"I will start by letting you know that this trip was my 30th visit to paphos. I started going with my parents as a child and continue to visit to date. I have stayed in many hotels and apartments over the years and will be truthfull in all i say.

FLIGHT - We travelled with easy jet from manchester, we booked the flight and hotel seperate through hotels 4 u which was fine and much cheaper than else where. We had a 30 minute delay there and 30 minute back, we also didnt realise that you dont get assigned a seat unless you pay extra, its a free for all so if you want to sit together make sure your at the front of the que! Paphos airport has changed alot, much bigger and nicer than the old shack with a good duty free and outside beer garden/smoking area. It cost us 30 euros to the hotel and 30 euros back, if you stay coral bay end it will cost alot more.

HOTEL - We arrived at the hotel at 10.30pm, very easy check in as their were only two of us. We had decided to pay the extra before we left so we had a superior room. The room was a nice size, comfy queen size bed and shower room (no bath). The televison was on the wall the other side of the bed and was only small, difficult to see if you are watching tv from bed, not that we did that much. There was also a large decked balcony with two sun beds and table and chairs over looking the pool. I must say that we did see the other rooms and they are basic with the brown furniture that you et in most hotels, ours was much nicer however if we go back i would just pay for the normal room as we only slept in it !
The hotel itself was small but nice, very clean with plenty of sunbeds around the pool. There is a dining room that serves breakfast and meals all day, along with sky tv for the football. The pool area is a good size/ not massive though but that just means its not freezing cold when you get in it, lovely temperature.
Whilst we were there it got as hot as 38 degrees so the pool area was a lovely place to sit and relax.
We also ate a couple of times at the bar which was very nice and costs the same as if you were to go out for lunch. The breakfast was a buffett style and cereal, sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, melon and fruit. Very nice.
Also on the noise front, we did hear noice on our first night but it was not very loud and found it easy enough to get to sleep, after the first night we heard nothing, very peacefull.
The hotel is just off the main nightlife street, its an excellent location to explore paphos without having to take a taxi. Its about 10 mins to the harbour, thats walking and there are plenty of things to see along the way.

OUTSIDE HOTEL - Paphos has become very very quiet! We headed to Linikers, the new bar on nightlife street when we arrived and it was packed. However this was due to the england match being on!! The rest of the week we were there nightlife street was like a ghost town, probably 30 people in the bar!! We spent our nights at Linikers as it is the nicest, cleanest bar and very friendly. Drinks are very expensive, a local malibu and coke and keo costs 10 euros, (thats every where, there are no cheap drinks anymore) so if you want a big night, take a lot of money. Saying that if you get to know the very friendly staff and ask for offers such as 2-4-1 on drinks they will do it most of the time, as long as you keep it to yourself!!
We ate out every night and again this is very expensive. Not like it used to be when they had the pound. For a two course meal and two drinks (one of which was coke) we were paying between 40 and 60 euros a night. We took alot of spending money but managed to spend 650 euros in the first 3 days.
We ate at happy island which was lovely, the new chinese on the main road, again gorgeous but we most enjoyed the resturant opposite Linikers which was gorgeous, very friendly, fresh gorgeous food and the cheapest of all our meals, would definatly recommend it to anyone!!

CORAL BAY - We got a taxi from the hotel to coral bay, beware, this is very expensive, it cost 40 euros there and back, you can get the bus from the main road 2 mins from the hotel, however that can take about 45mins, i guess its down to choice!!
The beach is very clean with clear waters to swim in, very cold tho. There is alot of seaweed at the moment to but you can still get into the sea with ease. The sand is very very hot, shoes a must. There are plenty of water sports also. The resturants at the beach are also very expensive but there are cafes up the street in coral bay to eat or get a drink.

Overall we enjoyed are holiday, loved the hotel and the food we ate was very nice. All i would say is not to go to paphos for a cheap holiday and look around before you book. We paid £1000 for a week self catering flights and hotel however we chose to upgrade our room. We could of gone half board in the same hotel for around £750 total. That is what we will do next time we stay at the anemi as eating out really does stretch the budget!!"

