Nice hotel, but be wary of the triple rooms
"We stayed at the Hotel Kastil based on a review by the New York Times. The personnel are very attentive and accomodating. The rooms are not luxurious but adequate and clean. Our major dissatisfaction was the noise from the adjacent disco bar, which continued to about 2:00 AM every nite. This disco bar overlooks the triple accomodations (rooms 201, 202, 301, 302), so it is not advisable to book these rooms."

Very enjoyable stay at Hotel Kastil
"We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We stayed there based on the review in the Frommer's guide book and it was as good as the guide book said it was. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the fact that the hotel is a converted fortress added to its appeal. I would suggest requesting a room with a balcony, as only about 9 of the rooms have them, and try to get an upper floor for the better view of the harbour. All rooms face the harbour. The hotel's location right in the center of town on the water can't be beat (note that parking in the busy season may be a bit difficult).
The hotel is clean and well-maintained. The terrace is a lovely place to have breakfast in the morning. The hotel offers a cooked breakfast as well as cold breakfast. The rooms are clean and simply decorated, and the beds were very comfortable.
We had no trouble with noise, which seems to have been a problem for previous reviewers (granted, it was May, so not peak season) - the live music in the pizzeria below is from 7-11pm (all season I believe) and the windows/doors to the balconies are double glazed and seal very well against any sound. There were no drums in the bar at the end of the hotel when we were there.
A nice surprise was that the hotel lent us nice beach towels for the day to use at the beach even though we had checked out of the hotel that morning. We were not charged for the use of the towels as we thought we might be.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and would stay there again if going to Bol. Our trip included Split, Hvar town, Korcula, Ston and Dubrovnik, and Bol was our favourite location - it has a real beach town feel to it."

Stay somewhere else...
"Hotel Kastil enjoys a superb location in the middle of Bol, away from the large resorts. Unfortunately, I have no further positive remarks on the establishment.
The noise problems are well documented, and I can confirm it is pretty bad. The problem is not the restaurant downstairs, but rather Bar Varadero next to the hotel. Although the bar is pretty cool, unless you rock back to your hotel room at 4am you're going to get the drums until the morning.
The less well documented problem is smoke and it was bad. We stayed at a room just above the restaurant grill and the smell of smoke completely overwhelmed the room for two days and it was just intolerable.
The other problem is hygiene on the beds. The hotel should really invest in a few cents and get proper bed sheets and blanket cover (think of staying in a hostel). The stained blankets are frankly disgusting. I've stayed in apartments and cheaper hotels across Croatia and this is the worst I've seen.
Unless you want to experience the noise, smell and hygiene problems, you should find yourself an apartment or room in the otherwise lovely town of Bol."

"Stayed at the Hotel Kastil at the end of June 2006 for three nights. It ia right in the centre of Bol and overlooks the Sea. Our room had ma balcony overlooking the sea and was absolutely beautiful. I disagree that the hotel is noisy as the windows have shutters and double glazing with superb air conditioning. You cannot hear a word once the windows are closed! The location is unbeatable being a couple of minutes walk from where the ferry docks. The Island of Brac and Bol itself is beautiful and very upmarket (couples and families prevail). The Hotel is very clean and well organised and breakfast is served in a garden terrace overlooking the sea. I cannot overly recommned the hotel - top clas and very reasonably priced. The hotel has its own website and can be booked on line. You can write to the lovely Renatta there. Hi Renatta, if you read this, thanks for a great stay. PW"

Good location... but noisy
"Spent at week at the Hotel Kastil in Bol in June 2006. Hotel very well located, right in the centre of Bol. Staff very good, rooms very small but with nice bathrooms. Be aware of the local noise around the hotel - all rooms either overlook the Pizzeria (live singing every night until late gets very monotonous) or the cocktail bar with live DJ every night. Not the place to go if you are a light sleeper.
Bol in June was lovely. Enough people to make the place feel lively and restaurants & bars not too full however I think it would be a different place in peak season. We enjoyed having beers at the Moby Dick bar and dinner at the family run Konova Dinko, to the east of the harbour."
