Beautiful location but thats all that was enjoyable
"The location of the hotel is beauitful, the buildings and garden also very appealing to the eye.Villas in need of an update quite shabby looking but was only staying for 2 nights so wasn't too bothered. Not at any time, even when booking the reservation were we informed of a dance competition taken place that weekend, and was then asked to leave the only bar area on the resort as we were not welcome, we were paying guest but was treated like outcasts by the hotel manager, the event organiser, and the team of people taken part in the event. My advice is to check what is going on if booking to stay here I personally will not be returning and wouldn't recommend this hotel not after the way we were made to feel."

an honest review
"best hotel staff ever. apartment rooms are a little bleak but functional and roomy and in need of refurbishment.
The hotel is at the foot of a mountain and there is no footpath exiting the hotel to the town so no walking from here. Use either the free bus from the hotel (only 1 departure daily) or hire a car or use a taxi, roughly 9 turkish lira to town.
good places to eat are Ezic premier and Dukkan cafe which are both really reasonable but offer a good mixed menu. restaurants around the harbour are really expensive.
If you are after turkish delight you will find the best on the Island in Famagusta in a shop called Petek, well worth the journey.
Local beaches are few and charge admittance. If you want to hire a car stay away from riverside cars as their cars are both dangerous and battered. We had to change ours twice as the 1st lost power climbing a hill and the second had a buckled rear wheel from a previous impact. Make sure you check the tyres as you will be liable for any damage and most car companies tend to use cheap tyres."

Excellent hotel with very friendly staff
"The Onar Village is situated on a hillside overlooking Kyrenia. It is a beautiful location but is remote if you like a walk in an evening. Although it is only 5 minutes by taxi to Kyrenia town I would not recommend trying to walk as there is a dual carriageway to negotiate and a steep hill on the way back. It is an excellent base for visiting all the sites of Northern Cyprus"

What a fantastic place to stay
"The Onar Village was recomended to us by a friend and we were not disapointed. The complex itself is on the mountain side looking down on Kyrenia, (about 2-3 minute drive to the main tourist area). This is not the cheapest accomadation avalible in Kyrenia, but the Onar has a much higher standard than most I have stayed in. The complex is on a hillside, so may not be suited to people who have troble walking up steep patths. Can't wait to go again next year."

Rooms with a view
"A beautifully situated hotel with good facilities and ambience. Be sure to book a room overlooking Kyrenie and the sea. Then sit on your balcony and drink in the view along with your Brandy Sour. Not recommended for young children as the site is multi level with lots of steps. Less able people might well find this a problem, although the hotel is very popular with older guests, many of whom return regularly. Very friendly and efficient staff. One bus a day to and from Kyrenia is inadequate, although taxis are cheap and readily available. Walking to and from not an attractive prospect unless match fit!!!!!!!!!!!"

Room with a View
"I booked myself, my partner and my mother and father into the Onar Village for 2 nights in September after it was highly recommended by some friends of ours in the south of Cyprus. Directions to this hotel are not the best, but after driving around for nearly an hour we finally found it, up a steep hill with breathtaking city and harbor views of Kyrenia. Hotel front desk employees were very kind and helpfull. Rooms are basic but have very nice glass doors and shutter doors that can be opened to your private balcony. The pool was large and deep, swim up pool bar where you could get an assortment of drinks, food and pool lounge towels. A shuttle bus leaves at apprx 10:30am to Kyrenia Harbor (downtown) and returns at 3:30pm. This is a very nice and FREE service the hotel provides. Taxis to the city centre are cheap (about 3 pound cyp) and the drinks are cheap in the city. The only thing i would complain about at this hotel was the state of the beds, very firm and uncomfortable.. my back is still aching!!
Beds aside, I would return to this place in a heartbeat. Great value for money hotel with fantastic staff."

A great stay in the Onar
"We've just returned from the Onar holiday Village hotel just on the outskirts of Kyrenia. It was very good. An excellent location overlooking Kyrenia, the Onar was a top choice. It was very peaceful, with a great pool, good food, and reasonable prices (for a hotel - £1.80 for a large bottle of Turkish Lager ). Prices in Kyrenia were obviously cheaper and reachable by a £3 taxi ride. We stayed half board and had a choice of 2 starters, 2 main courses and sweets. The hotel restaurant was quiet (so was Northern Cyprus generally?), however, locals and B+B guests came into dine selecting from a larger menu. The food was local and very tasty, although we did have basically the same vegetable selection nightly. Towels and sheets were changed on a daily basis and pool side towels were also available on request. The staff were first rate and very friendly - all in all, an a great holiday in a great hotel."

Onar Village is in a wonderful location...
"Onar Village is in a wonderful location on the hillside overlooking Kyrenia. It is only a short and cheap taxi ride into Kyrenia and during the heat of August Onar was noticeably cooler than the town.
The hotel buildings are lovely, clean and welcoming and nicely decorated. The pool area, and pool bar were never too crowded and again kept beautifully clean. There is a beautiful indoor pool and small gym. The restaurant on the terrace overlooks Kyrenia and although we were only staying on a bed and breakfast basis we often chose to eat at the hotel in the evening as the food was very good.
The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful, and contributed to the very calm and restful atmosphere of the hotel. There were a number of guests there who had returned time and time again and we would certainly do the same. The only downside was that the hotel plumbing sometimes found it a struggle to keep our bungalow, downhill from the main building, supplied with hot water. I hope the owners will turn their attention to this.
This was our first visit to Northern Cyprus and we found it ideal being located out of town at the Onar 'oasis' with the beautiful harbour and choice of restaurants of Kyrenia so close by."

"We booked a 17 day trip to this hotel, and on arrival found the village to be lovely. We started off in a hotel room on half board, but after our first dinner discovered that we had made a big mistake, and switched to a self catering villa. Do not go half board, even with a 2.35 exchange rate it is cheaper to eat out, even in the most expensive places. The hotel it's self was lovely and the reception staff great, but unfortunately the rest of the staff let the place down considerable. Accommodation basic, with no frills. Pool area lovely if it wasn't for the bar man playing his drooning turkish music all day which got progressive louder, so if you want to relax, find a beach! Oh and the sun beds were softer than the beds in the rooms!
All in all we did have a lovely holiday, the weather was fantastic. We are a middle aged pair who like to travel and see the world but prefer to make our own entertainment, this quite hotel would have been ideal."

Girne area one big building site
"This is more about the area around Girne than the hotel. Holiday companies are still advertising North Cyprus as an unspoiled paradise which is a downright lie at the moment. Investment funds have arrived from somewhere and there is building going on all along the coast for miles on either side of Girne, the main tourist destination. When it is finished it may look bright and modern but at the moment it is definitely not any sort of paradise.
Having said that the Onar Village hotel is one of the best in its price range and I see no reason why any UK visitors should be disappointed if they choose it. It has its own website which is attractive and truthful so I won't say more about the hotel. I don't add any photos because mine are all of the 'nice' bits."
