too hectic with wedding celebrations & kids
"Yesterday afternoon my husband and I returned from our Cyprus Holiday- After a ten day stay 26th May- 4th June at the â Grecian Parkââ (First time to this hotel). We felt it only fair to share some of the positive but also negative points of this five star hotel and be totally honest. We picked the Grecian Park for many reasons, but top of OUR priority list- REST & RELAXATION !!! We did not want loads of kids and the so called ââfamily friendly kids clubs' 'OR the busy teenagers , night life with pubs and clubs keeping us awake, we wanted a chilled location away from hectic family Life- plus with the mention in the brochure of a steep hike down to the PRIVATE beach, we hoped (and saw via the review sites) it puts most people off with small kids and prams. We were wrong !!! But all the Wedding Celebrations constantly going on, all the kids, relaxation during the day and into the early hours made life difficult to unwind for us and at times difficult to sleep. We were later to find out, most that we witnessed were invited wedding guests with Mums & Dads....Aunties & Uncles , friends and relations. First of all the main Positive points- *Nice Hotel Room- modern decor ( white and silver) & balcony & Clean. *Good standard of food (for Cyprus hotels) Half board is best* *Good standard of service, very friendly staff (in particular all Swedish waiting on staff & reception people). *Lovely pool area with free sunbeds & free umbrellas , fresh towels to lie on each day. *Lovely decor both inside and out. Negative points- *As the Grecian Park is a busy Wedding location where guests stay and bring family and friends on average for a week , we were rather shocked how many wedding parties (post & pre wedding) were ACTUALLY STAYING at the hotel along with most of the invited guests (most English). It was just like being in England at times with all the loud wedding chatter and drinking & social aspect that hectic weddings bring...not being a kill joy, we were not staying here as a wedding guests but as a holiday guest, we wanted a 5 star retreat! These people had booked in to attend a wedding and most had booked time before or after the event to have a holiday along side. Each day we were submerged into the goings on of busy weddings. Most days ,two weddings were being performed outside, the partyâs guests were hectic with hair nails and flowers- then came the photographers and video people along with setting the area up and twice a day we had the bride and groom (and all the guests) walk past the pool for their wedding. Then into the afternoon / evening celebrations began. A typical day for us started with breakfast- The whole eating areas inside and out were full of wedding guests either planning the forthcoming wedding or reminiscing the previous days /accounts or last nights goings on. The push chairs and high chairs and comings and goings made it hard to enjoy a lovely breakfast. We could have been just about anywhere other than Cyprus. Then over to the pool- that was all morning filling up with wedding guests and kids prams and busy chatter from guest to guest. Before long you guessed it, the sun loungers filled up and kids arrived. Being honest this was our main disappointment -it ruined the atmosphere while we trying to unwind and relax, then with all the comings and goings of guests and family's, friends and kids. Day time, night time and into the early hours!!! What can i say, this hotel needs to be renamed the ââGrecian Park Wedding Hotelââ. They have two other sister hotels a drive away, we felt the brochure and website needs updating to inform people that THIS IS THE FOCUSââof the Grecian hotel. It's really about the weddings and everything else in the hotel takes a back seat! * Some Hotel rooms classed as -Garden view/ Economy âsadly do look out onto the main busy road. * We found the hotel prices also very expensive in and around the hotel for extra's like drinks or snacks. At the pool bar- pot of tea was 4.20 euros coffee was 4.20 euros cappuccino was 5.50 euros beers from 3.80- 4.60 euros. burgers from 9.00 euros- 9.60... Lucky a good shop near by selling all sorts. * The private beach that is mentioned for hotel guests , came as a bit of a shock when we spotted the big car park and adjacent road leading to it. It is open to absolutely everyone, not private and no secret to locals or other holiday makers on a warm day !!! But yet again, even if it had of been private- this was also mad with wedding party guests. On the whole a lovely hotel with a busy agenda of daily Weddings and Celebrations, hard to find space or quietness to relax. We enjoyed our time because we tried to work round it....but we will not be going back. We did complain to a gentleman in the main restaurant â he appeared to be a restaurant manager- We told him how every evening since we arrived that all the kids running around the restaurant ruined our meal and no one from his staff had addressed it- he told us ââ they are attending a wedding tomorrow and not to worryââ !!! Really this would not be allowed in a good five start hotel, they were quick enough to inform guests who wore shorts to dinner but never addressed the behaviour or some kids during the evening dinner seating !!!! I told him it was like MC Donald's at times, it really ruined it !!! Itâs worth mentioning that we spoke with several couples today on the bus and at the airport who all felt the same....to busy with Wedding guests and busyness from wedding groups and way tooooooooooo many kids and crying babies. Maybe the management should try taking a holiday as a guest at the Grecian, just to see how hard it is for regular guests? Room Tip: pick pool side- away from main road Stayed June 2011, travelled as a couple for a romantic holiday."

