Lovely hotel with very friendly staff
"My partner and I stayed here in August 2008. The hotel is lovely, rooms are clean and spacious and all have a kitchen and eating area. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful.
Location was excellent, located in a lovely harbour and only 5 minutes by bus to the old town and the Pile Gate (1 minute walk to bus stop and busses come every 5-10 mins). Also it was great to be away from the huge crowds of tourists in the old town. Walking would probably be 20/25 minutes but we did not do this as the busses were frequent and cheap, 8 Kuna each way with a ticket or 10 Kuna if you pay on the bus. There was also a big supermarket, Konzum, which was a 5 minute walk away.
The hotel would be excellent for anyone especially families as there is the bonus of the kitchen facilities (fridge, cooker, crockery, pots etc.). There was no bath tubs in our bathroom which may bother some people.
The only down side for us was that there is no outdoor area or pool and there is no beach within walking distance. The beaches nearest would be in Lapad, Babin Kuk or on the other side of the Old town. We were 10 days in Dubrovnik and one or two days of lying in the sun on a lounger and reading a book without having to travel far would have been great. The hotel would be perfect if they created some outdoor garden/seating area with chairs and parasols and maybe even added a small paddling pool for cooling off."

"What a fantastic Hotel - it has a three star ranking but should be a five star hotel. The service, the cleanliness and the quanlity of finishings in the hotel are excellent. The breakfast was what we expect i.e. full American breakfast and more!
Katarina was very helpful with any questions we asked e.g. buses, hire of car and all other needs to help a weary traveller.
I have referred the Berkeley Hotel to all my friends and family and look forward to going back to Croatia in the near future."

Great size room, great service
"After travelling by bus into Dubrovnik, our group of four walked the 10 minutes from the Port to the Hotel Berkely. On our arrival, we were greeted with open arms. From the moment we arrived, the owner/manager Nik, his daughter Katrina and the rest of the staff took us in and ensured we had a great time in Dubrovnik. They acted as tour advisors, drivers and historians.
Our one bedroom apartment accomodated us comfortably with a clean bathroom, kitchenette, large balcony, spacious double bedroom as well as large, comfortable fold out double bed in the living room.
The Berkely Hotel is an easy 5-10 minute bus ride into the old town and a similar distance from the area of Lapad. It was nice to be in an area not saturated with the crowds of tourists. The other advantage was that it is a short stroll to the port area servicing the ferries to Mijet which is a pleasant day trip out of town.
Dubrovnik is a special place, and the Berkeley Hotel was a great place to base ourselves for our four day stay.

A very nice hotel in a less-than-ideal location
"We stayed at the Berkeley for four nights in July and had a very pleasant experience. The customer service was exceptional and the hotel itself was chic and comfortable. Our only quibble with it was the location, and whether or not this issue would be a problem for you depends on the kind of traveler you are. We typically like to stay in a relatively central location, so we can go out to do our sightseeing all morning and afternoon and then walk back to the hotel in the early evening to rest up and clean up a bit before going back out to get dinner. This schedule wasn't very practical with the Berkeley's off-the-beaten-path location. And it's not just that it's a couple of miles from the Old Town, since we don't mind walking at all; it's that it's an unpleasant two-mile walk. The area around the hotel is not especially picturesque and large sections of the route between the hotel and the Old Town have no sidewalks or even shoulders to walk on so walking at night can be somewhat dangerous. So instead of going back to the hotel for our normal early-evening break, we'd just stay out from mid morning to late evening, which made it a pretty long day. Yes, we could have taken a cab or a bus back to the hotel (and we did cab it on one occasion), but I really prefer walking as my primary mode of transit when I'm in a new city. It's just a better way of getting a feel for a place. If we had to do it over, we'd probably stay at the Hilton, the only hotel that seemed conveniently located in relation to the Old Town. We prefer the small boutique hotels like the Berkeley, but your hotel's location really can have a big impact on your overall travel experience, so in this case I'd probably sacrifice a little charm and quaintness for added ease and convenience."

