10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"Just returned from a happy relaxed holiday stay at the Hotel Lapad. Excellent hotel with friendly helpfull staff. Peacefull room with garden terrace. Everywhere kept very clean at all times.
Stayed half board with good choices at each meal time. Lovely looking hotel in good setting right by the harbour with handy reliable bus service to Dubrovnik. Cannot praise the hotel highly enough and would not hesitate to return."

"We set off for the Lapad Hotel with some trepidation after reading some of the more recent reviews on it, but found it excellent in every way.
It has recently been refurbished, indeed some of the work was still being carried on (in a very unobtrusive way) whilst we were there. Our room was large, with very quiet but efficient air conditioning, and once we had mastered the up-to-the-minute electronic controls in the bedroom and bathroom we were more than satisfied.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the meals were good with plenty of variety and choice. We had expected a waiter served dinner, and found when we arrived that they had changed to buffet style meals, but everything was hot and fresh and constantly being replenished.
I would certainly stay in this hotel again."

Very Bad Service...
"I stayed at the hotel lapad for a week in June. My first impressions were VERY bad! Our flight had been delayed for 10 hours and when we finally got to the hotel, we were met with the most unfriendliest of welcomes! The person at the front desk barely lifted his head to say hello and pointed us to our room. We were exhausted tired and went down to the bar to get some water (as there was none in our room). The barman was one of the rudest people I have ever met! He refused to serve us and said he was closing up the bar! We explained our situation and kindly asked if we could just have a bottle of water but he refused.I went to bed thinking I had made a huge mistake choosing this hotel!
We were supposed to have a room in the newer wing of the hotel. I think we got this as there was airconditioning in the room but it didnt look very new to me!! The windows barely opened out and the wall sockets weren't in the best of condition either! The one thing which was nice was the shower, which was huge and very clean!! Our room was beside the emergency exit door which was a nightmare because the cleaners would be in and out from very early in the morning, talking VERY loudly.
If you want a basic hotel and aren't botherd too much about service from the staff, then the hotel lapad is fine. Other than that I'd say look elsewhere!"

Unfriendliest of Hotels
"My wife and I stayed at the hotel for a week during September 2007 and it was one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in. The rooms were extremely basic, the shutters on the windows did not close properly, electrical sockets were coming away from the wall. The balcony had broken glass on the floor and we had to request that it be cleaned and this took three (3) days. Although the beds were made on a daily basis the room was only cleaned once during our weeks stay.
The food was terrible, it was either cold or a completely different meal to which you ordered was served. We found the waiters/waitresses to be rude and unhelpful and at times very aggressive towards some of the elderly guests.
Croatia is a beautiful country and I would advise anyone to visit there but avoid the Hotel Lapad. Our weeks holiday was marred by our experience in this hotel - beware!"

Very Basic, But Nice Pool
"Basic hotel, small room, but very adequate. Lovely pool and outside bar. My partner and I are in our early 30s and we were the youngest by 20 years! Breakfast isn't great, but if you're not fussy, you can stock up on yoghurt and bread. It's a pleasant 10 minute walk to the bus stop to the old town-no problem. Or a 7 euro cab ride home. Would recommend if you're just looking for basic accomodation just outside the old town."

