Friendly Hotel Good Base to Stay
"We have been staying at the Blue Crane for the past 17 years, sometimes visiting twice a year. The staff are very friendly, this hotel is a family run business, and it shows in the welcome you recieve everytime we return. Over the years the hotel has needed a facelift, nothing drastic, but people have to remember this hotel is open all the year round. The Blue Crane has now had a facelift and looks lovely from the outside, the rooms have all been refurbished, with new fridges etc. Even though the hotel needed a refurbishment we have never found the hotel dirty as some people have said. This hotel is on a main road and can be noisy at night, having said that once the doors are closed it's not a problem. For those who claim the air conditioning doesnt work, this has never been a problem for us. If it doesnt work, why don't they tell reception. There are many Bars and Restaurants very close to this hotel, with a bus stop accross the road, going into the town is not a problem, where you can find many shops and big stores, also the old town is worth having a look at. Hiring a car is a must to visit the island and some of the beautiful beaches, driving is very easy as they drive on the same side as the UK. Hiring a car is very reasonable. Back in April we paid £110.00 for one week. If you want 5* accommodation don't go to this hotel. We think of this hotel as our second home. How anyone can say the family are not friendly beggers belief. If your friendly with them they are friendly with you. If you have a problem report it, don't complain on HW when you get back! Many people return year after year to this hotel, that says it in itself. "

Value for money
"We visit Cyprus regularly and have stayed in many different appartments and hotels. From our experience we would point to those complaining about the Blue Crane that if they are not satisfied with the most acceptable standard that we found, then they should expect to pay a far higher price for the quality of accommodation that they require. We shall certainly be paying them a return visit. "

Do not stay here!
"After booking a last minute holiday for myself my wife and child before her return to school we opted for the blue crane apartments. This was the worst mistake anyone could have made. We arrived late at night/early morning and was grunted at by the night porter when we entered our room (107) we found it unusual to have a carpeted bedroom. Even more unusual was the fact there was toe nail clippings all over it. The next day after getting up we noticed that the entire room was filthy and dated. The air conditioning leaked from the ceiling causing my 4 year old daughter to slip on the floor qand badly bruise her side. The shower temperature in our room couldn't be regulated so it scolded everytime we used it. The so called snack and pool side bar that was stated in the brochure doesn't exist. In the whole week we were ther it wasn't opened once. The hotel states that it has nightly entertainment, its a lie. The only entertainment that was on offer was when someone mistakenly switched the radio on! "

Blue Crane Apartments are Great
"We come to Limassol a couple of times a year and have stayed in the Blue Crane apartments since 2005, we have had great times. The apartments , pool and areas are spotlessly clean, the family owners and staff are friendly and will do their best to make your stay an enjoyable one. we come her to chill out and visit friends. the apartments are clean but basic they do not have entertainment but you are close enough to get to bars, restaurants within walking distance, or shrot taxi ride to teh 'tourist area'. we have met some great friends and often meet up year after year. hi to Annie, Barb and norm , Colin, kim and Co. Also a big Hi to Nick ( the pool boy, only joking!!!) . we look forward to coming back again in May 2009. see you soon "

