The ONLY place to stay when in Dubrovnik!

"We stayed at Villa Klaic for 5 days in June last year and had the best time of our entire trip! Milos and his family were lovely and added an authentic feel to our stay. I booked the hotel through Hostel World, which made booking so easy and secure. The Villa offers airport pick up and drop off for a small fee, which we accepted and we were greeted at the airport by Milos' wife. It was lucky we arranged for this as our bags got lost and she was able to communicate with airport staff and help us find them. The 20 minute drive to the airport is amazing: along the coast on a high cliff, of which I was sure we were going to drive right off (they drive really fast in this part of the world!). When we got to the hostel we were initially worried as it was on a main road, but we were given a room next to the pool, so did not hear one sound from the road for our entire stay. Milos greeted us and offered us a beer and snacks. He sat down and went through some local maps, places to visit, restaurants to eat at and places to avoid (there are quite a few tourist traps). He also gave us his business card with his number on it and insisted we call him if ever we were lost, or in danger or anything like that. I've never experienced such hospitality! The room we were give was next to the hostels pool. The room was enormous for the price (AU$80 per night) and the bathroom was lovely and clean. This room was for three people, so there was a double and single bed in there, all of which were so comfortable. Throughout our whole time there we couldn't believe what a bargain the place was! We used the pool every day. The water isn't heated, but after walking up and down 400 steps to get to the main town centre you're almost happy it isn't :) Because there are only a few rooms at this hostel it means there is no overcrowding, and the most people we saw at the pool was 3 or 4. The hostel offers an outdoor kitchen area (a BBQ) with cupboards, fridge, chopping area, cup, plates and some cutlery, but this really isn't necessary. The fridge is great though, and you can store drinks and fruit etc in there. Be sure to label it, as it can go walkabout at times! The food is so cheap around town that there really is no need to cook your own meals anyway! The walk to the town is about 10-15 minutes, but I can't stress enough what a wonderful walk it is! You really get to feel the culture of the locals when you walk from the hostel to the town, and you're provided with so many amazing photo opportunities along the way. The only people this wouldn't work for is the elderly, people with hip or knee problems and people who perhaps aren't as fit as they could be. We had been walking around Europe for a month before we got to Dubrovnik and it was a tough walk even for us. The only negative was that in comparison to Milos, his wife was a little stand-offish. We occasionally felt like we were intruding (as the owners also live at the hostel). This made us feel fairly uncomfortable at times, but we simply stayed in our room or went for a walk if we felt too uncomfortable. As she didn't speak too much English, we came to the conclusion that it was probably just a little culture clash. Be wary of the resident cat at Villa Klaic who's fairly grumpy. You'll also find that throughout Dubrovnik there are hundreds of stray cats that seem to be treated with a fair bit of respect by locals. These cats are part of the culture here, so be sure not to mistreat them. I fell in love with a little kitten that would sit at a local bakery and wait for people to feed him :) Tip: stop at this bakery to buy bread, pastry snacks and drinks before you hit the walled city - otherwise you may find yourself spend two or three times as much. I have recommended Villa Klaic to three of my friends who are planning to travel there, and especially as the prices for accommodation are so high everywhere else in town this is the perfect choice for young travellers. Also, if the hostel is booked out or you want to extend your stay but they can't accommodate (this happened to us), Milos will make a few phone calls and find you a room to rent for a night or so. We did this and stayed in the house next door to Villa Klaic and it was fantastic. These owners were also amazing and friendly and the views from the balcony were to-die for. I would definitely stay here again. In fact, I'm looking forward to it!!"

"Myself and my boyfriend stayed at villa klaic for one week last september. we got picked up by milos wife at the airport which was really handy. our room was actually in the familys living quarters which upstairs and the room was really small with a slanted ceiling which i banged my head off lots of times. the bathroom was so tiny that the toilet had been installed at an angle to make it fit! however the shower was a good size and always had hot water. room was very clean as was bathroom. the pool at that time of year was very quiet so we didnt spend very much time at it, the only time we met other people was at the bbq which was an excellent way of finding out who was staying there. As far as i know all the guest rooms are downstairs, we were the only guests up with the family, so we were away from everyone else. judging by the photos up here by a previous reviewer, we got a slightly bad deal with our room size and we didnt complain (mainly because the price was so good we thought that was the best villa klaic had to offer!) maybe if we had said something they would have given us a better room? all in all it was a good clean place to stay with access to dubrovnik and for 20euro u can get picked up and dropped to airport. would i stay there again? only if i specified which room not to get, ie the tiny one in the family living quarters!!"

