It cost us to upgrade for our own safety
"We use basic accommodation as we are out all day sightseeing. However being based at this hotel's basic accommodation was a death trap. Health and safety breaches galore. Bare electric wires hanging out of the wall, carpet filthy and curled up at the seams, door splintered, bathroom like a sesspit - disgusting. We dare not use the bathroom. No way could we stay in that room for 2 weeks. We complained in the morning but they said they could'nt understand English. They understood upgrade no problem which cost us 305leva- £133.18. The upgrade was very good with guest care excellent; It was modern and staff couldn't do enough to help;If booking do not go for basic. It is very poor accommodation and service. Our rating is based on the basic accommodation."

not at all bad
"My husband and myself returned from our holiday to this resort only last night and although the reports on this hotel were really quite damning we were pleasantly suprised. Yes, we stayed in the 3 star apartments on half board which although basic were cleaned daily and we were also given clean bedding and towels on a daily basis. In all honesty though I must admit the food was terrible, not only was it inedible it was also cold and after 2 days with upset stomachs we were eating out every breakfast and evening meal time. We found the staff to be quite friendly too in spite of the language barrier and although a lot of the guests in this hotel were of different nationalities some were really very rude and moaning constantly.
Would we go back to this hotel again? Yes but on a self catering basis as all we want and expect from a holiday is a clean room, edible food and good weather. We got 2 out of 3 so we are not complaining. "

"PLEASE belive all the negitive things you read about this hotel. ive just returned from a 2 week stay with my family at this hotel.
we arrived to be greeted by miserable reception staff. who handed us a sandwich bag which contained a bottle of warm water a manky orange and a stale ham/cheese sandwich.we were then showed to are rooms which was in the 2* part of the hotel. the rooms were dirty damp and smelling. the sheets were ripped and stained. the shower had tiles missing from the walls, mould growing on the shower curtain. the balconry was a death trap as the wooden fence was broken and held together by chicken wire. it was more like a hostol room than a hotel.
on complaining we were offerd another room in the 3* part of the hotel for the sum of 350 lev.
the 3* rooms were infact quite good and more up to date. the maids cleaned the room every day and changed the bedding once a week.
the restruant served the same food each night. and didnt cater for the english. (more for the germans) the food was bland and dry and contained of fish, chicken, and pork. the breakfast wasnt much better. (but at least a slice of toast was better then nothing)the waiters and waiteress were very rude and unfriendly, they dont smile and do not use manners.
the swimming pool was the largest on the island. but had tiles missing from the floor. so quite often you would end up cutting your foot. the poolside bar was reasonable and the food was edible.(be sure to get up early for a sun lounger)
the resident doctor is money mad. on taking my son to her with a earache she charged 100 lev just to look in his ear and then a further 35 lev for some tablets which didnt work. after my wife was bitten by a mosquito she wonted to give her an injection for 100 lev.
this hotel was like the program faulty towers.
on eating out which was every night we found the resturant across the road called piccaldily the best around and quite cheap. they were also letting kids eat free with 2 adults eating there. the best pub and bar was the corner pub which also served nice food at reasonable prices. the beach was lovely and found the water sports good. sunny beach is a lovely place to holiday at. but hotel continental in my opion should be pulled down. or advertised as a hostol for back packers.
be careful on exchanging money only use the money exchanges with the crown marked on them as you will be ripped of. the ones without the crown on will give you youre money in a bundle wraped in a 5 lev note and the rest of the money inside will be monopoly money."

