Our stay at Avanti
"Lovely hotel immaculate, beds made and towels changed every day. Food varied different theme each night. Lovely grounds and plenty sun beds, cheap and frequent bus service into town. I am a cat lover so loved seeing and feeding the many cats at this hotel, if you dont like cats hard luck. But very concerned about what will happen to the many cats when the hotel closes for the winter on November 25th.Does anyone know what happens to the cats then? "

"I have been meaning to write a review for some time as we stayed at the Avanti Hotel in June 2008 and I've finally got round to sharing my views! It's a shame to hear more recent negative reviews about the Avanti, perhaps it has changed since I was there but I loved the hotel, the pool area was especially great (with a swim up bar so you can sit in the water with a cocktail!). We went just before the summer holidays so it wasn't too crowded. The rooms were cleaned daily and every evening as we left to walk to the town/Harbour for dinner, there was someone cleaning out the pool. We only had breakfast at the hotel and there was a great selection, cereals, pastries, fruit salads, fry ups, toast, etc. If you're not a cat fan, don't feed the cats as they will wander around but I thought they were cute! For dinner we headed down to the harbour where the fish restaurants are fantastic! I would also highly recommend the Rib Shack near to the hotel, we ate there twice! Hotel entertainment is ok for children early on in the evening but we tended to have a drink on the porch at the hotel after we returned from dinner as there is a lot more else to see in Paphos! The walk in to the town is nice if you are able bodied (we are both in our mid-late twenties), but it may be a little too tiring on a daily basis for the elderly but there are buses. There's the harbour for a relaxing meal or bar street for the clubbers (you can easily avoid Bar Street if it's not for you, it's very separate). We had a meeting with the holiday reps and organised a coach trip to a water park in Limassol (very fun!) and got the bus numbers/times which meant we could take the bus up to the market and Coral Bay beach which is lovely! We also visited the Tombs of the Kings and are planning our next visit where we want to see the Mosaics. All in all we had a lovely holiday and felt Paphos had a lot to offer for all ages. We are planning our next trip there (my partners parents went to the Avanti on our recommendation 2 months later and enjoyed it) with the whole family and hope our stay will be equally as special!"

Xmas & New Year
"Was really looking forward to our holiday, but what a let down this was we did not find out until we arrived that the hotel was closing for refurbishment on the 8/1/2009 we were returning on the 7/1/2009 next ut last to leave the hotel. Food breakfast was being cooked at 6.30 in the morning and put out therefore leaving it being kept warm in a bai marie as guests were not coming down for breakfast till around 8.30 till 10.00, eggs had a skin forming on them and bacon overcooked. evening meals at times what was advertised on board was not served and salads were all mixed together and no lettuce or tomatoes were served separate, also on new years day the evening meal was definately left overs from the previous night. There was a cypriot wedding held on a Saturday night which took preference to hotel guests who were shipped into another room which I can only say related to a transport cafe I think that as the hotel was closing they were running it down, also there was not much entertainment the bloke called adel should have been called the scarlet pimpernel, we could not fault the housekeeping as towels and bed linen was changed regularly. Would just point out that wll never return to this hotel again. "

"After booking a family room at the Avanti hotel I was shocked to be given a small room containing a double bed with a set of bunk beds at the foot of the double bed. The booking was made for two adults and two 12 year old children. I voiced my disaproval and was told that if I wanted an upgrade to the family room it would cost. I viewed the family room which was marginally bigger. I then asked to be moved to the Avanti apartments, this cost me 240 Euros. I found the apartments modern however the bar area lacked atmosphere. The entertainment staff were good in encouraging daily games for the children. The catering staff I found were a little bit grumpy particularly at breakfast time. The other problem I had, as did many, was arranging a late checkout, this was eventually arranged however only down to the Avanti hotel receptionist (English lady) as the Avanti apartment receptionist told me it was impossible and could not assist. The cleaning of the apartment was not fantastic and the sheets were not changed, however the beds were made using the same sheets. Not what I expected. If you do go please use the Old Irish pub and JO's restaurant which is next door this was the best food in the area and the family run atmosphere was brilliant. "

"We went and stayed with a group of 60 for a dance holiday. The hotel common rooms and gardens are in good condition but the rooms are looking a little tired. The cleaning service was very good but the service in the bar, the restaurant and breakfast room was not good. However, it did improve after our rep spoke to the manager. The breakfast choice was poor and I agree with the previous comment about a fresh ( !) fruit alternative. The dinner menu excelled at salads but was poor for hot dishes. "

