Mixed feelings

"Location: the hotel is situated in a small village, however, you can get there almost all you want: rent a car, buy souvenirs, enjoy Greek tavern and stare at local people (but don't expect vivid night life here). 21km to Heraklion, 4 - to Hersonissos. The hotel has its own beach with free equipment , but it's too tiny. Better go to the left and you'll find a better one - clean, nice and sandy - and lie on your own towel.
Hotel territory: large, clean and picturesque. plenty of flowers and palms, with three large swimming-pools (depth: 0,3m-1,65 m).
Public: (in descending order) Polish families with children (this summer the hotel has Polish animation team), French old couples, Russians, English.
Staff: reception - very friendly (!), English\Russian\Polish-speaking. They'll take you and your luggage on a golf-car and deliver to the room:) Restaurant waiters are also friendly, some a bit annoying but if you do not react they'll leave you alone. Warning: sometimes different managers give you different answers: check things twice if you hesitate (I asked, if I could swim in the pool in the evening and was told that I could until 1PM that was quite strange, then I asked the reception they told that the pool was closing at 8PM).
Rooms: standard rooms are not quite large, however, clean and quite cosy with nice chairs and table in the balcony. Not a 5* standard: no tea\coffee devices, refrigerator works only on warming things but not cooling. there's no electricity when you leave the room, so be prepared to come to a hot room in the afternoon (it takes pretty much time to cool - a bit - the room). When we came our douche was out of order, however, it was fixed after I had asked the reception for 2 times. The main building is a nice place to spend hot afternoons - it's lobby is cool, there are several terraces with nice view.
Rooms are quite clean, however, it depends on maids, I think. Our towels were changed only on the 4th day of stay (but then changed 1 time in 2 days). bath-gel and shampoo were never changed (we stayed for a week). No hair conditioner, no bathrobes and slippers. No internet in rooms, you can have it only in lobby (if you have a notebook, for 20Euro a week)
Meals: sea food night once a week; the choice is quite large (however, fruits are only : peach, water-melons, oranges, apples, kiwis). If you stay for a week the choice is OK, however, by the end of the week breakfast can be annoying a bit - you have to mix old things to get something new=))

Recommend: for families with small children (in Stella Village they have a nice tiny 'aqua park'); however, didn't see kids menu (you'd better check it in advance), old couples
Not recommend: for romantic holidays (it's better to choose something more private, for example, Blue Palace)."

Not like the brochure, lots of room for improvement!

"Our family holiday at the Stella Palace Hotel was probably the most disappointing holiday we have ever had. It isn't the four star Thomas cook holiday that we were expecting, more like a three. The web page is deceiving it shows a lovely display of prawns and we didn't see a single prawn all week. The maincourse food in the restaurant was cold, even when we made sure that we were the first people in at 7pm, the restaurant manager advised me to use the microwave. The shower head wasn't connected to the wall, no bin in the room for general rubbish. The flower beds were mainly weeds, the whole week we were there I didn't see anyone cleaning the pool."

"Reception - some people very helpfull, others less ... all guys very helpfull -> Lack of possibility to extend room earlier than a few hours before check out is very unconvinient !
Main Restaurant - Some waiters very helpfull, but others serving very automaticaly.
Mini Club - it's open for 5 hours a day and full closed out of the hours. It should be open out of the hours without animators.
The supervisor of "Elia" Restaurant A La Carte proved a high level of hospitality and also the reception manager was very helpfull and understandfull."

3 star hotel with unflexible service

Poor

"We were there for 7 days in June having All Inclusive package.
there is no a la cart restaurant - it's fixed menu
free drinks are of terrible quality
food is pretty awful - any local tavern is so much better choice
they have "live cooking show" - some kitchen apprentice is baking pizza in electric oven
beach is too small and crowded
service is really bad for a 5* hotel - we couldn't get lunch packet because we didn't order it the day before; OK but they couldn't give us a bottle of water either, because "they can't do that"
there is no free internet in a 5* hotel
air condition is centrally regulated
one positive thing - rooms were clean
but we got bath gel& shampoo refill only once in a 7 days
the people who are running the hotel are economy wizzards they are saving on everything
airplane route is just over the hotel and the airport is only 5km away - good thing for airplane watchers ;)

Not recommended!"

"My wife and I took one of our grandchildren on holiday to this hotel for 2 weeks on an all inclusive basis from the end of May 2010 to 10th June.
On arrival we were the only three people checking in the staff were very pleasant and attentive but failed to spot that I had emailed the day before requesting a ground floor room by the pool but when I mentioned this they selected a differant room and then loaded our cases onto a golf buggy and took us to our room, all vey nice. They also gave us a sheet of paper which detailed meal times and bar times etc. The layout of the hotel in very nice and the rooms are clean but not upto 5 star standard as you would expect, no coffe or tea making facilities, old style TV's.
Unfortunately the times that the three bars were open did not agree wth the information we were given by the hotel. There are two pools each of which has a pool bar these were (so the info sheet said) open from 10.00am to 11.00pm for all inclusive drinks after 11.00pm you would have to pay. Only one of these was open after 7.00pm at night. There is a wonderfull piano bar in the main hotel building that was supposed to be open from 5.00pm to midnight we only found it open on two occasions and at this bar you have to pay for everything.
Like one of the other contributors we were asked if we wanted to go the a greek night at the Stella Village which is attacd to the Stella Palace for an additionl charge of 47 euro for all three of us. So we paid no body mentioned that the only drinks we could get was wine or beer, my wife went to the bar to get a drink and was told no you are in the Stella Palace this is the Village, now I'm not being picky but if they put on Greek Night which you've paid extra for on top of your all inclusive and the Stella Village is attached to the Stella Palace and owned by the same people why can you not get the same drinks ???? had this been made clear we would have just gone to dinner as normal and then gone on to the only bar open and had the drinks we wanted.
The restaurant is nice, clean with some tables outside, however the food whilst good was almost alays on the cold side.
It is a real shame as the hotel layout is very good but they seem to have missed the point with what is on offer, if they could get that right it would be well worth a visit but unitl they do then they don't deserve the 5 stars more like 3 at the moment."

