"This is one of the best hotels we have stayed at on any of the Greek Islands. The owners are friendly and very helpful, the staff are superb. The location is great, with several very good Taverna's close by.

Chania is only 30 minutes away by car.

The pool area is very nice with lots of sun loungers and a great bar.

The beach is a short walk away, however it is pebbled and noy really suitable for children

I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet break. Night life is however just down the road at Platanias.

"The Kastalia apartments are beautiful. They are spotlessly clean and the maid comes in every day to clean. The gardens are amazing and are well looked after (so are the cats that wonder around as well!). Our apartment was big enough for the four of us the only down side was that the sofa beds were not very comfortable and we could have done with a toaster or grill.

If you like quiet holidays and just want to soak up the sun then these apartments are for you. You would struggle if you had teenage children as there is very little to see and do in Kamasiana but there is a very good bus service that will take you into more livelier resorts nearby. The handful of tavernas nearby are nice and all serve the same food. One good thing is that they all serve Raki after you have eaten (its like petrol but it soon puts you in a good mood)! One taverna that was especially good was "Michaels" down near the beach. We went here several times and always got a friendly welcome. The food was great and the dish of fresh fruit served after the meal was delicious.

Overall I would recommend these apartments to anyone seeking peace and tranquillity, and anybody with young children would certainly benefit. "

"These apartments are family run and really well kept and are definitely worth a visit.

Look out for the cats, they look after them really well.

There is no restaurant just snacks which are okay not badly priced. There are not many restaurants around and most serve the same food, but you only have to go a bus ride away to get everything you need.

The bus service is very good. The beach is not up to much, full of pebbles and not very pretty, but it is so nice and relaxing by the pool you don’t need the beach anyway.

I would highly recommend these apartments and would like to return at some stage, they do great cocktails too."

"Not what we expect from Thomson after many years of holidaying with them in Greece. We were fobbed off with an apartment in an annex across the road and not set within the beautiful gardens.

We didn't accept it. After a long wait, we were offered a small apartment in the main complex, which was not up to the standard we have come to expect of Thomson, and the Thomson rep didn't seem to think it was a problem.

OK, we got chocs and wine for our trouble and that was nice. But, but, but - we had to continually ask for toilet paper as this was never replenished automatically. The apartment was cleaned only 3 times in the whole fortnight and each of these occasions was after having to ask, more than once and still wait a couple of days after asking.

Not very nice. But Manos the barman was great, and the location was wonderful. The eating places around were god if a little lacking in imagination. Pity the menu was so limited on site as sometimes it would have been nice not to have to go out.

Won't travel with Thomson again for the foreseeable future. 8 months later and we're still awaiting a response to our written complaint.

"When we first arrived the apartments were fantastic but we were disappointed with the location.

There were just a few restaurants and it meant a bus ride to the next town. We like to be near everything but the bus service was very frequent and we found it really easy.

The apartments are family run and the family are really nice and make everyone feel at home. They look after the stray cats even feeding them in winter.

The place is spotless, the pool is fantastic. If you want a nice relaxing holiday with a nice atmosphere then this is the place. They even sent us a Christmas card!

Will definitely return at some point."

"Wel what a lovely, lovely place. All the apartments and studios are surrounded by a beautiful, very well kept garden. The favourite aspect of the holiday was the fact its so relaxed there, quiet and peaceful. The Kastalia is family run and what a lovely family. Always there to help if needed.

There are a few really good tavernas locally, or you can jump on a bus right out side and head off into Platinous where you will find an amazing Chinese restaurant called Chin Chin! While here you will also have to try a Crepe with Strawberry ice-cream on. (WOW. I have never tasted anything quite like it. Lovely)

The pool area is fantastic, lots of sun beds for sun soakers! There is also a very large pool and a smaller one and then one for children, great for when you get too hot!!

The pool side bar is also great, especially the bar staff, very friendly and funny!

The beach is about a 5min walk away, its a pebble beach but very nice.

All in all we had an amazing holiday, would definitely recommend to anyone and would return.

"My family and I have been visiting Kamissiana on and off since the children were small, interspersed with holidays on other Greek islands, but we always feel that we are coming home when we pull up at Kastalia.

The stunning gardens are second to none, and the family welcome you with open arms. I love watching Mrs Markoulaki on her morning walk with the gardener instructing him on which bush to prune or flower bed to weed! The rest of the family are always around and you feel you are guests in their home.

The apartments are spotlessly clean and the pools are crystal clear.
We haven't been for 4 years but are looking forward to our return this year in August. All the restaurants are excellent, especially Michaelis's on the beach road, I hope he and Yannis (his son) are still there serving Mum's home cooked food. It will be certainly our first stop. If you want a holiday full of discos this is not the resort for you, but Platanias is a short bus ride down the coast for more livelier nightlife.

The beach is pebbly but empty and the views of Kolumbari are stunning. Hopefully I'll see you there!"

"Fantastic in every way!

Clean, comfortable accommodation set in a tranquil complex with beautiful gardens. Friendly, family run apartments with exceptional service and hospitality.

Facilities include a bar/restaurant (superb cocktails!), an immaculate swimming pool, tennis court, children's play area and only a short stroll to the local beach. Hire a car and drive off to discover some of the most amazing scenery and beaches ever.

There are plenty of tavernas nearby offering a wide selection of traditional Greek dishes, always a warm greeting awaits you and usually a complimentary shot of a potent liqueur with the owner.

The quiet village of Kamisiana has that off-the-beaten track feel yet you are only a short bus ride away from the bustling town of Platanias (particularly if you fancy some lively nightlife) or Chania, if you are seeking something more cultural and full of old world charm.
Would highly recommend Kastalia and can't wait to return!

"I doubt if anyone could fault these apartments, from the gardens, swimming pool(s),pool bar etc.

Family run in every sense, the Markoylakis family go out of their way to ensure everyone has a memorable holiday.

I have been staying there for many years and see the same old faces returning year in and out, not just British either.

The village itself is quite, no discos or themed bars, perfect bliss if you want a relaxing time, however, for the livelier ones, Platanias and Chania are easily reached by bus or taxi.
There is an abundance of local tavernas, none of which I can recommend as they are all excellent, don’t take my word for it either, then again, you can always dine at Kastalia itself, again, superb food.

The rooms at Kastalia are spotless and remain so for the entire holiday, maid service 6 days a week and they don’t miss a thing, even beneath the beds are swept!
I am hoping to get back again this year to meet the many locals, some of whom are real characters. If you want to experience a little bit of real Cretan hospitality, this is the place to stay.
