Loved the tranquility
"We booked a last minute holiday to Dubrovnik. Loved the place as we wanted somewhere to relax and unwind. Dubrovnik is a lovely place. The sea is so beautiful. Not much of night life though. The hotel is lovely as we find the beds and pillows so comfortable that as we had the best sleep ever while on holidays. We found the staff of the hotel to be friendly and we found the lady in the gift shop in the hotel very helpful. The hotel is conveniently situated near the bus stop so no need to hire a car if you are exploring Dubrovnik city. We came at the end of the tourist season so not much happening around as we don't like crowds. I gathered from the staff that it is heaving during the summer! Will definitely recommend it if you want a quiet holiday! G C and B A Owens (Berkshire, UK)"

Good, clean, simple hotel for a package holiday
"Havin read the Trip Advisor reviews, we were not expecting much. However, after a 40min coach trip from the airport, the reception area was bright, open and friendly. The hotel is clean, well run and safe. The rooms are decent and adequate, clean bathroom, plenty of towels, sat TV and beds are fine. Mini bar in in each room is ideal for cooling your water for the pool next day. Security safe is at reception and free of charge. We found the staff extremely friendly except for the front desk who were a little dull. Breakfast was buffet and offered plenty of choice. We ate in the hotel restaurant twice during our stay and the buffet theme is continued with good variety if nothing fancy. Hotel is a 10 minute bus ride from the old City where you will have plenty of choice for restuantant and sighseeing. The hotel pool is quite but while longers are free, towels are not provided, so be sure to bring your own. Overall good hotel if you want to just get away to the sun. However it is not a hotel for spoling yourself. Don't expect spa treatments, trousers presses or tea / coffee facilities in your room. We booked on lastminute.com and travelled with Topflight who were excellent."

Clean and comfortable
"We just got back and had an amazing time in Dubrovnik. Hotel was average, good buffet breakfast, clean room and amazing view but nothing special for the rate they are charging. No complaint at all. It is 3 min walk to bus stop that takes you directly to the old town and you can purchase ticket downstairs from hotel. It is 5 min walk to the beach, The umberella and chairs are not free to use but you need them as the beach is rocky. Also there is no towels for the beach and pool use so make sure you bring towels with you to this trip. Your own shampoo and conditioner might also be a good idea to bring as the hotel's is not a good quality at all."

Pleasant hotel, not bad
"Had serious reservations about this place having read the reviews....but was pleasantly surprised. We spent our first evening in a basement twinroom, instead of the double sea-view room we had booked. However a sea-view room was arranged for our second night-at 60kuna extra per person it really is worth it!! Room was a good size, clean but basic. Mini-bar stocked daily, clean towels daily, cleaning staff however rouse you from sleep by 9:30 or so!! Breakfast is fine-not exactly a culinary delight but is adequate....never had dinner so can't comment on that....took a taxi into the old town every evening for 10 euro-delightful restaurants to be found....everywhere. Pool area is very quiet, poolside bar was open but the actual pool bar itself was not. Cobocabana beach is a ten minute walk and is definitely a better option. Bar and reception staff were very friendly and helpful however the staff at breakfast appeared to be serving sentences-being totally unhelpful, unfriendly and unapproachable. Overall all had a very enjoyable break-this hotel has all the basics and if you're booking a last minute break is definitely worth considering!!"

clean and comfortable
"My room was clean and comfortable with nothing to complain about. The night I stayed, the hotel was dead quiet. Breakfast was fine. The staff were quite helpful when I had any questions or needs. A bus runs directly past the hotel into the old town very frequently, so access to it is quite convenient."

We loved Croatia
"We stayed in Hotel Tirea in May of 2007. We thought Dubrovnik and other parts of Croatia are stunningly beautiful. Hotel Tirena is a touch old fashioned, but they have done a good job restoring it after the War in the 90's. The staff are very pleasant and friendly, we found the food to be ok, not gourmet by any standards, but it wasnt awful, the buffet offers lots of choice both for breakfast and Dinner, we enjoyed it. The bedrooms, were large and clean, the bathrooms quite large with lovely powerful showers. The Pool is clean, but a bit dull, the furnishings are bit dated. There isnt much to do at night in the Babin Kuk area, so most evenings we took the local bus down to the old town, which is really beautiful. We found Croatia to be clean , safe, and very reasonably priced, we had a wonderful holiday and would most definitely return."

"Hotel Tirena on Babin Kuk peninsula was really great, although some of the staff seemed to be quite bored with their lives. Rooms were clean and the breakfast was fine. Don't try the restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel though. Not far away from the beaches (pebble or rock) and the joint Babin Kuk hotels pool nearby is great and has a bar. The bus takes you downtown in no time, you can even walk if you like to. Stayed there with my choir of 30 persons and no one had anything to complain about. Contact ms. Marilka Tovarac for groups, she'll arrange everything!"

Not the Tirena!
"My wife and I stayed at the Tirena in June 2006. It's situated on the Babin Kuk peninsula just outside Dubrovnik, handily placed for a trip to the city. First impressions on arrival were bad; grey concrete, bullet-holes and marks from shells in the walls after the war in the early nineties, it looked a bit like a prison. The rooms are pleasant, but ours overlooked a tatty public park area beside what looked like a 1970's inner-city shopping precinct. Reception staff were not friendly, nor particularly helpful and spoke little English as most of the guests were, historically, French. We were one of only three English couples at the hotel and felt out of things as the menu, announcements, notices, etc. are all in French. The good point is the location. The area is well-served by buses which will get you to Dubrovnik in twenty minutes, there is a nice walk along the sea shore to the local town and it's a quiet area. Dubrovnik is beautiful, as is what we saw of the rest of Croatia, but the Tirena was the low spot. There are other hotels nearby which I would recommend before this one."

Hotel Tirena was great :)
"I travelled with my friend throughout Europe in August. I can definetly say that Croatia was our favourite part of the trip. It's a beautiful country, with great weather, beaches and historical sites. Hotel Tirena was a pleasant surprise, as it appears to be far from the Old City on maps. It's actually not far at all; a short bus ride gets you there in no time. The hotel was in a beautiful area called Babin Kuk, where there were a handful of hotels in a cluster. Because of the concentration of hotels, it felt almost resort-like, with a small shopping area and a disco. The pool was nice and clean, which is always a bonus! The food was wonderful, as the hotel had its own buffets (the breakfast one was included in the price). The buffets offered a lot of variety. The room itself was one of the biggest we had in our travels, and was very clean. The bathroom was big, and had the most "north american" shower we'd seen (which for us, was a relief!!). The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly ,and they all spoke English. We werent bothered by the noise from the disco (as I read in another review). We could hear music and laughter faintly, but the glass doors were very soundproof. We had definetly stayed in hotels in louder areas then that. All in all, we would stay at Tirena again in a heartbeat."

"We were looking forward to a peaceful, relaxing holiday; our room was lovely with beautiful views (we paid extra for this) The hotel was clean and pleasant as were the grounds and pool. Everything appeared to be great; until we were in bed - we were woken in the early hours by loud banging disco music, shouting and screaming coming from a cafe bar down the precinct. This happened on four nights;until 6 am on two nights. Our rep was surprised as bars should close at midnight, the night manager said he couldn't do anything but call the Police and he didn't want to do that. My husband walked down on the 4th night at 2.30a.m. and the Police were actually there closing the bar. This spoilt what would have been a perfect holiday. Dubrovnik is beautiful. Cavtat is paradise - we visited twice. We'd certainly visit Croatia again"