Essentially sound with a taste of years gone by
"Arrived with BA and took a pre booked taxi to the hotel - the journey took about half an hour.
We had paid for an upgraded balcony room and were allocated 407 in the (newer) rear block. The room was nice with a good large and pwerful shower. The TV had 15 channels, including CNN. Maid service was daily. The only negative is that the plumbing is quite noisy - ie you can here when neighbours are running the taps etc.
The hotel is well located - about 40 minutes walk or 15 minutes on the bus out of town. It is a 15 minute walk to Copacabana beach or about 10 minutes to the Lapad commercial "strip" that leads down to Lapad beach and bay.
The pool at the hotel was cold. It was generally quiet and there were always sunbeds available, but I guess that might be different in peak season?
Meals are essentially sound, although some other guests were not entirely happy and veggie options are limited. Breakfast is typical continental fare - breads, cheeses, yoghurts etc. as well as eggs and streaky type bacon. Every day at dinner there is a soup, second course, and choice of four (waiter served) mains. The dessert choice was always Cake (varied by the day), Ice Cream (two scoops - one vanilla and one other flavour) or fruit (Stewed or fresh - normally grapes or melon).
There are plenty of options to eat out both in Lapad and the old town. I would recommend the restaurants at the old town harbour. Pizzas are also good, and ice creams in town are exceptional for 7KR (about 70p).
There is lots to do - Dubrovnik is spectacular. We walked the walls (50KR - about £5) and also took a boat over to Lokrum island (35KR return - about £3.50). We also visited Cavtat which is about 45 minutes on the bus (or a similar time on the boat) away. There is also an option to visit Mostar on an all day coach trip but we didn't do this as the journey was quoted as nearly three hours each way. We also visited the Aquarium and the "Faberge" egg exhibition. Finally, it is worth finding the "Buza" bars just outside of the city walls overlooking the Adriatic.
We were fortunate with the weather and had 6 lovely days - warm and sunny with clear blue skies and temperatures in the mid 20's."

"Have just returned from 2 weeks at the Lapad in Croatia. Arrived late due to flight delay but cold buffet was provided. Good clean rooms with large bathroom facility and clean towels daily! The cleaner was wonderful and our room was spotless. Beds changed on average twice at least per week. The food was fairly good for the rating and better than some 4 stars I have stayed in. Good attentive staff who do their utmost to ensure everything is ok. The hotel is a traditional Croatian building which gave ambience to the whole experience. The pool was freezing! Not for the faint hearted.. but clean (Some music around the pool would be nice). Ideal for mature travellers as no real facilities for children. The hotel is to be refurbished commencing October 07 with completion in 2009. Very comfortable beds. Views of harbour wonderful, watching the cruise ships come and go and close to all amenities. The Lapad penninsular is excellent for walking and has some nice beach areas. I would return after the refurb definitely. I hope it does not lose any of its character in the process."

Basic but good hotel
"The hotel seems a bit old fashioned, but the room and bathroom were clean and everything worked well, although the aircon struggled a bit as it was very hot outside. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast OK, but a bit lacking in variety and the back half of the dining romm very hot and stuffy. Despite what other said, we found the staff pleasant enough. Evening meal a bit "school dinners". Our room ws at the back of the hotel and there was a bit of a cooking smell in the corridor, but nothing in the room. The balcony was large witha nice view over towards Lapad"

A nice hoilday
"I have just returned from a holiday staying at Hotel Lapad with a friend and am surprised by some of the reviews which i have just read! The hotel is 3 star so we expected something more on the basic side. The room was slightly basic with no balcony or drinks facilities but it had adequate storage, a working bathroom and a good air conditioning system.
We found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly. They all have a very dry sense of humour, are very polite and will always say hello when they see you. We had breakfast and dinner which we read would be terrible.
Breakfast was fine with the continental or nearly full english option. The only downside was how busy it got from 9am as 6-9.30am for breakfast on holiday is too early. Evening meal was lovely with waitor service for drinks and the main course option. There was a range of soups, starters and salads throughout the week. The main courses were sometimes slightly basic but sometimes very nice. We also swapped our evening meal for lunch on the last day and received exactly what we would have had in the evening.
The only bad thing about the hotel was the entertainment. The first night was a magic show and lively band but it went quickly downhill from there to 'samey' bands and a 'DJ' which just sounded like a random 90's CD.
The best beach in the area is Copacabana which is about a 20 minute walk and is practically empty which was great! Lots of sunloungers, a lovely restaurant and clear sea.
The old town is a bus ride away but beware to try to avoid the bus in the morning as it is packed and the locals push you out of the way and can be very rude. Buy a ticket from a shop first and save 2 kunas.
Hotel Lapad isn't a luxury hotel but we enjoyed our stay very much."

"only stay here if you are on a package otherwise they will charge you 3 times as much especially for the food and the accomodation. it much cheaper to say in private rooms. besides the staff are unfriendly and some are even a little nuts."
