What a great find
"I stayed at La Fiancee du Pirate in May 2009 for two nights. It was a relaxing girly weekend away. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. I spent ages looking for a good value hotel and was not disappointed. The owners were most welcoming and could not have been more helpful with tips on where to go and what to eat! We ate at Colins just down the road from the hotel and Les Garcons which was in the centre of Villefranche - both were fabulous! There were plenty of sunbeds by the pool and the mattresses and towels were already laid out for us! The breakfasts were especially good as the weather was sunny and we managed to sit both mornings outside with the fabulous sea views. Many thanks to the owners once again Eric, Lawrence and her Mum & Dad for a great weekend."

"Get the little bungalow room in the garden overlooking the pool - fabulous views from the shower. Gorgeous terrace to enjoy breakfast before going to the beach or sightseeing. Recommended to a friend who also had a fantastic stay."

Great Hosts and Great Location
"We stayed in rooms 6 and 7 for four nights. Room 6 had a great view of the ocean. It was quiet at night and there is free parking in front. The hotel was spotless and the hosts (Laurence and Eric) very fantastic. They answered a lot of questions around where to go and what to see and the hotel had a personal touch that is not there at others. They made breakfast for us everyday. It generally consisted of various breads, pastries, crepes, cereals, fruits and yogurt. The hotel has wifi which came in handy. The town of Villefrance sur mer is a small walk down hill, and also easily accessible by car. We wanted to drive to Italy and the hosts gave us some good tips for our trip. After we asked the hosts for restaurant suggestion, they made restaurant reservations anticipating our needs.
Within walking distance of the hotel there is one bakery and two restaurants. We had dinner at Restaurant Colin and let's say the seafood was incredible. At breakfast, there is an incredible view of the ocean while you eat. It is breathtaking and on clear days you can see Corsica. It was easy to step out of the hotel and go for a run every morning. I highly recommend this hotel for its facilities, values and terrific hosts."

Very clean, fantastic view, free parking...
"We stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. Very clean, spacious room, which had a seaview. We enjoyed waking up to seeing a different cruise ship in the harbour each morning. We didn't have breakfast, as it cost 9 euros extra. There is a boulangerie just 5 minutes walk down the road from the hotel.
Eric was very helpful on arrival, giving us maps and writing down a few recommended sights for the area. He spoke good english, and when we wanted to extend our stay for 1 more night, it went very smoothly.
We walked into town (Villefranche) for dinner each night, which is fine downhill, but is quite steep up hill. It takes about 25 minutes. Ofcourse, you can take your car, but then you've got to find parking for it. There are numerous restaurants, and our recommendation is "Les Garcons" on Rue Pouli, no sea views, but has fantastic food (around 12 euro for entrees, 19 euros for mains and 5 euro for dessert)
Despite the location on the main road of the Moyenne Corniche, we did not hear any road noise. All windows were double glazed, and our room faced the ocean. There is free parking right outside the hotel. We left our hire car parked for 3 days, and caught the buses into Eze and Nice. We caught the train to Monaco from Nice, only cost 3.30 euro each way. The hotel has the bus and train timetables in the recepton area.
We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel to our friends."

Great experience at La Fiancee du pirate
"We spent 5 days in Villefranche at La Fiancee du Pirate. It is a very clean quiet hotel off the beaten path. It is situaed on the middle Corniche (mountain side) and a car is needed if you intend to stay in this hotel.
The rooms are a good size for France. We stayed in a bungalow near the pool which was very nice. We had twin beds and air conditioning that was not very cold.
The breakfasts provided by Eric and Laurence were excellent. There was a buffet which included juices, fruit, croissants, French bread/baguette, cheeses, ham, crepes and jam. Coffee was also delicious.
We had a very relaxing holiday and would highly recommend staying at this hotel."

What a wonderful surprise!
"This hotel although up the steep hill from the village is quite lovely. The view is amazing and the pool very serene and private. The owners are very real and speak English also. Things close down early on the Moyenne Corniche so knowing this is good information and although the village is just about 20 mins walking it will kick your butt on the way back. I stayed in Villefranche for four plus weeks for school and I can say those hills are not for the faint-hearted, though I do miss them strangely enough. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!"

a 2* Hotel with 5* Service
"We booked this hotel at the last minute and really didn't know anything about it prior to arriving. It is an outstanding little hotel with great service, the owners Laurence and Eric are a great couple and really went out of their way to help in any way,It has a pool for guests to use at any time and recliners and towels were provided. The rooms were well appointed and the views were stunning to say the least (we were at the rear of the hotel with views of the bay).and there was no noise to disturb us at all.As previously stated it is a fair walk to the main village of Villefranche but we did it at least 4 times without any problem but others who are not used to walking as we are may find the trek a bit daunting, there is a bus from the village to the hotel but MAKE sure you check the time table as they don't run very late in to the evening.Close to the hotel there is a small supermarket and a bakery to die for,try their strawberry tarts with a mountain of fresh cream!!!!!
All in all this is a superb little hotel and can be recommended for people with young kids like us or for any body who fancies a quiet getaway, there is no disco or loud music,no roudy bar just good old fashioned French hospitality at it's best. One thing that would have been a great asset would be a small fridge in the room as we were purchasing water at the supermarket and in the 36 deg weather it was qiuck to get warm, but we managed without. The area is superb and Monaco,Nice and the spectacular little village of Eze are all withing a few minutes by car,we managed it on public transport without too much trouble."

A great home base for exploring Nice to Monaco by car
"Located on the Moyen Corniche, only a few minutes from Nice (and with free parking!) this hotel is a great base for exploting the Corne d'Or (Nice - Villefrance - Monaco and points in between). Don't be fooled by the streetfront appearance, this hotel is really nice on the insida and sea and garden views. The only caveat is not that it is a 20-min. walk to the centre of Villefranche, but that it is a very steep hike back up to the hotel! Being low-season, we found it to be very good value for quality -- except for the 9 Euro breakfast. A buffet with crepes, and a lovely outdoor terrace just isn't worth that much for a breakfast. After the first morning, we went to the grocery store and/or bakery just up the road to grab a croissant. Eric and Laurence run a very nice, well appointed hotel with lovely spacious rooms and modern bathrooms. They can also provide good recommendations for retaurants and sites in the area."

Good value and great views
"I stayed at this hotel recently during my fifth trip to Villefranche and found it to be of excellent value. As some reviewers have mentioned, it is a walk into the old town and the return journey is somewhat tough on the calves but it can done in 22 minutes (I timed it!) and you don't need a car to visit the beach. Despite being on the Moyenne Corniche, I didn't find it noisy at all as we had a garden room with a view of the pool. The owners were very friendly and Laurence speaks very good English. On our last day we had an evening flight and she gave us access to a room to leave our luggage and shower in free of charge. Her husband also makes crepes for you at breakfast. Having stayed at the Welcome and the Darse previously - which each have their merits - I will return here in future."