"2006 was our second holiday at the grecian park, our reason for going back is simple, it is the perfect hotel location and staff to spend your holiday with your loved one. The staff could'nt do enough for you the views from our balcony were unreal more so at sunset. The food was amazing especialy the managers buffet and they served good healthy food by the pool.Going back this summer and we can't wait. look forward to seeing you all. David Bushby&Lena Sami"

What a Party!
"Excellent Hotel for our daughter's wedding! All arrangements carefully taken care of by Joanne the First Choice Rep, she was amazing! Thanks Joanne! and what a Party!!! We will never forget it! Absolutely wonderful! Everything within the hotel was fabulous, all staff lovely, rooms very nice and spacious, food delicous, wheelchair access within hotel and by the pool excellent, no complaints whatsoever. Only downside, lots of roadworks going on outside hotel, no proper pavements to use, 12" high kerbs and un-made up roads. If you want a hotel with nice walks outside, please don't come here, you'd have to drive or get taxi's everywhere. Protaras is not far away by taxi, there are lots of restaurants and bars there if thats what you prefer. All in all though, A GREAT HOLIDAY and we will definately go back (once the roads are finished) The taxi drivers told us the roadworks have been going on for over a year! "

Just returned from my daughter's wedding...
"Just returned from my daughter's wedding at the Grecian park and it was the most fantastic holiday and wedding venue you can imagine. The hotel is fantastic, the rooms wonderful and the hotel management look after you every second of the day. We booked the wedding through Cyphlon and we had a Cypriot wedding planner at our disposal 24 hours a day from the time we arrived - she was wonderful. We had half board, and the food in the restaurant was wonderful. Suggest getting a car if you are there for more than a week to get around a bit, as there is nothing near the hotel and taxis quite expensive, 10-12 euros to Protaras or Ayia napa each way. Cyprus drive on the same side of the road as we do, so quite easy. On the flip side, we arranged our travel with Thomas Cook, and I wish we had booked the whole thing with Cyphlon. The travel arrangements with Thomas Cook both ways were shockingly bad, there was a bride in our hotel who had her luggage lost (we checked the essentials in for the wedding as hand luggage). We had flight delays, check in problems, you name it."

"just returned home after 2 weeks at this hotel, well, what can we say, it was just perfect in every way the staff were so polite, the food was excellent, the hotel was so clean, and we stayed in the biggest room ever. my 9 year old daughter was pleased she had a double bed to herself. while my husband and i had a queen size bed. i would highly recommend this hotel, perfect from start to finish of the holiday."

"Me and my husband spent a week her on our honeymoon - the hotel itself is 5 star all the away - the hotel decor, the accomodation, the food and the staff were easily the nicest people you could ever meet, especially the receptionists and the pool/bar attendants who couldnt do enough for you. The food was outstanding with the buffet breakfast to suit every ones taste! We had the time of our lives staying her and from what we saw to have your wedding there would be first class! Only downside was the long down hill walk to the beach and to eat and drink at the hotel was very expensive...But we loved our honeymoon, we loved the hotel and we just loved Cyprus...definately will be returning there some time!"

"This is our 5th holiday in Protarus. The Grecian Park is by far the best accomadation we have stayed in. The rooms, pool and public areas are all very clean . Bed linen is changed frequently and the rooms are serviced daily. You do not need to take shampoo, conditioner or soap as the hotel provides an excellent quality version of all of these items ( this saves a lot on luggage weight!) You do not need pool towels as the hotel provides clean, luxurious pool towels daily. Food and drinks are very expensive and you are not allowed to take your own food or drinks into the pool area, however there is a shop very close where you can go and buy drinks and drink them on your walk back to the pool. Brealfast is of an excellent standard with both English and continental choices. The restaurant staff are very willing to help and are very pleasant. I would reccomend a car so that you can drive to either Protarus or Ayia Napa to eat in the evening, a car will be more economical than the bus or taxi if you go regularly. Overall the Grecian park is idylic and i would reccomend it to any one of any age."