"Although the hotel is clean and staff are pleasant, this hotel is let down by location. We were kept awake all nites by boy racers driving their cars with squeeling tyres until 4.30 am. The hotel is also near nite clubs so we were kept awake by music and arguments on the street at nite. "

Anemi Hotel and Apartments

Reviewed Fri 21st of November 2008

"My son recently told me he was getting married in Paphos next year, so when First Choice e-mailed me details of a good deal at the Anemi Hotel we just had to go. I wanted to look at a large villa for the family for next year so this seemed a good way to do it.
We had a one bedroomed apartment which was cleaned five days a week and clean towels left on these occasions. Air conditioning was free of charge there was a television with basic channels if you wanted satellite channels these were extra, didn't bother so don't know charge for this. We didn't use the bar or restaurant at the hotel so can't comment on these but we spoke to people who did and they said the food was good but a little expensive. The only down side of this hotel was there were some building work going on so was a bit noisy. Also our balcony looked out onto the street which was opposite a night club (The Loft) although we didn't really hear much noise from that maybe in the summer more people may go so could be noisy then. Try to get a room over looking the pool if possible these are quieter.
Paphos itself is a big place not the sort of place you could get around in a day, there are nomourous bars, restaurants and shops. A lot of restaurants did set 3 course meals for between 10 and 17 euros. Our favourite was Adelania - not sure if thats how its spelt which is almost opposite Alexander The Great Hotel. The food here is very good 3 courses plus free wine per each couple for 14.50 euros. I ordered sea bream in there one night I though I would just get a fish steak but I got a whole fish. Steak is also on the menu and you get complementary liquers with the bill very good value it gets busy so its best to book. We ate out most nights and didn't have a bad meal. Watch out for time share touts they even come along on motor bikes. We had lovely weather for November we went to the beach and sat round the pool the temperture was around 25c. We hired a car so didn't use public transport but saw buses around. We only had rain when we first arrived in the evening so it didn't spoil anything. We will be returning for the wedding next year but would go back if there wasn't a wedding, similar to greek islands where we usually go but different somehow. "

central location

Reviewed Thu 20th of December 2012

"Just returned from a 2 week say at the Anemi with my boyfriend. The apartments are centrally located, 30 second walk to Bar Street, although we did not hear any noise during our stay, but this may have been because it was early in the season. Yes there is a topless bar a few yards away (on the corner of Bar Street), but again we did not experience any noise.

We had a one bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor which was spacious & had English plug sockets. Bathroom was adequate and so was the bedroom. Beds were very uncomfortable though. My boyfriend came home with back ache and he usually never has any problems. We spoke to one other guest and she also said the beds were uncomfortable. Clean towels & bedding were provided daily apart from Sundays & Mondays. There was always plenty of hot water for a shower or bath. There was a TV in the room but you have to pay £2 per day, together with a £10 deposit which you get back when you hand your remote control back. There is also a safe in the room which worked out to £23 for 2 weeks (which included a £5 deposit).

The pool area was nice, with plenty of sunbeds. The downside of sitting by the pool was the noise of a jetwash. Hire cars are being jetwashed in the carpark next to the Anemi throughout the day. This was a daily occurrence and started as early at 8.30am sometimes. One guest did complain to reception and the noise promptly stopped, but started up the next day! One thing to consider if you want peace and quiet!

We never ate in the Anemi so can't comment on the food it served. There are plenty of eating places on the main high street to choose from. We found Le Place Royale do the cheapest breakfast - £1.40 between 10-12. We had nice dinners at the Oasen Restaurant - fantastic service and a large menu to choose from. There is also MacDonalds, Pizza Hut & KFC!!

We noticed that a new bar/club is opening a stone's throw away from the front entrance of the Anemi. It was still being renovated when we were there, but I should imagine once its open, it could be quite noisy.

