"Don't waste your money!! Cyprus is a beautiful island and there are much better places than this place. The prices are too high for the value. Cleanliness of rooms and toilets lacking. Staff very rude. Can not bring in your own food, whats worse the food they provide is overpriced and not very tasty. Make sure you check your bill, as they tend to over charge or charge for things you haven't used. Enjoy your holiday by staying elsewhere!!"

"enjoyed our week at the topset, clean and friendly hotel, very helpful staff, you could think it a bit strange to start with, but once you have got used to the layout of the hotel everything is o/k.if you like to listen to the sound of waves gently crashing, and like to walk from your room and swim in the sea this is for you.food of an evening and lunch was fine but brekfast was basic but if you can survive without a fryup you will be o/k.a hire car is an esential i would say as the local buses are regular but stop early evening and could leave you stranded.anyone with walking problems could have problems i think, although there were some people there who dident look too good on there feet i would personaly check first, there are steps to just about everything and i saw nothing anywhere that looked wheelchair friendly.......joe"

"We arrived at Top Set after dark and were a little worried about the surrounding area as it looked very shabby but this hotel turned out to be a real oasis. Next morning bright sunshine ,beautiful gardens no noise and a wonderful seaview. We had a family room for 3 which was on 3 floors and kept beautifully clean it had a terrace with doors straight out onto gardens. The pool area was colouful, the gardens awash with sunflowers and cana amongst many others and was immaculate. Very laid back and peaceful it was a real effort to bother to move other than to the bar and tables set overlooking the man made beach. i did find getting into the sea a little difficult due to a bad knee as entry was like a step ladder unless you wanted to walk over pebble on the main beach. The hotel beach was spotless but the locals seem to have no pride in the public areas and when you see adverts for the best beaches in Cyprus beware you will find litter everywhere. We hired a car for a few days and went to the Karpas peninsula and the turtle beach the latter was kept clean by a group of students who were there to study the turtles. We could not fault the Top Set or the lovely family who run it. Hassan grows his own herbs and veg which are served up on a regular basis and his favourite saying at breakfast was" eat your greens and olives for breakfast to set you up for the day". Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were always friendly and smiling we would certainly visit again and would have rated the holiday 10 out of 10 if it were not for the litter problem. "

"We first found Top-Set in 1995 when all it consisted of was one row of bungalows, since then there has been the addition of more blocks, namely "Emir Top-Set".The now beautiful gardens were only just getting established and over our numerous visits we have watched them mature and grow. We have returned many times since then always asking for the same room as it has a wonderful view,(no I am not going to reveil the number). Over the years we have made friends with the owner Hassan and his family, one of his two daughters is now married with a family of her own. Top-Set is pretty basic but the wonderful location makes up for the lack of facilities, don't be put off by the road leading down to it! If you are looking for a lively holiday then Top-Set is not for you , it is a quiet retreat with lovely views over the med."

Peaceful friendly haven
"Have just returned from the Topset hotel after a fabulous 2 week holiday. The hotel has a good sized swimming pool, a childrens pool, plenty of sunloungers, lovely garden areas, small man made beach. Everywhere is kept spotlessly clean and tidy. There are shops supermarkets and restaurants in easy walking distance, and buses into Kyrenia. Our room had a balcony with pool and sea views on one side, balcony with mountain views on the other side, a large fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, linen changed reguarly, towels changed daily if you wished. We stayed half board and although it was a set menu the food is beautifully cooked with fresh produce from the owners garden, different menu every day, we really enjoyed every meal. If you do"nt like the set menu just let them know and they will cook you something else. All the staff are very friendly and obliging, nothing is too much trouble for them. Will definately stay here again."

