An amazing hotel with staff that could n...
"An amazing hotel with staff that could not do enough for you. It is a little pricey but you are paying for the luxury.
The rooms were gorgeous, with balconies over looking the sea. The king size bed and having two bathrooms made it even better!
The hotel was immaculate and very clean. The location was perfect, just a short walk to the bus stop which takes you directly into Paphos or you are easily able to walk into Coral bay where there are plenty of places to eat and drink.
The beach is only a stones throw away and the sea is lovely and clear.
The only downside to this hotel is that there is so much to do in cyprus that we felt we didn't spend enough time enjoying all the hotel had to offer."

Great Hotel for luxury lovers
"We have spent some time searching for a small luxury hotel in Cyprus. Our priorities were: quiet, small, luxury and adult (no children). Itâs not that we donât like kids, but we thought it is quite difficult to relax when kids are running around or splashing in the swimming pool.
After reading some reviews on this website we have decided to try.
I must say the hotel exceeded our expectations. We needed transportation from Larnaca airport which is about 1.5 hours drive from the hotel and apparently hiring a butler includes the transfers and cheaper than a taxi. So we hired a butler just for two days.
To be honest if you are not used having someone following you all the time and want some quiet time together there is no need for butler at all.
Our mini residence had been upgraded for free (without asking ï ) to a double suite which we thought was great. We liked the dÃ©cor. It was very modern with some traditional colours. Having two bathrooms was superb.
There are two restaurants which we both liked. Food is not cheap, but no more expensive than similar quality restaurants in London.
Grilled Sea Bass with mushroom puree is a must.
The hotel was half empty which was fine with us, so we didnât have problems with pool decks or any other facilities.
There is a bit noisy on the sun-set side of the hotel (facing the car park), but it was only during the day, so it didnât bother us.
You can really appreciate the hotel if you go to Paphos or the sister hotel with all the noise and lots of people and than come back to Thalassaâs cool and relaxing bar area. You can really feel the difference.
The staff and the service was very good. We can't fault it in any way.
Overall we really enjoy our stay and would definitely come back one day."

Relaxation, Service & Style
"At the end of May my wife & I stayed at the Hotel Thalassa to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. this was our first holiday without our son and we were looking for an enjoyable & relaxing week. The Hotel Thalassa provided this in spades.
This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in and we have been lucky enough to have stayed in a few.
1. When I e-mailed the hotel prior to visit to make some special arrangements for our anniversary I recieved prompt & courteous responses from the management team.
2. The location is spectacular on this unspolit headland with excellent views of Coral Bay and with plenty of distance from the tourist orientated strip of Coral Bay.
3. Our room was the standard room which whilst not huge was not cramped with very nice furnishings and a lovely bathroom. There were bigger rooms if you wanted them.
4. The service was excellent but relaxed and not overbearing. We did not have a butler that came with some of the rooms but we did not find that we were neglected in any way. The staff were all very friendly & welcoming.
5. The food was excellent breakfast, lunch & dinner. The fish restaurant overlooking the sea was lovely & the food superb. Aristos the the restaurant manager was excellent. We would also recommend the beach bar run by Chris which provided excellent food & drinks at slightly lower prices - great for lunch.
6. The facilities were also excellent with a very nice pool, plenty of very comfortable sun loungers & tables and a small but well equipped gym.
7. The spa facilities and staff were also superb and the treatments were very enjoyable and good value.
8. The layout and the decor was very stylish with lovely lighting, furniture & ambience.
9. The general manager was also highly visible and took great pride in ensuring his hotel met your expectations.
10. We would go back at the drop of a hat. Especially if the weather was as perfect as it was when we were there."

"Lovely Spa hotel. Really relaxing with attentive staff. The Spa is very calming. It's sister hotel (which is a large, family hotel with lots going on) is right next door but it doesn't feel like it when you are at the Thalassa.
The Suites are very spacious with good decor and furnishings and his and hers bathrooms! toiletries are lovely and regularly replenished. we had a suite with a balcony overlooking the swimming pool and the sea, which was nice to relax in before going out in the evening.
the pool side menu was pricey but most 5* hotels are.
We planned to sightsee around Paphos but decided against it as the Thalassa was so relaxing and it was a shame to leave!!! Would definitely go back."

Thalassa - Simply the Best
"My spouse and I stayed for one week in late May. We did not want to leave.
From the first contact we made via e-mail through to checkin, service, hospitality, amenities, location etc, all could not be faulted.
From the general manager, Pambos Michael and his assistant Irene, through to the excellent Stavros - the dining room manger, and indeed all of the hotel staff we have nothing but praise. They all made us feel as if we were a guest in someone's luxurious home.
We elected not to have a butler. However, this made not one iota of difference to us as all the staff were so attentive. Indeed, we initially thought the butler system was not in operation as the service was so discreet.
Features such as the invitaions to the manager's cocktail hour and wine tasting events added greatly to the experience.
We found many local restaurants to sample which were only a short drive in the villages outside the Coral bay tourist strip.
In short, we loved the hotel and will be back next year and it can't come soon enough!!!!"

