good location and good hotel
"the hotel neptune is perfectly located in the centre Porec. the hotel was clean and serviced well. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is worth paying the extra for the sea view as you are right on the sea front and the view is breath taking.
Porec is nice and has alot of Italian influence in look and feel. Unfortunately, the prices are also along the italian theme and are very expensive. Maybe the south of croatia is cheaper, but Porec is not. The restaurants are typical tourist menus in the old town and full of the usual pizza and pasta dishes. Its hard to find many true traditional restauarants in this area. Their are one or two nice restaurants on the front - DG, San Nicola and Ulicix (spelling probably wrong) these are not cheap, but worth it.
Ask at reception for a venue out of town. These are more traditional, cheaper and an overall better experience. The only downside is getting the taxi which brings the cost back up to expensive. 5km in a taxi is £7-£8 each way. Even a black cab in London doesn't cost that!
Get the boat over to the island and Hotel Fortuna for sun bathing. The boat is free and the island is the perfect place to catch the sun - it has a nice breeze! The sun beds are also cheap at £2 per day. The only down side to the beach is that its rocky and not sand, but you get used to falling over the rocks."

"We have just returned from the Hotel Neptune in Porec where we had a excellent and wonderfull holiday. The Neptune is situated right on the quay side in the centre of the town, so is perfectly located for all amenities.
We stayed for two weeks on a half board basis, there was an excellent choice of food at both breakfast and dinner, both of which were buffet service, the dining room staff were on hand to assist our needs and quick to replenish any empty dishes.
The hotel rooms were compact with twin beds, but ample in size for our stay, there was always plenty of hot water all day for showers. We had a room at the back of the hotel, the only downside was the early morning noise from the bells ringing from the Bassilica each morning at seven am, plus the early morning refuge collection which disturbed us.
There are plenty of places to visit on your stay, we choice to go on the Istria tour (an excellent way to see the area and local villages), Plitvice Lakes (absolutely beautiful), which is a must even thought the journey is very long, Lake Bled in Slovinia and the Fish Picnic. The towns of Pula, Rovinj and Vsar are all worth a visit, we used the local bus service for these visits.
The hotel offers a free ferry service over to the island of St Nikola, which boast a blue flag award, although there are no sandy beaches, it was nice to have the time to relax by the shore and swim in the clear blue sea.
All in all we had an excellent holiday and would thoroughly recommend it."

A real find
"We booked the Hotel Neptun as part of a cheap late package tour and set our expectations accordingly. What a surprise all aspects above expectation. Rooms big enough, well fitted and a shower that worked with hot water. Rooms cleaned efficiently and with space to move round. Our room was at the back with view over church - no sea view but facing north cooler at night. Rooms don't have a/c - the only drawback. Food was excellent with a willing girl frying eggs to your satisfaction every morning. Evening buffet was big with plenty of choice. All the staff were exceedingly helpful and friendly. Ljiljiana in the restaurant was a delight as was Vilma the hardest working bar maid in Croatia I suspect. All in all it was a cracking find. No pool but it was on the sea front behind a tree-lined boulevard. All the evening cafe and bars are right there, no out of town complex isolation. To swim or sunbathe get the free ferry to the island (5 minutes) and either use their pool or better still walk round the other side of the island and swim off the rocks in the sea in peace and quiet.
More for couples than families as there is no children's entertainment - go to one of the complexes for that.
Overall loved every minute of it and will definitely go back."

So sweet hotel
"We are a 24-year-old couple who stayed in hotel Neptun for 4 days in June 2007. The hotel was much more nicer than on photos we saw on the internet. It was clean and quiet although during the night we were disturbed by seagulls but it was obviously not the hotel's fault. Our room was just the right size. We read some other reviews here before our trip and some people complained that their room was too small but we can say it was satisfying. The food was excellent, big choice for both breakfast and dinner. Big choice of salads, fruit and deserts. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a room overlooking the old town, we didn't mind not having a sea view (for a sea side you need to pay extra) There was a nice bar in the hotel, too. There was music every night but one, nice and relaxing. We were happy because the hotel was situated in the center of Porec and we could walk all around the old town. We had a free-parking place and free rides to St.Nikola island which was situated in front of the hotel. As we were celebrating our anniversary we didn't want to go on wild parties but we just wanted to relax and enjoy the sights, walks and food so hotel Neptun was just right place to stay."

"We stayed at the Hotel Neptun during our 7 night visit to Croatia. We felt the staff was very friendly and we loved our room. If booking at this hotel, we suggest requesting a sea view with a balcony. Located right on the water, the view was beautiful and we got to watch the sunset every night. Expedia did not give us the option, so we had to call the hotel directly a few months before we arrived. The breakfast and dinner buffet was great, highly recommend staying here."

cheap and cheerful
"Booked the Hotel Neptun as a late deal and have to say it was really good value for money. That said I only paid around £130 for a week stay at half board due to it being out of season and booked just days before.
The hotel itself was clean and tidy and was perfectly suitable for our stay. The room was small and did sport some rather fetching orange furry blankets but it was well maintained and the bathroom was good. Our veiw wasnt inspiring but we didnt spend a great dael of time there.
The food was excellent and the staff helpful. The locals were really friendly and welcomed us into their restaurants and bars. The bars seemed to stay open for as long as youre drinking!
The weather was good and we made good use of the free boat trips to the island opposite.
Not sure if i would have been as pleased if I had paid more though?"

lovely town good choice of hotel
"We stayed at the Hotel Neptun at the end of July having read the reviews here on Trip Advisor. It was friendly, clean and excellent value for money. The buffet meals at breakfast and supper provide excellent food and an extensive choice. Opposite the hotel, the island of Fortuna was a great place to swim and sunbathe.
We flew into Trieste airport and stayed one night in Trieste (very civilised and great shopping!), then caught the bus from Trieste bus station to Porec (about £8 each) which took 2 hours. The hotel was a short walk from the bus station. After a few days in Porec we caught the ferry (which was 20 yards from the hotel!) to Venice and spent a few days in Venice and flew back to the UK from Treviso."

1ST TIME TO Porec and we loved it, would...
"1ST TIME TO Porec and we loved it, would definitely go again. Hotel is really good, but no air con. Plenty to see and do if you wish. If you want Benidorm type of holiday forget it. The resort has a good feel with a good mix of people. Not really sutible for the young who want loud music and discos. The Dutch, Italian, Germans were plentiful as well as the Croation people, everyone was friendly with each other.
The town of Porec is a gem, and plenty of boat trips to local towns. Try Rovinj very nice to visit."

Stayed at the Neptun Hotel for one week...
"Stayed at the Neptun Hotel for one week in May 2007. A fabulous hotel, superb food, excellent customer service in a fantastic location, right in the centre of Porec.
Porec is beautiful, very relaxed with a good selection of bars, restaurants and shops and no English breakfasts, fish and chips thank god. Who wants to go abroad and eat what we eat here - sadly the majority of British tourists!
Croatia is a beautiful country, the people were very friendly and hopefully it will stay this way and not end up like some of the Spanish resorts. Take the day trip to Venice - ferry leaves right opposite hotel and it is a fantastic day out.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the Neptun Hotel or Porec to any traveller who wants to experience another culture, not an extension of our own.