dirty hotel rude staff
"I stayed at Blue Crane with my husband and 3 children from 1st to 15th October. This hotel is not a 4 star as previously stated at best it is a very shabby 2 star. The staff are rude and made our stay very unpleasant. We arrived late after a very long tiring journey (we had to fly from Manchester as previously booked through xl)on checking in she gestured to my children and advised that she had not been informed that there was an infant in the party (but we later found a cot in the room?? so my eldest was forced to spend the night in a different apartment to us. Not a great start to the holiday but we were determined not to let it ruin it so we started our holiday the following morning. As we had booked our Bed and Breakfast we went down for our breakfast and the owner was very rude to my son as he put his dry toast on the table cloth instead of on his plate he came over and slammed his toast on the plate. Also there was no high chairs for my baby so she had to eat her meals in her push chair dropping crumbs on the floor which were never cleaned up in the whole of our stay. We were still determined to enjoy our holiday so went out of our way to be polite and courteous to the staff as we did not want an atmosphere. We took our empties back to the bar and tidied our breakfast plates up. However this was not reciprocated by the staff and they maintained their rude and ignorant attitude throughout our stay. The rooms were very dirty and in the bedroom area had a big stain on carpet (room 109) that looked like vomit. There were brown stains all over the walls which resembled excrement. The shower sprayed water all over the bathroom and as the floors were tiled made it very slippy and dangerous, so the excess water was mopped up by the bath towels. After a few days they became crusty and smelly and as the maids had not brought any clean ones since our arrival we were forced to go to reception and ask for some more, to which we were rudely told "no" and they went on to say that they only get changed twice a week. As there was only 3 large and 3 small towels between 5 of us and they were not only used to dry ourselves but also to mop up the floor after the shower, this was hardly sufficient. So my husband argued the case with him and was eventually given clean towels. This was on the Sunday, as we still hadn't received any clean towels by the Friday of the following week my husband actually took the towels down to reception for them to smell. the receptionist was just as rude as usual and eventually gave my husband clean towels. The shower was eventually fixed the following day 10 days into our holiday. We were unable to allow our 1 year old to go into the childrens pool the whole stay as it was never cleaned it was full of dirt, sweet packets and papers. My husband was forced to get a cockroach out of the main pool and I never once saw the pool area being cleaned. There was supposed to be a pool side bar but there was never anyone serving so you were forced to go inside for a drink. Outside the hotel was a very busy road that was used every night as a strip for the boy racers and was very dangerous to cross. There is no enetertainment at all in the area but some lovely restaurants especially Michaels, fantastic service and lovely food you can get 3 courses for 11 euro. Also the Italians just before you get to Four Seasons was lovely quite pricey but definitely worth a visit as it has its own mitchelin star chef. the Chinese next door to Michaels was lovely too and nice service. All in all Cyprus is a lovely place. We got married in Paphos 3 years ago and it is very close to our hearts the Cypriot people were lovely and welcoming and It's a shame they couldn't set an example to the people that owned our hotel. I wouldn't go back to Limassol it is definately not suitable for children. "

Blue Crane Apartments Limassol
"We have just returned from a two week holiday at Blue Crane and are extremely dissapointed with the holiday. When we arrived at the Apartment the receptionist advised us that there was no booking for a third child and that there was no bed for her. She was forced to stay in another room, away from her parents on the first night of our arrival. The Apartments were filthy with brown stains on the walls in the bathroom and big brown stains on the carpets in the bedroom. The toilet in one of the Apartments was cracked and dirt was lodged in this crack. The shower did not work properly, water sprayed everywhere each time it was turned on, saturating the floor. It also went from warm to cold and then scalding hot, which nearly caused serious damage . The general standard of cleanliness and decoration was very poor, and the standard of maid service that was available was a health risk. The maids cleaned the toilet and bathroom fittings with the same cloth as they used from other apartments using the bathroom hand basin to rinse the cloth. The towels and linen were only changed twice a week, even though the towels had to be used to mop up the water being sprayed from the shower. On one occasion the baby in our party soiled the cot sheets and when we asked to have clean ones we were refused. The Air conditioning did not work in one of the apartments and as the noise outside from the dual carriageway was unbearably loud, we were unable to keep the patio doors open. Underneath the sofa bed there were nails protruding out (bearing in mind a 5 year old child was sleeping on this. There was a gap between the bed which a child could easily get his or her foot trapped where the nails were. The general attitude of the staff was bordering on plain rudeness. They were very unhelpful and made us feel awkward and uncomfortable for the duration of our stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I agree with other reviews, the people in the hotel were the only four cypriots who didn't smile. Overall Cyprus is a lovely place, however the area we stayed did not have any entertainment for children or adults alike. "