"The Thalassa. It is simple to review. From start to finish, it was a pleasure to be there. Spotless everywhere, attentive staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. Food was of a good standard, beautiful pool and view over the bay. Our one bedroom suite was enormous, large enough for a family, let alone two prople. I watched on several occasions during our time there as the manager did a discreet tour checking that all was up to scratch, and things that he found not to be (small nit picks) were put right at once. The most important question is, would I return........the answer is, I was gutted to have to come home."

Pretensions of being a 5 star hotel
"The Thalassa has pretensions of being a 5* spa hotel but makes hard work of it with little result. Yes the setting is good, on the edge of a peninsula with the sea on 3 sides. The deckchairs are modern and stylish and the hotel is new and in good condition. There is a good looking spa and indoor pool, and a modern (but sparse gym).
But the bedrooms are cheaply furnished and although all have balconies, most of these overlook either the car park, or the ventilation and sewage processing areas. Our balcony was next to a pillar, and so it didnât get any sunshine at any time of day. The hotel was only half full, and yet they declined to move our room. If you are going to book here, make sure you request a room with pool view.
The menus are expensive â even the bar and pool menu, with a simple pitta and chips topping Â£20. Service is awkward and not very good â when youâve had your meal your plate will sit by your deck chair for a couple of hours. Around the hotel itâs a bit of a dump â concrete buildings, dust roads, no charming tavernas but more Dickâs Bar and OâNeillâs pub. We struggled to find anywhere decent or simple to go out.
We loved the little carved out area by the sea â lots of privacy and a great view for sunbathing. But of the 8 deckchairs available, most were usually reserved (with reserved signs!) by 9am. We soon realised it was the hotel driving this â they operate a butler system. If you have a butler, they will go around reserving deck chairs and tennis courts (the only hotel tennis court was booked out from 4-6pm â i.e. nightfall - for the whole week we were there, all for the same person). The butlers will go and get cushions and towels for their guestsâ chairs, but not for anyone else. The result is that things get booked up at the beginning of the week and if you donât have a butler the service is actually pretty poor.
The hotel also has a sister hotel next door with more tennis courts, squash court etc. They often pointed us in that direction. But itâs a much lower quality hotel, the tennis courts are full of cracks, the balls donât bounce properly. The squash court charged Â£10 to rent rackets for an hour (even though one of the rackets was broken).
Needless to say we werenât happy. On the first night we asked to speak with the manager and were told he would get in touch. The request was repeated a few times. He came to speak to us on the last night and gave my wife a key-ring. It was a little late by then to address any of our concerns.
For an expensive hotel with big ambitions it was a very disappointing experience."

Thalassa - fantastic experience
"I can't understand the reviewer who had a bad experience at Thalassa. We have just returned and found the hotel and the staff top class. I will deal with a few of the previous reviewer's points in my review :-
First when we arrived we were told that all rooms booked through Sovereign have a personal butler (be careful who you book with !). Our butler was there to greet us on arrival and then provided attentive service throughout our stay. This included restaurant suggestions, arranging special meals with the best tables in the house, complimentary drinks and gifts, attentive pool service, getting us papers and even batteries for my ipod speakers .... I could go on but you get the picture - they really are at your beck and call. Anything you need.
On arrival we asked for a complimentary room upgrade from a mini to a double residence (if you don't ask you don't get !). No problem at all. This would have been over Â£1000 with Sovereign but Thalassa's policy is to say yes to every request. We were given the sunset side of the hotel which was in our opinion the best side. See attached photies which contradict the earlier reviewer. Yes, there is a car park and another hotel to the back of Thalassa and looking at the reviewer's photo he must have been at the back to the right. I still think he is being picky with his photo. If he'd have pointed his camera to the left I expect he would have taken photographs similar to mine. Even if this was not the case why didn't he ask to move immediately? When we were there one couple moved 3 times. No problems at all until they found the room to suit.
Food - we've been to some of the best restaurants in the world - Cliff (Barbados), Blue Penny (Mauritius), Claridges (London) etc. The food at the main restaurant in Thalassa I would rate as very good and the fish restaurant is excellent.
Room service - towels were clean, very clean and replaced 2-3 times a day. The room was excellent with two bathrooms , a double balcony , massive double bed, two mini-bars, two tvs, two dvds, living room with suede designer suites.... very trendy.
The spa was top class, the gym smallish but with new equipment. The gym overlooks the indoor pool. There is also a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi.
The pool service was top class (from our butler of course) but even couples without a butler were offered prompt first class service from the army of waitors and waitresses that were constantly walking around. All the staff were very friendly and very attentive. The service compared to your best hotels in Thailand and Mauritius although there were a few communication problems.
I agree about the boats with singing and music playing but it wasn't every day and to be honest it wasn't very loud. We actually found it amusing. The pool area was generally relaxing and quiet.
The manager spoke to all guests to ask them of their opinion of the hotel and told us that whatever we want we can have. Just come and ask him.
As you have probably gathered by now we enjoyed this hotel. We are used to going long haul from England to find hotels that provide the best service. We have not found service to equal this in and around the med before this holiday. We have now.

