The best views but sadly not all was well!!
"Sadly the hotel DID NOT reach our expectations for many reasons but did have a lovely view. The staff were ok but not overly helpful and there was many problems with the rooms. It had recently been renovated but sadly the person that must of taken the measurements for the alterations must of left there glasses behind! - its impossible to sit or stand up from the toilet as the door is too near to the toilet so you have to leave the door open, the shower tray has been put in roughly the same level of the floor so it floods every single time you have a shower as there is hardly any rim, ants everywhere and you have to check even the kettle as its so bad and was swarming with them. Only two bottle of just fizzy water in the room for the first night only then none further. I hate fizzy water so it would of been nice to have still and at least more than two bottles over our five day stay. If you do register a problem hardly ever did anyone get back to us. We did eat once there though and it was good value for money. All in all, its fine if you want a view, don't need to use the bathroom without closing the internal door to use the toilet or don't like showering. The view is fab which is entirely due to the location and nothing that the hotel had achieved via service and facilities. Very disappointed as the swimming pool too is a trek across the road and does not say that in the details. In general - fairly disappointed!! Swimming pool had an incredible amount of chemicals as it made your eyes really sting."

"We arrived after an early morning flight to find our room ready for us which was unexpected.the staff are so friendly and helpful.I lost my camera on the first day and having gone back to the restaurant to see if anybody had found it with no result I thought that I would never see it again and was upset as it had so many photos on it.I mentioned it to the receptionist that evening and she went out of her way to phone the police and then the restaurant just in case .It was found under a cushion I was so relieved and went for it the next day.The bedroom had a balcony with beautiful views over to Africa and Spain .It is across from lovely gardens and near to the cable car up to the rock. The only downside is the hike up to the hotel which is on a steep hill you need to be quite fit after a day out to make the climb but there are plenty of buses and there is a bus stop in front of the hotel. We are looking forward to a return visit the hotel is very clean just had a refurbishment and breakfast has plenty of choices .It has a pool over the road but unfortunately was not open until 1st April when we were old towels are supplied by the hotel."

needs many improvements
"this hotel is living on its former reputation it is very tired dirty and staff could improve their attitude, the hotel doesn't provide things it advertises while the swimming pool area is fairly good it is dirty in the pool and surrounding areas after our 2 week holiday earlier this month we were very dissapointed and found this hotel certainly doesn't deserve its star rating we believe 3 star at the very best"

Long Weekend in The Rock Hotel
"Myself and my husband have just come back from a 3 night stay at The Rock Hotel. Room was lovely with a fantastic view. Spacious room , cleaned daily to a high standard. Breakfast was very good, plenty to choose from and nothing was too much trouble. Staff very friendly and helpfull. Would love to stay there again. The only down side is that the hotel is now starting to look a bit tired and could do with a lick of paint. "

"We have had 3 visits to The Rock Hotel in the last 12 months, it is a wonderful place to chill out and relax. The staff are so polite, welcoming and make you feel important and they are actually happy to have you there. Especially the bar and Wisteria Terrace staff. We are auctually looking forward to our next visit. Recommend a visit to everyone. We found the town also had plenty to do and see. Visit the monkeys."

"We've holidayed at the Rock since 1999 and been there four times since 2002. Wonderful place - like going back to home. Genteel but the staff like guests who are human - you get much more than the normal service if you are. We're back there again in July for another relaxing break. As far as facilites go the Barbary Bar is excellent with delicious 'snack' menu. The restaurant meals, including breakfast, are superb with a wide choice of variety. The pool area is a delight and the salt water very refreshing in the hot weather. The only downside we have each time is acclimatising ourselves to the hill when walking back from town - but we know by the end of our stay we're a lot fitter than when we started and have walked off the extra calories put on."

Fantastic room, view, food, and service....
"Fantastic room, view, food, and service. The room was massive with whisky and sherry provided (free) and refilled each night. The service was A class, the view was spectacular. This was a true 4* hotel (unlike my last holiday Hera Village Crete. Argh!). I would recommend this hotel to anyone - the only thing negative I would say is owing to its location it would not be suitable to guests with walking difficulties. I liked it so much we have booked our wedding there September 2008!! Happy Holidays."

Marvellous hotel !
"My wife and I stayed at the Rock Hotel for 3 days on our honeymoon. When we booked in we had only been in the room for about 10 minutes when a waiter turned up with a bottle of champagne in an ice bucket, some flowers and a card from the staff wishing us well - brilliant ! All the rooms, some with balconies, overlook the harbour with views of Spain, Gibraltar Bay, the Straits and North Africa. If you do nothing else sit and take in this view every day as there is always something going on. The rooms are a good size and the bathrooms appear to have been recently refurbished and are pristine clean. Nice big towelling bath robes and slippers are supplied in every room plus the little decanters of sherry and whisky. We ate in the restaurant every night and on each occassion we found the food and choice on the table d'hote menu was very good. We had a table overlooking the harbour but wherever you sit in the restaurant you get a good view. The Wisteria bar and terrace is worth a visit as it is like stepping back in time with all the old photographs on the walls of past patrons and ships that have visited. All the staff were only too pleased to help and if you wanted any arrangements made then they made them straight away. There is some building work going on next door but in our 3 days there we only heard noise once for about 10 minutes so do not let any mention of these works put you off staying at this marvellous hotel."

The Rock Hotel is A1
"We stayed for 3 nights at the Rock Hotel in March 06., en-route to Portugal. Again (this was our 4th visit) the total service and commitment of staff was excellent. Our room and bathroom was very clean and was 'tided up' daily. The breakfasts are just the job and of an evening the food served in the bar is very good, with a first class bar manager. The view from the balcony is A1 with Africa in the background, there is a 'hum' from the generators in the naval dockyard but this all adds to the experience. We will return. We rate this hotel as above average."

Rock Hotel - Still great
"We stayed for my birthday in February and the hotel remains fantastic. Further to the previous comment there was a housing development being built next door but we found it no bother even though we were on that side of the hotel. These works can't be far from completion however."

Early Spring at the Rock Hotel
"The Rock Hotel is ideally situated in Gibraltar and all the rooms have views of the bay. We wouldn't have wanted to stay in the town or anywhere else. The Casino is just 100 yards up the hill, there are botanical gardens immediately below and the cable car is very close. building work next door goes almost unnoticed. All in all we recommend this hotel."