"Just a short review of the Villa Klaic , 7 of us stayed at the villa with host Milo , and what a time we had , 1 of us had his birthday 50th there ,but with Milo`s help and a BBq we all enjoyed the night , that included any other crew that was there at the time . Milo and his wife were the best hosts you could hope for , Accom was in the top few that we stayed at clean & comfortably ( away 8 weeks from oz in germany, austria ,switzerland, italy, czech rep & croatia land - yacht charter ), Position, well as others have said lots of steps to the old town but we all survived this and all felt better for it , Will Return for more good times , Hats off to Milo and Co"

"We stayed at Villa Klaic for 16 nights as a base for us to explore Dubrovnik and the surrounding area. Milo is a fantastic host and works hard with his family to ensure you have a pleasant stay. He is always willing to help or offer advice (he was born and bred in the town). We are both teachers and were looking for somewhere to relax for our holiday. Villa Klaic delivered this for us. Lazing by the pool or reading on the terrace with a view of the sea is a welcome alternative to trips to the old town, beaches or organised visits to the local area. We would recommend this hotel in an instant! Some guests have a slight issue with all the stairs that you have to climb up and down from the old town to the guesthouse (it is very tiring especially in the heat of the day). However, there is a bus (the number 3) that drops you off right above the property, so this should not put people off at all. If you want excellent value and service make sure you stay here!!!"

"We stayed with Milo, at Villa Klaic for our first two nights in Dubrovnik, as we could only get 4 nights of accommodation in the Old Town. On arrival in Dubrovnik, we drove to Milo's place. If you drive, get directions, so that you stop on the main road at the top of the property instead of going through all the little winding streets, as we did! Milo is a great host. He has a beautiful house with a nice terrace area. He greeted us with cold drinks, which were much needed in July! There is a small pool, which is immaculately clean, with lovely views of the sea. The atmosphere is very laid back and Milo encourages his guests to relax and take it easy! The loaction of the house is not far from the old town in distance but there are literally hundreds of steps - ok going down but a real challenge coming up in the July heat (which was almost 40 degrees!). We like to keep fit but even this was too much of a challege for us. It was ok to walk back up at night (although still very tiring) but a no no in the day. However, you can get the bus up if you want to. The room was spacious and lovely and clean. There was no A/C which was a bit of a struggle in the heat we experienced. There was a fan but A/C would have obviously been better. Milo put on a lovely BBQ one night for all of his guests. This was a real treat. Great food and it was a really nice touch. Milo told me that as from next year, he will be offering a B & B service, as he is extending a terrace for breakfast, so that will be nice. There are no shops that are close by, so it will be good for him to have this option for guests. As others have stated, this is excellent value accommodation. We just relaxed around the pool for the few days we were there as we knew we were going to be in the Old Town for the rest of our stay. With this in mind, we were happy, however, in the heat of July, the location would have been a slight inconvenience, if we had stayed here for our entire time in Dubrovnik whereas in the Old Town, we had everything on our doorstep, and it took very little effort to sight see because everything was so close. You can see my review for the other place we stayed in Dubrovnik. -We had a different experience at both places and they were both excellent. I would definitely recommend Milo's place. We had the best of both worlds in Dubrovnik by staying at two different places, which actually worked out to be really great."

"We stayed at Villa Klaic in mid-May this year and I can honestly say Villa Klaic is the best value accommodation I have ever stayed in. We unfortunately only had 1 day in Dubrovnik and, expecting hostel standard rooms and bathrooms (especially for such a low price), we were staggered on our arrival at the property to discover a beautiful house that has been maintained to a very high standard, with modern rooms and an amazing view over Dubrovnik. It is only a 10-15 minute walk down to the town centre and the journey back is really not that taxing, in fact very enjoyable through the winding streets. Our hosts were, as others have already noted, very helpful and give you as much time as you need – it was certainly a warm welcome and representative of all the Croatian people we came across during our time in Croatia. I cannot recommend this place highly enough – avoid the fake and expensive resorts, I'm sure you won't regret staying here - it was certainly the cheapest place we stayed at during our european trip and one of the best."

"If you're visiting Dubrovnik this is THE place to stay. Bargain rates, private pool with bar and terrace and well proportioned rooms with modern decor. Conveniently situated near to the main road and outside the tourist hub of the Old Town. If you're up for the challenge of the steps in and out of the old town then you won't go worong by booking here. Milo is a fantastic host."

"Milo went out of his way to make us feel welcome in his home over the Christmas holidays. He and his family were very, very welcoming and they were really helpful in answering questions and offering advice as well as just being fun to talk to. I highly recommend these apartments - they are clean, private, and quiet, and the old city of Dubrovnik is only about ten minutes by foot. The bus to the beaches is also close, about five minutes away. The trip back up the stairs isn't the most fun in the world, but you're closer to the overlook if you choose to hike up the hill to get a better view of the area. Overall, GREAT place, great host, great location."

"This Villa was amazing as was the host!!! It had a beautiful pool, bar area, fantastic view and was away from the hustle and bustle. Only a short walk into the old town but beware all steps up hill on the way back. After the first couple of times you get used to it and actually enjoyed walking through the gorgeous alleys. Milo the host bends over backwards to make your stay as pleasant as possible and the place is kept spotless."