"We stayed at the Blue crane for the first time and actually booked after reading the great reviews and the fact they were reasonably priced and tour operator said they were only a few years old and were luxury four star apartments,however............. Once getting there we soon realised they certainly weren't luxury which was fine to be honest as the Ritz wasn't what I paid for :-) but the rooms were absolutely spotless and spacious. The sofas could be replaced and certainly not comfy enough to sleep in let alone sit on,beds were very comfy though. Air con free and is brilliant and we always had hot water no matter what time of day it was,the shower and bath knob thing was temperamental though sometimes we would put it up for the shower and the bath taps came on and vice versa but hey it was all part of the fun. The maids were in every day and clean sheets and towels were given every second day and beds also made. They certainly earn there money and were brilliant!! The staff weren't too helpful nor cheery though sometimes Anna I felt was more interested in her phone conversations than her guests The pool is a fair size and was cleaned every second morning however the pool area was absolutely filthy and was not cleaned once during our 2 week stay. No entertainment in the hotel even though it stated there was in the directholidays brochure which was a bit of a disapointment but certainly did spoil our stay or time in Cyprus. The noise from Hamlets bar/club was unbelievable though that's right outside the hotel, very loud and this wasn't mentioned prior to booking. You will see the locals park there car up to go into the bar and see them fall into them again after a good drink which puts the heart in the mouth.. You won't hear it much if you are located at the side or back of the hotel though but we were located at the front so could hear everything and then there is the noise from the dual carriage way right outside the hotel,Don't be prepared for a quite night in if located at the front as you will not get it. The noise is loud and constant from the road and the speed that they go at is unreal, you are taking your life in your own hands trying to cross and with young kids it was just a no go,we walked further up the street to get to the beach rather than chance the road outside the hotel. The pool bar service was dire,9 times out of 10 we ended up just going into the main bar at the reception and even that service was slow. Nick was nice though and was the most helpful out of the whole family and Mike the pool bar guy was nice too although like I said most of the time he wasn't at the pool bar. Food at the restaurant wasn't anything to write home about and quite pricey but venturing out was well worth it. Just a few meters away you will find Michaels which serve beautiful meals and reasonably priced too,go the other way and you reach Rebbecas again quality meals and reasonably priced too although don't dare complain about your steak being undercooked otherwise you won't be welcomed in with open arms again!!. It's well worth a venture further into Limassol and you will find the best restaurant called Toscanna, fantastic service and food just brilliant. For a cheap and cheerful full english breakfast nip into Nicolas Chinese restaurant she might be slow but well worth waiting for, absolute charming family and you ALWAYS get a service with a smile and nothing is too much trouble,if you are iffy about your eggs best go for scrambled. Chasers just up the road a bit do a fab home made stake pie and also have some good occasional entertainment as long as football isn't on the t.v ;-)great food great service from Liz and co and the drinks are also great. For the best night out though go into the main strip and nip over by the beach, live Greek concerts and greek dancing and many other attractions to be found will keep your toes tapping and is a fantastic free night/nights out. Do hire a car too as Cyprus is just an amazing place to visit and the people are just as amazing. The Troodos mts are absolutely breathtaking and there is a little fruit stall up there where you will get the most amazing fruit you will ever eat and the man who owns it is so funny and very charming. While in the mountains do take a trip into the Monastery it's a site to see absolutely amazing but be prepared to wear a robe while inside,it's free to visit but it does cost to get into the museum. Pafos I personally thought was too British but the little villages around Pafos are very traditional and the locals just second to none. Aphrodite rock is just spectacular and the little ice cream van on top of the hill is the best I have ever had. Ayia Napa has beautiful beaches and is a very beautiful place and again the people are friendly can get busy at night though but it is a dance/clubbers paradise however not so rough and rowdy as you would think. Fassouri water park is just fantastic and well worth the money, to be honest one day isn't long enough as the water park is so big! You will love it as will the kids :-) Overall Fantastic holiday and location was also fantastic, would I return definitely perhaps not to the blue crane though and it should really be classed as a 2 star rather than a 4 star. I know the hotel is only a few years old but they could already be doing with a lick of paint here and there and a little upgrading!! "

