10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"Yes its a cheap budget hotel, we paid only £55 for the night and yes its super convenient for the tunnel and cite europe but I stayed here as could see its so highly rated and was bitterly disappointed as its a mega basic and I have stayed in far better for the same price in Calais only a short distance away. The room was tiny, and there is a metal frame above your bed to house a single bunk bed. Really uncomfortable bed and pillows. Would stay in the suite hotel next door on our next visit which is double in price but I feel worth it if you can get a nights sleep."

Just what we needed
"We stayed after a late crossing on Eurotunnel. Perfect for waht we needed and surprisingly quiet. Would definitely use it again for an overnight stop in France. You get an early get away the next morning rather than starting in the UK."

Great for stopovers
"Stayed while on a roadtrip, wanted somewhere clean and convenient to stay after coming out of the Eurotunnel late at night. As a budget hotel for a one night stay it was hard to beat for the price, very easy to check in electronically, just insert card used to book online into a machine and it provides you with a ticket stating the room number and pin code for the door. Rooms were basic but very clean, the bed was comfortable and the shower was great. All in all it was perfect for our needs."

Very good hotel
"Hotel was very good for an overnight stay. It provided a confortable bed, with clean sheet and a TV showing BBC 1 and BBC2. The shower was very nice plenty of hot water with towels provided and even a couple of bars of soap. We didn't seem to have sink plugs in our rooms so dad found it hard to wet shave so take a plug! Great value for money expecially as you can use the facilities of the other hotels on site. We all went over to the Ibis in the evening for a drink in there bar, no problems at all with staying here. Although room adequate for 2 people if there were 3 if would be a squeeze only door in the room is in the loo. Would definately recommend this hotel we stayed here for an overnight stay to break up a shopping trip. Definately value for money. Checked in electronically no problems you have a 6 or 7 digit access code for your room so no keys required. Very good hotel for the money. everything provided what was needed."

Great value clean budget hotel
"Stayed at the Etap Hotel Calais for a Sunday night. Although the rooms are small we still had space to put up a travel cot for our baby. Room had its own separate toilet and shower. Beds were comfortable and clean. We booked via the Etap website but had to check in using the automated kiosk in reception, this was not much of a problem as long as you have a credit card. The only problem we had was that we had pre booked a non-smoking room but were allocated a smoking room on arrival. Breakfast was 5 Euros each, and was self-service and a bit basic, consisting of cereals, sweet bread, French bread, yoghurt, orange juice, tea and coffee. The hotel has its own gated car park and was sited near the Cite De L'Europe shopping complex. One thing to note is that on Sunday all the shops in Cite De L'Europe are closed as are most of them elsewhere in the area. Fortunately the Cite De L'Europe restaurants were open!"

Briliant Value for Money Hotel
"Stayed here on 24 Aug 2008 before early ferry. Basic but VERY clean room with comfortable bed and lovely fresh bedding. Although room is fairly small, I have stayed in much more expensive smaller (and less clean) rooms. Breakfast was lovely. Situated within walking distance of Cite De Europe (MASSIVE shopping and leisure centre - well worth a visit). Will definitely use ETAP hotels again."

"Whenever we stay in Calais this is usually the hotel we choose, for the price paid you get what you pay for....Clean rooms, Excellent location (just 1 exit to the tunnel and next to Cité Europe shopping centre) and English TV :) We usually check-in late so we never see the managers on duty so end up using the Automatic Reception (easy to use). One rant though, be sure to ask for a room on floors 1, 2 or 3, we had rooms on the ground floor last time round and all you could hear was gurgling and groaning through the ventilation system. Very strange! but excellent stay"

Great budget stopover
"Booked this hotel direct on Accor hotels website for the bargain price of 42 euros for two. Have stayed at the Ibis before on the same site, where the rooms are a bit bigger, but for a stopover after a long drive from the Dutch/Belgian border, the Etap was great. The room was smallish with a double bed and a single bunk bed. The bed was very firm and comfortable and the sheets crisp and fresh. The shower was excellent and the sink/loo very clean. Not much room to walk around but when you are only in the room to sleep and shower, what more do you want? Breakfast was an extra 4 euros each and upon first glance didn't look up to much, but to our surprise was actually very good. Fresh coffee, hot milk, crusty bread, jam, juice, all freshly prepared and enough to start the day. It did get a bit crowded in the breakfast room at 8.30am ish, so sharing tables is the norm. All in all, for the money, you can't go wrong. I would say however, that if there were three of you staying in a room, you would have to know each other pretty well, due to having the shower/loo in the room and no dressing-room!!!!"

For this price who could moan
"Like the Belgian reviewer says it is a budget hotel, and you get budget beds, budget toilets and a budget shower, but you can eat at The Ibis which is a minutes walk or less if you are quick and their food is always good, you can walk 5 minutes to Cite Europe and eat in numerous outlets. You get an as much as you can eat budget breakfast also which is â¬4, there is nothing to complain about on this, nothing at all. I just wish there where more hotels of this type scattered about!"

3 new hotels
"At 400 m from the Cite Europe shopping centre, 4 minutes from the channel tunnel Accor hotels did construct a set of 3 new hotels : mid price, low price, and budget. The mid-price is a "suite hotel" that I don't know. The low price is the classical Ibis. And then there is the budget hotel : an ETAP. If you like it even cheaper, there are a few Formule 1 hotels in the area too. But I stayed at the Etap. The gate to the (common) parking is closed at night, so you have to ring to get in. Use the Suite Hotel one, not the Ibis one (there is no Etap button). The hotel works like other Etap hotels : self check inn. The rooms are like Formule 1 rooms, but have a small shower and bathroom. My room was nice and clean. No luxus here ofcourse, but this hotel is real cheap and value for money. There is a lift. The hotel is signposted (follow "hotels")."
