Pleased with the Alantha

"My girlfriend and I spent a week at the Alantha Apartments in September.
We were impressed with the size of the apartment - a double bedroom and sizeable kitchen/living area with bathroom.
We had two balconies - one each side of the apartment so used one for drying towels and swimsuits and the other for sitting out with a drink in the evenings before heading to town.
The whole block was clean and modern with friendly English staff and fairly central - it is only a 15 minute walk into town (although it's all uphill on the way back!!)
The rooftop pool was a novel feature with some great views of the nearby beach and mountains and a good spot to watch the sun go down.
There is a decent beach less than 10 minutes walk from the apartments.
But be warned that if you have hired a car then finding the apartments will be tricky as the roads are very narrow with a lot of one way streets not marked on our map which caused us some grief!!
Also parking in the (very narrow) street is extremely restricted
Overall we would recommend the Alantha as reasonably priced and a good location with good facilities"

Excellent Hotel

"I highly recommend this hotel. The staff are very helpful, including the receptionist :-), had a pool on the roof. Had a safe for passports etc whilst out and about for safety too. Even had a wireless network that I could log onto free of c.harge.

Had a lift to all floors.

The place was spotlessly clean.

I have to try to be picky but let me try. I timed it at 8 minutes casual walk down to the harbour. 12 minutes back up as its on a slight incline all the way so if your a bit ropey on your pins its maybe not for you - dont get me wrong.. its not a problem but worth a note just in case you have a pace maker fitted or similar..

My only negative would be the lady behind the counter at the pool bar. Charged me 2 euros for a cup of hot water and a tea bag and help yourself.. But that would explain why we only had one and just went to the harbour instead where your every want is taken care of.

Dont think twice - its worth the stay. Clean, comfortable, handy, friendly."

Clean spacious accomodation

"We stayed at the Alantha Apartments for a week in September. The apartments were large and very clean. We were in the centre block which was good in that you experience no traffic noise. The only downside was we were on the first floor overlooking a wall the balcolny was very small so we did not sit out. The pictures on the hotel's website are accurate and the view from the pool and terrace on top of the hotel are stunning. The pool was freezing, something the hotel needs to address. The seating area above is gorgeous, lovely and shady and cool as there is a nice breeze.
The lady on reception was extremely helpful and gave us a map and details of restaurants and trips. The recommendations were spot on, La Trata and Christopholous in the harbour were great. The Trata is very friendly and very reasonable and they treat you like friends if you visit several times. The Christopholous serves only meze, we ordered far too much but the food was great.
The Aura is in the other direction on the front, again very friendly and good value.
If you want to go to La Strada, in the town centre, they will send a cab (Mercedes- and he would not take a tip). The menu is very extensive and they will also deliver. We went for lunch and dinner. They overcharged us for the lunch but rectified it straight away.
Dinner was really good. My fillet steak was like cutting butter and my husband had fish. The bill for starters, mains, coffee, a bottle of Cretian wine and a carafe and a beer came to 55 euros.
We would recommend the trip to Spinalonga.
We hired a car so drove round the Eastern part of the island. The Lassithi Plateau was good and we had lunch at the Knonio Taverna in Tzermiado, very good and Christine and the staff are very helpful. It gets very busy.
All in all a great holiday."

Great location, lovely clean apartments

"We have just returned from a fabulous week at the Alantha Apartments. I found the rooms to be emaculate and spacious. Rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels every other day. We were on a self catering basis for which cooking facilities were adequate albeit we only ate breakfast in the room.

Our room had a small balcony, no sea view but lots of plants and trees outside to make it private great for eating breakfast or a few cheeky drinks before you go out.

Some other reviews mention the air conditioning charge, but for whatever reason we were not charged, although my boyfriend heard some other people mentioning a charge. So not sure what the situation is. Room had TV but was all foreign except the odd random program in English. The music system didn't work when we were there as there had been a power failure in the area a few weeks previously which had damaged the system. Background music would have been nice as we resorted to playing ringtones on our phone when getting ready to go out.