"We have stayed at this hotel 3 times before, and will be returning in September 2009. It is run by a lovely Cypriot family who are very friendly. The hotel is kept very clean, as is the swimming pool and the rooms, there is never any rubbish laying around. The food is good and well cooked. It has a very, very relaxing atmosphere and is peaceful. It is wonderful to sit and eat overlooking the sea. The view from the hotel is great. I have never had such a relaxing holiday before. There are plenty of places to go and eat if you are on a b and B basis, which we have also done in the past. The hotel is typically cypriot with local arts and crafts around. You can go to lots of places either by dolmus(bus) or hire a car at a reasonable rate. I would recommend visiting the old castle in Kyrenia, plus the museums. Also Salamis ruins in Famagusta, also a fab. beach here and a cafe. Hiring a car is best, There are many more beaches and places to visit, if you so wish, with time for relaxation at the hotel. I would recommend this hotel for sure. Many people come back time and again, like us. "

We have stayed at the Top Set hotel twic...
"We have stayed at the Top Set hotel twice now! Our first time was last year in Aug 07 when we got engaged, and then again in May this year (08) when we married in the hotel itself. The Hotel arranged all the necessary detail from Cyprus, keeping in constant contact via email the whole time. All we had to do was the legal document here in england and send it out to the manager who did the rest. It is a family run hotel of a reasonable size, and they arrange a party booking for all the friends and family that came out to share our special day (24 in all).......And what a special day....... Even at the end of May the weather is very hot and so we had the ceromony at 5pm....enough light and sun still for photo's and then party time. We were so relaxed as they took care of everything. Food entertainment, decorations, even the wedding cake! We sat by the pool until 3pm, it was great. The staff and the owner and his daughters just can't do enough for you. I remember the first time we went there, we read reviews, and one I remember very well it said " as we drove up I remeber thinking, this looks like down town beirut" but I asure you the hotel is like a little oasis, the owner takes such care over the gardens and little details making it quaint and homely. I think thats what we love about it, it's not 5 star luxury, but a clean, cosy & homely family run hotel. Its close to supermakets, you can walk up to the main road and catch a bus at any time, (they run every 10-15 mins) there are lots of historic sights to see, and there are some fantastic places to eat within walking and short driving distance ( although they have a very good restaurant in the hotel if you don't feel like going out). In all we have had two fantastic holidays at the top set hotel and would recommend it to anyone, and if you fancy getting married over there do it, it was a fairytale wedding in a beautiful setting, we can't thank them enough for all their hard work. "my husband and I have just returned from our 4th visit to Northern Cyprus and the Topset Hotel and as always had a warm and welcoming holiday - warm in temperature and hospitality. the hotel is family run and the owner Hassan and his family are very proud of their establishment, and you can always be sure of a warm welcome. The rooms are comfortable and clean with towels changed every day if you wish. The pool area is very relaxing and set in very pretty gardens, which then lead off onto the outside restaurant and bar area which are set right by the sea and the small man made beach with steps leading into the sea. We stayed on bed & breakfast basis, which is the usual continental type, sometimes we had evening meals at the hotel, which although there is no choice the food is good and plentiful. Topset is also situated ideally for exploring this area of Cyprus, being only a few minutes drive from Girne (Kyrenia) and about 1 hr from Famagusta, with lots of places of interest between, and a large number of very good restaurants within walking distance. Overall this is the area and hotel to visit if you want to rediscover the med as it used to be, if you just want to relax and unwind or if you are more adventurous and want to explore"

"We came to stay at Topset with a first walking child in tow, so we were slightly worried before our arrival that the grounds were going to be clean, safe and generally toddler friendly. We need not of worried as it was a perfect place to take young children. The gardens were beautiful with lots of liitle secret pathways to explore, the pool was kept very clean as were the bathing areas surrounding. The staff were helpful and made us feel very welcome. Topset has a quiet setting and is perfect for a relaxing, chilled out holiday. "

"Very pleasant clean accomodation, well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful. The childrens' pool was very welcome..The food was good and plentiful. the rooms were cleaned regularly, and the Hotel was only a short taxi ride from Kyrenia. THere is a a small beach that belongs to the Hotel. This Hotel was family friendly and we are returning this year !!"