hotel from hell.
"ive just spent 2 weeks at this hotel with my family. from the 26th of june 2010 to 10th july 2010. on arrival we were given a plastic bag each which contained a bottle warm water,a orange, and a ham sandwich. this was are tea for the night. we were then taken to are rooms. which was in the 2* part of the hotel. (this part isnt shown in the hoilday books) the rooms were awful maybe in the 60s they would of been ok. they were dirty the sheets were damp. the shower was mouldy. and the decor of the room was very outdated. the pattio door was broken.(im sure if we tryed to open it would of fell of) the balconray had 1 pattio chair and the fence around it was broken and held together with chicken wire. after complaining to mangerment we were told we could move for the sum of 305 lev. we paid this and were moved into the 3* part of the hotel. which was alot better and cleaner. the resturant serverd the same food every night of our stay. chicken, pork, and fish. the salad bar was nice. the waiters and waitress are the rudest people ive ever had to meet. the swimming pool has broken tiles in, which are coming away from the poolside. the poolside snack bar was in fact quite popular. as the food there was quite nice and cheap. the massage staff are lovely and friendly and the prices are reasonable. entertainment does not happen in this hotel. i wouldnt recomend this hotel to anyone. "Beyond gross. Do not stay here. We arrived at 1am to be greeted by a grumpy receptionist who grunted at us handed us our room keys and vaguely pointed in the direction of a large block of rooms. Our room was in the 3* part but I wouldn't rate it 1* in fact I wouldn't let my dog stay here. When we found our room on the ground floor we opened the door to a foul smelling room. We turned the lights on to find a basic room. I tried to remain optomistic but then I discovered the white stain (it wasnt toothpaste) on the bedding cover so removed that to find a sheet with a large rip and blood splatters on it. I didnt want to sleep in the bed so thought I would sleep in the chair but found that had a large stain too. You could hear every noise outside and our room was next to the metal steps leading up the rooms above so everytime anyone went up it echoed through our room and woke us up. Furious we went for breakfast in the restaurant when I was greeted with a pile of vomit on the stairs into the restaurant so decided to pass on eating in the establishment. All in all I have never been so disguisted at the state of the hotel and its room which considering some of the cheap 18-30 holidays iv been on says alot!!!! Please do not stay here, i thought id be ok after reading good and bad reviews but it is truely awful and ruined my holiday. "

"Hi Just returned from hotel park continental this morning and thought i'd post a review as i know how much i was fretting after reading some of the negative comments on here. We arrived mid afternoon (balkan airways fantastic by the way). We had a bit of difficulty checking in because our holiday was booked through a number of different companies due to using monster travel. The reception staff sorted this problem quickly and a porter carried our cases up to the third floor (no lift but thats not a problem as i could do with the exercise).
We were in the 3* part. The room was clean, had 2 bigger than average single beds, a chair bed, dressing table with mirror, 2 sets of drawers, a wardrobe, an extra mirror, tv, phone, fridge....what else do u need. The bathroom conisted of a shower, toilet, sink and another huge mirror, the shower had a bit of mould at the bottom but i've seen a lot worse and the hot water was tempermental late at night (prob a warning not to shower drunk). We had clean towels and sheets everyday. The maids were friendly and nothing was stolen. We did rent a safe for 4 levs a day (about £2)
The swimmimg pool is one of the nicest i've come across. It is quite big with a seperate childrens pool. There is a swim up bar and also a shallower end. My only fault with the pool is the 4 lev charge for sun beds but if i'd of paid an extra £20 when booking the holiday i wouldnt have noticed. The guy who collects the money is quite annoying though. He seemed to wait til we were asleep b4 coming to collect the money scaring us half to death. I don't think he did it on purpose but got quite annoying. Pool bar drinks are regularly priced though there are supermarkets near by that sell them cheaper if u can be bothered walking.
We stayed bed n breakfast board. Breakfast conssted of a number of different things, salads, fruits, cereals, then your typical english breakfast. I wouldnt say the food was stunning in the hotel but it was passable. Meals outside of the hotel are so cheap though you may as well nibble on sometrhing for breakfast then have a proper lunch and tea out of the hotel.... TRY MEXICANA and the chinese by VIKING BAR. Make sure u get a kebab skewer from one of the bbq places. Drink lots of cocktails, have fun and stop stressing about the negative reviews on here (unless u r in the 2* which im sorry to say was a shack). Also make sure u go for a walk along the beach and go on the floating pier. It's ace. Enjoy your holiday. "

3* is a MUST!
"PLEASE i beg DO NOT BOOK 2* accommodation - we booked into the 3* and the room was small but nice and clean, there was a fridge, sat tv and two single beds pushed together and one camp bed for my son. The bathroom was allways full of toilet paper and cleaned every day by the maid - as was the room. The 2* rooms were the opposite!!..a couple who we met paid £450 to upgrade to the 3* as the room was filthy, beds were just a mattrace on the floor and the balcony was a total death trap!!..the balcony wood was smashed and glass was on the floor - stains on every wall and floor, and a smell of urine filled the bathroom. The restaurant was far too full on a morning, from opening 7am till 10am there was a 20 min cue to get anything to eat!!.. drinks were running out and there was never any plates or cups (without chips in them!!) as people were allways taking 2-3 cups away at a time - as not to keep cueing for ages!. We found the food on the evening quite good!!.. there was allways something to eat and there was only around 30-40 people in the restaurant, as most people in the 2* rooms were bed and breakfast only - so we just gave up and started to get our breakfast in the hotel opposite costing around £4.00 per person. The pool area was allways clean and well kept, the drinks were quite cheap but you were charged around £2.00 for use of the hotel sunbeds. On the whole i would say the hotel is ok if you are on a budget, if you want to visit Sunny Beach and stay in a hostel type place this is the place to stay!!.. "