Pool is amazing. View is to die for, you can see the mountains in the distance, the beautiful turquoise waters of the bay and two lovely islands which are a short distance from the bay. Pool a bit cold my only compliant, surprising when pool is on roof and temperatures were late twenties early thirties the week we were in Crete.

Location of the apartments is perfect, five minutes walk to a great sandy beach with beautiful turquoise waters lapping against it. There are also some rocky areas just up from the beach which are great for snorkling.

In the area of the beach there are lots of places to catch a bite to eat for lunch, we ate at the dolphin on the beach, food great and reasonable, also romantic for a late night cocktail. There is a resturant called asterix which is also great for lunch, great roast dinner on a sunday. The resturant to the left of asterix the other side of the junction is dirty and the waitress ripped us off, don't go there ants on the table and food greasy.

For an evening meal two doors to the right from the asterix is another restuarant which has stairs up to it and a waterfall inside. Food is great went here twice, greek dancing on a friday which was great fun. Say hello to Isabella if you make it here.

In the other direction about 10-15 minutes walk takes you into the picturesque harbour. The walk flies by as you past lots of quant resturants, funky bars and beautiful jewellery shops.

The harbour is amazing with more great resturants and bars. The harbour has a small bridge over an inlet and the other side there is a lake enclosed in by a cliff face, which is so romantic when it is lit up at night. We tried atleast 3 resturants around the lake which were all great. On our last night Sunday there was also a band playing in this area.

Shopping where do I start, for the ladies endless beautiful jewellery shops, full of gold, silver and diamonds, there are also lots of designer boutiques full of bags and shoes, athough some of these are closed at night. For the men stacks of fake sunglasses shops, which are of a great quality no difference to designer brands. Also lots of local produce shops selling olives, olive oil, herbs, leather etc.

Trips - I recommend the boat trip to Spinalonga which lasts four hours, you get to see more of Crete, including the exclusive enlounda, where you can go swimming in the turquoise waters. Spinalonga was initially a fortress but in later years became a Leprousy colony. The tale of the people who lived here is enchanting and tear jerking in places and expels the myths surrounding the disease. Karen is the English guide is excellant and compelling. We also hired a quad which we used to go to the olive oil farm in Krista and travelled to two great beaches great fun too.

We have never been to Greece or Crete before and we absolutely loved it. Agios Nikolaos is a beautiful resort with stacks to do. I would recommend these apartments and the resort generally to everyone."

Fantastic Stay!

"We have just returned from a 10 day holiday in Crete where we stayed at the Alantha. We had a 1 bedroom apartment that was really spacious, quite basic but comfy and amazingly clean! All of the staff were lovely and really welcoming. The pool area is fantastic, and as it is on the roof of the building you got a really nice breeze. The pool area is all modern with really comfy sun loungers. As the pool area is quite small it creates a really friendly community with everyone chatting to each other. The Manager of the apartments was really nice and always had time to talk to you about where was good to visit or eat. The location in perfect, you are literally a 5 minute walk from the centre of Ag Nik, but as your walking you're going past bars and shops, so you're not at all out of the way, but you were never disturbed by noise on a night time in the apartments. I would really recommend the Alantha as it was Clean, comfy, welcoming and cheap! A great holiday!"

A Superb Find

"We would most highly recommend these apartments for a relaxing and pleasant stay. The staff were all absolutely charming and informative, and went out of their way to make our stay delightful. The rooms are cool, clean and modern and the bonus of having a roof-top pool (with stunning views) in a town centre cannot be over emphasised. There is a small extra charge for air-conditioning that was worth every euro when the temperatures were in the 40's! Agios Nikalaos had more than enough to entertain and feed us, with a wonderful selection of authentic, quality, tavernas as well as bars for the younger crowd."

What a find!