"Went to Cyprus for the first time and stayed in the Blue Crane apartments with 2 children aged 9 and 14. Would not recommend this hotel. The family who run the hotel were rude and very unhelpful. When asking for somewhere to empty our bins on the days that the rooms were not cleaned was like we had asked for a free beer at the bar. When going to the bar in the hotel there was never anybody to serve and when eventually someone did come to serve you it seemed like you were putting them out. The brochure stated that there was entertainment at the hotel which wasn't true. The size of the pool is very small and we didn't see it cleaned once in our 2 week stay. As for the rooms, they looked unkept and were not cleaned very well. Couldn't work out how to use the oven/grill so all we had to cook on was 2 cooking rings and a toaster. Thank god for the decent restaurants around the area. Michaels and Rebeccas are good places to eat. There is a very noisy bar underneath the hotel, which at weekends was like a night out in Blackpool with all the local young ones hanging around the hotel. The beach is situated directly across the road being a dual carriageway, which it is a nightmare to get across and at night all you can hear is roaring bike engines. "

"This was our 14th year at the Blue Crane. As usual we had a lovely time. This hotel is family run and the family are very helpful and polite, mainly the reason for returning year after year. Unlike Spain, after going to Spain for many years mainly during the winter months. I still say the Cypriots are more friendly. In fact having returned from the Blue Crane in July we have re-booked for August/September this year again. We arrived late at night after flying with Cyprus Airways, again, very good flight. On arrival at the Blue Crane we were met by Yanos the night porter, ok, he's not the happiest of people, but pleasant enough. I must say the noise from the dual carriageway, especially the motor bikes at night are very loud, although once the patio doors are closed, the noise does disappear. The dual carriageway can be a nighmare to cross, but having said that, most places abroad don't take any notice of pedestrian crossings. You just have to remember this is not the UK. We visited a few restaurants, Michaels, which has now different staff, food still the same, and the staff are friendly. The Italian restaurant up the road the food is brilliant. The Chinese Restaurant called Pagoda, which is just off one of the side roads at you are going into Limassol town. Drifters on the main drag going into Limassol town. And of course the Kebab House, all these restaurants I would definitely recommend. We hired a car for one week, we visited two lovely beaches, Ladies Mile and Kourian beach. Both these beaches have showers, toilets and nice restaurants. Kourian beach has a lovely restaurant. Cyprus has now changed to the Euro, we did find it a little bit more expensive but not over the top. The problem is on the menus they still show the price in Cypriot Pounds as well at the Euro, which is confusing. For instance the special menu shows £6.50cp as well as 11.11 Euro. "

"Apartments clean but basic, maids earn their money, family who run these are not at all friendly and sometimes rude especially the night porter. Very far from nice shops and bars and with young children its a nightmare as the taxi drivers change their fares on a daily basis. Limassol in general was very run down and the dual carriage way out side the apts was a case of taking your life in your hands as they ignore all traffic lights. We were there for a family wedding, but we definately would not go back to Limassol as its run down, dirty and the shops are just tacky nick-nack shops. Very disappointed with overall holiday. Even the locals weren't friendly unlike the spanish or else were. Would not go back!"

"1st time at Blue Crane and would certainly use again, rooms large and well equipped, excellent room cleaning ..even made the beds...not bad for self catering....no hassle staff...surrounded on all sides by restuarants for every taste, very clean and well stocked bar, spotless pool and poolside facilities,. If I was forced to be critical on any point,it would be probably the noise from the the dual carriageway just out front of the building, but simply closing the sliding doors late in evening solved that. Would without doubt use again on my next visit to Cyprus and have no hesitation recommending these apartments very highly."

"A very well run hotel, it was our 5th time there, and we are going back again next September. So Kim and your gang we will see you there. The food is good, the hotel is quiet, and if you want the beach its just over the road. There isn't any entertainment at the hotel but the night life is just down the road. That's why a lot of people like the Blue crane, nice and quiet, no shouting and balling."