"Excellent choice. After refusing the first room we were offered we very quickly got another one with a brillant view. The room was very clean and the daily make-up very efficient (a little tip may be an advantage.) This time of the year neither the restaurant nor the pool area was crowded so we hat a very calm and pleasant stay. People at the reception, bar and restaurant were friendly and quick. The food was good and changed from day to day. As we had a late arrival we got a vaucher for a lunch which we could use a day of our choice. It might not be a 5-star hotel in the middle-european sense, but it was at least a 4-star+."

Just arrived back from our wedding / hol...
"Just arrived back from our wedding / holiday, drinking a glass of wine and reflecting back on an week of excellent accomodation, excellent food and tears of laughter. We were part of a group of 30 invited over to the Grecian Park hotel for a family wedding. Our son Max is nearly 2 1/2 years old and this was his first overseas holiday to date. Anyone with young children would be slightly anxious with regards to the standards and facility of the hotel you are due to stay at but we were extremely impressed with the Grecian Park & would definitely stay there again. Ok, it's not ever going to be 5 stars as you would expect in the uk but the rooms were spotless and well serviced, the ameneties were absolutely adequate and I would not agree with some previous reviews which stated that the sfaff were rude and unhelpful. We stayed on a B&B basis so I can't comment on the food other than the breakfast which was buffet style and offered everything any normal person could possibly want to eat. Our son Max tended to indulge in Coco Pops, Frankfurters, Strawberries & Toast with Greek honey. He is now twice the size than he was when we initially left for the uk ! The pool was very large and the area surrounding the pool including the gardens are very attractive and there are plenty of sunbeds & shades available for those post night party mornings. Tips: 1. The hotel bar prices are not cheap so go out of the hotel doors to the road , turn right, walk down the hill and go to the second taverna on the right with the tv screens. I can't remember the name of the bar but it is run by a guy called Tony, they welcome children, the drinks are well priced and the food is excellent. We didn't have one complaint within a group of 30 people' Go for the Mousaka, Dolmades or Sirloin Steak with Madeira Sauce, that's my tip and the Keo beer helps to compliment the whole experience. 2. The local beach is fantastic with water sports available for those more energetic than ourselves. The children loved it and could be left in full view to play in the sand and sea without coming to any harm. The local beach cafe offers food and drinks to keep you going although there is a steep walk down and obviously back up to the hotel which takes about 10 minutes. Take the road route if you've got a push chair. Summary before I go to bed: Although we were part of a really good group and went over for a wedding which I must say was superb and held within the hotel grounds (Well done Grecian Park) I do notice good service when I see it and this hotel ticked almost all the boxes for us all. We would recommend the hotel to anyone and if you do go to the Taverna down the hill from the hotel, say that it was Andy from the Elvis stag party that recommended him to you. Negatives: 1. A bit of a walk to the beach but worth the effort when you get there. 2. Hotel bar prices need to come down by a third to keep guest onsite in the evening. 3. My wife said that one of the barman was a miserable s**te but the other staff were all ok. 4. Some construction was going on outside the hotel at 8am but I suppose it has to be done at some time so not really a moan. All in all a great experience ... have fun. Andy (Surrey, UK)"

"The Grecian Park Hotel was fabulous, not only the rooms, food, views but the whole hotel was great. I stayed for 3 weeks there, and the weather was great every day, the views were gorgeous and the private beach area was always relaxing. Even though it got busier at weekends, the hotel was never too packed or noisy. If you're considering going here, I suggest you do as it's the best hotel Iâve been too in Cyprus and great value for money!"

"We got married last year at the Grecian Park and today is actually my 1st Wedding Anniversary. I can not tell you how many wonderful happy memories of not just our wedding day but of the hotel itself we have. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and we honestly felt special on our day. The rooms were always clean and sheets and towels changed daily, the pool and bar area was clean and the food was fantastic. We could not have chosen a better hotel and we are looking forward to returning soon. I watch my wedding DVD all the time as it makes it brings back wonderful memories. Anybody considering going to the Grecian Park for a wedding or just a relaxing holiday will not be disappointed!!! "

"We got married in Cyprus and had reception in the Grecian Park. Hotel was fab, food brilliant, everything was first class. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. All rooms air-conditioned and well presented, housekeeping everyday. A bit out from town centre if you don't mind walking, there is a courtesy bus to and from Ayia Napa from the hotel. Overall 10 out of 10..."