"this hotel is rubbish, food is horrible and staff are unfriendly. i recently went and stayed for 2 weeks not knowing what to expect and in this space of time bed sheets got changed twice and only because we had to ask the maid...when she eventually did decide to give us fresh sheets she never had the decency to put them on the bed they were just left in a pile for us to do ourselves. we were told that we couldnt get fresh towels as the maid didnt have enough for us.there is no entertainment at all on site and rep or staff couldnt speak english. sunny beach as a place is great but i wouldnt reccommend this place to anyone it should have a sign at the front door saying welcome to hell. the food is the same every day the only decent thing to eat was chips and they were very poor."

"just got back today . stopped in 3 star part and it was pretty good. hotel itself was ok,but looks a bit like russian army barracks. however food in restaurant is absolutely disgusting. kept trying it out throughout week ,but it got no better.cracked cups and plates, dog bowls for cereals. food appears to be for germans diet.good news is you can eat out quiet cheaply and hotel is in great location for sea and restaurants and bars.
pint of beer averages about 50p anywhere. "

Do not be offput by other reviews
"I stayed at the Hotel Continetal on 22nd June in the 3* side of the Hotel with 8 other lads all aged 21/22. The hotel was fine, the rooms were nicely presented and cleaned every day, sheets changed and fresh towels/toilet rolls provided. The pool area was ok, pool bar service all day serving anything from cocktails to cups of Tea. The Pool area wasnt overly busy and getting a sun lounger wasn't a problem (paying 4lev for each lounger per day though was!). The Pool was warm and clean. The positioning of the hotel was great, a few minutes walk to the beach and restaurants and shops immediately situated off the complex. Most places serve beer for 1 lev or 1.50 lev (equivelant of about 60p) and many places will offer you a free beer with your meal should you chose to dine there. I would recomend the Corner Pub, 200 yards from the hotel for a decent English Breakfast and should you polich off the mixed grill you get a t-shirt free! The beach is nice.
The nightlife was good, we spent everynight out in a club. The nightlife is approx 10/15 minutes walk from the hotel, there is a train which goes from the hotel to the centre of the resort although we did not catch this. I would recommend 'Amore'to start you night off, its an upstairs club, i think above revoulution or there abouts. buy 1 get one free on all drinks untill 12pm. 2 x double JD n coke, 5 lev = £2.50. I would avoid the viking Bar, banging music but inundated with sweedish (lads you would think this would be great, unfortunately they didnt seem to like the English). The whole of Bulgaria is full Scandinavian and German. Not many English.
All in all was a wicked holiday. The 2* part of the hotel is a dive and make sure when booking you are not in there. It did look like it was about to fall down.
Any q's id be happy to help [email protected]"

I heard the horror stories!
"My friends and I were staying in 3* rooms which were fairly decent, although we were told it would be an apartment and were therefore expecting kitchen facilities. We did have breakfast there but the food left a lot to be desired, if you like cold cucumber, pasta and strange low quality fruit then this is the place for you!
Whilst we were there we had a problem with our door, finding it very difficult to lock/unlock. This was reported three times to the hotel staff who did nothing to correct the issue. The reception staff were generally very unhelpful and on occasions quite rude. The cleaning staff however were very friendly and seemed happy to clean rooms/replace sheets/towels. However whilst we were there 3 out of the 6 of us had several lots of our underwear stolen (nice female underwear - poor cleaners... not making accusations but things seem to fall into place).
Whilst we were there we heard that a couple had gone into their room and found a nest of ants inside a bed and when this was reported to hotel staff they refused to do anything about the problem or move the couple to another room.
A group of guys were staying there too and whilst they were sleeping someone broke into the room and stole phones and money. There is a security guard on site but he seems pretty useless.
All in all I would suggest if staying at the hotel do not go any lower than 3* and do not expect a hilton! The pool is nice and the bar seemed quite reasonable. Keep all valuables on your person as security seems lax. There is a restaurant over the road from the hotel with lovely staff and lovely food. If you do go - ENJOY!!
I would highly recommend a visit to Nessebar - a lovely old town not far from Sunny Beach. Reportedly has the best beach in Bulgaria. "