Overall the apartments were adequate. You did get the odd noisy guest slamming their doors at night or early hours of the morning which woke us up, but apart from that we did not experience any problems. Having said that, we will not be returning to the Anemi a second time.

Overall I would say that if you want a basic apartment that is centrally located, then the Anemi is ideal."

Reviewed Sun 22nd of April 2007

"This was my 6th visit to Cyprus and by far the Anemi hotel was the worst!

The room we were given was absolutely filthy. The shower cubicle was caked in mould, the toilet was dirty and the towels were stained along with the linen on the bed.

The 'balcony area' had also not been washed for some time as there were cigarette butts left on the floor along with a squashed orange? (How the cleaners could miss this I don’t know!)

In addition to this we had a fridge that was covered in grease and rust, some areas of the wall was crumbling off, and we had an electrical box that exposed several dangerous wires.

All in all I can honestly say I have stayed in cleaner youth hostels!

Building works:

We were given no indication as to any building works going on in the area let along works being done on the Anemi hotels entrance itself and all of the pavements in its street.

This was quite annoying as they were prompt to start at 7am, and after the nightclub noise only finishing at 4am this was the last thing we needed!

Local bars:

If you like pubs and clubs that are open until the early hours this may be
the hotel for you! There are an abundance of local bars in the immediate area, with two nightclubs opposite the hotel along with several strip clubs within spitting distance!

Needless to say we did not attempt to eat the breakfast at the Anemi. As the food in the local pubs/bars was not that great we used to take a short bus ride (10 minutes) up the road where the restaurants were much better.

The locals recommend eating at 'Fat Mamas' which is 'the best in Paphos'! Another great place to eat is the Romantica restaurant which is also very reasonably priced, along with 'The Elephant' (Coral Bay) which is also very good.

The buses in the area are very reliable and cost just £1 each way and it will take you from one side of Paphos to the other if you wish.

First choice reps:

After raising our concerns with the rep about the state of our room, the noise and the building works, she was absolutely adamant that it would cost us at least £1000 Cypriot pounds to move hotels, and she proved to be less than helpful in trying to relocate us.

Therefore we took it upon ourselves to move to the 'Riu Cypria Bay' just 5 minutes taxi ride away, this hotel I cannot fault and would recommend to anyone; great room, hotel, facilities, location, food, staff, are all excellent.

Overall, Paphos is a lovely area and I would recommend a holiday there just not in the Anemi hotel!!"

Hated the Anemi

Reviewed Fri 26th of October 2012

"We have just returned from a weeks holiday in Paphos.

We spent just the 1 night at the Anemi hotel and felt it was neccessary to move!

Our room was filthy; dirty floors, stained linen and towels, mouldy shower room, dirty sink and toilet, cigarette butts and orange left on balcony, rusty fridge just to name a few.

The hotel itself is dated and in need of some repair, cleanliness is not its fortey. Dont get me wrong I love animals but draw a line with sharing my sunlounger with stray cats.

The location was great if you like clubbing as there are two nightclubs opposite the hotel along with plenty of strip clubs within a stones throw!

Also at the moment there is plenty of building work going on, even on the entrance of the Anemi itself along with all of the pavements in its street.
This soon answered our question as to why we were dropped off at the back of the hotel in a car park, and had to enter the hotel through the back entrance past the pool area!

However, I would recommend a holiday in the Paphos area just Not at the Anemi!!"

"when we first arrived I must admit was a little worried by surroundings as bars nearby very noisy and as previous reviewer states a topless bar, however my fears soon faded, our apartment was spotlessley clean and the staff could not have been more helpfull, our room (overlooking a residential area) was a peacefull haven and we did not experience any resort noise. The apartments are well located for those wanting to be
close to the resort facilities and was only a short walk from the lovely harbour. The best feature of the apartments was the great pool the children loved it and as it is not too large it felt safe letting the children spalsh around as they were never out of site(although the pool is deep so not suitable for non swimmers although there is a paddling pool for little ones) and even though peak season we had no problem finding a sunbed. The bar also served nice snacks especially the pancakes , meze and cypriot pizza!"