Does what it says on the tin!
"I have just read the most recent review posted on 19 September 2005. I have just returned from staying at the Thalassa and could not fault it in any way. The service was excellent throughout and it certainly qualified as luxury so far as I was concerned. All of the staff were very friendly and solicitious from the chamber maid to the senior management. I experienced no problems either with cleanliness or restaurant service.
I was staying in a superior residence with a butler and a spa package - it may be with the Thalassa, as with all things, you get what you pay for! I certainly don't begrudge a penny of what I spent and will definitely return!"

Not What it Says on the Brochures
"Well, Thalassa is small, parts of it are luxurious and we still don't know what a boutique hotel really is. We have just returned from a half empty Thalassa after a two week stay which ended with a lengthy discussion with their new General Manager who, to his credit, made good efforts to recompense us for our problems.
First, the hotel location. Yes, it is on a clifftop over looking a quiet bay (except for the tourist boats visiting nearly daily playing loud music) but on the other side, just 100m away, is its 450 bed sister hotel which shares some facilities. All rooms on the "sunset" side of the Thalassa overlook both the hotel car park and this very large hotel complete with its poolside tannoy annoucements and bingo games. So - if you want quiet solitude, don't go. See the pictures for the reality.
Second, when the hotel opened, all 58 rooms had butler service, indeed our reservation (made in January) told us we had one. This is no longer the case, now only the 20 or so suites and superior rooms get butlers, something we were not told in advance. This creates a very two tier class system at the hotel, with butler guests getting better service pretty much everywhere. One example; when we arrived at nearly midnight, we were ignored in favour of a couple with a butler arriving shortly after us. The lack of a butler also meant that we were not given any real details on what the hotel had to offer and no tour of the place. Given that the hotel states it will do pretty much anything you want for you, some information on what is around would be useful.
Thirdly, the general operational standard. We had a a litany of faults from dirty towels being delivered as clean (it appears that the same towels are used in both bathrooms and the pool), sparkling wine being served flat repeatedly, being served tuna when we ordered swordfish from the menu, only to be told "the chef thought they were the same", salads requested with no dressing turning up covered in oil, all the glasses and cups being removed from the bedroom, room consumables such as tea and toiletries not being replenished, a beach bar/grill that they had closed and not told anyone, I could go on - we filled two pages with issues for the General Manager.
Finally - don't book a Mini Residence if you want a reasonably sized room that is different, they are pretty much like any corporate hotel and very small. We were very disappointed when we opened our curtains and saw our view was a hotel and a car park. We raised our concern (especially as the hotel seemed no more than half full the entire time we were there) and were offered a change to a room under the fish restaurant and over the beacj bar. When the issues finally went to far, we were offered a room upgrade and butler by the Ops Manager, but that was not the point - and we only had 4 days left anyway. Would a butler have made sure that my water glass by my bedside was actually cleaned away each morning rather than being left, half full, all day?
All this having been said, the hotel has a great pool and bar area, one of the best Spa's we have ever been to, and some great staff. Cyprus also has fantastic weather.
Had we known about the closeness of the other hotel, we would not have booked, we go for small, quiet hotels, which we believed Thalassa to be. However, if the new GM gets the place organised, it could be good for you if you don't mind sharing the area with 1000 or so other people."

Service with more than a smile!!!
"We spent two night at Thalassa in August this year, the place was empty (bar a few journalists getting free stays) as it had not long been open. During your stay you have your own 24hr butler (ours was Frank) I cannot do service to the hotel or the service of the butlers in this review, but can only say if you have stayed at The Burj in Dubai you will love this place - without the gold!!!
I must also mention Hunter the head chief, his food was out of this world and if quiet will produce a favourite dish as we requested. The hotel is managed by an ex Soneva Fushi/ Gilli manager so for those not wanting to do the 12 hour flight give this place a try it really does take some beating."
