Great location, fab little place!
"A great little place. We had the smallest room in the hotel for the one night and were very impressed indeed - definitely worth the small price we paid - smaller than I thought when it appeared on my card statement! I could not believe how close it was to everything - the map made it look quite far away but it's quite a large scale obviously! Just off the promenade, very near the old town, it really is a fab spot. The restaurant of the same name - Konoba Varos - just round the corner (next door to the juice bar) is excellent - really good lamb rib chops! :-)"

Excellent location but everything else average
"We have just come back from staying at this apartment for 2 nights. The location was excellent, right in the heart of the city. The room we had was quite small but very well kept and clean. Be warned, the property has no private parking and you will need to pay a parking meter at certain times of the day (except Sunday, which is free). If you drive, we found that parking is not easy and the place is not obvious to find in the car. We chose this place from reading a previous review on tripadvisor which said how helpful the owner was. However, this was not the case in our opinion. We did not even see her until the day of check out. Instead, she had her son helping out who was unable to provide us with any helpful information. We saw a couple waiting outside the property around 9am to either check in or check out as the door was locked only to say they would be back in 30minutes. We found this quite unprofessional as we also wanted to speak to her for advice around the town.. Overall the service was disappointing but was pretty good value for its location and comfort of accommodation. If you just need a place to stay for a night or so this would be fine. Breakfast is not included but there are plenty of places to eat and a little supermarket within a 2minute walk. There is also a great restaurant called Sperun which serves good honest fresh seafood."

Nice accommodation, not far from centre on Split
"We booked a room here through bookings.com. We initially intended to stay here for 6 nights, but we cut this down to 3 because we got bored in Split, its only a small port town with not an awful lot to see or do. The room was nice and brand new, and had its own bathroom. Lovely and clean. Cleaning everyday. Had TV with satalite and english channels. There were always lots of children playing outside making a lot of noise in the mornings. 50% of the time our showers were cold, but the owner couldn't help us with this problem unfortunately. She therefore didn't mind us leaving 3 days earlier than planned. Website: [--] They also have apartments to rent here, but we only had a double room. They offer a discounted breakfast at a nice cafe up the road."

"Booked a stay at Villa Varos based on positive Tripadvisor comments. Positives - 1. Excellent location, very central 2. Newly decorated, nice bathrooms 3. Air con in bedrooms Not so great - 1. It was implied that breakfast was included in the rate although it was to be taken in a nearby restauarant , which you then had to pay for. 2. Our room was very small with a window which looked onto a building area. 3. Our room was right next to reception so we heard every phone call, etc."

Great stay in Split
"I checked with Travel Advisor and Villa Varos had good reviews so we booked it. It was great. 15-20 minute walk to airport bus, bus & train stations, ferry terminal yet close to the center of the old city. The location is wonderful. Small and friendly, we were greeted on arrival by Joanne, the owner. She offered us cold juice while we registered. She is from New York with interesting stories. Our room was small by quite comfortable with air conditioning. The bathroom had a shower. Overall the room was clean. We were there during the Split Festival. In the evening there was an outdoor concert near by but we could not hear anything from our room. Very quiet. Breakfast is not served in the hotel but it can be had quite close by. We had an early morning ferry to catch so we got coffee near the terminal. Our next stay at Villa Varos we will book directly with the hotel over the Internet.."

Great place to stay American-Croatian owner
"The second place we stayed in Split was Villa Varos. This was a great find; Joanne Donlic the owner is an American of Croatian descent who after marrying a Croatian opened this inn. It is rated 3 stars, and had everything you could want. It had just opened and everything was brand new and spotless, after getting to know Joanne I bet anything it stays that way. We got a room with air conditioning, a large double bed with a trundle bed under it, private bathroom with our own water heater, satellite television, and internet access. Best of all Joanne recommended some great places to eat, and when you needed directions she would sometimes walk you to your destination just so you wouldnât get lost. Her place is in a quiet old part of the old town, about a 3 minute walk from the walled town. Everything one could want and a reasonable price. I hear they are going to offer breakfast soon, and be sure to have her introduce you to her cousinâs sandwich shop, Paulina, for an exceptional cevapi sandwich."
