ok, but nothing to write home about
"I stayed at this hotel as part of my tour with Insight. Alot of tour groups stay here. I did not find the location all that great. It was very close to the metro station as stated in other reviews, but there is nothing else around here. You will need to take the metro everywhere. I did walk back to the hotel a couple of times, it takes about an hour at a good pace to get from Notre Dame to the hotel. Hotel itself is just ok. We had a room on the 17th floor, the view was just ok, nothing exciting except the fact you are in PARIS!!. Room was small by North American standards, about average for Europe. Carpet and wall paper are worn. Furniture is worn and tired looking, there are dents and dings in the dressor. The bathroom is clean, toilet is located in a side room of its own, but no sink there, so you still have to go into the main bathroom to wash your hands, not laid out the best. Area with the tub and sink was clean and quite roomy. If you want to use the bar fridge, or make any phone calls you have to give the front desk a credit card. Public areas of the hotel are clean and seem to be refurbished. Concierge desk was both helpful and knowledgable. Internet at the hotel is a rip off, go to an Internet cafe, there are several in the area. I would not stay here again, hotel was just average, nothing special, for the price you can get something better located."

nicwe hotel but away from center of paris
"this hotel was used by glous normandy, britanny, and chateau country - it was a very nice hotel, with all the services (concierge, restaurant, etc.) but was away from the center of paris - i would have preferred a hotel where i could walk in the evening without having to take a taxi or the subway the breakfast buffet was wonderful if i were to return to paris, i would definitely choose a different location i am from san antonio, texas"

Great location, pleasant stay
"We spent 5 nights at the Sofitel (now Marriot) Hotel Rive Gauche, Paris, at the end of August, 2006 and were generally pleased with our stay. When we first arrived, we were uncertain we'd come to the right place because there was no Sofitel or Marriot itentity--all the signs and logos simply said "Hotel Rive Gauch" (means Hotel Left Bank). This was cleared up immediately at the registration desk, and we were in our desired room within 10 minutes. There was a sign stating that remodeling was ongoing, but there were no indications of construction activity--no pounding or torn-up lobbies. The public areas look great and are well maintained. The guestroom itself was clean and well appointed, but the carpet and bathtub tiles indicated a moderate amount of wear. From our point of view, the location was fantastic: a quiet, seemingly safe, and mostly-residential area but near the local service Metro (Green line direct to the Eiffel Tower/Champs d'Elyson) and also an easy 10 minute walk to the RER Denfert subway station with access to the faster express trains. Also there were several small cafes and bistros, as well as a grocery store (with inexpensive wine) within just a couple blocks. Staff was courteous and knowledgable. The breakfast buffet was just adequate. As of now, there is no in-room Internet service whatsoever. WiFi is available in the lobby and lounge areas, but the service costs 10 Euros for 2 hours. (I did discover, however, that their WiFi network suppourts several non-hotel service providers, including T-Mobile, so check the availability of your provider before shelling out your money) The greatest flaw in this hotel is in the the building itself. It was designed in the 1960s or 70s, as a highly efficient "motor hotel" positioned then as a low-cost alternative to the traditional and grander in-city hotels. As such, the guest rooms are tight and the ceilings are low. A person of normal height can actually touch the upstairs corridor ceilings. Any Hampton Inn in the U.S. will be more spacious, and it'll be interesting to see whether the intended remodeling can actually bring it up to the 4-stars we'd expect from Marriot."

Nice location but old hotel
"This hotel has excellent location with the metro station literary at the doorstep. The big metro station of rochereua is only 10 minutes away. The hotel also has an excelllent concierge service and almost all the staff are eager to please. However, this hotel is old. And we I say old, I mewan old that has been refurbished since the 1980s. Please note that the beds are uncomfortable and the furniture dates from the 1970's. I will not stay here again until they remodel the place. Mariott bought this place recently and will begin renovation in July. If you do decide to stay here, coem back after the renovation."

"The hotel is clean and friendly. The rooms are a decent size, but not nearly as fancy as an american hotel for that price. The concerige staff is excellent and the hotel is 1 block from the metro. The restaurant in the hotel is not worth the money, but Nellies bar is a great place to hang out for a drink or a coffee. There are several nice cafes on the same block in close walking distance."

"The rooms were clean and the hotel was slightly one block from a metro stop. However, our best experience was with the concierge, where we received service that was above and beyond what could be expected. Specifically, his name was Ricardo, I believe. He planned a trip to Normandy for us that was incredible. He had to coordinate several difficult logistical arrangements to make this trip happen, and we were very impressed in his ability to deliver and his overall congeniality. Any new visitor to the hotel, ask for Ricardo and be sure to tip him as he is more than deserving!"

"My stay at this hotel was wonderful...from breakfast in the morning, to the helpfulness of the concierge, to its location...never been to Paris before, but would love to go back and stay here again. Everyone was extremely nice and we had a very nice room with a great view."

Enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel Rive Gauche
"We stayed here for 3 nights, and were very happy with the service from start to finish. Reception staff were helpful and polite, as were the waiting staff in the breakfast room and the porters. Breakfast was very good, wide choice of hot and cold food. Rooms were clean, warm and met our every requirement. Location excellent - 1 minute from the Metro station, and views from the 11th floor were fantastic. Would recommend this hotel."
