"We stayed at the royal heights for 2 weeks at the end of august 2010. It is a fantastic hotel in every way. The staff were all lovely, friendly and helpful. The food was exceptional, The cleanliness was 1st class. On our arrival we were met by Michael who was a wonderful man who upgraded us for our 30th wedding anniversary to a 2 bedroom villa with our own pool, garden, spa bath etc, I'm sure it was their top villa, We felt like royalty for our whole stay. It is up a mountain so the views are fantastic, we did walk down a couple of times and got cabs back but in the end we hired mopeds which was fine. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for luxury, peace, (Even though its in Malia) chilling out is the understatement, we cant wait to go back. Many Thanks to Michael and Julia for making our time at your hotel special.x.x"

Fab hotel to stay!
"Just came back from Malia, me and my husband booked a last minute deal to Malia staying at the Royal Heights Resort for a week and what a lovely last minute deal it was! We were upgraded to a 2 floors villa for free the moment we arrived as they were double booked. The villa itself is so so so lovely, clean and spacious. We also had our own private pool (not that the main pool was busy at all!). Each day the maids came and cleaned the villa and it is spotless. Becasue of its location (top of mountain but great view!), you will have to get a taxi down to Malia town and is standard cost of â¬8 one way even though is 2 mins drive. That put us off from going into Malia town so we have dinner every night at the restaurant. There were so many choices and the food were absolutely amazing. The look and taste of them were fab! The staff were always polite and every night we were given a free dessert and a shot :) The spa was equally good, really nice treatments we had and not too expensive at all, very worth it. Overall, we had a fantastic time staying at this hotel."

Location, location, location!
"After a 5 hour delay flying out from Bristol and feeling slightly jaded and disappointed at missing our first night in Crete, Julia the receptionist soon got our holiday back on track. Julia and Michael, who we met the next morning, were both extremely friendly and and helpful throughout our stay, as were all the staff. Royal Heights Resort is a superb complex nestling high above Malia with really amazing views that you will never forget. The Spa and gym facilities are well equipped but we ourselves didn't use them as we were just there for a "chill out" on our 25th wedding anniversary. We spent a lot of time relaxing by our private pool and also had 3 days car hire to explore some of the island. We had a lovely relaxing time and would love to return."

"With the exception of one annoying problem the hotel was as close to perfect. The staff were fantastic, great service, the restaurant service and food was awesome, the facilities brilliant., the pool area is fantastic and the gym excellent. The room was modern, spacious and clean. The only disappointing item, and it really undermines all the great aspects of this hotel, is that there is an open policy to using the pool. In the afternoon many of the English bar workers in Malia come up to use the pool. The language is very colourful and many of the kids were intimidated with so many youths using the pool. It really spoils an otherwise fantastic hotel."

Heavenly Heights (above the hell of Malia!)
"Just come back from staying at this resort with my sister (im 34, shes 27) and we loved it! We booked through travel republic and got a last minute (ish - 3 weeks before) deal and stayed in one of the appartments on a bed and breakfast basis. The staff were really friendly (Julia, teacher by day, receptionist by night!) was lovely. Hotel breakfasts were great with a huge variety of cereals, fruits, yoghurt, cheese, meat, breads and cooked foods such as bacon, potatos etc, There was also a pancake and omlette chef. Rooms were really clean and looked imaculate as if they had just been built! Pool was large and as it was 38 degrees when we were there, sooo nice to dip in and out of during the day. I think it must be promoted in Malia as the place to go as most days a few groups used the pool and loungers. There were still plenty of sun beds available and this actually created a nicer atmosphere as due to the villas having their own pools, the main pool is more than ample for the amount of appartments there are and it may have been slightly too quiet if this hadnt happened. Views were amazing across all of Malia town, on to Stalis and out to the sea. We didnt venture into Malia as we are not part of the awful brits abroad brigade but it was easy to avoid this and head to Stalis for an evening instead so dont let this put you off. We stayed in the hotel two nights and ate on the balcony restaurant where we were given a free dessert each time :-) We did have a problem with the air con whereby if you didnt leave the "key" in the electric slot for 15 mins after the air con was turned off, it leaked water out of a light socket! It sounds silly but even this didnt put a dampner on our thoughts of the hotel! By the way, the hotel is at the top of a VERY steep hill and you will need to pay for a taxi down to Malia/Stalis/Beach and this will cost you about 7 or 8 euros (regardless of the fact its only a 2 min drive!). It is possible to walk it but you have to go past some dogs tied up to trees in the olive groves who bark madly when you do - they are tied up as i said but it can be a bit scarey. Either than or hire a quad bike for a few days (although ours could only take one of us rather than the two it should do as the hill was so steep during the final section that it just stopped dead and my sister had to get off and walk!!!) And talking of quad bikes , , , , I would say DONT use Hermes for renting quad bikes etc - they are an horrendous rip off and not nice people. For trips, i would definitely recommend the sunset horse-riding in the mountains near Heraklion where we stopped off half way to enjoy bunches of grapes from a vineyard and free Raki and returned to a greek style family dinner around a large table with meatballs, stuffed tomatos, pork kebabs and lots of wine. All in all, we loved the hotel and would definitely recommend it."