"The Top Set needs dragging into the 21st Century. It gives the impression of becoming delapadated. The accommodation itself was very good with both sea and pool views. The standard of cleaning left a bit to be desired with one mop does all. Quite often the room needed to be aired to get rid of the stale mop smell. The reception staff were reasonably good but we had to follow up any requests as they often forgot. For example they booked a car us but got the days wrong, a message left by our holiday rep didn't get to us. The food to say the least was boring. Breakfast was of a very poor standard. The evening meal was of one choice, take it or leave it. The plus side was that there are a number of excellent restaurants within easy walking distance and some of the more distant ones such as in Bellapaise will collect and return you. You are better of changing your money away from the hotel. The rate was about 2.3 lire to the pound. If you go to the HSBC Bank in Kyrenia you can draw sterling from the ATM, if you then take your cash to the exchange about 100 metres away you get a better rate. We got between 2.5 and 2.6. The Top Set advertises a man made beach. I would compare it with the levelled sand tip on a building site with a smattering of broken wooden sun beds thrown in. A number of beds around the pool were also damaged. The pool area itself was very good. In conclusion the Top Set is not a hotel I would recommend to friends or colleagues and Iwould not consider a return visit. I do not believe it merits its status and is not up to more than two star standard."

Very friendly hotel.
"We booked our holiday through Direct Traveller, flying into Larnaca and transported by mini bus. It only took 75 minutes. We arrived at the Top Set Hotel and found the reception staff very friendly. Our rooms were overlooking the pool and sea. We had a lounge area downstairs, with plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space, with a large fridge and balcony and upstairs we had the bedroom and more wardrobe space and bathroom. I agree with a previous person who had stayed there that the rooms have a rustic feel to them. We had half board for the first week and bed and breakfast for the second. Breakfast is served indoors in a very pleasant dining room. Fresh orange juice, tea and coffee. One day boiled eggs and another scrambled eggs. One cereal, cheeses and olives. Toast is served to your table every day. Then there is melon, slices of orange, figs and dates, there is also yoghurt. There was a good 4 course evening meal but the one critisism I have is that there was no choice of main meal. Evening meals were served outside on the balcony overlooking the sea. Everything around the Top Set seemed relaxing. Sometimes we were the only ones in the pool, not crowded with loads of children. The beach is man made, and the sea has rocks/stones but you are able to swim easily. All the staff were very helpful. We hired a car for three days, which is a must if you really want to see the real country. We went to Famagusta old town, Salamis ruins and sandy beach, then crossed over the mountain to the other side and came back along the coast. We stopped at Turtle Beach to get a drink only to find that the Turtle volunteers were putting a cord up around one of the nests on the beach. They were getting the hatched turtles out of a nest, which we were all able to watch. This was the third night and the ones they had got out the previous night had been tagged and they later released them into the water and we watched them swim away. This was fantastic. The next day we went to Bellapais and the monastery and then to St Hillarion Castle. The views were fantastic and the castle ruins were amazing. Despite the temperatures being in the 40's we still climbed right to the top. The Top Set Hotel is situated down a side road. It only took a few minutes walk to the main road where we used to catch the dolmus' to Kyrenia. These were very frequent and only cost 1.50 turkish lire around 65p. They operated throughout the day and evening. There are several good restaurants nearby, anything from 10 to 20 minutes walk from the hotel. Also eating around the harbour and at Bellapais the views are lovely. In Kyrenia we had lovely iced coffees in To Limani cafe around the harbour. Once tasted we were hooked. The boat trips from the harbour are very good. Most of them only take up to 20 people so you can lay out on them and enjoy your day. We chose the Top Set because it was near to Kyrenia, but with having the sea and breezes, being that it was August. Also we prefer a smaller hotel because they are usually more friendly. When touring around we came across a few other hotels we had considered and knew we had made the correct choice of location. The hotel was clean and staff very friendly. Direct Traveller were also a very good tour operator, cheaper than booking through Travel Agents."