Okay, with a few downfalls

"I, my partner and Mother and Father visited the Stella Palace for 10 days on the 11th May 2010. First impressions of the hotel were good, nice reception area and rooms were nice and spacious with good size balcony. The pool area is also lovely with huge swimming pool and plenty of sun loungers with white pads. The pool bar is the main area for drinks in the day and in the evening, although not overly big, the staff especially in the evning were great! There is a 2nd pool bar but as we were early in the season this had not yet opened.

Now to the disappointing factors:
Analipsi is a very very small and quiet resort approx 10 minutes on foot away with a selection of taverns and supermarkets although again, they were only just opening due to the early season. I would definitely recommend traveling in to Hersonissos which is only 2km away (12euro by taxi or 2.80euro by bus) The bus stop is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. Hersonissos is a much livelier resort with plenty of bars and restaurants available.
Our main gripe with this hotel is that the All Inclusive program FINISHES at 11PM!!!! This in our opinion is FAR too early! Thus you are tempted to buy drinks from the bar at a much more expensive rate than in Hersonissos! My parents and me and my partner ended up both having £60 euro bar bills when checking out of the hotel! And we are not even big drinkers!!
On top of the bar and AI program finishing this early we were constantly bombarded with hotel reps (not Thomas cook) trying to up sell. One afternoon the entertainment rep approached me to say that they were having a "Greek night BBQ" He advised me there would be traditional Greek food with wine and music. Fantastic I thought and told him we would definitely come only to then be advised it was 40Euros per couple!!! As the euro is almost matching the UK pound at the moment £40 was not something we were prepared to pay! Especially when we could go to the restaurant that night and have our AI meal for nothing!!! We were not only approached once about this BBQ but 4 times!!!! Twice by restaurant staff whilst we were trying to eat our dinner! Extremely annoying!!
We also took advantage of the A la carte restaurant where you are permitted to eat once per week via reservation. Whilst the food was delicious, we were again poached to "buy" bottles of wine from the wine list at 19euros a bottle! When we declined and said we would stick to the wine on the AI program (which was obviously free) we were met with some disapproving looks from the waiters!
Overall we had a good holiday but were very disappointed that we were constantly expected to part with more cash for additional extras. Please also be aware of the photographer on site. He will take photos of you and then demand 20Euros for you to have them! (Again we declined!!)

The food in the AI restaurant was VERY repetative also! Not a lot of choice other than Salad!

We booked an All inclusive holiday for just that reason. We wanted everything all in so as we didn’t have to spend a fortune whilst we were away on food and drink. We did in fact end up spending another £450 on these things throughout our holiday which was a little disappointing. Especially when the ATM in Analipsi was was very unreliable and only stocked with money 2 out of the 4 times we tried to get some more cash out!!! The only other ATM's are in Hersonissos!!!

Would definitely not return for any future holidays because of the above reasons although we made the most of it and had a good holiday."

Good hotel but not too attractive location

"We have just returned from a holidays in Stella Palace and our comments are as follows:

Location - if you look for a fabulous beach or active nightlife in the neiborhood, this place is not for you. The hotel is located in the outskirts of a small village and it is virtually in the middle of a empty field. Although the webpage of the hotel claims that they have a private beach, it is extemely small and does not really look particularly attractive. There is a more or less acceptable sandy beach ca 1 km left from the hotel where it is possible to swim but also there offhand the cleaniness of the sand leaves a lot to be desired but after travelling around in Crete and trying different beaches it actually apprears to be quite ok.

Hotel rooms and amentities - certainly not a five star hotel as they claim but according to European standards classifies as good three star hotel. In general the rooms are modern, enough spacious and in a good condition. We really appreciated that the hotel was not one big building but consisted of a number of smaller houses around the swimming pools - it gave a certain feeling of cosiness and privacy. The hotel territory and swimming pools look nice, clean and well maintained, thus what you see from their webpage does not really differ much from reality.

Cleanliness - almost no complaints from our side - our room was cleaned regularly and thoroughly. The only minor issue was some dirt in the pool area but I guess this was caused by heavy winds during the night.

Service - this was really a major positive surprise to us. Almost the entire service staff spoke decent english and they were truly friendly and willing to help you. Also, we really appreciated a positive approach towards families with small kids.

Food - although somewhat boring and not much varied from day to day, still pretty wide choice and no complaints about the quality but it was really strage to us that our all-inclusive package did not include any normal juices but only some fanta-like drinks.

To sum it up, if you do not mind the location and surroundings, it is a good place to spend your holidays, especially if you are looking for more quiet atmosphere and/or travelling with small children."

Great Hotel

"This is a new hotel near old Stella Village, but the service and rooms are much better. The rooms are not large, but cleaned regularly. The staff in restaurant is helpful and friendly. For all meals you can always choose something delicious. If you come to get quite rest, you will enjoy it. You can get Analipsi by foot for 15 minutes. The hotel is at the end of the row of hotels.
You may not like the beach of the hotel, but if you go along beach, you will find a great sandy beach on the left side, which is clean and never busy."
