actual site of the hotel was very urbanised; no nice scenery of mountains like in the brochures.

All in all, a good holiday but very expensive. If you are stopping in Stalis I would definitely recommend The Artemis restaurant, those guys were brilliant and the food was delicious, also available is a mighty nice English fry-up, which we had every morning.

So... I would recommend Crete for a fun-filled holiday (not to mention the sun!) but I wouldn't recommend the Irelena apartments!"

Basic, clean apartments. Just what you w...

"Basic, clean apartments. Just what you want to rest your head after a hard day being a tourist. My two children and I came here in May 2003 and enjoyed it so much that on our return to England we booked for last year and managed to get the same room! Having a pool just for Irelena 1 and 2 makes a big difference. Totally agree about Steve very charming and helpful, even remembered us from the year before. George and Angie who run the Ansi bar are well worth visiting and are really friendly and speak good English. Have a ride on the Happy Train either to Malia or Hersonnisos, do visit the ceramic shop just past Star Beach you can pick up some good bargains.

Food choice in Stalis is unbelievable, you name it they have it. The Royal Oak is a very English pub, if you stay for 2 weeks you stand a very good chance of winning the nightly quiz. All in all a very good resort, trying to book for this year."

We stayed here in 2002 and had such a go...

"We stayed here in 2002 and had such a good time that we went back to celebrate my 40th - and took my parents too - we knew they would like it just as much.

The only drawback was the flight times - quite late at night - therefore a bit tiring.

The apartments we had both times were huge - mum and dads a bit smaller than ours but still plently of room.

The pool is immaculate and kept very clean - with a small pool bar offering drinks and snacks during the day.

The location is ideal - down a small (lit) track but less than five minutes from the beach and the main beach road. So it's very handy - but also nice and quiet - no traffic noice!.

Supermarket at the end of the track - taverna next door - and a nicer taverna (Katerinas - excellent) just at the end of the track too.

Stalis seems to have everything you could want in a resort. If you want English pubs (?) there are some - there are also loads of other bars - everything from pub style - to small cocktail bars.

All sorts of restaurants from traditional Greek to Chinese - with everything in between.

The beach is also a very good one - the sun lounge operators really look after you - they even hose the sand with water so you don't burn your little toes on the way into the sea!

Would love to go again - we met friends who were on honeymoon at the other end of the resort - and they have booked for the Irelena II for their next holiday.

I think the difference in I & II is that II had air conditioning - paid locally. This may have changed since our visit.

On the whole - great location - great apartments!

Hope anyone who goes enjoys it as much as we did."

"Just yesterday, I left the Irelena II apartments and already I have booked to go back next year.

This is an excellent apartment, lovely large rooms, and air conditioning. The pool is kept nice and clean. The guy who runs it, Slav, (or Steve as most people call him) keeps everything tidy and in order. He is excellent, anything you want he will try his best to do it. The corridors echo a bit so if coming in late, everyone already in can hear everything you say.

The resort of Stalis itself is very laid back and easy going, although if you would prefer more hustle and bustle, Hersonnisos and Malia are very easy to get to.

Restaurants in Stalis serve very nice food. The Chicken House and the Mexican place next it are both excellent, myself I prefer the Shalimar Indian restaurant. I never walked away still hungry. The locals are friendly, and everything you need is available.

Day trips are nice and cheap (as is the whole resort), for the best deal book through one of the many travel agents in town rather than through the holiday company. If you would like to experience a Greek Night, there is an excellent one in a little Mountain Village called Mohos. It is free to watch the Greek dancing, which takes place in the village square, you just have to find a taverna and pay for your meal. There is a local bus that goes to Mohos, the fare is around 1 euro, and you catch the bus on beach road outside the anthoussa hotel. It is a very good night.

Overall, this resort is excellent, and as I said, I have already booked for next August. It is definitely recommended."

Myself and 5 friends went to Stalis this...

"Myself and 5 friends went to Stalis this summer and had an amazing time!!! The apartments are spacious and airy, although air conditioning and safety deposit boxes have to come out of your own pocket so make sure you have money put aside, we were on the ground floor (Rm18) which is at the back of the building so we were in the shade, my friends didn’t bother with the air condition but it was too hot for me so we paid 60 euros for 2 weeks and the safety deposit boxes were 7.50 euros. We split it between the four of us and it was fine.

The pool is cleaned every night and is big enough to lounge around, lilos are provided but its only 3 euros if you want your own, they’re great for catching a tan...

The first three days were the longest probably because of the lack of sleep, Kosmar fly out at about midnight usually, there are day flights but you pay extra. So you arrive at about 6am Crete time. The airport is a bit of a joke, there’s no computers telling you where to collect your luggage so keep your eyes peeled. This was my first sunshine holiday so I didn’t really know what to expect , my advice to anyone in my position is you might hate it at first but give it chance, you won’t be use to the climate and the Greeks don’t rush anything, it's a much slower pace of life compared to what your use to but you will enjoy it, i promise...

For night life, it has plenty of restaurants and tavernas along beach road, its a main strip about a mile1/2 long give or take a few meters. There are a lot of couples and families about and its a far cry from the clubbing capital of this year which was Malia, if your looking for clubs and music and just basic party central, Malia is the place to be, thankfully Stalis hasn’t been ruined by tourists too much and you can still appreciate the way Greeks live. We often went to Creta Restaurant, serving a collection of foods both English and Greek foods. We got to know the owners well, Martha and Michael are very friendly and there son Liam (Lefteris) will see to your every need, along with Ellias, beware these to are a pair together and will really make you smile. (practical jokers)!!

Bar bliss and the Bliss pub which are next door and in front of Creta, watch out for Billy who’ll charm the birds out of the trees, i had him down on his knees begging us to go in for a drink, but you’ll get use to it. These are the lively places to go and are open until about 3-4am apart from that though Stalis shuts down at about 12:30, although they won’t kick you out, if you keep spending they’ll stay open. There is one bar called 'On the rocks' which is opened 24hrs but hardly anyone goes to it, is by the beach, hence the name.

We enjoyed it so much were going back next year. So if you have liked what you’ve heard and seen then chose Stalis!

Who knows we might see you next year. We’ll be the 4 Girls in Creta sat in the corner probably winding up Liam and Ellias, don’t worry there well able for it...
