Late September Holiday at the El Greco soon to be named The White Palace
"We recently stayed in EL Greco Hotel Crete for two weeks. We found the rooms were in need of a updating also the bathroom looked tired & in need of refurbishment but was always kept very clean . They were really spacious with a large balcony. The food was excellent with a good choice of food to suit everyone, although the second week there was not so much choice. It might have been to do with the fact they soon close on 25th October &running down their supplies! Also I would like to point out when the hotel is full there isn't enough sun beds &umbrellas around the main pool we had trouble getting sun beds the first week we were there. Also there is a lot of marble tiles on the floor arrears & I slipped on the mat which was on the tiles just up some steps from the beach (after I'd rinsed the sand off my feet) &fell over banging my knee on the solid floor ! There are signs up all over the place saying wet floors but that doesn't stop you falling over its so slippery! The view from the pools dinning room & lounges are breath taking Staff are very friendly &helpful making your time there special. The sandy beach isn't very big & the sea was quite choppy all the time we were there,so not really a beach Holiday having said that it's great value for all inclusive hotel. It will make a difference when all of the hotel has been refitted but I expect the price will go up & and we paid quite a bit to go on 24th September 2014 ."

We have just returned from 1 weeks holid...
"We have just returned from 1 weeks holiday, at the El Greco Hotel in Crete. What can i say, but what a fantastic hotel !! From the moment we arrived, the hotel staff were friendly, cheerful, helpful and attentive. The rooms are clean, and well kept, the food is always fresh, well presented, and varied. The staff, are the best i have ever experienced. The pool areas are clean , and there are plenty of sunbeds, well spread out. The hotel is situated right on the beach, and there are grassy areas you can also sunbathe on, with beds, and sun shades readily available. Although there is not much directly outside of the hotel, there are plenty of shops/bars restuarants etc a short bus/taxi ride away. The only disappointment was the evening entertainment, out of 6 nights, i would say only 2 were worth watching, but, even so, it would not put me off returning."

"My parents stayed at this hotel every year for 25 years, couldn't understand why until recently when I stayed there. After 2 weeks I really could not find one fault with this hotel. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful, rooms very comfortable and clean, the food excellent with plenty of choice. Had not intended to stay in the hotel in the evenings for the entertainment but did most evenings and found it enjoyable. The entertainment team were great obviously worked very hard to provide a few really fun evenings. My father passed away in April so unfortunately didn't make it this year to the El Greco but I'm sure I will now be keeping up the family tradition, in fact have already booked for October and can't wait."

If your idea of a good holiday is being ...
"If your idea of a good holiday is being in a hotel with loads of Brits, then don't book the El Greco, as there is a huge mix of nationalities, but when we were there mainly Eastern European and German. If however you are open minded enough to actually mix with foreigners on your foreign holiday (!) then this hotel has a lot to offer. Fabulous pool area which never really felt too crowded and then straight down to the beach where sunloungers are provided free. Food was fine - standard hotel buffet style with some Greek specialities if you chose to experiment. The hotel snack bar which is open for lunch was very good - not cheap (as normal in a hotel) but tasty and big portions. For me the standout was the service which in all areas of the hotel was second to none - I work in tourism and have travelled a lot but rarely do you find staff that seem so genuinely friendly and efficient. Drawbacks? Some of the public areas looked a bit worn, so maybe time to invest in a refurbishment. The hotel is quite a long way from any resort centre, but there is a regular bus service costing 1.20⬠down to the town so itâs quite cheap and easy to get out and about. The hotel entertainment was truly dire - not even funny dire, just painful. Overall though, a really great hotel to visit either as a couple or for a family holiday."

"thomson 5T possibly - 3 star anywhere else staff superb food good but never changes much eating times are like a rugby scrum kids everywhere with hot tea and soup etc passing over their heads, dangerous bed broke first night no sleep-repaired bed broke second night no sleep-repaired bed changed third night beds are like concrete, second mattress supplied sea water pools ok-but hard on the eyes entertainment is rubbish; syncronised swimming, caberet mimed by the staff, stupid jugglers, kids entertainment other nights. only found 3 other couples that spoke english, hotel is geared up for europeans ( germans poles etc) never been away before and hardly spoke a word, they all seemed friendly but no conversation. kids everywhere- i would never use this hotel again"

Bed broke 1st night, no sleep, repaired....
"Bed broke 1st night, no sleep, repaired. Bed broke second night, no sleep. Changed bed. Quality 5 T hotels do not have the mattress on wooden slats like a students bed Food is good but it hardly ever changes. Pool is good. Entertainment is terrible kids shows, synchro swimming kids shows light show etc. If I knew the whole hotel was filled with non English speaking guests I would not have booked. There are only 3 English couples on the whole of the complex. Staff are superb but when you talk to them very few can talk in English. I do not like being told to put toilet paper in a bin in the bathroom. There is no way this is a 5T hotel, we stayed in the George in Cyprus that was a good 4T. "

A friendly, relaxed hotel
"Having just returned from a 2 week holiday in El Greco, myself and my husband wanted to say what a lovely time we had and to recommend it to others. The staff and entertainment team in particular, are brilliant. They work extremely hard and were genuinely friendly to all guests. The only thing against the hotel is its remote location. Although the town is only a bus ride away, it's worth a mention as it could put people off. As for us, we had a relaxing break and will be sure to visit another hotel in the Grecotel chain in the future."

Simply the best
"The El Greco is a suberb hotel. It has the very highest standards of cleanliness. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the food is just wonderful! The only downside to the hotel is its lack of indoor pool ( we had two days of rain and families would have enjoyed an indoor facillity). We really feel as if we have had two weeks of absolute pampering. Thank you El Greco."

Excellent hotel, friendly and efficient staff
"Just returned from 2 week stay at this hotel in June 2005. Hotel decor a little understated, not the usual glitzy appeal, but don't let this fool you. Staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble. Food is very cosmopolitan and quite good, though sometimes a little to salty for my palate. Hotel is right on a small sandy shingly beach, bit hot underfoot with a few sunbeds and umbrellas. Main pool does tend to be a bit noisy during day, but there are sun terraces to escape from this, providing you get your towel out early enough!! Excellent self service restaurant for lunchtime, reasonably priced with good choice of salads or hot meals. On bus route to Reythmnon, about 25 minutes drive away. Otherwise nothing worth a mention in the immediate vicinity, so if not a beach babe hire a car."

El Greco Delights
"We ( my partner and two children aged 4ys and 10mth little girl) have just returned from the El Greco, and have to say we had a lovely holiday. The hotel is much bigger than expected, holding about 1000 rooms. Only draw back was we had a long walk from the room to the restaurants, reception and evening entertainment, but kept off the pounds we put on with all those deserts! Food was good with lots of choice but be warned they like their sea salt on everything! They were happy to puree food for baby, but watch salt content! Also no kettle in room for hot water for baby bottles, had to ask everynight to get a thermos filled. They also had a " tasty corner" where children ate free all day, and free ice creams for them too. Staff were very friendly but busy! Evening entertainment was however something of a bizarre show. The childrens reps doubled up as showmen and women nearly everynight, with shows mostly in german or mime and quite strange, however they tried so hard to please, it is hard to knock them. You can walk to other places at night if you wanted to, although the town is a good 20min taxi ride at 8 euros. We had a fab room requesting a sea view, we were on ground floor and from the room we had a grass patio with our own sunchairs on, then a massive pool and then the beach! The beach was somewhat narrow, but nice and clean, as were the rooms and hotel. On the hole we were pleased with our choice, and a visit to little "venice" Chania is well worth it if you like sophisticated shopping, as is rethymynon."