Wonderful little hotel
"Stayed at the Berkeley for four nights in July of 2008.
It's a wonderful little hotel located a little ways from the historic Old Town. My room was perfect, the studio on the first floor was very spacious and clean. A/C worked perfectly which is a big plus considering the summer temperatures.
Having a large balcony extending from your room was great for unwinding in the evenings. What better way to cool off than to have a beer as the sun is setting on the balcony.
The location is not that great but buses run right across the street and a block downhill near the harbor. The bus station is also not that far away.
All of the staff was extremely friendly throughout my stay. Would recommend the Berkeley very highly for anyone staying for a longer period and especially for families."

can't fault this hotel!
"This hotel is fantasic, when we arrived in Dubrovnik we called the hotel for directions and the girl was great. The welcome was nice and the room was very pleasant, a lot nicer than on the hotel website.
The location is no problem as it is about 5 mins away from the bus stop which goes into the old town. The bus to the old town takes 10-15 mins. I also felt this location gave us the chance to discover the new port area which is nice, but obviously not as nice as the old town.
There is a supermarket nearby too.
In summary, great value, welcoming and easily accessible"

What a gem
"Family run business offering really first class accommodation at reasonable prices. Hotel was built last year and clearly a lot of thought has gone into the design and fittings. We have never slept so well in a hotel â fantastic soundproofing!
Everything immaculately clean, contemporary and really comfortable bedding. Family very generous with their time - Nothing was too much trouble. Yes the bus trip into town is a bit of a pain and the Croatians don't queue like us Brits but the buses are very regular and drop you within 25 meters of the hotel. A daytrip on ownerâs boat really made the perfect end to a really great holiday and parting gifts were an unexpected and much appreciated bonus.
If you want a clean unpretentious comfortable place to stay, this hotel is unbeatable and really deserves the rave reviews left by most guests."

A little gem
"Dave and Sandy Roberts stayed here for 10 nights between end of June and 9th July booking the hotel after having read the reviews. We were not disappointed at all. The family run hotel is so friendly, starting at breakfast time with a hearty feast that sets you up for for the rest of the day.
Nothing is too much trouble for the entire family who take turns to look after you and there is always a smile to be had.
The rooms are very spacious.spotlessly clean and the aircon was a boon as the temperature was way up the scale.
We had a sea view which is advisable and opening up the patio doors late afternoon extended the balcony into our room.As a base to visit the old town or any of the magical small islands nearby this is great and you will not be disappointed.
We would definitely go back and stay here.
One thing we would have liked would have been an outside seating area off the bar to maybe meet some of the other guests There was room but as yet they have not developed this area [That is being very picky though]"

A Great Place to Stay
"We stayed at the Berkeley for 6 nights at the end of June 2008. It was a wonderful experience.
The hotel has a terrific location - supermarket close at hand (we had a one bedroom apt with kitchen), right at the ferry terminal, near the bus terminal, away from the crowds of downtown. It's only a 10 minute bus ride from the old town and the bus stop is less than 5 minutes away on foot.
Breakfasts were great. You can only get dinner in large groups but if hotel fare is what you want, the Hotel Petka just down the street serves quite acceptable food and has an ok bar.
The room was very clean and well appointed. Maids appeared daily.
The best feature, however, was the hospitality. The family that operates the hotel is absolutely committed to making sure you have a pleasant stay. They are incredibly helpful. We had a small medical emergency on a stat holiday and Katarina and her dad were quick to volunteer their help. I can't say enough about great they all were, from the serving staff (also family) to desk staff (also family)."

The best value in town
"We stayed in Dubrovnik on holiday 4 years ago and returned this year to attend a wedding. We previously stayed on the Lapad peninsula and saw all the hotels in that area, and they are not great. Basically if you are not going to spend the money for a five star hotel then this is the best hotel in town bar none. It is impeccably clean, everything works as it should and the staff are friendly. There is no beach nearby but the old town is only five minutes away by bus. Wouldn't consider staying anywhere else if I am ever in Dubrovnik again."
