Good Apartments - Loved the Beach
"The Mirabella Apartments had reasonable reviews so when the holiday came up from a local departure airport we booked it. Requested first floor and possibley room 18. Arrived very late at night and were in ground floor quite unremarkable view due to shrubbery with gap of ocean. However rather than a studio it was a bedroomed apartment with a large and private balcony unlike the main block so we stayed put. Happy hour 7 - 8 would have been happy if Pauline had started her shift sooner - but after 8 and upon returning at night she was smiling and friendly hostess. The best thing was the closeness of quite the best beach - with the clearest water - best at 7.30am when only myself and a local swam peacefully. The apartments are basic but showers worked well and for us it was a great base. Took TA advice and would also recommend George at Club Cars. Touring the island - don't think you can drive to Samaria Gorge and walk it without prearranging how to get transported back to your car. The driving takes abit of getting used to but we did not encounter any accidents. Pietros and Dimytrios were good restaurants but don't miss Olgas either - close by and genuinely friendly people. Down side was Kosmar holidays who made us wait over an hour and half for another flight once we had boarded our coach. Rep did not know enough useful information about the area. Owner of the apartments was not too cheery but Ireni the maid made up for it. Spinalonga trip was enhanced by sharing a boat trip back unknowingly alongside Victoria Hislop who then signed the book I was reading! The hottest weather did not spoil things if you take a good sunhat and cream to fend of the very hot weather and love the salty sea you'll love it.."

"My second visit to aga Nik. This is a fabulous little hotel on the outskirts if ag nik on the rd to Elounda I think. The lady that owns the hotel is lovley, and was very helpfull when I got bitten by mosquitos about 100 times. Her name is Koula. I would not recomend this hotel for people with walking difficulties as it is about a 45 minute walk from the centre of Ag Nik. However you can get a cab which is very cheap and takes about 5 mins to get to town. The centre of Ag nik is lovley, very peacefull and relaxing. Not good town for clubbers as there really arn't any. But still plenty of cafes and bars. I would recomend anyone going to Ag Nik to go to the Blue Lagoon restaurant in the centre of Ag Nik around the lake, it is an amazing view and the food is too die for. I am planning to go and stay at this hotel again next year with my partner and you can get a good deal if you book your room through Koula herself rather than the travel agent!!!! Have fun!!"

"This is the best resort we've ever stayed at in the Greek Islands. The appartment was basic but clean and well-equipped and our young toddler (13 months) was safe. The staff were really friendly and only too willing to make our stay comfortable.
The views from the appartments across the ocean to the mountains is unrivalled and spectacular. Located in a quiet part of town but definitely the best - not too lively but plenty of authentic tavernas around. Swimming in the sea was by far the best thing to do - so clean and clear you could see the bottom of the ocean at least 20ft down."

A Fabulous Holiday!
"My boyfriend and I just got back from a week's holiday at the Mirabella and it was fabulous! I think our room (number 18) may have been a bit larger than the other ones and we were certainly the only ones with a roof on the balcony but the whole place was friendly. The staff were very helpful and the room was cleaned/tided twice in the week. The cooking facilities are minimal but this is what you expect and we did have a kettle and a shower curtain which I've heard is a luxery in Greece. The bar area is run by Diana in the evening who is as lovely as everyone else has reported, and in the day the food served is good and reasonably priced.
The walk into Ag Nik is fine in the evenings as it is cooler and takes about half an hour. We hired a car from Economy rentals, just down the road and this was very helpful in getting around and allowed us to visit Elounda and Knossos. It's also much cheaper to do this than to go on the organised trips from Kosmar.
This was my first time in Crete and I was not disappointed and I would have no hesitation in returning to the Mirabella and recommending it to others."

Best Place Ever Stayed
"As far as apartments/studios go in Greece (and I have been to quite a few) we were very impressed with Mirabella. The studio was spcious and clean. Ok cooking facilities are always gonna be dodgy but it is so cheap to eat out.
Speaking of food... Mirabella apartments is brilliant because it is so close to a taverna called Elotia. Achilleas is very friendly and gives you an oil can full of raki to help your self. He comes up with new ways of drinking it. And the food here is first class and usually quiet quickly served up. Olga taverna is also very good especially for an impressive sea view.
The apartments are situated practically on the beach. The pool wasn't huge and quiet a few flies and bugs on there but Kula will fish them out! And there is a Jacuzzi with is brilliant.
All that is left to say is that I was gutted going home and that you are very luck to be going. You'll have a brilliant time.