"My family of 10 consisting of children and grandchildren booked the Avanti Village-3 apartments, to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. Our future daughter-in-law is a Travel Counsellor and she emailed the resort to let them know of our special celebration and to introduce herself. She had a very friendly email from the owner of the resort. However a few days before our trip she had an email stating that the village was closed for the winter and we were to be moved to the hotel with a complimentary breakfast. She emailed our concerns regarding the numbers in the bedrooms and requested 5 rooms with connecting doors. She had a phone call from Savvos, the manager, assuring her that the rooms would have extra beds for the children and upgraded to poolside views. On arrival the rooms were excellent, extra beds for the children, champagne and fruit plus a sea, pool and garden view. There were only 6 rooms on our corridor so the children were delighted to run on messages to all the rooms. We were also shown around the village which was fabulous. The owner, Georgios, and all his staff made us very welcome. The hotel was VERY clean, the breakfast buffet had something for everyone, the staff were friendly and helpful. There were plenty of bars and restaurants near the hotel and the children were made to feel welcome at all of them. We ate at The Ribshack, Rendezvous and Theo's Seafood at the Harbour where the children were made to feel special- the chap a "front of house" picked up on our Welsh accent and greeted us with Croeso, Nos Dda! which amazed our grandchildren!!! I would highly recommend the Avanti particularly the village for families as the amenities are the same as the hotel. Due to the lateness of our holiday there were no extra facilities for the children so I would go a little earlier but not in high summer. There was a problem with the arranged transport from the airport but a call to Travel Counsellors Head Office resulted in a full refund- the firm was spot on for all aspects of the holiday."

"This was an outstanding holiday. The accommodation was very clean, modern, and spacious. The room was close to the centre. The restaurants are excellent value for money. There is a wide variety of freshly prepared food. The price of the holiday is expensive the entrainment and activities which are included represent excellent value for money. Room service was efficient daily. Towels and bed linen changed each day. The resort is bust with a varied range of activities for all ages and all weather conditions. The beech is sandy and the sea shallow. The beach is close to the resort. The swimming pools are large and clean. There are children areas in the pools and they are well supervised by life guards. All in all an outstanding resort and holiday."

"Just got back from a very relaxing 6 nights at the Avanti. Our first night was spent in the Avanti village, but the next day Savvas the manager moved us to the Avanti hotel instead. We were reluctant at first because we wanted the self catering facilities of the village, but Savvas upgraded us to B&B and gave us a large family room on the 5th floor, wonderful views. The hotel is very clean; our room was cleaned every day. The towels were also changed every day. Pool towels are available if you want them. There was a kettle and fridge in our room. Breakfast is buffet style. Tasted better, but there was a lot to choose from. It was very quiet while we were there. The hotel was almost empty, mostly older people. Our 2 year old was the only child in the hotel, so everyone made a fuss of her! The outdoor pool was too cold but the indoor pool is heated. Both were very clean. Lots of daytime activities if you want them, but none for kids. Evening entertainment not great, locals singing, parrot show, bingo and quiz night! The beach is about 10 mins walk away and the harbour about 30 mins. Lots of bars, cafes, restaurants to choose from. Halloumi cheese sandwiches a must! Buses very cheap if you want to go and explore. The bird and animal park was great. Also recommend the aquarium as a cool place to get out of the sun for a bit, even in November the weather is great! Lots of ancient sights to look at. Have a look at the "rag tree" quite spooky! Will definitely be going back. The only thing that spoiled the holiday was the flights. 6 and a half hour delay flying out and 24 hours coming home. Two different "first choice" planes both developed serious problems. Lots of stress, tears, and angry passengers. Very unhelpful reps. do not book with first choice or fly on their planes."

"We have just visited the Avanti Hotel Paphos. We were sold this hotel as a 4star plus. In my opinion it was little better than a 3 star. Breakfast is limited and if you want a healthy variety, fresh fruit consisted of melon, dried prunes and tinned cocktail fruit! Staff do not set the tables and you have to get your own cutlery and crockery if you can find it. Dinner was the worst I have had in any hotel. Desserts were a joke (tinned fruit cocktail in jelly) plus a couple of other equally poor quality options. We have stayed in Paphos several times at other 4 star hotels but in my opinion this was not of the same standard. The entertainment was similar to listening to the out cuts of the Xfactor. The hotel is clean and the rooms are nice. Customer care training for the staff could improve overall moral. Overall - never again. "
