10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"We have stayed in a large number of hotels at different star ratings worldwide, including the South of France. This hotel was booked via small luxury hotels of the world. The room was booked for four nights in early July at a cost of 280 euros per night. We could not believe the room we were allocated. It was at the back of the hotel, so small there was nowhere for the luggage, dated decor with brown and orange flowers, and a view of a terrace below that was part of the hotel with broken concrete and overgrown with weeds. The rating of the room was not worthy of a 1* bed and breakfast. The bed was small, sagging and dipping, covered in a stained, ripped, 'bed cover'. The carpet was thin, hard, brown and sticky. The furniture was musty and broken. The room overall was dirty, the smell was appalling, and it was noisy. The bathroom was unbelievably small and mouldy. We politely and calmly asked if there was anything else available, we were willing to pay any amount, there was availability, but the manager was so offensive because of the rate we had paid, we took the decision to leave immediately. SLH were very helpful and arranged to move the dates on our other bookings, all of which we wonderful. If we had stated a sea view room or suite whilst booking, we may have enjoyed a slightly different experience. We moved to Chateau Eze for the same price which was beautiful, and an unmissable experience, with a beautiful room, perfect views, wonderful food and lovely staff."

Nice Location ....over priced
"Stayed at the belle rives last year .....just booking to go back to juan les pins but would not stay at the belle rives. To me it was dated and very expensive. Our room overlooked the terrace and were kept awake by the piano playing in the bar till very late! To be charge those rates for sunbeds is day light robbery. However the staff were very friendly."

"Just a quick word to recommend Hotel des Belles Rives among one of the best hotels on the French Rivièra. We travelled from Ramatuelle to Monaco and enjoyed our stay at this particular hotel very very much. It is an stylish place with an informal atmosphere. Exactly tyhe right place to spend a few days. There is a beautiful terrace, a small beach, waterskiing facilities and a great restaurant. We will be back !"

Okay, but not as fabulous as it looks on the website
"I recently stayed at this hotel, choosing it because it was on the water and had a small beach. I didn't realize the view would include some tacky high-rises built in the seventies. Once I got over that, I realized that the hotel was charging me quite a lot of money for a beach chair, towel and umbrella. It was actually cheaper to water ski than it was to lie on the beach. On the positive eside, the restaurant at the hotel was excellent with extra-attentive staff, and the men that work the water ski boats were very nice and helpful."

A Travel in Time
"Got back today from a 4 night stay at the Belles Rives. We have been to the Riviera several times in the past, but never stayed at a lovelier place than the Belles Rives. The views from the hotels towards the sea are nothing but stunning, as is the hotel itself. Beautiful building. The rooms are small though, and the rooms facing the street instead of the sea are very noisy, but also a lot cheaper than the ones facing the sea. We chose to spend our money on food and drink, and made do with a cheaper room. The hotel itself makes it worthwhile with it's wonderful bar in grand art deco style, complete with a great pianist. We had wonderful weather and could spend our days relaxing in the sun on the pier just outside. Everything is very expensive, but still you leave satisfied. Juan les Pins with all its restaurants and bars is just a few minutes walk away. Very scenic, very romantic, very worthwhile."

You Won't Forget It
"Over the years we have travelled to Europe a number of times and we spent three nights at the Belles Rives during late September, 2004. The experience of enjoying a cheese board and a bottle of wine while sitting on the terrace and watching the sun set behind Cannes and the lights starting to come on all over the mountains is certainly one of the highlights of all our travels. And the outstanding piano music drifting out of the bar added to the moment. Juice, coffee and bread early in the morning watching the bay come alive is almost as enjoyable. The staff is friendly, helpful and are just waiting with suggestions, guides, etc. The room was very clean. A wonderful experience."

"Spent 3 nights here in June, 2004. Two rooms with the kids (teenagers). Very, very nice place. Kids had the cheap room. Twins on the Cap side. Nice room, but the noise on from the street in substantial and did bother them in trying to sleep. Staff is wonderful and the concrete "beach" is actually very nice. Walking to distance to Juan-les-Pins was a great amenity. The kids could walk into town and wander around. Lots of restaurant, cafes and great glace. Town was wonderful, and we thought much nicer than Antibes. Great beach place. The restauant at the hotel was excellent. We set a new family record for a dinner (about $400!!), but it was something special. On the veranda overlooking the Med. with the sun setting is hard to beat. Although expensive, it is unique and very enjoyable."

The beautiful Belle Rives
"The Belle Rives is beautifully decorated in Art Deco style, and the rooms, although small, are charming and nicely decorated. We had a room with a view of the beach, and it was stunning. The bathrooms are marble and very sumptuous, although small. We were treated very warmly (which is unusual for France as they are not known for being warm) by the staff. We spent our days relaxing on the sun loungers (there is no pool, but a large area where the sun loungers are all placed out in lines on the edge of the private beach (not sandy, but a paved area which extends into the sea) from which you can swim), which for some strange reason are charged extra even to hotel guests - this is not altogether clear until you receive the bill. The breakfast terrace is really gorgeous that extends over the sun bathing area slightly and has uninterrupted views. If you can afford the option to take breakfast daily there, it is worth it. Coffee can be taken during the day and is also very pleasant. The restaurant in the hotel is very nice, the food excellent. Overall the experience was lovely and we would return if we wanted to stay in the area."

Love the Belles Rives
"I have been to the Belles Rives three times, the first in 1982,and the most recent about 1996. I absolutely loved this hotel which is right on the beach. The rooms are moderatebut clean, a bit small, but comfortable. The owners and employees were always very friendly and the atmosphere of a room with a Meditteranean view is priceless. Our room overlooked the sea and an outdoor dining area (a wonderful place to have your morning coffee and croissants). The hotel has a 5 star restaurant and was a totally enjoyable experience all 3 times. After dinner, don't miss walking into the city which is not onlya good way to help settle your dinner, but also a very pleasant experience. The casino is not far from the hotel if you wish to try your luck at some of the local games.I hope to get back there sometime in the near future....this is one of my most fondest memories of my travels in Europe, the city....its people.... and, of course, the Belles Rives."