"This is the third time that I have stayed at the Alantha Apartments. I had a great time on my last visit but this time was the best ever. As usual the standard of cleaniness were second to none, and the rooms bright and spacious. Although the soft furnishings could do with a little updating I was told by the lovely Antonis that they are planned for next year.
What really impressed me this year was the fantastic refurbishment of the pool area. There were plenty of sun loungers all with brand new mattresses, and the roof terrace has been decked out in a really modern, chic style - perfect for watchng the sun go down and enjoying a cocktail. Just to add to this the pool bar, run by the exuberant Jane, has an excellent snack and full meal menu (even including vegeburgers for the veggies like me!).
I couldn't have been more warmly welcomed or looked after and all the staff were really friendly and went out of their way to make my holiday a great experience. I'll be back next year and am counting the days!"

Great simple accommodation

"We stayed at the Alantha for a week in mid-September and were very satisfied. The rooms are spacious and kept very clean, with basic but perfectly adequate kitchen facilities. The TV was Greek stations only but it didn't bother us as we were generally out and about. The hotel is well situated on a quiet street about 5 minutes walk from the town centre - while we could hear some noise from other rooms (mainly footsteps on the marble floors in the room above) we didn't hear any traffic noise.

The pool on the roof is fairly small and very cold, but there were always free sunbeds to lie on and some great views out to sea. There is also a games room in the basement, although its not well signposted - we didn't find it until we were waiting for the coach to take us back to the airport!

The hotel is very well-run and the staff are all friendly and helpful. Because of the roof top pool the Alantha is not the best for families, but for everyone else it is recommended if you want a good base for exploring what Crete has to offer along with the opportunity for some relaxation."

watch out for additional coast

"i stayed at these apartments the first two weeks in july this year, the apartments were very clean and tidy and there is a good maid service. the block has a roof top pool which gives you an excellent veiw of the sea. The only thing i would complain about is air conditioning, you are not told till you get there that the air conditioning is an extra cost and at this time of the year you just could not be without it. we were charged 8 euros a night so for our 2 weeks we were out of pocket 112euros so watch for this, apart from that i would recomend these apartments"

Excellent, no other words descrbe it

"This is probably one of the best family run hotels that we have ever had the pleasure to stay at. The staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are very spacious, extremely clean and very modern. Set back on a quiet side road but only a few minutes walk from the centre and all the wonderful bars and restaurants. This is truly a wonderful place to stay - we have now stayed there 3 times and it wouldn't occur to us to stay anywhere but here when we visit the very beautiful Aghios Nikolaos"

"Firstly never book a holiday with
Everything that they advertised was false.!
From the price, amenities, location all falsely advertised!!
It's shocking that a company can get away with destroying a summer vacation and stealing hard earned cash. The Alantha Apartments are a one star resort at best! Advertised as a 4 Star! The staff are so unfriendly and unhelpful which would not matter
if you were enjoying your vacation in a wonderful apartment.
Rooms are old and dirty, beds are as hard as concrete and the view is that of a neighborhood flats!
The surroundings of the apartment is rundown. Unfinished construction everywhere and very dirty.
A shocking expensive, experience. We left after 2 days, of a 7 day paid for package!!

We had a great stay at the Alantha apart...

"We had a great stay at the Alantha apartments. The staff were helpful and the accommodation was very clean and comfortable. We booked the holiday with family but when we arrived we were in different blocks. Despite being fully booked our family were moved to be directly above us very quickly.
Air conditioning is a must as it is very hot in August, 8 euros per day.
The pool has fantastic scenery but the sunbeds and pool are too close together which makes it dangerous for younger children.
We went to Amoudi beach (walking destance) and Almyros beach by taxi. The Almyros is well worth the visit and has plenty for the children to do.
The restaurants are good and most of them are quite reasonable.
We found buying excursions from Yiannis (agent by the marina) much cheaper than the rep.
The greek night in Anapolis was excellent and we all enjoyed Watercity.
Spinalonga is a must, the island has lot of history. Only 10 euros at the agency.