"My boyfriend and I spent a week at the Mirabella Apartments in June 2006 and had the most fantastic time. We were a little apprehensive about it as we knew from the brochure that it was a fair walk into Ag Nik itself. The reality of this is that it really isn't a problem.
Firstly, you'll find yourself with so much to do in the area around the apartments anyway and lots of really good tavernas (lots of fresh fish and nice Greek dishes or English dishes if you prefer). We did decide to go into Ag Nik on a couple of occasions and it was pretty easy to do. Just beware of all the people around the bottomless lake trying to get you into their restaurants. It can get a little annoying, but there are some great restaurants there, such as Dionysus. It is a pretty long walk (and we both like walking!) but the local buses run from right outside the apartment and costs around 1euro20cents each or a taxi costs 6euro. We tended to get the bus in and a taxi home.
The apartments itself - as long as you're not expecting 5 star and that you're aware of the typical conditions in Crete (i.e. water not always hot first thing in the morning due to it being run by solar power and putting toilet roll in the bin rather than in the toilet - all fairly typical things out there) then you'll be fine! We loved our studio apartment. We were on the ground floor which worried us a little when we arrived in case it was noisy but it wasn't at all and the room stayed fantastically cool, we didn't need the air conditioning (although it is very reasonably priced if you do). There is a safety box in the room at a small charge.
There is a lovely pool bar, run by Diane in the evenings, a lovely German girl. They did a happy hour while we were there between 7 and 8 and then again between 10 and 11. It was literally heaven sitting by the pool, looking out over the beach and enjoying cocktails/beer/wine etc. The food served is very reasonably priced and is really good too.
While you're there, also worth looking at is Elounda (again a short bus ride away in the opposite direction to Ag Nik) and a boat trip over to Spinalonga (an old leper colony). We also ventured over to Samaria Gorge. Fantastic trip but extremely hard work in the heat and a very long trip from this side of the Island (around a 20hour round trip).
If it helps, I would have no hesistation in going back and other couples staying at the same time as us felt exactly the same. It is a fantastic relaxing place to go for a holiday. The local beach, Havania, is lovely and about 3 minutes walk from the apartments. It is quite stony and shoes that you can wear in the sea would perhaps be helpful (although we didn't have them actually) but you can see all the little fishes swimming around your feet and my boyfriend told me that the snorkelling is amazing there."

"Myself and son stayed at the Mirabella Apts in May and loved every second of it. The Apts themselves are a bit basic, but i found them clean and the view in the morning was fantastic. You can get your breakfast made for you in the morning and they do snacks during the day. A full English breakfast costs 5 Euro which is very reasonable and it is open at 9am. A car is very useful as the walk into the Town is about 30 minutes away. There is a young German girl who tends the bar at night, her name is Diana and she is realy nice. Car hire from Club Cars is about the cheapest you will find and George the owner is first class and will keep you right. A car for the week is roughly about £100 and the cars are all new or not very old. There are a few places quite near at hand for evening meals and are all reasonably priced. There is a Pool Table to the rear and also a hummock for those who want a rest. I would go again as i liked it but for those of you who are looking for a 5star forget it Angus McKinlay"

relax and enjoy
"We stayed at the Mirabella in the October school week for the second year running, and we will be going back next year. If you are looking for a friendly relaxing holiday, this is the perfect place. It is situated 25 minutes walk from the centre of Ag Nik, but the walk to the town has lots of bars and restuarants on the way, and so we only made the town centre once. The Mirabella is great for breakfasts, lunch and relaxing by the pool. Go to Candia (5 minutes walk away) for a fabulous meal at night. They remember you every time you go back, as does Kula and Pauline at Mirabella. Sitting at the bar with the other guests at night trying out all sorts of drinks is good fun. The Greek night is great value. This is a family resort, so if you are looking for lively nightlife etc, Ag Nik in October is not the place for you. This is why we love the Mirabella, everyone appreciates that a holiday is for all to enjoy."

"What can i say, have been going to Crete for 12years, but because of the travel companies not flying from Newcastle we have stayed else where on our last two visits. Not this year i can honestly say we are pining for mirabella this place has every thing you need for a relaxing holiday, cooler the owner is always so pleased to see you and will do any thing to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, rooms are basic but clean every room has beautiful views which take your breath away at first glance.I can honestly say this is our little piece of heaven, the beach is close by as are a few restaurants Olga's is one of our favourites i must say after walking into town numerous times i prefer to take a taxi or bus because it can feel that the road is never ending, if you do walk call in at the Galley where Jackie and George will be pleased to give you refreshments, this is where i call the half way mark but be warned you might not make it in to town as this place is great, food drink fab and much cheaper than in town. All in all i will be returning may bank holiday and i cant wait, next door to mirabella is Evania Apartments this is a family run hotel they are happy to let you use their facilities just purchase a drink this place is just as relaxing and very friendly, my husband spends most of his time here fishing and swimming off the jeti OH i just cant wait to get there YAMOS"

"The appartments themselves were not what I expected, but they were clean and comfortable. We had two appartments in all a 2 bedroomed one on the upper floor, with the most spectacular view ever, which changed everytime I looked at it. The other appartment was nearer the road and had not been modernised, but it was pretty neat. The pool was just perfect for us.
The woman who owns the place, might not speak much English, but we found her very pleasant, she let us keep on our appartments for nothing on the last day (we had a late pick up) even though she had charged other people staying there. I think maybe it was because we spent a lot of time in the place, and ate breakfast/lunch at the bar, and spent quite a few pennies on drinks (not all alcoholic)!, whilst a lot of people spent time elsewhere.
We got to know the three ladies that tended the bar, a local in the morning and early afternoon, and two British ladies the rest of the time. What a great laugh we had.
